FONTS IN WORD

Hi there.
Please can somebody help me?
For some reason the fonts that are in the Microsoft word font folder don't appear in word when I open it to type a document. The fonts in my 'font book' appear instead!
How do I change this setting in word for fonts to appear from the 'word font folder'?

My mac won't start at all! Yip, I messed about with disabling fonts in 'font book' and my mac froze.
That will happen if you managed to disable the LucidaGrande.dfont in the /System/Library/Fonts folder. This font above all others is important to OS X. Follow the steps in Undoing Font Book. Note that you will lose any font collections you have created. Doing this will also clear the system's font cache files. You should be able to perform this function as a Safe Mode startup will bypass pretty much all of your user settings. Since this will delete the Font Book database, a new one will be created when you restart the second time normally. This will, by default, bring Lucida Grande back as active.
I turn the on/off switch and it flashes.
If you can't get into Safe Mode, then turn the Mac off. Press and hold the power button until it shuts down. If it won't turn off that way, unplug the Mac (last resort). Let your computer sit for 10 seconds or so and turn it back on. Immediately press the CommandOption+PR keys to zap the PRAM. Continue holding the keys until the Mac chimes three or four times. Right after the last chime you hold the keys for, release and hold down the Shift key to boot into Safe Mode. You should then be able to finish the procedure outlined in Resetting Font Book.
To answer your previous question - there was a fonts folder in Library that already existed, I just replaced it with the fonts folder that I needed to use for Word.
You should have simply moved the fonts into the existing Fonts folder rather than replacing it. Once you get as far as finishing the Safe Mode steps and can restart normally, then launch Disk Utility and run Repair Permissions on your startup drive so the system can reassign the correct permissions to that Fonts folder.

  • HP 1200 not printing pdfs/uses default fonts in Word docs

    Happy Birthday USA!
Last week I loaded 10.4.10 to Mac mini and eversince I have not been able to print pdfs from Adobe Reader or print desired fonts from Word.
(I have overcome default to US letter problem in Word)
I have loaded latest drivers from HP site/ installed original drivers from HP disk but these appear to be for OSX rather than 10.4.10.
    Any suggestions?

First of all I would try running Repair Disk Permissions. This can help with printing issues, especially after updates.
If you are able to print the same pdf's from Preview that you cannot from Acrobat, then you could try deleting its plist with it closed. If that doesn't help then try deleting and reinstalling Reader.
Re Word, are you getting Courier substitution for the fonts that are not printing or is the line blank where the text should be?

  • Help with embedding Type1 OTF Fonts in Word 2007/2010 docs

    Hi,
I purchased a few Adobe OpenType Pro fonts including Myriad Pro and Garamond Pro. I want to use those fonts in Word 2007 and/or 2010 .docx type documents. It works fine while I work on my PC which has the fonts installed. Word recognizes the fonts and I can use them, in the 2010 version even with some OpenType features like ligatures, medieval numerals, etc. However, I have tremendous difficulties embedding those fonts so recipients can actually read and/or edit my documents.
Exporting the fiels into PDF also skips embedding the fonts (at least as long as I use Microsofts PDF Export).
    Can someone please tell me:
    1) Is embedding of OpenType fonts in Word 2007 or 2010 possible at all?
    2) If not, can I trade in the fonts for the corresponding TrueType versions?
    3) If that is not possible, is there a way to convert the fonts into TrueType without losing too much of the font quality?
Thank you all for your kind support.
    JP

Microsoft only allows embedding of TrueType fonts and OpenType TrueType-flavored fonts to be embedded in their Office documents. There is nothing in OpenType CFF fonts (the OpenType fonts with Type 1 outlines in them) from being embedded in Office documents other than a business decision by Microsoft. Complain to them.
No, Adobe does not provide its OpenType CFF fonts in OpenType TrueType format.
No, there is no reasonable way to “convert” OpenType CFF fonts to OpenType TrueType format without some degradation of quality. Essentially you would be converting Bezier curves definition outlines in quadratic curve outlines and discarding the hinting which provides for intelligent scaling.
I suggest you complain to Microsoft about this. Again, it is their business decision and pretty bone-headed one at that!

  • How do I convert PDF/JPEG file in "Brush Script MT" font to Word Document

How do I convert PDF/JPEG file in "Brush Script MT" font to Word Document? (I checked with Acrobat XI pro but no use

You cannot in Adobe Reader. You can try in Acrobat, but first you must try to run OCR (Text Recognition). I have never tried OCR on a script font.

  • Missing fonts in Word documents?

I have just got a new iMac and have upgraded to Word for Mac 2011 from Word OSX and when I open older documents the original documents fonts are missing. Any ideas how I can globally correct this rather than changing each document everytime I open it

  • Font Book is selecting random fonts in word and pages

When I try to click a font for example, Times, it changes to a completely random one in pages or word. I downloaded new fonts but now i cannot change it back. Please help!

Hi Fitzy564! Welcome to the AppleWorks forum, a forum dedicated to the application AppleWorks. Your question would be better answered in Pages forum or MacOs 10.5 forum on this site. It would also help if you would describe the problem in more detail, like when did this start, have you done some maintenance late on the computer, new installed third applications, what does really happen when you choose a font etc. .

  • [CS 4] Is it possible to change the font preview word? (eg: default is 'sample')

    Hello Adobe Community,
I know that with past versions, changing the word that was used to preview fonts ('sample') was not possible (in 2006 anyway). But, because I believe CS4 came out in 08, I was wondering if this was a feature that had been implemented since then for CS4.
If it wasn't done for CS4, is it currently availible for CC? It would be a great feature to have! I know you can change the preview size (which helps a lot) but changing the word would be awesome if you're doing a 'try out' for how a specific phrase looks and want to glance at the preview list instead of going through each font with the arrow keys to change it.
    Thanks all!

One trick that has worked for me is to open a new file. Then using the Type Tool, I would type out a phrase or paragraph.
Do not commit the type, instead use Ctrl or Cmd a to select the entire typed phrase.  Then Ctrl/Cmd h to hide the highlight
    without deselecting.
From there, you can try different fonts, font color, styles and sizes and see a live preview of what it looks like and make notes so as to narrow down your choices.
You can also use this trick on an actual project, such as a poster or flyer.
I hope that answers it for you and if it works as expected,no need to upgrade unless there are other reasons.

  • Why won't FrameMaker load some fonts? Word sees them!

    FrameMaker Fonts Not Being Recognized
    OS: Windows 7
    FrameMaker (Structured): Version 10.0.2.419
    Problem:
We noticed that the PC I have does not include all of the client's fonts. We purchased the fonts based upon the Missing Fonts error FrameMaker (structured) keeps displaying. IT installed the recently purchased fonts (the fonts have the same name). Microsoft Word recognizes the fonts but for some reason when opening those source files, those fonts are not recognized/loaded by FrameMaker. Consequently, the fonts are temporarily replaced, as expected in this scenario. The same files open fine on another PC.
    This is what we tried:
Uninstalled both Acrobat Professional (version 10.1.3) and FrameMaker 10 (10.0.2.419). Reinstalled both packages and opened the source files once again. The fonts still are not recognized. In FrameMaker they appear greyed-out in the selection field.
Could the system profile be corrupted? Years ago I remember RoboHelp repeatedly corrupting my system profile on my Windows XP system. Could a “Running out of memory” situation do this?
Any suggestions as to where to look?
    Thanks in advance!

I have seen a lot of fonts and I have never seen this message.
How do you "install" the fonts?
Do you happen to have any sort of font managing software working?
should I try uninstalling frame and reinstalling?
I don’t think this is necessary. If at all, FrameMaker creates a font cache file in %appdata%\Adobe\FrameMaker\9\.cache_fonts. You might want to delete this file and then restart the computer before starting FrameMaker again.

  • Fonts in Word Disappeared

All of a sudden most of my MS Word fonts no longer show up when I open Word. I also notice that User folder in font Book is off and I can't get it to be enabled.
The fonts all seem to be in Library/Fonts and in Office Fonts.
Would appreciate any help on what to do to get my fonts to appear again.

    Thank you for your responses.
The solution turned out to be just getting the User fonts enabled following this knowledge base answer. (which I would not have understood without your explanation that the ~ means your Home folder.)
Mac OS X 10.4: User collection in Font Book is dimmed ("Off")
In Font Book, you may come across a situation where the "User" collection in the Collection column appears dimmed with the word "Off" next to it, and you can't enable "User" from the Edit menu. This can happen after reinstalling Mac OS X 10.4 Tiger, or after manually removing items from the Fonts folder within your home folder's Library folder.
To resolve this issue, manually add a font to your Fonts folder (~/Library/Fonts), then restart your computer. The User collection should then be available in Font Book.
    Thanks again.

  • Converting Embedded fonts in Word 2010

Need help converting Word 2010  doc to pdf. Doc has an embedded font that is not installed on my computer. Tried doc in PDF complete and the font converts to PDF fine, but the quality output is a little blurry in heighest  print quality. Is there a way Acrobat XI Pro can convert so I can get a sharp quality readable document?

I am assuming the font is embedded in the WORD file. I would hope that just printing would include the font unless it is not licensed for embedding (something that MS might likely ignore, but Adobe does not). What version of Acrobat are you working with and what OS? You can check for embedding in the document properties font tab (ctrl-D).

  • Typing IPA font into Word document

Is anyone familiar with some convenient way of typing the IPA (International Phonetic Alphabet) font in a Word document. Word doesn't even recognize the IPA font I have installed. The only thing I have been successful with is painfully inserting the font one by one using the Character Palette into TextEdit.
Is there another IPA font that is more compatible? I thought all truetype fonts would work... Is there another program I need to use the keyboard to type a strange font?

  • Re: default fonts for word processing

I am new to the entire OS X Operating system (after working in Appleworks and OS 9.2 for ages). I can't seem to access the online tutorials (probably due to I'm still on dial-up..yes, I do know that I'm a dinosaur, but all of us can't afford the latest, brightest, and best!)
My question is this, is there a way to make a default font (courier new) instead of the Helvetica that appears all the time. It's even showing up after I do a page break. This is a real irritant. I've managed to figure out how to do 25 lines per page under the points. Still struggling with this and how to use the key characters to do accents.
    All help appreciated.

    michele,
Since there's no global Pages preference to change the default type face, there's only one way to do it: start with a blank word processing template, set the font to your liking, asjust margins, turn on rulers and views, then do a File > Save As Template. You can then set a preference to start up Pages with this document.
    Hope this helps.

  • Telugu - Use font in Word and InDesign

For work purposes, I have to create a bilingual brochure (English - Telugu) but I'm having huge problems with finding a font that works... It needs to be usable in both Word and InDesign and also able to combine Telugu with English. Normally we use Frutiger and Meta, so any font that suits these styles would be great. Hopefully you can help me out, your help would be greatly appreciated! Thanks for reading my question!

If you're using CS4 with the hidden "World-Ready Composer" functionality (read this article), you might be able to get Telugu to render correctly. Otherwise, you're probably out of luck. Telugu requires support for rendering methods that aren't in any other version of InDesign, so I doubt that your probem is really to be found in the fonts, as you suspect.
In languages that InDesign doesn't support, I sometimes have success back-converting to ancient pre-Unicode fonts, but I've never done so with Telugu, so I can't say for sure that such a solution would work for you.
