Fonts in Keynote

Whenever I open any of the themes in Keynote, I get all kinds of error messages about missing fonts. i think that a ton of fonts got deleted from my computer somehow... does anyone know where I can get these back?

Yes, there ARE fonts that are assumed to be there because they came with the OS. You don't have to re-install your entire OS, though. Instead, you should be able to pick what parts of the OS you want to install and uncheck everything but the fonts. Some use a tool called "Pacifist" to do this.

    You can't set a default font.
    Instead use a custom slide master with the font you want to use.

    I've created custom theme for Keynote'08 and everything works fine.
    My theme uses corporate fonts.

    Are fonts in Keynote displayed in pixels or points?

    An interesting point which I never considered since I create my own designs using CSS.
    I have always assumed that its pt. since we're taking print media here. This seems to be the case since the author of this Apple Training series book presumably knows!

    Select the entire body level text box and change the font to Gill Sans, Regular, 36 pt. Make the font color the same dark red that you stored earlier.

  • Changing the default font in Keynote '09

    Can anyone please tell me how to change the default font in Keynote '09 masterslides to the one of my choice? I can't seem to do it by following the suggestions in Help.

    In a given theme, the default fonts are defined in a file whose complete pathname resemble to this one:
    Macintosh HD:Applications:iWork '09:Keynote.app:Contents:Resources:
    Themes:Black_8x6.kth:Contents:Resources:French.lproj:fontsAndText.strings
    Here is the path for the theme named "Black_8x6.kth" in its French version.
    The file contents is:
    "STYLESeries2" = "Series_2";
    "STYLE_None" = "Aucun";
    "STYLESeries5" = "Series_5";
    "STYLESeries3" = "Series_3";
    "FONT_LucidaGrande" = "LucidaGrande";
    "FONT_Helvetica" = "Helvetica";
    "STYLE_Free Form" = "Format libre";
    "STYLESeries1" = "Series_1";
    "FONT_GillSans" = "GillSans";
    "STYLE_Normal" = "Normal";
    "STYLESeries0" = "Series_0";
    "FONT_MarkerFelt-Thin" = "MarkerFelt-Thin";
    "STYLESeries4" = "Series_4";
    If you edit the underlined font names you will change the default fonts accordingly.

  • Missing fonts in Keynote file : how to replace them ?

    When opening a Keynote file that had fonts not installed on the system, an alert window used to open.
    You could then easily replace the missing fonts with other ones installed.
    Not anymore !
    The alert window still appears in Keynote V6, but the "replace font" option is missing.
    Does anyone know a workaround ?

    yeah, I tried the whole modifying the master slide thing but the missing fonts aren't on there, they would have come from slides I deleted as well or already replaced the fonts on so not sure why they are lingering....
    oh wait...I think I might have just figured out something. The whole "revert to previous version" wouldn't that have something to do with still remembering fonts used in a previous version? I'm going to try and see if I can duplicate the current document in some way that makes it a new version with no history in it.
    Other than that I was going to try exporting to '09 do the replace fonts tool that was in there and then open it back up but I'll have to modify the transitions and shadows that were new to current version of keynote.

  • Problem with Webdings Font in Keynote

    When I select Webding font, this is what I get: ABCDEFGH
    I have opened the font book and the font appears correctly in there.  I just can't get it to show up in my presentation.  I'm using version 6.2.2 and everything was working fine until I got a prompt to upgrade the document.

    I'm using version 6.2.2 and everything was working fine
    Version Keynote 6.2.2 does not work in Yosemite but you list it in your profile.
    I got a prompt to upgrade the document.
    Are you saying you opened a 6.2.2 file in Keynote version 6.5?
    What did this prompt say?
    I select Webding font, this is what I get: ABCDEFGH
    Things to try:
    1  open Font book and verify all the Webding fonts
    2 delete keynote, empty trash and install from Mac App Store

  • Can I rasterize fonts in keynote?

    I'm trying to export my keynote but ugly windows won't get my nice fonts. How do I do? It took me a while to find out that powerpoit only manages wave sound files but I can't find what to do with tipography. Is there any way to avoid changes depending what types the user have instaled? Thanks

    I should have added that you can change the just the text boxes into images if you still want to be able to have some animation on the screen. You can copy the text box in Keynote, open Preview and command-n (or File>New from Clipboard), copy in Preview and then paste back into Keynote. This will paste the text box back into Keynote as a .pdf and this way if there is any animation you would still be able to have that.
    I also should have added that if you just want to export the whole slide, you can do that to an image in the Share Menu>Export>Images, and it will save each slide as an individual image. Then you can drag and drop into the Thumbnail Viewer of a new Keynote and it will automatically add them to a new slide.
    Sorry I didn't add these to my first post, but if you have to do this again, hopefully this will help save some time.

  • Blurry font on Keynote Printout

    Hi,
    I'm a relatively new Apple user and am testing Keynote. I'm a college student, and many of my instructors post slides online, so I will print them out and take notes on them in class. Previously I would do this in Microsoft Word on my other computer. However, since moving to Keynote, I've noticed that the fonts don't seem to scale well. If I print one slide per page, the fonts look fine, but if I print three slides per page, they become blurry and almost unreadable. If I print to PDF, I have the same issue.
    Are there any settings that I can correct for this? I really like iWorks and would like to stick with it.
    Thanks,
    Phil

    Directly under the area where you specify 3 slides per page, there is a checkbox that says "Draft-quality printout".
    Make sure this box is NOT checked. I suspect this may be your problem.
    When you only print one slide per page, this checkbox is grayed out, which is why it's not an issue then.

  • Missing font in Keynote 6

    Every time I open Keynote 6.2.2 I receive the message “The font GillSans is missing.” This is frustrating for two reasons:
    I don’t use the font personally, so I assume it is on some master slide
    and the font is installed in my Font Book.
    Any help on how to solve this would be very much appreciated.

    This is a well known issue. Try resetting Keynote using this procedure, ensure you complete all the tasks and in the order shown:
    remove  Keynote, using Appcleaner from Mac Update, its a freeware application. You must use an application removal tool for this repair to work.
    empty the trash:  Finder > Empty Trash
    Shut down your Mac, wait 30 seconds, then power on the Mac, immediately after the start chime, hold down the Shift key
    When you see the grey Apple symbol and progress indicator (a spinning gear), release the Shift key.
    If you are prompted to log in, type your password, then hold down the Shift key again as you click Log in.
    Let the Mac fully boot up, it will take longer as the OS is being repaired
    when fully booted, go to Applications > Utilities > Disc Utility; click on the boot drive then First Aid tab and click repair disc permissions
    when complete, restart the Mac normally, Apple menu > Restart
    install Keynote from the Mac App Store

  • Why do most of my fonts in Keynote track extremely tight?

    I am using Keynote '09 (5.3) on a MacBookAir. Most any font I choose (other than the standard fonts loaded in the templates) seem to track so tightly, any word seems to appear like a blob. The font is recognizable but the kerning is like negative 100! I cannot control this 'tracking' either.
    I found a post that offered to remove duplicates or re-install certain fonts but this should not be the issue--nearly ALL my fonts are affected this way!
    Any help will be appreciated.

    Thanks Gary!

  • Embed Fonts in Keynote= PDF

    I've created a Keynote presentation in the current version of the application, which uses two non-standard fonts, Chalkboard and Chalkduster. I have exported the presentation to PDF and put it on a web-server so other people can see it. But the fonts defaut to Helvetica or something, on machines which don't have those fonts installed.
    Is there any way to embed or render these fonts so that the presentation appears as it does on the originating machine, when it is exported to PDF and viewed via a PDF reader on a Web Browser?

    That's very civil of you! But unfortunately, the Keynote version as presented had a number of embedded MP4 movies, so it is much too big to email.
    Actually on further investigation, if I create the PDF version and send it from my MacBook to the iMac, the fonts are embedded and do display OK. But, when I uploaded the PDF version (in which the movies were replaced with URLs) to the server via FTP, then the fonts wouldn't render properly in Firefox or Safari, when opened on the iMac. They would default to Arial, although with very odd spacing, which looked terrible.
    On this occassion, I will not continue with trouble-shooting as it was a presentation for a very small audience and possibly nobody will even access it, however if I need to repeat this procedure I will look into it further.
    FYI if anyone is interested, it was called 'A Brief History of Western Zen', given at the Buddhist Library in Sydney, and the url is http://www.dynamicdata.com.au/pdf/Brief%20History%20of%20Western%20Zen.pdf

  • Embed fonts in keynote?

    I've searched every way I can think of, in help, manual here and other forum sites. This would appear to make it certain that keynote cannot embed fonts in a document for portability (as alas, ppt can). Can anyone give me a definitive answer?
    I'm forced to do a presentation on an unknown AV setup on the road, with no time or access to import a font or two. So I can use text images (pixel) in slides, but many vector magic tricks are then unusable.

    FYI: I have had to help folks who created presentations in Keynote (and/or Powerpoint) on a Mac try to port them successfully for a presentation on a Windows machine and I either recommend an "export" as .pdf file, which automatically embeds the fonts and their correct placement, or if it has a soundtrack, export as a clickable Quicktime movie, which also embeds the fonts.
    There are drawbacks to both, but every Windows machine I've encountered has Acrobat, and many now have Quicktime. Acrobat for WIndows/Mac can be presented at Fullscreen and clicked with the spacebar or arrow keys for forward and back. Unfortunately, transitions are knocked out.
    Movies in Quicktime can also be played back at Fullscreen, no space bar, but click and arrow keys, but not "all" transitions will come through, plus the Movie size can become enormous for transport.
    Just my 2¢.
