Fonts in iMovie HD 6

Hey Gang!
I loaded some cool new "Star Wars" fonts off of the net into my font book this afternoon. (Yeah - I'm a geek. So sue me) They are accessible in Windows and other applications but not in iMovie. Why not?
Thanks again!
John

Hi Nhojnik:
Were you able to download and open them? If not, they may have been .zip files instead of .sit files..
Here are sites that offers Star Wars Fonts for Mac...and they are free.

And there are a million more if you Google.

  • Import new font into iMovie?

I bought a .TTF font and installed it in Fontbook. It shows up in other places (Quicktime Pro, Adobe Indesign etc) but not in the list of fonts for iMovie HD 6. Can't believe I couldn't find anything about under this entire thread. The font sits in the Users>Library>Font folder. Thanks for clues.

You should heed the warning. Can't tell what the problem is. Might be the font somehow got corrupted.
I would try the oft applied maintenance of deleting preferences and doing a permissions repair. To delete preferences, close iMovie and trash the file named com.apple.iMovie.plist found in User (the house icon)/Library/Preferences. Also, drag to your desk top the FontCollections file (NOT the Font Book) found in User (the house icon)/Library.
Then do a permissions repair using the Disk Utility app found in HD/Applications/Utilities. In the left hand pane of the Disk Utility window select your hard drive icon and then click on repair permissions. Takes about 3 minutes to repair. Then relaunch iMovie and see if you still have the problem. iMovie will recreate the .plist file that you deleted, as well as the FontCollections file. After confirming that the FontCollections file has been replaced in User/Library, you can delete the one on your desk top.
If you still have the problem, you might try clearing the troublesome font out of your system, and then reinstalling, following the directions for "Installing a font" in the Help menu. Skip trying to drag into the computer folder.
I can't think of anything else to try right now.

  • Upload Fonts to iMovie HD?  (Flameth me not!)

Hi all! ~ I want to add new fonts to iMovie HD (5.0.2) but can't locate the font suitcase for iMovie. Location, anyone?
I checked the archive, and indeed found this very issue addressed, HOWEVER - I can't find the relevant font folder that iMovie accesses. The answer to the previous query was simple: "Like you do with fonts for any other program."
I ran a search for all font folders, and placed the new font in each folder to no avail. Does iMovie have its own font suitcase? If so, where, pray tell, does it lie? I've googled and googled for this info and found zilch, beyond the aforementioned, distressingly Microsoftian response.
Any help here is much appreciated!

  • Required Fonts for iMovie 11?

I work in graphic design so usually only have a minimal set of fonts activated on my computer, so that I can activate what I need when working on customer jobs and then de-activate them later--keeps me from having hundreds of fonts active.
However, this means that when I use iMovie, I'm not sure but what some of the fonts used in the various themes are inactive. Was wondering if anyone knows of a list of fonts that iMovie uses?
    Thanks in advance.

Then you talk about "these 34 iMove fonts.
What I've found is that while there are 34 fonts in the application package, only 9 of them seem to be user accessible.
    I've now edited my answer.
So it appears that any fonts that iMovie uses for its default themes and trailers are within the application itself. So your practice of moving system fonts in and out shouldn't be a problem for iMovie.

  • Font size iMovie 6

    Hello folks:
This is my first post. I'm working on just my second project in iMovie, so I hope I'm not asking something obvious, but I didn't see it in the documentation or in several pages of posts here.
This is the first time I've experimented with written narration on a series of black screens. I'm trying to create a somber effect with the narrative transitions, but I notice that the fonts seem to be scaled automatically smaller when I write a longer sentence. This makes the text look very inconsistent as it passes.
Another thing I'm noticing is that in the Centered Title feature where you can stack several lines of text that fade in and out, the first line is always a larger size font than succeeding lines, even though I haven't adjusted font size for succeeding lines.
If I want to write just one sentence per clip, is there a rule of thumb that I can observe for maximum sentence length that will help ensure consistent font size from one clip to the next? And is there a way to stack sentences in a multi-line Centered Title so that the first line is the same size as the rest of the lines? Anyone else experiencing this problem?
The font I'm using now is Futura medium. I've tried selecting succeeding lines and moving the font size slider and it doesn't work.
    Thanks for any help provided.

I'm not sure what "plist " is, but that seemed to do the trick. I can't thank you enough!!!

  • Foreign language fonts for iMovie title pages and captions

I would like to write title pages and captions i iMovie in the Polish language.
Typically, characters that are specific to the Polish language are entered by using the alt key and the letter that is to be accented. This doesn't seem to work in iMovie.
How can these special accented letters be entered in iMovie title pages and captions?

Typically, characters that are specific to the Polish language are entered by using the alt key and the letter that is to be accented. This doesn't seem to work in iMovie.
Did you go to system preferences/language & text/input sources and check the box for the Polish keyboard layout, and then select it in the "flag" menu at the top right of the Finder? Which key does what can be seen using Keyboard Viewer.
Try Lucida Grande if the font does not have the necessary characters.

  • How to change font in imovie title

I have put some titles in my iMovie and cannot change the font. I click on the Title and the font fetures are not active, so it remains the default font.

    Hey All,
I was struggling with changing fonts too -- then I used "Upper" which can be changed and Simply copy and paste it into any other style of title.
    IT WORKS!  (what a hack)

  • Jagged font problem - iMovie to iDVD to then burn a DVD

    I have iMovie 11 - v 9.0.2 and iDVD 7.1.1.
I've imported photos and audio into iMovie to create a slideshow with transitions.  All works well there.
When I then export to iDVD and preview it on screen, everything looks great.
But when I burn to DVD and play in a DVD player, the fonts look terrible - so they are not rendering properly.
Font I am using is Coolvetica.  It was in the iDVD package.  I opened up the iDVD package and copied the font into Fontbook to make it available in iMovie.
Any advice on what I'm doing wrong?
    neilc

Thanks. That solved the font problem.
However, the overall quality of my DVD when display on a 42 inch plasma HDTV is poor---looks like a photo that has been copied on a color copier--too contrasty and with color shifting to yellow.  I have created three new projects from the original video, which is 47 minutes long, one DVD in each of Best Performance, High Quality and Professional Quality. The Best Performance is terrible.  However, neither the High or the Professional quality is much better, other than the fonts looking better.  Both formats result in high contrast poor images and color shift to yellow.
I have shared the iMovie in the Media Browser in HD 1080 and in 720.
I noticed that all the DVDs didn't seen to write more than about 1/2 inch on the outside edge of the DVD. The size of the TS-Video folder on the High and Professional DVDs take up only 2.82 gig.  It seems that iDVD is compressing the video more than necessary, leaving a lot of unused space on a standard 4.7 gig DVD.
Interestingly, DVD's made of much shorter videos and produced in the Best Performance mode on iDVD look very good when played on the Plasma TV.
Both the High and the Professional DVDs look very good on my McBook Pro and MacMini screens.
Given the restriction of a standard DVD player (480p) I wonder if I should share the movie in this format.

  • Is there a way to change the font in iMovie

I had a particular style I created for intro to a movie and I was trying to recreate it with the new update but can't seem to find the option. And what I do find isn't highlighted to be accessible. Am I missing/ overlooking something?

I am having the same problem as well.
The drop-down font menu is greyed out.  While I havent tried each and every available title style, I have tried most....no change with any of them.

  • Can I change all fonts in iMovie at once?

I have been asked to change the font to match my organisation's branding. Rather than going into each individual slide and clicking on the "Show Font" button, I am wondering if I can do them all at once.
    Thanks.

I don't think you can do that. The only thing I think you can change are transitions and title styles all at once, according to Jeff Carlson. But the individual type faces aren't covered by this. The styles applied are the Centered, Lower Third, placement styles and animation styles of the titles. Those you can change en masse by picking a different one and dragging it onto one of your existing titles. That will throw up a contextual dialog box that looks like this:
And you have many options for how to replace the style, unfortunately this doesn't extend down to the typeface, font, color, etc.

  • New Font in System Font Panel- iMovie

I use I-movie to create short videos for clients.  One Client is requesting a special font that is not listed in the systems font panel.  This is the second of this request from clients.  So, is there a way to import different fonts into that panel area?  How?

    Hi
    Yes You can.
    I just did
I started a new project to test
I put a photo into this
Then I selected text tool and selected a type of text e.g. lower third (second choice)
Then drag and drop this onto the Photo in my new Project - NOW
Up in the Viewer I get a title (up left) reading Show Text font's - and here from I can select all font's installed on my Mac.
    SORRY _ NEW INFO
The Font Panel - NO I was not able to change this - only able to use the font I liked in the Movie. Most probably I didn't fully grasp the Question.
    Yours Bengt W
