Fonts in xfontsel (but not in OOo)

hey people,
I tried to install some TTF fonts. They do show up in xfontsel, but not in OpenOffice. The thing is: these are three fonts that have been created on a mac. they had the extension .suit, but I changed it to TTF (the creator of the fonts told me they were in fact true type fonts), and I added them to the system. Now they show up in xfontsel, but not in OO.
Any ideas what to do?

rogier

this is an old wiki, now your fonts are installed in /usr/share/fonts/artwiz-fonts
I don't know if it works, but the ":unscaled" option could be added right after the artwiz font path in your /etc/X11/xorg.conf
I really don't know if this is appropriate, just suggesting.. It could look less ugly..  I know it works for DPI 100 or 75..

  • FontBook font corruptions [?] - but not in all apps.

I'm scratching my head on this one!
I'm using a new G5 Quad with all the usual design applications... and Office 2004. The fonts work fine in InDesign/Illustrator/Acrobat/Photoshop/FCP, etc... except Office 2004. I use Font Book exclusively now - Suitcase X1 being the mess it is.
Everytime I launch either Word/Powerpoint/Excel I get an error message during the splash screen start up, namely: "... this font is corrupt and should be replaced...". I'm a designer and art editor and have a lot of fonts... simply hitting 'OK' at the message a countless number of times is not a viable option. So....
.... I tried to repair it by doing the following:
Firstly, I logged on as a 'new user' and at first attempt, Word opened fine.
This is what I did next:
    1. Assuming a font problem - while in 'new user', I copied all the fonts in both library folders onto an external FireWire HD.
    2. I then logged back into my (administrator) account to copy them to my library/fonts folders.
    3. Verified ALL fonts using FontBook. Everyone passed as OK.
    4. Deleted the font cache in Office preferences.
    5. Ran permissions and logged back into the 'new user' account.
    6. Did nothing but start up Word. This time I got the exact same error
message as on my administrator account ["... this font is corrupt..."].
Now, I'm stumped. I also tried Powerpoint and Excel... both came up with the same error message.
Does anyone have a solution for this frustrating problem, or has experienced similar and know of a work around? This problem is driving me nuts...!

  • I can see my Typekit Font on Preview but not in Edge

    Hello All
The typekit font works fine when I preview the website or publish the website onto the internet.
But inside edge animate where I am doing the building of the website, it just shows the fallback font, which is different enough to cause text to be out of place when viewing the creation in a browser.
I have been told that it is something to do with the settings on my computer. I am using a PC.
    Can anybody help?

    Hi, Will-
Do you have localhost (127.0.0.1) added to your Typekit's settings?  I'm surprised that it's working on preview if it's failing on the stage, as one of the likely culprits is often a firewall setup issue.
    Cheers,

  • Font There but Not

I have a particular font, visible in the Fonts folder (in Library). That font will not show up in FontBook or even Spotlight! AND, it won't appear in my font lists (such as in InDesign or Word, or anything)!
I've tried "validating file" within FontBook, but I'm now stuck...
    Help?
    Thanks!

    Hullo Aaron:
I'm no systems techie, so this might be a naive question:
But is your font actually installed to Font Book and the font panel?
To check this, if you haven't already, and since you know where the font is, just double click on its file. This brings up a Font Book linked panel, which will either tell you the font is installed, or offer you the option to install it.
It's not enough for a font to just be on your system, even in the right place.
It has to be "installed" for the system to see it. Generally system installation does this for the fonts it provides, but not for others, and a partial installation or archive reinstall can also leave provided fonts still needing this operation. Similarly some fonts you download do this for you, but if you transfer them to another system you have to do it for them.
Sorry if you've checked this already, but otherwise try it. It's harmless. The worst that can happen is that if you've got a second copy of a font installed from elsewhere, there'll be a duplicate to resolve.
    Good luck.

  • Font works in one Document but not the other

OK so we have been having trouble with this one font for a while now. For some strange reason it will download onto my bosses computer but it won't load onto mine. I have had some help to try to download it on my computer, which we thought was successful. We have one document that will open in InDesign correctly with out me needing to change the font so it will work. But I tried to create a new document with it today but it can't find it. I have tried to making paragraph styles for each one and then adding them to the library I use, but that did not work.
I am running a Mac with OS 10.8.3 and I am using CS6. Also this font file kept telling me there was serious problems with them when I try to install them into Font Book.

InDesign has a feature called Document Installed Fonts which allows a file to use fonts not installed on your system if they are contained in a folder named Document Fonts appearing in the same folder as the .indd file. That might explain why you can open an older file, but not use the font in a new file.
What is the name, and type, of the font?

  • Fonts that work in AppleWorks but not in Pages?  Possible to convert them?

I don't know enough about fonts to know why this would be the case; I have some fonts which are presently working in AppleWorks, but which are not listed in Font Book and do not show up in Pages.
Is there some way to convert the fonts so they will work? Some examples are all the free dingbat fonts at http://www.subgenius.com/SUBFONTS/subfont.html

I tried the Windows version, but that didn't work.
But, thanks! Font XChange was able to convert them, and they work in Pages now, although due to that being commercial software, the demo version altered them somehow. However in this case at least, since they're dingbats, that doesn't manifestly show.
For the small amount of font converting I might do, and the limited use I'd probably have for those fonts, I'm not sure about paying $100 for software that does that, even though it does appear to do its job really well. I wonder if there is cheaper, shareware, or freeware software that does the same?
What is it about these Fonts that necessitated the conversion?

  • Fonts showing up in Font Book, but not in other apps

This morning, while rummaging through Font Book for something new to use, I discovered that some of my (large) collection of fonts did not show up in various programs... meaning I never think of using them unless I'm actually rummaging through Font Book.
I got onto the Apple support forums and looked at why this might be. I discovered that some of my fonts, for various reasons, were only in the "User" folder, while some that were listed in "All Fonts" were NOT showing up in the User folder. Cleaning this up seemed like a good place to start. I quit Font Book and all other programs, went to /Library/Fonts and ~/Library/Fonts, and moved all the fonts in the User folder into the All folder, as suggested on some answers here. (In addition I changed my Font Book prefs so that new additions in the future will not go to the User folder, but to the main folder and be usable to all.)
    Then, also following answers here,
—I did a Safe Mode reboot
—rebooted again out of Safe Mode
—removed font cache files through Terminal
    —and finally checked Font Book.
The screen shot above shows that all fonts are under "All Fonts" now, instead of some showing up only under All and some, oddly, only under User, as it was before I started the cleanup. Nice and neat. There is no User folder anymore, and I assume that is because it has no contents—User gets what All gets. Seemed like everything worked.
So I opened one of the programs I use to take notes (Microsoft Entourage), just for a quick check...
... and discovered that some fonts which *have* always been usable, are now not showing up. (On the plus side, however, some of those fonts which had been hidden to me—ones that I discovered in my morning rummage—are showing up, so half of what I was aiming for is working.)
I read a few more support forum posts, and saw that some folks have success when they remove the fontbook .plist. So I did this as well, and checked everything again.
Font Book itself is still nice and neat, and appears to be complete, but Entourage and TextEdit, which I chose to be representatives of how this font cleanup is working in real programs, still do not show all my fonts. And stranger still, though most of their problems are the same, each of the programs also has different fonts which are or aren't showing up!! For instance: Aviano Slab, shown highlighted in the screenshot, isn't visible in either program, but Aviano Flare, right above it, is visible/usable in TextEdit but not visible/not usable in Entourage.
Now, to be clear, as far as I know all of my typefaces are currently showing up in Font Book, and about 95% of my fonts are visible in both Entourage and Text Edit, even though the 5% that's problematic is partially the same/ partially different in each. I hope I'm not going to have to open every single program I own to keep checking for variations—hopefully knowing that there *are* variations between programs will help someone to give me a suggestion.
If the 5% that don't work were the exact same, I was going to assume Mac voodoo. My lame workaround was going to be, to manually check my font folder against one program or the other, and copy every font that doesn't show up, back into the User folder. It would take quite a while, and there would be two copies, but at least the ones that are not visible to my programs would (hopefully?) be visible again.
But the ones that don't show up and therefore can't be used are not all the same. So this indicates worse voodoo, some sort of font management issue that I don't get, and it probably means I'd be at this check-and-copy thing forever with each and every program I use. Or, I could waste a lot of disk space, and copy all fonts to User. Ugh.
So I'm hoping that by laying out everything I *have* already tried this morning, someone will be able to spot a step I missed that will help me get Font Book to wrangle these darned typefaces better.
If Font Book *thinks* all fonts are now available to all users, how can I get my programs to agree—and get my programs also to "see" and let me use all of my fonts?
MacBook Pro, Mac OS X (10.7.5)
    Font Book version 3

    Okay!
So, should anyone else ever find themselves with this weird problem, here's what the rest of my day looked like—and yes, I did at last get the problems solved.
First I printed out a list of all my fonts (in the /Library/Fonts folder). Very long. Then I skimmed through the two programs standing in, hopefully, for every program, to try and see if something the problem fonts have in common would jump out at me.
One thing did: all of the "problem" fonts in TextEdit (the ones that didn't show up, in other words) were from a period when one of the type companies I use was automatically installing to a subfolder within the font folder (named with their company's name). Though TextEdit "sees" all the fonts in the Microsoft subfolder, apparently it can't handle other subfolders. So I removed all of these fonts from the company subfolder to the main /Fonts folder, and solved one problem. This problem, oddly, must have been there all along, but who uses a ton of fonts in TextEdit? So I didn't notice the problem until I was troubleshooting today, and thinking that was a nice neutral program to test things in.
But it did nothing for the problem in Entourage, which is where I began my day—even though *some* of Entourage's problem fonts were also in that subfolder, most were not, and the ones that were in that subfolder were still not made visible to Entourage by moving them out of it. So then I scrubbed the long, long list of fonts, looking for all the ones that were not visible in Entourage. Blech. That took a while.
When I got my complete list of missing fonts, I went back to Font Book and validated all of those fonts. I discovered that all but one, share one tiny problem: the "'name' table structure" error. (The final font did have a minor error in validation, but not that error.)
Now I didn't make a list early this morning, so I can't be sure that every one of these fonts was among the ones that started my attempt to clean up and make things right, but I'm assuming they are. I suppose it's possible that during the things I tried to fix the mess today, that one or two fonts actually started working on their own, but probably this list would be the same as one I could have made in the morning, back when I was young and innocent and thought I wouldn't need lists because it was all going to work with ease.
Before I got too excited, I then stopped and validated all the fonts I have. I wanted to make sure that this wasn't an error tons of fonts of mine have, in which case I had not located the problem. But in fact, only the typefaces I couldn't see in Entourage had this error. So I went back to the www to search for what to do about this error.
And in case anyone else needs to replicate my success, this is the site with the fix that worked for me on it:
    http://www.iwebss.com/tech/540-fixing-fonts-with-validation-errors-on-mac
Skip down to where it says "Quick Instructions." Download the program suggested there, and do *exactly* what it says under Quick Instructions and no more (and please, make a folder with copies of any otfs or ttfs you need to do this with before you try the fix, in case it doesn't work for you as it did for me and you need to back up to the old versions).
One note: in those instructions, he doesn't mention that after "Save As," the program may hang up and give you a nasty message about access—just go to the Finder and do a Force Quit, no need to report, open the program again, and carry on. You haven't harmed the font or the program, and it does save before hanging up, so you can just go on to the next font in your list. For some miraculous reason, doing this does repair the "'name' table structure" error (and the error that the one odd font had as well!), and when I reopened Font Book, Entourage, and just for good measure, TextEdit, all of the fonts which had been plaguing me were perfectly visible and absolutely functional.
Thank you, Kurt, for your good ideas here and elsewhere on these forums. You were of great help to me today even before your answered this question.   Though I was so deep in troubleshooting that I didn't get back to see your latest reply, I appreciate your taking the time to try to guess at this very odd hiccup.
Why this error bothers some programs and not others... why it's so easy to fix, with a simple program that you purposely use to make absolutely no changes... who knows. But check your subfolders first, and if that's not the problem, try validating fonts and see if the "'name' table structure" error is at the root of your problems. Perhaps this will work for others.

  • PDF Report with Korean font work fine in 9iDS but not in 9iAS

    Hi,
I am using Oracle 9i Application Server 9.0.2.0.0, When i try to run the report using Korean font The pdf report not showing the korean font correctly.
I tried the same in 9ids , which is working properly. I have done exactly the same setting in 9ias, but it is not working.
The Oracle ias report service dialog shows version 9.0.2.0.3
    My 9ias settings
    NLS_LANG = AMERICAN_AMERICA.KO16KSC5601
    In uifont.ali the settings are
    [ PDF ]
    .....ZHT16BIG5 = "MSungStd-Light-Acro"
    .....ZHS16CGB231280 = "STSongStd-Light-Acro"
    .....KO16KSC5601 ="HYSMyeongJoStd-Medium-Acro"
Installed the Korean font(HYSMyeongJoStd-Medium-Acro) from Adobe site
    the font file HYSMyeongJoStd-Medium-Acro exist in C:\Program Files\Adobe\Acrobat 5.0\Resource\CIDFont
also installed the asian Suit 2000(Union Way) on the ias server.
I have checked the Smoothing display option also in Acrobat 5. The Document font is showing
    Origial font = HYSMyeongJoStd-Medium-Acro type=type1 (CID) Encoding=KSC-EUC-H
    Actual font = HYSMyeongJoStd-Medium-Acro type=type1 (CID)
Anyone please let me know do i need to do any other changes or i need to apply any patch . Please reply, Thanks in advance
    with Regards
    Rohit.

    Hi Navneet,
    Thanks for the immediate reply.
As such there is no change in both the report servers , same output in win2000 and win2003. I am generating the rep from 9ids for both 9ids and 9ias, and i am using font UWKMJF which is korean charecter support, but 9ias is generating some junk charecters with spacing , 9ids is working fine.
The PDf Document font is showing
    Origial font = HYSMyeongJoStd-Medium-Acro type=type1 (CID) Encoding=KSC-EUC-H
    Actual font = HYSMyeongJoStd-Medium-Acro type=type1 (CID)
which is same as 9ids, but the data displaying in the pdf are not proper.
As you mentioned about the patch, which patch i have to apply. can you please also mention the patch numbers.
    Please help me.
    Thanks and Regards
    Rohit.

  • Font face="army" works in my editing program for IE but not firefox

font face="army" works fine in IE but not firefox when using my website editing program
    == This happened ==

If you check Firefox's Web Console (Ctrl+Shift+K) it'll tell you any errors it's finding and the line of code it's finding it on.
The problem it seems to be having up front is that IDs are case-sensitive - "layer02" is not the same as "Layer02", for example.
There may be further errors once it's past that, but all the current browsers come with the tools you need to weed out any further issues.

    Typical issue with Font Book.
Restart your Mac and immediately hold down the Shift key when you hear the startup chime to boot into Safe Mode. Keep holding the Shift key until you see a progress bar towards the bottom of the screen. You can let go of the Shift key at that point.
OS X asks you to log in (you will get this screen on a Safe Mode boot even if your Mac is set to automatically log in). Let the Mac finish booting to the desktop and then restart normally. This will clear Font Book's database and the cache files of the user account you logged into in Safe Mode.

  • My Trade Gothic LT STD font doesn't convert to PDF. Other fonts convert but not this one.

This is issue came up when i upgraded to quickbooks 2012 from 2009. I always converted invoices to PDF without problem. But now my data fields using a font that i purhcased won't appear in PDF format. i can change the font of the data fields to Times New Roman and it will appear, but not with Trade Gothic LT STD. The font apperas in the font properties of the PDF file and it says it is embedded subset. This font works in all other windows and microsoft programs and even appears in the print preview. But it dissappears once i convert to PDF.

understand that this may not be the right forum. I've tried many other avenues seeking an answer so i figured i should try this one. I'm using Quickbooks to create invoices. The font shows up in Quickbooks in the print preview but once converted to PDF, the font dissapears. This problem began when i upgraded from 2009 to the 2012 version. The old version used Quickbooks PDF converter for the conversion; the new version uses Microsoft XPS document writer for the conversion (as i understand). I can change the font in quickbooks to TIMES NEW ROMAN, and it will appear. So i think its something with the converter or the font itself. Already tried quickbooks PDF utility, removing/reinstalling XPS writer, some other Intuit suggestions but nothing. I attemted to delete the font and reinstall but it wouldn't let me delete. Desperate for a resolution.

  • I want every email I send through gmail to be written in Verdana font, but NOT to view all pages in that font.

Every time myself or my colleague sends an email through our google apps account we have to change the font to verdana. we can't seem to find ANY way (neither in the gmail settings nor in the firefox settings) to change it so that all of our outgoing messages are written in Verdana.
I went to firefox preferences and found the font settings and changed them all to verdana and UN-checked "allow pages to select their own fonts", however, then ALL fonts were changed to verdana, including our signature at the bottom of each email (which we don't want in verdana) and also all of the gmail pages appear in verdana as well. We just want our outgoing messages (except fro the signature at the bottom) to be in Verdana, and I can't figure out how to do it.
Also, when in the Firefox Preferences / Content / Fonts & Colors, I'm not really sure what each part means. For example, what does "default font" refer to??? Visualization of web pages will be in that font? or writing that I myself do? Also, then once entering into Advanced, I'm not sure what each scroll-down menu refers to: Proportional, Serif, Sans-serif, and Monospace?? Which one of those should I make Verdana? And, what should the rest be if I just want to "normal" (default?) settings.
Please help. Thank you very much.

    >>So I guess even the computer geniuses cant work out
    my problem
Guess as you wish but you are wrong. Centering a site is
    reasonably
simple... if you are willing to deal with code. There is no
    "Center Site"
button. Design view is OK but extremely limited. If you are
    willing to
settle for those limitations, and obviously you are not, you
    will be fine.
Clearly this approach is not acceptable so you have to move
    to the next
level -> An understanding of HTML & CSS and most
    importantly, how they
interact. I could give you the code but your next question
    would be, "Where
    do I put it?".
    >>I thought you guys would be up for a challenge.
    We are. Are you?
    >>Or will I have to start from scratch again?
That is the only way but only if you can figure out how your
    code got so
badly mangled. Otherwise, you are likely to arrive at the
    same result.
Please trust me when I say if you had build that entire page
    from DW's
design view and never touched the code it is impossible for
    the page code to
be what it is. If the page was actually build in DW design
    view someone
subsequently took a hatchet to the code DW produces.

  • Why do fonts appear in Keynote, but not in Font Folder?

I made a misguided move in adding fonts through Font Book and am trying to restore my fonts to a previous iteration.  Strangely though, the fonts appear in Keynote, but not in the usual Fonts folders.  Can anyone shed light on why this might be the case?  More information can be found, under the Mavericks discussion forum, here.

    Suzanne,
As is my guess, there is now something wrong with those fonts. There are utilities, that can possibly repair them - two mentioned in the article. If you have a backup of the fonts, from when they worked, perhaps just going to that, and reinstalling them will solve the issue. I'd hate to think that they might have to be acquired all over again, but that might be "plan D."
Periodically, I will copy all of my fonts to DVD (now - used to be CD), just to have them available for new computers, or OS's. Over the decades, I have lost a few to corruption, that could not be repaired. In several cases, I had an older BU, that did work, but have had to buy a few again. Just checked on my workstation, and I've got 19,362, though seldom more than about 350 ever installed at one time.
This reminds me that it's about time to do another BU, as I will be getting a new workstation and laptop fairly soon, and will need to transfer my fonts to them.
Good luck, and hope that things can be saved - I hate to loose a favorite font.

Anyone have an issue where a font shows in the font list in Photoshop/Illustrator but not in Flash?

I'm using Adobe CS6 Flash, Photoshop and Illustrator on MAC OSX

Yes. It's rare, but some fonts do not play well with Flash. Flash seems to have a more strict method of evaluating a font that can be imported. This is, in my opinion, probably because Flash needs to create a faux version of a font when it is imported. There may be some information that is either missing or not acceptable to Flash in a particular font and so Flash won't allow it to be used - even if you're not going to import that font.
