Fonts in linked eps-graphics show INCORRECTLY in InDesign, but show CORRECTLY in Illustrator

Hi,
I'm using Creative Suite CS4 on pc.
When I open an InDesign CS4 file, the fonts in the the linked .eps graphics, in this case numbers,
are shown as tall rectangles. If I open the source eps-graphic in Illustrator CS4,
all numbers are shown correctly. Resaving the eps-file and updating the link doesn't help, neither does
exporting to PDF. Fonts are still shown incorrectly in InDesign.
Both the InDesign-file and the eps-graphics were originally created with CS2.
Opening the InDesign-file in CS2 results in the fonts showing correctly.
Does anyone know what is causing this and how to solve the problem?
Quite perplexed!

Hi again,
Unfortunately, I am still stumped with this problem. I've taken a test document with 8 graphics and done the following:
1. saved all .EPS graphics to .AI > relinked in ID to .AI
2. used distiller with PDF/X1-a > relinked in ID to PDF
3. used distiller with PDF/X1-b > relinked in ID to PDF
4. used distiller with PDF/X3 > relinked in ID to PDF
5. saved .EPS graphics to .AI > resaved .AI to PDF/X-4 in Illustrator > relinked in ID to PDF
Results in all cases were "consistent" i.e. identical:
6 out of the 8 graphics were resized AND repositioned in ID!!
WHAT IS GOING ON HERE? Any more ideas, anyone?

Since updating my Mac to 10.8.4 any external hard disk doesn't show on Finder sidebar (but shows on desktop). Anyone else have the same problem?
It's annoying because now I can't use Finder sidebar for drag and drop to thumb drive etc.
Thanks for your thoughts and help!

    Hi Barney-15E,
Thanks for your reply and suggestions!
It is set to show on the sidebar in Finder prefs and I tried toggling the setting multiple times but it didn't fix anything.
I went into Preferences (I'm Administrator) but the strange thing is I don't see com.apple.sidebarlists.plist anywhere in the folder. Not sure what that means..

  • Ipod wont show up on itunes but shows up on my computer

Just got a 2nd gen ipod shuffle and trying to sync it to my itunes library. My library does not detect my shuffle but my computer does. When I run a diagnostic "ipod connection status" is red/failed and once I click help I am sent to downlaod latest version of itunes. I tried updating to the latest version of itunes v7.4.2 but when once I click on download it does not ask me to run or save, therefore I am also unable to update to the latest version. What am I doing wrong and how can I sync my shuffle to my library. Thanks in advance.

Have you had a chance to look at this troubleshooting page? It may be of some help: iPod shows up in Windows but not in iTunes
What version of Windows are you using? Windows 2000 for instance won't work with iTunes 7.4, it's no longer supported which could be why you can't get the version you downloaded to run:
iTunes for Windows in Windows XP or Windows 2000 doesn't open after upgrading
    iTunes 7.3.2 for Windows 2000

  • IPod doesn't show up in "computer" but shows up in iTunes

I recently got a new computer for university, and it (unfortunately) has Vista. My iPod is currently synced to another computer in the house that is running XP. I have followed Apple's instructions on how to use my iPod as a storage device to transfer all my music from one computer to the next. I have downloaded and installed the latest version of iTunes (7.2 I believe) ontp the new laptop. The problem is, when I plug my iPod into the new laptop, it shows up in iTunes, but it does not show up in "computer". I need to be able to access it from "computer" in order to transfer my music onto the new computer. Where can I find the iPod on my computer?? Thanks

The latest version of iTunes is 8.0, but version shouldn't affect what you're experiencing. With iTunes running and the iPod plugged in so that iTunes recognises it, select the iPod summary screen in iTunes, and make sure that the disk drive option box is checked. All things being equal, the iPod should then show up in Explorer. I use XP but can't see that this would be very different with Vista.
    Good luck.

  • My External Hard Drive and Pen Drives doesn't show up in desktop but shows in finder.

Hi, I've been wondering why my Pen Drives and Hard Drives won't show up in desktop when I plug it in.
Its showing up in finder but I cant seem to solve this problem. help!

    No problem.
    (1) Click on the Finder icon in the Dock.  If your dock is on the bottom of the screen, it is the icon on the far left.
    (2) Now, look at the menu called Finder at the top left of your screen and find "Preferences there". Or, you can just press command-,  (command-comma).
    (3) Anyway, once the Preference window opens select the category "General" from the choices there.  You will see a list of things which you can choose to have displayed on the Desktop.  Make your selections and close the window.

  • IPhoto faces and screen savers incorrect way round, but photos correct

    Hello,
I recently got a MacBook pro, and am in the process of organising my iPhoto library.
I seem to be having an issue where many of the faces are the incorrect way round in the faces view, but when I go to the file, it is correct.
This also happens with Screen savers.
    Could anyone help me?
    Thanks,
    James Rosen

    iPhoto Version 9.5.1 (902.17)
It was moved to the library by being imported from an NTFS external hard drive, which has now been reformatted to Mac OS Extended (Case Sensitive, Journaled), the iPhoto library was originally located on the built in SSD drive, but is now located on an external hard drive, due to capacity limitations.
I am seeing the incorrect face orientations when I view the faces in the faces view of iPhoto, when I go onto a person, some are incorrect orientation.
But when I click on the files, they are correct.

They are also incorrect using photo screen savers.
(These images are for demo purposes only, and the issue is not limited to the photos shown).

  • Linked .eps files cause error in InDesign CS5

I upgraded to CS5 about 2 weeks ago and all is well except:
In 2 files so far, some (but not all) of the links to .eps files (within anchored image frames) show up as gray rectangles with crossed diagonal lines. In addition, I get the following error message in a pop-up box:
"Error encountered while reading TIFF image. Image may be damaged or incompatible. Resave the image with different settings and try again."
I was able to make one graphic reappear correctly (at least for now) by opening the .eps file in AI CS3 (the latest I have), resaving it as a .ai file and doing a new Place. Is this the best way to resolve this issue for the several dozen .eps files? Or is there something else easier I should try?
Any ideas what's causing this issue? Is it maybe a known bug?
    Thanks,
    John
PS: The .eps files were created with 3rd party software (Sibelius music notation software), but I've never before (CS3 and CS4) had a problem.

I did NOT move the .eps files across a network (except that I have two computers in the same room and move files between them via an Ethernet hub in a Windows workgroup, but I assume you're referring to a LAN, which this is not).
Of course an Ethernet hub is a LAN! Absolutely! (LAN is a local area network.)
It's certainly a good idea to check to make sure the files are still the same, but if they still open in Illustrator, then they should work in InDesign.
(Moving files across networks, LANs or the Internet or what-have-you, should not corrupt them. But stranger things have happened.)
Also, you mention "tiny" PDFs...what? Generally speaking the PDFs should not be all that different in size from the eps files,
though it's possible for them to be both larger and smaller, depending. But why do you say "tiny"? I wonder if this may give us a hint about your problem.
Still, though, I wonder what I asked initially...can you boil this problem down to a small reproducible test case?

  • Is there a way to change the color of a linked eps or ai file in InDesign?

I have a questionaire form that I'm placing in several documents. I need it to be exactly the same in all instances except that it occurs in 4/c on some docs and 1/c (black) on others.
It'd be best to have all the Indesign files link to the same eps (or ai, or eps) file so that I know any change to the text of the linked questionaire will be reflected on all of the InDesign docs. But I don't think InDesign will let me change the color of the text and other filled or stoked elements of eps, ai, or pdf files.
I can change a these in a grayscale tif file. But rasterising the questionaire at a high dpi somewhat defeats the live update feature I'm trying to add here (and bloats my file size).
Could the fact that I can't change the document color mode to grayscale in AI be a factor here?
    Thank you for your time!

The only way I can think of is to use a Spot Colour in Illustrator.
You can then place that into InDesign and the Spot Colour should show up in the Swatches Panel.
In InDesign - create a New Swatch and have this be a Spot colour too.
Using the Swatches Panel flyout menu (top right) you can go Ink Manager...
From here you can Map the colour used in Illustrator to the colour you have creaeted in InDesign.
This will replace the colour in InDesign only - and results may vary on output.
You will need to use View>Overprint Preview to view the results.
    Hope that helps.

  • ITC Garamond Bold not showing in InDesign but OK in Photoshop/Illustrator

ITC Garamond not showing in Indesign CS4, Mac 10.5.8. But OK in Photoshop and Illustrator.
I removed the font cache and even used Fontnuque to remove all the fonts cache on my Mac to no avail.
    Any idea? Thanks

Thank you Buko, it work. Nice way to finish my week. Can enjoy my weekend now. Great tip.

  • HT201272 purchases not showing in iTunes grid, but showing downloaded under purchases

After converting to iTunes Match, I made additional purchases from the iTunes store.  They show as downloaded under purchases in the quick links on the home page, however, they do not appear in my iTunes library, Album Grid by Artist, etc.  I literally have to go to the purchases to play those songs vs. pulling them up in the album grid and playing them.
Has anyone else encountered this problem?
    Thank you.

I think the Purchased list in your library only shows purchases made on that computer. If they are music, film, or tv shows have you copied them onto your old computer (or a backup) so that they are in the main sections (Music, Films, TV Programmes) of your iTunes library ?

  • Hard Drive not showing in Disk Utility (but showing fine on PC)

I have been using an 1TB USB powered Hard Drive with my MBP for a year or so.
I got a new 2 TB drive and loaded it and installed the seagate dashboard software.
At that point, it appears something may have happened to my HP and it no longer appears on my Mac or in Disk Utility.  It appears to be getting power, and it shows up fine on a Windows PC.
    Any thoughts??
This one is really baffling me?
    Thanks

    One other note
A folder called TheVoumeSettingsFolder now appears on the HP, in case that is causing the issue.
    Thanks

  • OS X won't show OS X partition, but shows up (and works) in both Linux and Windows.

My Macbook Pro (early 2010, Intel 160 SSD) stopped working this weekend. I got the white screen with a folder with a question mark inside.
I checked if the drive was ok, and it seemed to be working, so i plugged it in a running Windows machine and booted Ubuntu from a USB stick. Drive shows up fine and works, i back up my stuff asap and go back to windows. Using MacDisk (or some other program, can't remember the name) i am also able to access the drive and copy stuff both to and from.
Lastly, after some time, i get a Lion installation to work on a USB drive and start it up. When i open Disk Utility it only shows a 1.52 GB partition called Mac OS X Base System and claims the drive is only that big. How can i resolve this?

    Hi gkamani2011,
Thanks for using Apple Support Communities.  I would recommend the troubleshooting steps in this article if your Mac isn't fully booting into the Mac partition:

  • External drive not showing in fcp x but showing in finder

I have a two gig usb external hard drive formatted for Mac OS Extended, and fcp x won't show it in the Event Library, even though it is seen in the finder.  I've put Logic Pro projects in there, but all I see is my other external firewire drive, 1 gig, and the Mac HD on FCP.  I have a quad core i7 with the 2.3 gHz  ... 8 gig ram.  Aaaargh ... help?  Thanks for your time!  Tim

In the DiskUtility go to "File>New>Blank Disk Image"
Save As: This is the name of the Disk Image File that you create ending with the dmg (or sparseimage) extension
FIle Selector Box: Select any location on any mounted drive where you want to store the Disk Image File.
Name: This is the name of the embedded Volume that shows up when you mount the disk image
Size: Select how much space you need
Format: select Mac OS Extended (Journal), this is the one that FCPx recognizes
Encryption: set to none unless you are working on sensitive CIA instructional videos "How to start War No4 and pretend it is for national security"
Partitions: I think you can leave that to "no partition map"
Image Format: select "sparse disk image" "or sparse bundle disk image". They are pretty much the same where the bundle chops up the data into small block. Both have the advantage that they expand meaning, even if you select a 2GB size, the disk image will only as big as the data you are storing into.
Once you created the Disk Image, it is just a file that you can move around (drives, Flash, Disc, etc). If you can see the file you just double click on it and it mounts like a mounted hard drive and voila it will show up in FCPx in the Event Library and Project Library.
This little trick enables you to work off volumes that FCPx can't see: TimeMachine Volumes, network drives, SAN, non HFS+ volumes.

  • MY PASSPORT WD Drive not showing on my macbook but shows on others.

For no reason whatsoever my macbook pro won't show my WD external HD.  It powers up normally and I see the light on the HD, it reads on other macbook pro's and it even gets read by my LG smart TV.  It used to be read on my macbook pro but for no reason it just doesn't show up anywhere, not even on disk utility.  Has anyone experienced this problem or have any recommendations for me?
    thanks

Thats the final piece.  (and you swapped out HD USB cables too on the "bad" HD?).
After swapping cables between the "2 identical WD USB HD", you have (nearly 100% certainty) a bad SATA card as I stated much earlier.
The case being, your other Macs will read/ write to this HD fine, but this one Mac wont. It makes very little logical sense to most (for obvious reasons), but that that one Mac is no longer able to communicate with said HD due to the SATA card.
.......This is why some of us HD 'collectors' call this the "haunted HD syndrome" , where a HD acts utterly illogical and contrary to common sense diagnostics (works fine on ONE Mac but not another)
You have 2 options, offload all data onto another HD that will work on that one Mac, OR crack open the HD case and remove the HD itself and put into another enclosure ($10-15$ ebay).
A SATA card is about the size of a stick of gum, its plugged into the HD with a female USB connection on the other side, it unplugs in 1/2 a second from the HD once you get into the HD casing.  Its a (junky) 50 cent part.
If a HD is over 3 months old (most all "bad" HD fail usually before the 3 month mark)  and LESS THAN 5 years old and treated very well, ....people that assume a non-working HD is a "bad" HD when in fact the HD is just 100% fine, its just that miserable little circuit card.
