Fonts in Publisher

Can a non standard font cause Publisher to crash? we have had several cases of publisher crashing when our team changes text formatting and header fonts.  They use non standard design fonts

Hi Swarna Deepika,
I am sorry for the late response, I saw your post just recently.
Regarding the bugs you refer to:
1.  It is possible to add images to Master Pages.
Open MDM Data Manager on the Images table. Image can be either stored in the repository or linked to an external source.
Open MDM Publisher and select the Master Page.
Drag an image from the Images table and drop it onto the master page spread.
You can not add images from an outside source that are not kept in the Images table neither to the master pages nor to  spreads (perhaps that is what you meant as external).
This is the current design and functionality and can not be considered a bug.
2. The Publish Sequential" with "Use Template" should work correctly.
What version are you using that InDesign closes abruptly?
I recommend opening an OSS message to investigate this issue.
Regarding the enhancements of MDM Publisher, I would like to refer you to an How to Guide I wrote on the new enhancements of Publisher in MDM 7.1.
http://www.sdn.sap.com/irj/scn/index?rid=/library/uuid/90f80e48-9bf3-2c10-a990-f986f968e992
In SP06 specifically, many operations were made multithreaded in MDLS so that the performance has increased dramatically,
SAP has no plans on stopping the development and support to MDM Publisher.

  • Font not publishing when viewing on diff platform

    Hi, i created a banner in flash on a PC at work and published
    it as html, when i tried to send the banner to my Mac at home, the
    font did not come up on the html page in firefox or safari, it came
    up with a default font.. I embeded the fonts in the flash file, but
    that did not work. i do not have the font (Shelley LT
    VolanteScript) on my mac. I have flash 8 at work and home. Could
    you suugest a solution to my promlem, so that i can view the banner
    on my mac with the correct font.

    >I embedded the fonts in the flash file,
    Do you mean that you embedded the font in the Textfield? or
    in the Library?
    You must embed the font into the textfield itself, unless you
    use a TextFormat method to do so, and when doing so the Font must
    be in the Library.
    Also you only need to embed a font if the Textfield is
    dynamic or input. If it is static then Flash will render the font
    on publishing.

  • Web page fonts not publishing correctly

    so, when I view my web page it sometimes looks completely different than it does on iweb. I've used three different computers and it will look right one second - then I refresh or I make a change and re-publish and then it goes all screwy. does this sound remotely familiar to anyone?
    I am using a font that is not standard on macs - a font that I purchased, would that make any difference? If so, that still doesn't make sense - because why would it work one minute and not the next.....??? stumped

    Welcome to the Apple Discussions.
    I am using a font that is not standard on macs - a font that I purchased, would that make any difference?
    Yes, that will be the reason. You can, however, get around that by turning the font box into a graphic. That's done by using the Font pane to add a drop shadow to the font and then moving the far right slider to the far left, making the shadow invisible.
    Go into iWeb's preferences and check the box next to "Show text imaging indicator" as seen here. This will tell you when the text has become an image.
    Otherwise you should use web safe fonts:
    Web Safe Fonts
    Common fonts to all versions of Windows & Mac equivalents
    Safe web fonts

  • Problems with fonts after publishing

    I have changed the font on my blog page from Arial (on the template) to Arial Narrow. I was able to publish successfully with the new font once (http://web.mac.com/onenightoff/OneNight_Off/One_Night_Off/Entries/2008/7/2_I_want_amökki.html)
    When I have changed the font in newer blog entries, it appears as the new font on iWeb but when published, it shows up as the original template font which, frankly is difficult to read. For example (http://web.mac.com/onenightoff/OneNight_Off/One_Night_Off/Entries/2008/7/17_Investmentopportunity.html)
    Any suggestions how I can make the font on the iWeb show up the way it is supposed to after being published?
    Thanks!
    Cecilia

    I just tried that but most of the pages appear to be in bold. So it seems I have the right font, but it is publishing as bold instead of regular. What is most strange is that I was able to publish one page and have it look the way it looks in iWeb, but that was just one page.

  • Fonts incorrectly embedded in CS5

    Apologies if this has been asked before, but the forum search box seems not to work...
    I have a problem with CS5 embedding fonts for no good reason. To replicate:
    Create new AS3 fla file
    In publish settings, click 'Generate Size report'
    Put some text on the stage - Classic text, static (Though it doesn't seem to matter)
    Make sure the font is '_sans' (There is no 'Use device fonts' option for this font choice)
    Publish the file
    Note that _sans is now embedded in the SWF, occupying bytes in the size report.
    Try the same in CS3, and there is nothing embedded, as you would expect. Unfortunately I can't get my fla loaded into CS3 because CS5 will only allow me to export as CS4.
    Similarly, change the font to something specific, like Verdana, and set it to use device fonts and it still embeds font data (We're talking about 3 or 4k) but doesn't list any glyphs.
    Occasionally though, by screwing around, it doesn't embed anything. Then nudge some text in some magical way and it's back to embedding redundant data.
    Is there a bug for this? Is there somewhere to report bugs, or search for existing bugs? Am I doing it wrong? Is there a known workaround?
    Help!
    - Ian Beveridge

    Hi again,
    I made several experiments with the following results:
    On the mac ther is still a font reported in the size report, but is is about 15 to 22 bytes depending on font (not) used. That can be tolerated I'd say, but still I don't understand why there is any increase in size and why there is a difference with different device-fonts. as it seems there is no need as the next point proofs.
    I can make and use the Textfield with AS and there is not a single byte of font (Symbol) to be found in the size report and inside the swf.
    decompiled the swf with the 70k of "gohst" font-symbol, and it came up in the library as a font symbol.
    Can anyone reproduce this behavior?
    There is a slightly paranoid afterthought:
    There are fonts that are expressedly forbidden to embed and with a lot of others you are always in a gray area (legally). If Flash embeds Font-Symbols -as one might conclude from my last observation- without the developer's knowingthis might even have legal reprocussions...
    (Maybe not the biggest thing, but sometimes lawyers can do what quality-control won't )

  • Alpha property not working on TextField when publish for Reader 9

    Hi,
    I have a movie that is working fine when I publish for Reader 10, but when I publish for Reader 9, the code that assigns an alpha property to my TextFields stops working. I have a previous movie, which I probably did in CS4, that uses similar code to fade in and out TextFields. It was published for Reader 9 and works fine.Is it possible that something has changed in CS5 (note, I'm not using TLF text boxes, only dynamic TextFields)?
    Here's an example of the code I'm using:
    stop();
    import fl.transitions.Tween;
    import fl.transitions.TweenEvent;
    import fl.transitions.easing.*;
    import flash.events.*;
    import flash.text.*;
    import flash.text.TextFormat;
    import flash.utils.Timer;
    import flash.display.MovieClip;
    import flash.display.Sprite;
    var txtFormat1:TextFormat = new TextFormat();
    txtFormat1.font = "Optima";
    txtFormat1.color = 0x000000;
    txtFormat1.bold = false;
    txtFormat1.size = 16;
    txtFormat1.leading = 2;
    var subtitle:TextField = new TextField();
    subtitle.autoSize = TextFieldAutoSize.CENTER;
    subtitle.selectable = false;
    subtitle.defaultTextFormat = txtFormat1;
    var fadeInSubtitle:Tween;
    addChild(subtitle);
    subtitle.x = stage.stageWidth / 2 - subtitle.width / 2;
    subtitle.y = stage.stageHeight / 2 - subtitle.height / 2;
    subtitle.alpha = 0;
    subtitle.text = "What is the most important question in";
    fadeInSubtitle = new Tween(subtitle,"alpha",None.easeNone,0,1,3,true);

    Thanks.
    Just curious: Is there a reason why the alpha on the TextFields worked without embedding fonts when publishing for Flash Player 10? Does it handle text, even when it's not TLF, differently than Flash Player 9?

  • Embedded Font Frustration

    Hi
    I am going round in circles with embedded fonts! I am using Flash on a Mac. When I embed my fonts and publish all looks good, I have embedded GG Superscript Sans and GG Subscript Sans. I am using Arial (not embedded). I have drawn text boxes and used the check options
    When viewing the site in Safari on the Mac I get perfection, subs, supers and bold. But in Windows (and Puffin on my iphone) the subs and supers do not show up. The bold does (<b> tag in external text file).
    The AS3 code in the flash swf is;
    import flash.net.URLRequest;
    import flash.net.URLLoader;
    import flash.events.Event;
    import flash.text.StyleSheet;
    // requests
    var c21specheadReq:URLRequest = new URLRequest("c21spechead.txt");
    var c21specbox1Req:URLRequest = new URLRequest("c21specbox1.txt");
    var c21specbox2Req:URLRequest = new URLRequest("c21specbox2.txt");
    var cssReq:URLRequest = new URLRequest("styles.css");
    // loaders
    var c21specheadLoader:URLLoader = new URLLoader();
    var c21specbox1Loader:URLLoader = new URLLoader();
    var c21specbox2Loader:URLLoader = new URLLoader();
    var cssLoader:URLLoader = new URLLoader();
    // listeners
    c21specheadLoader.addEventListener(Event.COMPLETE, c21specheadLoaded);
    c21specbox1Loader.addEventListener(Event.COMPLETE, c21specbox1Loaded);
    c21specbox2Loader.addEventListener(Event.COMPLETE, c21specbox2Loaded);
    cssLoader.addEventListener(Event.COMPLETE, cssLoaded);
    function c21specheadLoaded(event:Event):void {
              txtspec_txt.htmlText = c21specheadLoader.data;
    function c21specbox1Loaded(event:Event):void {
              txtbox1_txt.htmlText = c21specbox1Loader.data;
    function c21specbox2Loaded(event:Event):void {
              txtbox2_txt.htmlText = c21specbox2Loader.data;
    function cssLoaded(event:Event):void {
              var sheet:StyleSheet = new StyleSheet();
              sheet.parseCSS(cssLoader.data);
              txtspec_txt.styleSheet = sheet;
              txtbox1_txt.styleSheet = sheet;
              txtbox2_txt.styleSheet = sheet;
    // Load the files
    c21specheadLoader.load(c21specheadReq);
    c21specbox1Loader.load(c21specbox1Req);
    c21specbox2Loader.load(c21specbox2Req);
    cssLoader.load(cssReq);
    The text file looks like this;
    (g)  When atoms share pairs of electrons, they form covalent bonds.
    These bonds between atoms are strong.
    Some covalently bonded substances consist of simple molecules such as
    H<font face = 'GG Subscript Sans'>2</font>,
    Cl<font face = 'GG Subscript Sans'>2</font>,
    O<font face = 'GG Subscript Sans'>2</font>,
    HCl, H<font face = 'GG Subscript Sans'>2</font>O,
    NH<font face = 'GG Subscript Sans'>3</font>
    and CH<font face = 'GG Subscript Sans'>4</font>.
    Others have giant covalent structures (macromolecules), such as diamond and silicon dioxide.
    <b>(i)  The electrons in the highest occupied energy levels (outer shell)
    of metal atoms are delocalised and so free to move through the whole structure.
    This corresponds to a structure of positive ions with electrons between the

    The stylesheet is embarrassingly small!
    body {
    background-color: white;
    font-family:'Arial';
    img {
    border-width: 0;
    I'm trying for functionality before I decorate.
    Frustratingly, when playing with the checkboxes for the property inspecto for my text box I DID create a version that had subscript and superscript working in BOTH windows and mac browsers; BUT the BOLD stopped at that point.
    Very frustrating.
    I'd be delighted if someone could point me to a solution.
    Thanks
    Mark

    OK - it now works using Puffin Browser on my iphone, which seems to produce the same results as Windows browsers.
    I have changed to a TT font (Garamond) and embedded regular and bold versions.
    Very odd that this now cures the sub super problem.
    Lesson learned; embed all fonts used, slightly more cumbersome swf but functional.
    Now to look through the fonts for one that I like, Verdana is not my favourite!
    Any logic to my solution would be grateful!

  • Using an Embedded Font in another .swf

    I am encountering a situation with font embedding that hopefully someone out there will know the solution to. This is a slightly boiled-down version of the problem but all the pertinent details are included. Without further ado, here's the situation:
    TLDR Version:  If I have a font embedded and registered with Font.registerFont(), and I attempt to use that font in a .swf that was compiled from an .fla in Flash CS5 that so much as MENTIONS that font, it fails.
    Longer Description:
    The Goal: Embed fonts in 1 .swf, use those fonts in many .swfs. Simple.
    Fonts.swf
    I have 3 .swf files. The first is called Fonts.swf. This was created in Flash CS5. It contains an embedded font( Franklin Gothic Demi ) with characters a-z, A-Z, numerals, and punctuation, etc. Regular, not bold. The font is exported for actionscript and the class is FranklinGothicDemi.
    On the main timeline of Fonts.swf is the code:
    Font.registerFont( FranklinGothicDemi ).
    Application.swf
    The second .swf is Application.swf. The following code snippet is from Application.as:
    [Embed(source="Fonts.swf")]
    private static var EmbeddedFonts:Class;
    initFonts()
    var embedFont:EmbeddedFonts = new EmbeddedFonts();
    embedFont.addEventListener( Event.COMPLETE, function( e:Event ){ traceEmbeddedFonts(); } );
    When traceEmbeddedFonts is called, it verifies that Franklin Gothic Demi is in fact registered.
    UserInterface.swf
    The third .swf file is UserInterface.swf. Fonts are NOT embedded in this file. They are not supposed to be. The project has many .swf files and they should all be using the fonts embedded in Fonts.swf.
    On the main timeline of UserInterface, it calls it's own version of traceEmbeddedFonts(), which again confirms that Franklin Gothic Demi is embedded.
    Inside UserInterface is a TextField we'll call mMainTextField, with some text, say "Main Menu". The font is "Franklin Gothic Demi", the anti-alias style is 'use device fonts.' I have tried other anti-alias styles as well.
    As it turns out, UserInterface.swf is 'embedding' Franklin Gothic Demi, with a character set of a big fat 0 characters. This is taking precedence over the Franklin Gothic Demi font embedded from Fonts.swf. I can side-step this problem by setting mMainTextField to use some other Font while publishing and then using actionscript to change it back to Franklin Gothic Demi when the project is running, but that's not a solution that is friendly to the artists.
    In essence, the question is simple: Why is Flash Embedding and Registering fonts with character sets of size 0, despite the fact that nowhere in UserInterface.swf is there a request to embed fonts, and how do I prevent it from doing so?
    If anyone who sees this has already encountered and solved this problem and shares the solution with me, you will be my favorite person .
    Thanks!
    -J

    You know, I think its just a bug inside Flash Builder Burrito. When I run my app through the emulator it doesn't display correctly but when I run it on my phone it works as it should.

  • Can't post comments to pages

    When anybody (including myself) tries to leave a comment, an error message simply says "Sorry. We are unable to process your request at this time." Is this a Mobileme thing again?

    I don't understand why this worked, but it did. Through Apple support, I was instructed to disable the Ariel font in my applications folder. I had to erase all the comments (that were in Ariel) and retype them into the blog (I couldn't copy and paste for some reason). I made sure the ADD COMMENTS line was at the end of the blog, and made sure the box was checked in the inspector function. I then saved all the retyped comments (in a different font) and deleted the original Ariel font comments, published to mobileme, and the post comments function now works. Here are the instructions I followed:
    Symptoms
    The iWeb 1.1 update adds comment support for blogs and podcasts (MobileMe published sites only). Depending on which font and templates you use, the "Add Comment" link may not function correctly in your published blog entries.
    If you experience this issue, instead of an Add Comments link at the bottom of your blog entry, you may see a non-functional link that reads @post or @comment.
    Products Affected
    iLife, .Mac/iWeb website hosting, MobileMe
    Resolution
    Update to iWeb 1.1.1 or later and republish any pages which use Arial fonts. If you're not able to update immediately, you can use the following steps:
    Open Font Book, located in your Applications folder.
    Disable the Arial Family of fonts in your User collection. For more info see Turning off fonts.
    In iWeb, create a new blog or podcast to replace the old one.
    If you have content in the old blog that you wish to keep, cut and paste it into new entries in the new blog or podcast.
    Delete the old blog or podcast from the Site Organizer.
    Publish your site.
    If you do not create new blogs after disabling the fonts in your user collection, you may see "Missing Font" error messages when you open iWeb.
    Note: Mac OS X installs fonts in /Library/Fonts, including Arial fonts. Some software packages install fonts on your computer when you install or first launch an application. Those fonts will typically be installed in ~/Library/Fonts.

  • Embedding Unicode Characters

    Dear List
    I am at a loss with flash fonts embedding once again.   I am using Flex 3 for coding and the Flash 4 IDE for font and assets management.
    I used the following steps to include the fonts:
    CS4 IDE:
    1) Library : New Font 'HelveticaNeueRegular'  mapped to Helvetica Neue Regular
    2) Export for ActionScript and Export in Frame 1 enabled
    3) Class Name: HelveticaNeueRegular
    4) Base Class: flash.text.font
    5) Publish file as swc
    Flex:
    6) Include the swc file in the project.
    7) Code: Font.registerFont(HelveticaNeueRegular);
    External XML:
    8) Use an external xml file for all dynamic text.  Define css classes with the span tag
    External CSS:
    9) Define the styles like this:
    .articleText{
        font-family:"Helvetica Neue";
        font-size:15;
        color:#000000;
    The Problem:
    Now the above works fine, but when I try to display special characters such as superscripts or Caron accents they don't show up.
    What I've tried:
    I've tried to put an additional textfield with the additional characters (ie: ²Žž) to embed on the stage in the CS4 IDE as well as in the library as a separate symbol with the export in 1st frame enabled.  In both cases I included the characters with the text property option 'Character Embedding' > 'Include these Characters' and I also put the characters in the textfield itself.  I used both the real name of the font as well as the Libaray Font name (ie: HelveticaNeueRegular*)
    No luck
    Any suggestions on how to get these special unicode character outlines to display?
    Thank you all
    Regards
    sk

    Thank you again.  I remember having a hard time finding a suiteable and working solution to embed the outlines for xml / html text / external css.  Somehow all other solutions had some sort of drawback or plainly didn't work.  Since I do have the CS4 IDE I would imagine that above solution should work.  In the past putting a dynamic text field on the stage and embedding additional characters through the property window would work.
    Not sure what to do now...
    I guess I can try again to embed the fonts by linking it directly to the font in the Flex IDE and then specify the unicode fonts there.  I will give it a shot.  If someone knows of a way of making this work in CS4 > export to .swc for Flex (as3 project) please let me know.
    Much thanks to everyone.
    Regards
    sk

  • Typekit integration

    Are there any future plans to integrate purchased Typekit fonts into the Muse Fonts Menu?
    This embedding code and only previewing fonts once published is proving to be a pain in the proverbial,
    it doesn't help workflow.
    Thanks

    Hi,
    I assume you are referring to a workflow similar to http://museinsider.com/how-to-add-typekit-fonts-to-your-muse-site.html
    I am sorry we don't expect to be able to offer seamless Typekit integration in the near future.
    However, we'd like to evaluate if we can implement something that's an improvement over the muse insider workflow.
    To that end, could you answer the following questions (in private, if you prefer):
    1. Which aspects of the muse insider workflow are most and least inconvenient to you
    Creating a kit at typekit.com
    Including embed code in Muse
    Inability to work with the actual font during Design
    Inability to see the actual font during Preview
    Other (please specify)
    2. Do you own the desktop versions of the fonts you wish to use on the website?
    3. Are the fonts in the list here: http://help.typekit.com/customer/portal/articles/1189216-coming-soon-syncing-fonts-to-your -desktop
    4. Are you an Adobe Creative Cloud subscriber?

  • Making ebooks for iPad?

    Not sure where to post this. As there is no appropriate category, I guess my question is answered. It is: Has Apple produced an iWeb-like application (for Mac—i.e., simple but reasonably sophisticated) that can put together ebooks for the iPad?
    Did I miss it?

    I think it is most unlikely that searchability played any role in the decision to use ePub rather than PDF in iBooks, but if you can find a reference to the contrary someplace I would welcome seeing it.
    One fans the flames, the other douses the flames.
    In technical terms, for PDF reflowing / reformatting / repurposing it is necessary that structure information for the parts of the page and semantic information for the simple CMAP shaping and the supplementary glyph substitution shaping be preserved.
    Advertising PDF as the Internet standard, and advertising PDF archiving from Quartz at the introduction of Mac OS X, Apple at the same time opted not to implement tagged PDF at the introduction of Mac OS X.
    John Zimmerer, Color and Imaging Product Manager, launched a PDF User Feedback in 2003. This process was patterned on the ICC User Feedback in 2001 (relayed / reposted to the ColorSync Users List at the time).
    The first decision on what to implement in the document model for Mac OS X, and the following decision to on what to implement in the composition model for Mac OS X, compounds the problems of chaotification caused by broken font product published by Adobe and Linotype.
    There is a complaint in the Copenhagen business press (Politiken). The complaint concerns the number of press pieces on the iPad (120) compared to competing products (3). Considering that the product cannot be purchased, the complaint is in fact correct.
    Adobe is good at spin, too. Jonathan Seybold told the New York Times in 1991 that he would publish in Warnock's viewable PostScript product two years before it was released for review. Seybold saw it as the mission of Seybold Publications to promote the Adobe imaging model.
    When I received the review CD for Acrobat Search in September 1994, there was no word of Apple's Portable Digital Document model whereas other page turners were openly demolished on the review CD. At Seybold SF in September 1994, Spindler and Warnock announced the shift from Print, then Distribute to Distribute, then Print alongside Adobe support for Apple QuickTime in the Adobe PDF document model and support for Apple OpenDoc in the Adobe application model, reported by Chief Editor Kurt Wolf in Deutsche Drucker. Perhaps paradoxically, one of the reasons for the ISO 15930 PDF/X family of standard rendering specifications is that Apple QuickTime does not belong in a printing master .

  • Customizing Interactions

    Customizing font size in body of the timeline interaction reverts back to very light grey, small default font when published. It has allowed me to customize fonts in previous interactions. It does however, take multiple attempts to change the default font size in the customize option, changing to 16 pt font, it will default from 10 to 30. The light grey font is very difficult to read when published.

    Hi ,
    This seems to be a bug with Timeline interaction.
    Sorry for the inconvenience. We will try to address this in the coming releases.

  • My Publisher plugin Open Type Fonts DON'T PRINT iPhoto 6.0.5 (316)

    I want to post this problem in the hopes it will save some other people the 7 months of frustration I have gone through with My Publisher.
    Apparently, My Publisher is unable to print Open Type fonts. After 7 months of editing and re-editing photos, scanning and re-scanning photos, and placing 13 different orders, someone at My Publisher finally called me to help with the problem. The phone call came after I had emailed Walt Mossberg of the WJS about their total lack of customer service!
    After every order I placed, for the same book, was cancelled, I received the exact same form email, which said I have a corrupt photo file/.jpg and I should fix it. I kept telling them that the Mac and iPhoto don't send them any .jpgs, only a PDF file. No matter what I told them, I got the same email in reply—I have a corrupt .jpg.
    Once they decided to help me (after almost 7 months), we were able to narrow down the problem within a week. They had me produce the same book on a PC, which I was unable to do because they only have about 4 templates and 6 fonts to choose from and are nothing like iPhoto. I made a book and just randomly inserted all the photos, no text. The book printed fine, proving to My Publisher that there was nothing wrong with any of my .jpgs.
    I questioned My Publisher as to why the PC was limited to 6 fonts and were they installed with their BookMaker software and they said "Yes." This led me to believe my problem was with the fonts and they agreed. After talking to them further about fonts, they said they had trouble printing Post Script fonts, but they had printed several books for me that used Post Script fonts. The culprit turned out to be an Open Type font. Once I changed the Open Type font to the True Type version, the book printed perfectly. I don't know if this problem was limited to only this particular font or all Open Type fonts.
    I have asked My Publisher to pursue this problem and post information about it on their website so other people don't have to go through all this frustration.
    Other than this problem, I have been very happy with all the books I have received from My Publisher. The quality has been excellent. The color is a bit off in a few photos some of the time, but for the most part, the color is quite accurately reproduced, at least to my eye. Hot pinkish/purple colors seem to pose a problem.

    Thanks for the information. I hope to place my first order with them. I am searching for others' experiences to make sure I don't make the same mistakes.
    Thanks again.
