Fonts in terminal!

Hi,
I recently did a clean install of arch linux, and I can't seem to setup my fonts in the terminal window.
I have selected terminus as font, but only my username in the terminal is using the terminus font, everything else is some other bold shitty font as you can see in the image below
please help!

Fonts in terminal emulators (terminal from xfce)

I always have problems with fonts in terminal emulators, because I can never choose good one.
Now I found perfect terminal emulator, it's called Terminal.
I have Arch on three computers at home - two workstations and one server.
On one workstation I am able to use "Luxi Mono" font in Terminal.
On another workstation there is no such font available in Terminal (but it is in xfontsel), and all other fonts sux.
I found this font in /usr/share/fonts/Type1/fonts.cache-1. This file is available on both workstations and /usr/share/fonts/Type1 is in both xorg.conf.
Do you have any tips how to enable more fonts in Terminal? Do you have any favourite terminal emulator font which looks good and has iso-8859-2 encoding?

No that doesn't seem to work, it looks like they are a different format (PSF versus PCF).
There is this for converting PCF to PSF: http://unix.stackexchange.com/a/21144 (courtesy of...)
So we should need a utility to do the opposite i guess.
As always, there are a couple of steps:
You can use psftools to convert from .psf to .bdf, and from there to .pcf

Problem with font in terminal.app

Hello all
I tried to use the font Inconsolata (downloadable from http://www.levien.com/type/myfonts/inconsolata.html) with the terminal.app. Prior to the update to snow leopard everything was alright. But now this font doesn't render anymore in the terminal.app (although it worked once till the next restart also under snow leopard!). Strange thing is, the font works absolutely normal in all other apps (e.g. macvim oder texteditor). So the font seems to be ok. But why does the font not work any more in the terminal.app? Is there a special font-cache for the terminal? I already tried to delete the user and the system font cache.

That is very strange. OpenType was the format that had the least issues as Apple worked out the early bugs in the complete 64 bit rewrite of the font engine in Snow Leopard. Type 1 PostScript was where the majority of the trouble was.
As I noted above, I had no trouble with the font, so can only assume there's some sort of issue with your system. At least the TrueType version works.
The only thing not done was reinstalling the OS. If you want to take the time to try that, back up the drive and run the OS X installer from the desktop. That will put a fresh copy of OS X on the drive while keeping all of your third party apps, preferences and such intact. Then apply all available updates.

Can't figure how to get larger fonts in terminal

I am new and very happy to say I've got Arch/XFCE/nfs working on network and soon to work on Samba but how in the wide wide world of sports can I get larger font on my terminal when in XFCE?

I too have experienced the "agony of defeat" with fonts and xterm. Here is how I use to launch my xterm:
xterm -fa "andale:size=18" -bg black -fg white -geometry 80x25 -tn xterm-color -sl 1000
* The key is the "size" parameter after the font (fa)mily name. I was using True Type fonts and was using "andale" in this case. I believe the size field should be applicable to whichever font you choose. Alternatively, I believe you can pass the "-fs" option to xterm to accomplish the same thing as ":size".
For example,
xterm -fa "andale" -fs "18"
will accomplish the same text size as in the first example. Just try different font size (fs) values, and see which values will actually scale for that font.
One caveat, I believe the "fa" option for xterm is limited to the freetype library fonts.

Russian fonts in terminal application

I cannot get terminal to print Russian fonts when I switch to the Russian language. I get the UTF-8 codes instead of the cyrillic characters. If I hit enter after typing a string of codes the terminal then prints the codes in cyrillic and displays an unrecognized command message. I'm using SWI-Prolog and I need to have the terminal display Russian characters. There is no choice for Russian in the terminal settings -- there are Chinese and Korean setttings. Help would be invaluable, since I now have to run Linux to get the terminal behavior I need. If Linux can do it, Mac must also be able to!

[SOLVED] Glitch using anti-aliased font in Terminator ...

Hi ( sorry for my poor english )
I've just installed Archlinux and it works well but I've a font problem using any terminal ( as far as I can test, I've installed Terminator, urxvt, xfce4-term ... )
When I use an "aliased font" I've got glitchs as shown on this screenshot http://img687.imageshack.us/img687/1108/screennm.png
But when I change font for a normal one ( aliased ) everything work fine.
Is there any way to make anti-aliased fonts working with terminal ?

Edit: Fixed, it was the "loose binding" option from compiz that creates the glitchs.

i already do have anti-aliasing turned on. black text on a white background is anti-aliased as expected. i'm trying to use white on black and the difference, while subtle, is there. since i sit in front of a terminal and program all day, i want a font and display combination that is easier on my eyes than what i'm seeing now. i'll go back to black text on light background for now, but in the long run i prefer the opposite style.

Kde konsole messes fonts - gnome-terminal looks ok. Reason?

I have strange situation - after some upgrade couple of days ago fonts in KDE konsole broke. To make it more specific - standard fonts look more or less ok, but when I use my national characters (like ąćęłńśóźż) they all look broken - like from another font, or badly scaled.
The same problem doesn't exist in gnome-terminal.
I usually use Terminus font, so I used this for demonstration, but it shows in other fonts as well - if that will be necessary I will provide list.

I've got the same problem. It looks like KDE does not read all characters for Terminus font, or reads in only one encoding. If you go to System settings -> Font installer, you see that terminus has very few characters there, and does not have special national characters.
However, I've no idea how this can be solved. I'd guess it's some bug in KDE, but on the other hand downgrading KDE to previous version does not help at all.
Any ideas?

Missing font for terminal

I am setting up 42 new education emacs. Was doing some font clearing and apparently I did some thing that will not allow the terminal to work. I would think that the terminal font would be part of
system>library>fonts
which I did not touch. Apparently not because now all I get is a tine box with terminal that I cannot stretch
What did I do?

Does the issue repeat in a new user ?
If not then try pulling ~/Library/Preferences/com.apple.Terminal.plist to the desktop, log out/in of the original user and see what happens.

No japanese fonts in Terminal.app

Hi,
I installed fresh Snow Leopard and I like it.
But I got something strange problem on Terminal.app. Japanese fonts are not displayed!
I tried completely new OS installation for 3 times and nothing changed...
Can anybody help me? Thank you.

Try trashing any .plist with terminal in its name found in Home/Library/Preferences.
Try creating a new user account and see if you have the same problem when logged into it.
You could try running the Japanese language translation installer again. It can be found in the OptionalInstalls.mpkg on the Snow Leopard DVD.

Lpr printer font from terminal--how do i change it?

i have MacOS X 10.3.4 (640 MB ram); Terminal 1.4.2 (v100)
which i inherited; recently discovered gnu under all that gui.
i love it. but when i cat|lp, i'm stuck in 18pt Monaco, and
lose a line on every page. not to mention, tabs are hosed.
changing fonts on the terminal window works fine, but does
affect the print. man lp mentions -o raw, but no other options.
help?

indeed. Textedit can read most of 'em, and print them to suit.
the peculiar advantage of lpr is that it's much slower
which is a distinct advantage when the black cartridge is
low on ink-- 2nd & subsequent pages will be faint with
textedit (unless i colorize it); lpr is legible all the way.

i would like to use chinese and japanese characters in the terminal, but everytime i type something in it gives me the numerical code for the character. anyone know how to have it display properly?

Ugly Terminal Font

I have an old application that has a text indicator requiring a non-proportionally spaced font. Years ago, it looked great with 11pt terminal font.
I recently tried to update that application and noticed that the text display has became very ugly, blocky and unreadable. (It seems the some other sizes (9 or 13) look much better, see image. Same in LabVIEW 8.0...8.5)
This is now under Windows XP and curiously enough, the font control panel does not even show a "terminal" font. Where then does LabVIEW get it from?
Anyway, I am trying to figure out if this problem is due to an upgrade of the OS or a change in the newer LabVIEW versions. Could it be that my old computer had a different "terminal" font installed?
Potential workaround: I noticed that "Lucida Console" is an evenly spaced font that look great at all sizes, so maybe I will switch to that one. Is this a stock OS font or did it possibly get installed wth some other program? I want to make sure things work in built applications.
Does anyone have more information on where the terminal font used by LabVIEW is located?

Hi altenbach,
The "Terminal" font is a Windows font; however, it appears to be hidden by default on XP and does not show up in the Windows\Fonts folder. It is also not called terminal.fon. Try searching your computer for 8514oeme.fon or vgaoem.fon and see if you can locate these files. If you open them with the Windows Font Viewer, you will see that the title of the font is "Terminal". If you right-click and go to the file's properties, you can uncheck "Hidden" and then it should show up in your Fonts folder.
I don't know if the font has changed from one OS to another, so I can't say why it looks different in the same application on a Windows XP machine.

Cannot use win7 fonts in xfce4-terminal

Hi, I recently installed the ttf-win7-fonts AUR package successfully. I can use these fonts in LibreOffice, but not in xfce4-terminal. I do not see them in the menu for fonts when I go to Preferences->Appearance->Font.
The .ttf files are in the /usr/share/fonts/TTF directory. I tried running fc-cache and restarting xfce4-terminal and Awesome. I also tried creating a ~/.fonts directory, copying the .ttf files there, but I still cannot use them.
What am I missing? Any help is appreciated.

Im not sure about this but, why would you want those fonts in terminal? : i suggest to take a lot at the infinality repo that has a lot more fonts and tey are open source.
