Fonts in Ilustrator  to graphic

If there is fonts in a  PDF opened with Illustrator, and I send it to one, who does not have the font  installed,,
Can I convert the text to "graphics" - so he is seing it correct ?

If the fonts are embedded in the PDF, recipients of the PDF will see the correct fonts.
If the PDF is "opened" (imported) into Illustrator on a system that does not have the fonts installed, the fonts will not show in Illustrator, and you cannot cause Illustrator to convert the fonts embeded in the PDF to paths upon opening.

  • Fonts in linked eps-graphics show INCORRECTLY in InDesign, but show CORRECTLY in Illustrator

    Hi,
    I'm using Creative Suite CS4 on pc.
    When I open an InDesign CS4 file, the fonts in the the linked .eps graphics, in this case numbers,
    are shown as tall rectangles. If I open the source eps-graphic in Illustrator CS4,
    all numbers are shown correctly. Resaving the eps-file and updating the link doesn't help, neither does
    exporting to PDF. Fonts are still shown incorrectly in InDesign.
    Both the InDesign-file and the eps-graphics were originally created with CS2.
    Opening the InDesign-file in CS2 results in the fonts showing correctly.
    Does anyone know what is causing this and how to solve the problem?
    Quite perplexed!

    Hi again,
    Unfortunately, I am still stumped with this problem. I've taken a test document with 8 graphics and done the following:
    1. saved all .EPS graphics to .AI > relinked in ID to .AI
    2. used distiller with PDF/X1-a > relinked in ID to PDF
    3. used distiller with PDF/X1-b > relinked in ID to PDF
    4. used distiller with PDF/X3 > relinked in ID to PDF
    5. saved .EPS graphics to .AI > resaved .AI to PDF/X-4 in Illustrator > relinked in ID to PDF
    Results in all cases were "consistent" i.e. identical:
    6 out of the 8 graphics were resized AND repositioned in ID!!
    WHAT IS GOING ON HERE? Any more ideas, anyone?

  • How to force a font to be a graphic?

    Is it possible to make a default web font into a graphic?
    I have found that if i have some type set in Helvetica Book and a text hyperlink in Helvetica Book they look different once published.
    The plain type is slightly 'heavier' than the hyperlink and so looks like I am using two different weights.
    I find the normal text looks bad compared to a graphic of the same font this isnt really a big deal and untrained people probably wouldnt notice but I am a designer and typographer and so notice the slightest change in type.
    Any ideas?
    Thanks

    Ive found a work around myself (within 2 seconds of posting the above).
    Set the text to have a shadow in the text inspector but set the opacity to zero and the text gets converted to a graphic.
    Mint!

  • How to use the fonts in the graphics menu

    I am looking to add text from the graphics options on the right hand side of the screen.  When I double click or drag one of the text options to my project a text box appears, however the text is not the one selected from the options on the right – instead the text appears and I can change the text from the list of standard fonts at the lower left - and the font I double clicked from the menu on the left isn't listed.
    How can I select and use the fonts listed on the graphics list at the right?   I am looking to use the gray and black "outline" font.
    Thank you!

    When I press the "+" at the lower right corner of the screen I am presented with, among other things, a selection of font types.  I am able to change the text color in the graphics menu but can't figure out how to use one of the fonts listed in the menu.  For example, from the graphics menu I select "type" then "text" and from the fonts listed I double click "outline" and a text box appears on my project with "your text here", however the font is "rosewood std" and the only fonts available are from the typical list - no outline font as listed in the graphics menu on the right.   When I double click the text type "outline" the font doesn't change.  I think I am missing a step somewhere but can't figure it out.   Any help would be appreciated.  Thanks.

  • True Type Fonts in Java

    Hi all
    I searched through the forum and found some threads with the same problem but never a solution attached so here is my question:
    I'm currently trying to use a True Type Font in Java. I installed the font under windows and it works fine in e.g. Word, but when I try to use it in Java all I can see are "rectangles". I'm not sure if the problem lies in the font itself or if it is a problem of Java. The fonts are named "Fughetta" and "Toccata" and can be found here: http://www.efn.org/~bch/aboutfonts.html. He is a code snippet I'm using to test the font:
    public void setFonts(Graphics g)
            if (f != null) {
                return;
            f = new Font("Fughetta", Font.TRUETYPE_FONT, 26);
            System.out.println(f);
        public void paintComponent(Graphics g)
            super.paintComponent(g);
            setFonts(g);
            String s1 = "1234567890!\"$%&/(()=?`";
            String s2 = "qwertzuiop+asdfghjkl#yxcvbnm,.-<";
            String s3 = "QWERTZUIOP*ASDFGHJKL'YXCVBNM;:_>";
            String s4 = "1{[]\\}@~|";
            g.setFont(f);
            g.drawString(s1, 10, 30);
            g.drawString(s2, 10, 70);
            g.drawString(s3, 10, 110);
            g.drawString(s4, 10, 150);
        }All help is appreciated ;)

    Hy, Thanks for your sollution, but now I can't use this kind of approach.
    I need to show a Bar Code Font inside a JTable cell, so I created my CellRenderer, in which I tried to change the font to my "Code EAN13" True Type font.
    public Component getTableCellRendererComponent(JTable table,
                Object value, boolean isSelected, boolean hasFocus, int row, int column)  {
                 Component c = super.getTableCellRendererComponent(table, value, isSelected, hasFocus, row, column);
                 if (column == CollectInfoTableModel.CODBAREPRODUS_INDEX ) {
                         Font barCodeFont = new Font("Arial", Font.BOLD, 36);
                         c.setFont(barCodeFont);
    }This doesn't work, it just prints some strange characters.
    I tried your sollution, but when I make :
    Graphics2D g2D= (Graphics)c.getGraphics();i keep getting g2D = null.
    What can I do ?
    Is there a way to obtai a valid Grapics object on which to draw the glyphVector on ?

  • Fonts from Photoshop to Premier not clean

    I'm attempting to make an simple slide show in Premier Pro CS4 with slides that were created layered in Photoshop CS4 Extended.  the slideshow will be dispalyed on a computer screen in a kiosk at a large sales convention.
    My workflow is:
    export the graphic from Photoshop in an image format
    import into Premier
    place each graphic on the timeline.
    export as a movie
    My problem is that while the graphics look great, the text looks horrible - smeared, pixelated, blurred.
    The font used by the graphic designer in Photoshop is ITC Franklin Gothic Book, and in other places,  ITC Franklin Gothic Demi
    I've tried exporting from Photoshop to JPG, PNG, BMP, TIFF and they all look horrid.
    I've tried using other fonts, with no different outcome.
    I've tried different Premier templates
    I've tried different output formats (AVI, MOV, WMV, H.264, etc.
    Does anyone have any suggestions? It seems like it should be simple, but not so much
    Thanks in advance for any help!

    You seem to talk of "graphics" and "text" ( and both looking awful) so I am wondering what specifically do you mean.
    I get and use graphic text from Photoshop on a regular basis and these look perfect in HD Broadcast (and everything else) and I also use graphic text direct from PPRO Titler without any issues.
    A Text-Graphic  to me can be :
    > A  simple type face / font from my client designers computer that they wish me to use as a "super"  over a video scene /frame.  This usually happens when I do not have that typeface / font  in my Windows systems. (My clients use MAC largely)
    or
    > It can be a custom built designer  type with complex enhancements ( shadows/fills/shapes / paths etc...).  Effectively this is a graphic in my jargon.
    We interchange both of these as PSD files ( usually layered so I have control of all the elements).  I work them around from these. eg flattening etc..
    They are produced slightly larger than needed in my Sequence and always in RGB (not CMYK)
    and ...
    > I also use graphic text direct from PPRO Titler without any issues
    Straight TEXT to me is basic body copy and maybe small.
    Wish I could advise more on your issue ...but maybe some of this is helpful.
    Were / why  does the 805  x 602 come into your equation?  Are you using a Custom Sequnce  Setting  for this project?

  • DW CS5 - fonts not displaying properly

    Hi there
    I've just downloaded a trial version of Dreamweaver CS5.5 and seem to be having a little trouble as the fonts on the actual graphic interface are not displaying correctly. Here's what I mean: https://fbcdn-sphotos-a.akamaihd.net/hphotos-ak-snc7/418515_3338939720865_1489816971_31538 14_2003616853_n.jpg

    You have a corrupt font on your system that needs to be removed.  See if you can run the font through What the font ( http://www.myfonts.com/WhatTheFont/ ) or see if you can go through and remove that stencil-like font.

  • Fonts in illustrator for online

    hi - I work in illustrator and use regular fonts for exporting .gif graphics for use on web browsers - should I be using specific web fonts? This is not for websites but documents viewed on screen. Mainly Times Roman and Arial. So far they look okay but I was wondering if there is a better option?

    Certain fonts are desgined to look good on the web
    http://www.myfonts.com/search/web+fonts/fonts/
    http://www.adobe.com/products/webfont.html
    The same rules generally apply for most digital applications, except for example large scale digital billboards.
    Now don't lock yourself into using only web fonts for your digital projetcs, as there are plenty out there that do not claim being designed for web, but work just great.
    Similarly there are also SC and expert set fonts designed to work as small caps, Titling or Poster fonts designed to work at large sizes. Look into these rather than using the small caps feature as that just scales the font.

  • Font book is frozen after trying to create a "smart collection"

    I am currently running OS X 10.9.4 on an iMac.  I have added quite a few fonts for use with graphic design and have not had any problems until today.  I tried to create a smart folder titled Scripts and I am now receiving the wheel of death.  I have searched through the forums and googled online.  My searches led me to restart the computer in safe mode.  I then restarted it normally.  That did not fix the problem.
    I am not an expert (at all!) and am completely flabergasted at the moment.  A lot of the sites recommended using the OS X install disk but I do not have one as this was a free update from the App store.
    Your assistance is greatly appreciated!

    Have you tried validating all your fonts, or at least the ones you want in your smart folder?
    To validate fonts in Font Book, select them in the main Font Book window (command + A will select them all), then choose "Validate fonts" from the File menu.

  • Web page fonts not publishing correctly

    so, when I view my web page it sometimes looks completely different than it does on iweb. I've used three different computers and it will look right one second - then I refresh or I make a change and re-publish and then it goes all screwy. does this sound remotely familiar to anyone?
    I am using a font that is not standard on macs - a font that I purchased, would that make any difference? If so, that still doesn't make sense - because why would it work one minute and not the next.....??? stumped

    Welcome to the Apple Discussions.
    I am using a font that is not standard on macs - a font that I purchased, would that make any difference?
    Yes, that will be the reason. You can, however, get around that by turning the font box into a graphic. That's done by using the Font pane to add a drop shadow to the font and then moving the far right slider to the far left, making the shadow invisible.
    Go into iWeb's preferences and check the box next to "Show text imaging indicator" as seen here. This will tell you when the text has become an image.
    Otherwise you should use web safe fonts:
    Web Safe Fonts
    Common fonts to all versions of Windows & Mac equivalents
    Safe web fonts

  • Problem with computing Font width while printing in Landscape mode

    I have an application which prints a table and fills it with some text. I render it on a JComponent using the drawString(theStr, xPos, yPos) and the drawLine(rigtX, topY, rigtX, botY) methods in Graphics2D object. I want to take print-out of the table and also store the image of the table in, say, jpeg format. The print can be in Landscape or Portrait format depending on the size of the JComponent, which the user sets depending on the table size and the font size.
    I have a paintTable( ) method which contains all the drawString( ) and drawLine( ) methods. This method is called from the paint( ) method of the JComponent to achieve normal rendering. The same method is called to get a BufferedImage of the Table. The same method is further called from the implementation of print( ) method from the Printable interface.
    In the paintTable( ) method, I compute the pixel coordinates of the table grid lines and the texts positions in the tables depending on the font width and height obtained as shown below:
            // Set the Font
            Font theFont = graphics.getFont();
            theFont = theFont.deriveFont((float)TableFontSize); // TableFontSize is an int of value 8,9,10 etc.
            graphics.setFont(theFont);
            // Get the Font Size
            FontRenderContext frc = graphics.getFontRenderContext();
            float width = ((Rectangle2D.Float)theFont.getMaxCharBounds(frc)).width;
            float height = ((Rectangle2D.Float)theFont.getMaxCharBounds(frc)).height;
           System.out.println("FONT WIDTH HEIGHT [" + width + "," + height + "] ");I am getting the following value of width and height when the above print statement is executed with a value of 9 for TableFontSize. FONT WIDTH HEIGHT [18.0,11.3203125]
    The problem I face is :
    While Printing in Landscape mode the value of the 'width' variable printed as given above is becoming negative. Kindly see the values: FONT WIDTH HEIGHT [-9.37793,11.3203125]. This is happening ONLY DURING PRINTING IN LANDSCAPE MODE. This makes my calculation of table grid line coordinates and text positions completely wrong and the table goes out of place.
    Kindly note that, there is no problem during normal rendering and BuffereredImage creation and also while printing in Portrait mode. The problem happens irrespective of Linux or Windows. The value of 'height' is always correct.
    Kindly let me know: If the method I use to get the 'width' and 'height' is correct ? Is there any better way which will work fine in all platforms under all circumstances.
    Kindly help me to sort out this issue.
    Thanks a lot in advance and best regards

  • Graphics for Menu

    Hello,
    I'm creating my first real custom menu, and have created a background graphic (720x480) for it in photoshop CS. However, I'm noticing that the quality isn't really great. Do people usually create the graphics for DVDs in other apps like photoshop or just design them right in DVDSP? Also, if the former is true, how do you save the photoshop file? As a JPEG?
    Thanks,
    Matt Silva

    I create the majority of my menu elements using Photoshop CS and haven't notice a problem. There are a few considerations you need to take, though:
    1) Remember that you are creating a DVD menu for television playback, and that's where it needs to look its best. Keep in mind that the menus (as will the rest of the DVD) will look worse on the computer than it will look on the TV due to the resolutions of each.
    2) When creating your graphics, avoid thin horizontal lines, and sharp high-contrast horizontal edges. Try to use horizontal lines at least four pixels thick, and choose a bold sans-serif typeface font. Additionally, all graphic elements should be anti-aliased or blended, rather than have sharp edges.
    3) Don't forget to use the 'NTSC Color Safe filter' in Photoshop to make sure the colors are TV 'safe'
    Photoshop CS has a template you can use, which not only is the right dimensions, but has the action and title safe areas marked off. It defaults to saving as a PSD file, which works great in DVDSP.

  • Extend VTextField to dynamically underline font

    Rather than use the Hyperlink bean (because it's pretty slow to load), I have taken the concepts in the ModCursor demo and built a simple class that extends VTextField, providing for the traditional webpage look of a hyperlink: the hand cursor, rollover bolding, etc...
    I have left the font coloring and underlining to the text item properties; set when the developer builds the form.
    Problem with leaving the underlining in the text item properties is that if the item is part of a multi-record block and the records don't fill the space allocated for them (the block can show up to 10, but perhaps only 5 records are loaded), then the "empty" records have little tiny dots where the underline of the empty text fields are.
    I thought it would be simple to just add the underline in the implementation class, but it's not proving to be so simple. I've tried adding a TextAttribute whenever the font is set, but that doesn't "take".
    Here's my code, anyone have any ideas on how to add the underline in the PJC?
    I ripped out all the comments to reduce the size; I can comment about any part of it as necessary.

    Map attrs = font.getAttributes();
    attrs.put(TextAttribute.UNDERLINE, TextAttribute.UNDERLINE_ON);
    font = new Font(attrs);
    super.setFont(font);
    }

    Alright, no replies, but I figured out one way to do it.
    It's kinda cheesy, but it works alright.
    I saw that the Hyperlink bean actually drew a line to underline the text, so that's what I did.
    I overloaded the paint method, and only draw a line if there is text in the item.
    Actually, I only apply the moseover effects if there's text, too.

  • How can I remove hidden remnants of fonts?

    When I pre-flight my book for print it gives me a report which lists a few fonts which is not seachable in the documents.
    I guess they are remnants from the original Word document.
    The remnants are from "Cambria", one case of cambria is even embedded, and then a custom made font called "I Ching".
    I have tried every trick I know to find and replace or or remove them. Got a clue?
    It is important for me to clean the document because there is a problem printing the pdf.

    If the fonts are in placed graphics the only way to get rid of them is to edit the graphics. Other fonts you should be able to remove using Find Font and replacing them with something else. They may be in styles (Cambria, in particular, may have come in as part of a style from Word), and using the Select All Unused commands from the Paragraph Styles and Character Styles panel flyout menus, then deleting them, would be a good start. There is also an option in Find Font  to redefine styles when you substitute a font.

    how do I set font default in aperture?

    how do I set font default in aperture?
    Do you want to change the size of the fonts or the shape for the fonts in the user interface or in the products (books, webpages)?
    Aperture does not allow to change the fonts used in the graphical user interface, neither the size nor the shape. To change the fonts for the products (books, etc.), pick a theme with the fonts you like.
