I do not know of any way to change iCal fonts.
If you want to print a calendar, you have a choice of changing the Text size "Big/Medium/Small" in the Print dialog window.

Your question really got me thinking. Actually, I don't think you should feel like an idiot at all. I think it is Apples failure that they made this difficult. Seriously, who would ever think to press Command and arrow to switch months? The little arrows next to the word Today are so small and inconspicuous that I remember having this very same question when I started using iCal too.
So, here is what I did to make it easier for my wife that uses iCal too.
Open System Preferences, Keyboard, Keyboard Shortcuts Tab, and finally Application Shortcuts.
Click on the Plus symbol under the right hand pane.
Select iCal from the Application list
Add two shortcuts: One named Next and the other named Previous and press your desired Keyboard Shortcut.
I assigned the left arrow and right arrow for these tasks.
Now it makes more sence for someone that is not used to Apples idotic way of doing things. ;-)
I use keyboard shortcuts all over the place. Actually, sometimes it gets me into trouble when I use someone elses computer and my shortcuts don't work. I blame their computer for it and forget it was my "tuning".

How do you change the color of fonts in ical?

Is there a way to change the text color of the fonts in ical from the standard white to black? It is hard to read some entries if the color of your calendar is light... I can't figure it out, as there is no "font" section in the ical preferences.

No unfortunately. You have limited to changing the color of the calendar, and that is pretty much it.

Unfortunately, the only way to change the font size exists in the iCal>File>Print...>"Text size" command.

Is there a way to modify the fonts in iCal. I would particularly like to enlarge specific events to make them more noticeable and to even make some of them a bold font to further call attention to them while using iCal. Any help?

Unfortunately there are no user options for using other than the default font in iCal. The only font option available in iCal is the "Make Text Bigger/Smaller" View option, but only if you are using the Lion version of iCal.
I suggest that you provide iCal Feedback.

Larger font on Ical

Ok....so I have had Ical for a while but have been using Palm. I am now getting ready for the new iphone release next month so I am converting to iCal. I was able to import my calendar from Palm and was (with some work) able to change some of the prfs...but it seems very limited. I want to know if you can increase the font on the display. I am on 10.4.10

Unfortunately, no, but if you are printing the calendar there are some choices regarding "Text size" in the iCal>File>Print... menu.
I suggest that you provide iCal Feedback requesting a "Larger font on Ical."

Changing fonts in iCal

I use iCal 2.0.4 and wonder how to change the font and its size in the month calendar.

I too would like to know how to do this.
I'm hoping someone has a technique. Even a command line entry via Terminal would be better than nothing.
Hard for me to believe that Apple has not given the user any ability to control the font, or it's size and style, in any calendar view on screen.

Download and read page 27 on creating and using Styles, which is done largely by example ie you make the text what you want then save it as a Style to be applied wherever you want in the document from the Styles Drawer.

HT5154 What font did iCal use for entries?

Love it or hate it, I'm looking for the name of the font used in iCal up through 10.6 or so. Any ideas?

I admit that this is the first time I've ever used iCal, but judging by the bizarre en dash, here – on 10.6.8 – it looks like Lucida Grande.

Dock icon font for iCal.

Hi--looked around and could not find this. I would like to know what font controls the display of the date in the dock icon. It's gone funny recently. I think probably I loaded a font that conflicts with Apple's preferred font for the application and/or replaced it.
I know it's a small thing but the icon displaying with the date all wrong offends my tender typographic sensibilities!

It appears to me as if there may be cache corruption problems with your system.
Start up in "Safe Mode," then restart normally and repeat the "Resolve Duplicates" feature of Font Book.
If that is unsuccessful, download and install OnyX, which has a Font Cache cleaning option in the OnyX>Cleaning>Fonts>System and Users section. Other choices are also available in that section which may or may not apply to your system.

ICal fonts too small to read

I tried using iCal for the first time.
I can't read the fonts on my 30" monitor without strong magnification. No one here can read the fonts easily, even those with excellent eyesight.
How can I enlarge the fonts without using the Universal Access magnification, which makes everything unsharp and gives me a headache?

BTW, when I enlarge the fonts for these forums, the lines run into each other. Can that be fixed? Or is that a problem with the site?

I appreciate the help.
Unfortunately, changing resolutions on LCD is about the same, unsharpnesswise, as using the zoom feature in Universal access.
The ability to choose font size, font color, etc., was available in ODS 9 and previous, and should be available to us as a part of the system.
That it isn't and that, with typical native resolutions for LCDs fonts and all detail size is seen at about half WYSIWYG (half the printed-out size) is a huge fault of the Apple OS.
We are stuck with too small fonts and details in too many applications, windows, toolbars, etc.
I need to enlarge the fonts in iCal, without messing anything up like Universal access does. Otherwise, I cannot use it, nor can many people i know. Ity is that simple!
Any real solutions, not makeshift attempts at trying to help.

Font issue in iCal

Apologies for posting this as I'm sure it's been answered before but it seems the Search function is missing on the Apple Discussions site?!
The display of my Helvetica type font in iCal is incorrect and seems to be positioning the text at the top of the calendar cells rather than centering.

Thanks for this. I'm a little confused though... I use FontAgentPro to manage my fonts so should I keep that duplicate font in that program and remove it from FontBook or the other way around?
After looking at the duplicates in FontBook there appears to be more including Symbol, Perpetua, Mistral, Lucida Sans Unicode etc etc
I'm presuming these are system fonts and therefore best to remove them from FontAgentPro?

Depends on what is in the AI file.
CD does a normally good job unless there are meshes and a particular type of transparency (I forget which one). I usually don't get "fancy" AI files. Stock & Trade, bare-bones types of files. these open in a few of the applications I use daily. That said, I never do it unless I need to return a format other than AI--because, well, why? I always try to use the originating application with the exception of older EPS files. As a lot of the daily stuff I do is screen printing, and because most every screen printer I deal with use CD, at some point the art has to go into CD.

Problems after installing upgrade fom Snow Leopard to Marverick

Hello,
After installing Maverick is I unable to use Address Book, Calculator, Automator, Dictionary, Font Book, ICal and I have no Utilities, when I try it says not suitable for this version, all it keeps telling "You can’t use this version of the application" “Dictionary” with this version of OS X. what do I do next, do I try and re-install the spplications, yet my Adobe CS4 and QuarkXpress are OK.

Because something is wrong.
To fix, try the following in order, testing after each until one of these suggestions works:
(1) Restart Mac.
(2) Use Disk Utility to repair permissions.
