Fonts (Libraries)recognized problem

Wow is it me or has this place change bigtime since my last visit? lol
I use Suitcase fusion for my fonts management fyi
Okay I have divided up my library of fonts into 5 different libraries (an easier locating method for me)
But when I open PsCS5 it only recognizes one library in Suitcase (the default one.)
I know in illustrator I can pick the library I want to call up,I'm surprised Ps doesn't do that. Or am I missing something? any tips on that guys? Any help would be appreciated.
OSX 10.6.6

The ability to open up Suitcase libraries in Illustrator comes from an extensis plug in. Screenshot below is from another extensis product that is the server verison of Suitcase.
Photoshop does not have that capability, but you can try the Extensis forum, for a second opinion as there may be a script to plug in someone has developed. Is switching your libararies wihtin suitcase, not working well for you?

  • Font Book validation problem when adding fonts

I installed 10.6.2 last night and then turned the machine off as normal.
This morning I start up and every action is followed by 10-30 seconds of spinning beachball action.
The only process using up more than about 2% was fontworker which I've since found out is the startup font building/analysing/caching part of Font Book.
I've read the suggestions on here about removing font caches, removing font libraries, etc. and have tried them all.
The only way I've managed to get the system back up to 100% is to remove all fonts from my libraries (1500+ fonts) and run with just the system fonts installed.
The problem I now have is that every time I try to add a font, the Font Book validation progress bar comes up, stays there for a minute or so per font and then says there's a serious error and it can't be validated and must not be used.
I've tried it on lots of different fonts from lots of different sources (Adobe, Monotype, Microsoft, T22, Linotype, even some I've done myself with Fontographer/Fontlab) and the symptoms are identical.
    Any help happily received.

Normally that would work, however I've already tried that - and to the other 2 font folders just in case - and I get no more fonts listed in my menus than I already had.
Just for clarification I've tried them in:
    - Home/Library/Fonts (i.e. my user account folder)
    - /Library/Fonts (at top level)
    - /System/Library/Fonts (at top level)
I've tried restarting with them in one folder at a time, then tried it again with them in all 3 folders.
I should have followed the rule "If it ain't broke, don't try to fix it." as 10.6 and 10.6.1 were working fine, as was 10.5.

  • PostScript Fonts not recognized in OSX 10.4.3

I recently installed FontExplorer X and noticed that all Postscript fonts are not recognized, not even by Fontbook. I had the same problem on a PC when ATM wasn't installed but OS X should recognize them.
Before this happen, I was also trying to delete the Adobe Illustrator tryout because when you try to install the full version it won't install unless its gone. I had to delete files from several places and I wonder if that had anything to do with this.
One question is, does OS X come preinstalled with ATM (Adobe Type Manager) or does the OS just recognize it natively. I thought maybe I deleted ATM in one of the Adobe folders.
Something else I noticed is the System Postscript fonts are recognized. So its just the ones I have installed on the system.
Thanks in advance for your help.
    12" Powerbook   Mac OS X (10.4.3)

Sorry, cgriff44. I didn't address some of the questions in your original post. I'll be more specific this time.
I think the problem is a bit deeper than that. OS X isn't recognizing Postscript fonts period. ... I have over 13,000 fonts and not one postscript font works (except the system postscript fonts).
As noted in your first post, you may indeed have thrown something out OS X needs to handle PostScript fonts. It's hard for me to say, of course, since I didn't see what you tossed. But there's a bit of confusion in your statement about the system fonts. If you mean the ones in the OS X /System/Fonts/ folder, then those aren't PostScript fonts at all. They're almost all .dfonts (a TrueType variation). As are all of the fonts in the /Library/Fonts/ folder. If you have OS 9 (Classic) installed, all of the ones installed by default are also TrueType. Albeit, the older Classic variation.
One question is, does OS X come preinstalled with ATM (Adobe Type Manager) or does the OS just recognize it natively.
OS X handles PostScript fonts natively, there is no need for ATM in OS X. Nor does it exist for OS X. However, if you work with PostScript fonts in Classic apps, you do need to install the OS 9 version of ATM.
Since you have so many fonts, I can probably assume you're well aware that the suitcase of screen fonts and printer fonts must be together in the same folder in order for a given PostScript font to work. That they don't seems to point to a fault with the OS. You may have to resort to reinstalling OS X to fix it. If you do, make sure to use the Archive and Install method. Also making sure to turn on the check boxes to preserve your user settings and preferences.

  • Missing Font Libraries in Font Book after upgrading to Snow Leopard

I upgraded from 10.5.8 to 10.6.1 - and now I seem to be missing my Font Libraries (that I created myself) in Font Book.
    Does anyone have any advice?
    Thank you.

The general approach at this time is to ask if you've checked for any problematic fonts (all languages) with Apple's Font Book (look in the Applications folder). Find and remove all duplicates also.
SL may have taken the initiative and quarantined what it determined were borked fonts and put them aside to avoid calamity.
Also, don't hesisate to perform wholesale deletion of old and/or little used fonts - be skeptical of anything that has come from Office 2008, including those related to an Equation Editor installation.
That said, rumor has it that the next update will correct some spurious font handling....best to wait if housecleaning doesn't help at this time.

  • Individual fonts not recognized properly when opening a MAC FLA file on PC

I'm getting a missing font warning when opening an FLA file
even though I have all the necessary fonts. The problem is that
    while I have MyriadPro-Bold, MyriadPro-BoldIt, MyriadPro-Semibold
on my machine, they only show up in Flash as the Typeface names of
Myriad Pro (first two), and Myriad Pro Light (last one).
I don't want to have to go through an entire file and apply
bold and italics to anywhere they exist, so I'm hoping there is a
way to map these properly. Adobe Type Manager shows all these fonts
properly when I open it, so I don't understand why Adobe's version
of Flash can only see the font family and not the individual fonts.
Hopefully someone out there has had the same problem and can
    help me figure this out.

I know this thread is a bit old, but I wanted to share my experience and solution in case anyone else runs into this.
The other day, I spent many hours editing some photos for a client. I saved them all and closed Photoshop. When I tried to open the .PSDs, they all came up with this "Not a valid Photoshop document" error. I was freaking out. I could see the thunmbnails and previews with the MacOS Finder and could see the images just fine in Lightroom, but couldn't open them in Photoshop CC.
Finally, I remembered that these were NOT supposed to be .psd files! They were supposed to be TIFFs. What happened was, when I edited them from within Lightroom into Photoshop, they opened as TIFFs. However, when I did "save as", I wanted to name them similarly to some other files I had. I clicked on one of the existing files to copy the file name in the Save As dialog to make it easier to name the new file I was saving, but I didn't realize it was changing the file extention from ".tif" to ".psd" as well. The older MacOS (version 9 and earlier) didn't rely on file extensions fo identifying file types, so it didn't hit me right away that this would be the problem. When I changed the incorrect .psd file extension to .tiff, the files opened in Photoshop just fine.
SO... if you run into this "Not a valid Photoshop document" error, try figuring out if it's actually another file type (.jpg, .tif, .png, etc) by either getting the file info from another program or just experimenting with different file extensions. Chances are good that your file isn't actually corrupt, but just named improperly!

  • Font not recognized in LightRoom

    Hello all--
I have loaded a font onto my OS and although Word (etc) recognizes the font, LightRoom does not. Has anyone else come across this issue? Help!
    Thanks!

Not all fonts are recognized by Lightroom.  Try a different font.

  • Loading font libraries dynamically; having some problems.

I am using SWF font library classes (done with FlashDevelop) to be able to have dynamically embedded fonts in an application. All text/graphic components are drawing styles from a plain (non-swf) CSS file, which supplies all the text/label components with a generic font name, to which the dynamic font is imported.
    Example: User is using Arial.
App imports ArialFont.swf which has embedded:
    - Arial Regular
    - Arial Bold
    - Arial Regular with embedAsCFF=false
and maps them to an internal generic font name:
    - MyFont (regular)
    - MyFont (bold)
    - MyFontCFF (embedAsCFF=false)
This is working perfectly, for the dynamically generated components.
However, the s:Label components that are laid out with MXML in the application are loading before the fonts are properly loaded and embedded, and they are displaying with Times New Roman (system default), even though the embedded fonts are now loaded and ready.
Is there a way for me to force these static s:Label components to update their view to include the newly embedded fonts?
    Thanks,
    -J

    See the embedded font post on my blog to make sure everything is set up correctly.  However, you might just need a call to the undocumented styleManager[“styleDeclarationsChanged”]();

  • Old fonts not recognized under Leopard

I have a number of old T1 and Mac TrueType fonts that aren't recognized under Leopard. They worked fine under OS X through 10.4, but now are either showing up as type "Unix Executable File" with a generic black executable icon, or as a plain white icon with the type "Document". The files sizes appear to be correct, i.e. the issue is not zero length files. Since the OS doesn't present these files as fonts, font editors don't recognize the files as something they can open, either.
Anyone else running into this problem? Anyone have any suggestions?
    Thank you.

I've seen that thread, and in the end it seems to boil down to being careful when transferring files over a network. That didn't happen to my files, they never moved, and they worked under 10.4 and don't under 10.5.
I have noticed something new, though: the fonts that don't work show a greater-than-zero size in the Finder, but a zero file size when listed under the Terminal, i.e. the command line utility 'ls' shows these files as having a zero length, but the Finder shows the correct size.
So, it looks like a resource-fork-related issue, but it's not a case of a missing resource fork. The Finder sees the correct file size, but no longer recognizes or identifies the files correctly. Weird.
    Any suggestions?

  • ICal Print List Hang / Font Issue / Sync Problems...

Okay, here's a couple issues all wrapped up into one thread/post - reason is cause I suspect they may all be tied together somehow, but am not sure.
    Sync Problems...
Regarding the Syncing problems, you can find an ongoing thread about @ http://forums.markspace.com/viewtopic.php?t=1632
In short, some of us are having issues with events syncing to our Palm to the wrong timezone, causing them to be an hour off (usually within the new & old DST date change). Yes, all the usual fixes have been tried - pls read the thread noting "adairnet" and ymatto" postings.
Also, in addition to this time issue, I have iCal events that I've deleted in iCal still show up on the Palm after one-way syncing!
    Print List Hang...
Every week I print a "list" of events from a certain calendar. The past couple weeks I noticed some lines in the notes field printing on top of each other. Twas odd indeed, but I hadn't had the time to look into the reason. Then this week I was going thru my usual printing proceedure and now iCal locks up, hangs up, crashes, forcing me to force-quit the program. It's usually after I extend the dates beyond 2 or 3 days, but I've not been able to find a consistency. I've redone events thinking they were corrupt with no success.
    Font Problems...
After the Print List issue above, I opened my Console program to see if it was reporting anything. At first it indicated that it could not find Helvetica Neue and would substitute it for Helvetica. This put me in touch with some font corruption - so I got rid of those bad fonts and activated Helvetica Neue which got rid of that message. But made me wonder if there are more font problems causing the print hanging & syncing problems. I have FontAgent Pro and do have some font issues that I'm trying to work out.
But the Console is displaying another string of messages every time the Print List proceedure hangs up which I cannot figure out...
2007-04-24 16:24:54.151 iCal[28975] NSATSGlyphStorage inconsistency. Cannot find run storage for character range {138 67} for CTRun 0xDBE87D0. Ignoring the run...

So, all of this is causing me to wonder if the iCal or SyncServices database is corrupt. Is there a way to dig into the iCal db and check for corruption &/or fix it?
Or does anybody have any further suggestions on any of these issues?
    thanx.jason.

    RedKamel,
The SyncServices folder should be avoided like "a swarm of bees". This article discusses some of the issues that can arise when the SyncServices folder is deleted or modified:
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=301920
Data loss and Data corruption can result from deleting or modifying the SyncServices folder, and that data loss or corruption can be propogated to devices, .Mac, and other applications that sync with SyncServices.
If you have isolated an issue with the other steps in your post, I would recomend speaking with AppleCare before removing that folder.
    Hope this helps,
    Nathan C.

If the iPod is not getting a charge through the cable (and the battery is depleted), it may not be recognized because the iPod has no power to do anything.
I would say the problem is either a faulty dock connector on the iPod, a faulty cable, or a faulty USB port on the computer. You have probably tested the USB port possibility already by trying a different port (or trying another USB device on the same port), so I would try a different USB docking cable as the next test.

  • I tried validating my fonts and there are a whole bunch of fonts that have problems. How do I fix these problems?

I was reading this article and it said that you should validate your fonts occasionally. I did and a whole bunch fonts came up with problems. How do I fix these problems?

At the top of the window where your fonts appear after the validation run, there's a drop-down (defaulted to 'all')
Select warnings and errors from that list and the resultant list in the main window should tell you what the problem is. The most common is duplicated fonts.
You can use 'resolve duplicates' in Font book, but it can be a bit hit and miss which ones it deactivates.

  • PDF font/typeface display problem

Hello. The company I work for was hired as a contractor to create an online training program. We created it in Word and sent the .docx files to the client to put up on their system. They converted the files into PDFs and uploaded them.
The problem is the PDFs they created from the Word docs are barely readable. We used Times New Roman but obviously something went wrong during the conversion process.
What is causing this problem and is there anything that can be done to fix it? Thank you in advance for any help.

    Hi Chin
    * Ensure that the font you used to develop the report exists on the Server system.

  • InDesign CS6 OSX linked fonts not recognized

I am using InDesign CS6 on Mountain Lion and I received a document from a PC InDesign user with a linked AI image and document fonts folder included. When I launch the idd file the fonts are "missing".
OSX does not seem to recognize the font files in the document fonts folder as proper font files. In Finder they appear as Unix executable files..
I've tried disk repair/permissions repair, but neither seems to fix the problem.
    Any ideas? Thanks!

Sounds like thy may be Windows Type 1 postscript fonts, in which case you would need to install them (both halves) into ID's private fonts folder.

  • Fonts not recognized after restore...

Earlier today I had to replace the hard drive in my Mac, and then restored all my files/apps from an external hard drive with Time Machine. The problem I have is that none of my previous fonts are found by any of my applications. When I open Font Book, all my fonts are there...but for example, when I opened Word or Photoshop, no fonts appear in the drop down menus besides the default system fonts.
I double-checked the user>library>fonts folder, and all my fonts are there. What could be causing this???

    Cricket311 wrote:
The hard drive going bad happened very suddenly with no rhyme or reason. It was working perfectly fine one day, and the next day it wouldn't boot up. I brought it into the Apple store and had their Genius Bar take a look and they weren't able to repair the hard drive.
If your last backup was late the day before, it's possible something got corrupted.
Do you get the fonts into those menus by some sort of selection process? If so, you might want to look for their preference files. Look at a backup from earlier in the day, or even a day or two before the failure.
Most likely, there will be a file (or files) in +*<your home folder>/Library/Preferences,+* and/or +*<your home folder>/Library/Application Support+* containing the name of the app, or perhaps the name of the maker, and ending in .plist.
It's also possible they'll be not in your home folder, but the top-level Library/Preferences and/or +*Library/Application Support+* folders.
You might want to start with a Finder window, in List mode, of your home folder, then +Enter Time Machine+ and navigate to the folders in question. When you find something that looks promising, right-click it and take the +Quick Look+ option. If it has something that looks like a list of fonts, that may be the culprit. To restore it, click the Restore button at the bottom right.

  • .docx file received from a Windows user isn't displaying scientific writing in Word 2011 in OS X 10.6.8 - font or plugin problem?

I've tried searching everywhere and found similar issues, but nothing exactly this. I'm trying to format a document which was created in a Windows version of Word (unsure which year). However, the document has some scientific writing and minor equations (I assume), and they're just displaying as blank boxes, as if the font isn't installed. It says they should be in Cambria Math.
In Word 2011, Cambria and Calibri aren't displaying as installed fonts and they're listed as "heading fonts" separately in the drop-down, although they do show as all good in FontBook, and when I change to that font in the document, it does change to look like it's Cambria/Calibri. Highlighting and changing the font just changes it to code (ie: "PriBC", or "Cij", not a symbol) but it still says that it's "Cambria Math" after the change.
After some research I tried installing a trial of MathType in case that helped them display. When I highlight the symbols in Word, the MathType plugin pops up to deal with it, but I still can't get it to change to equations - either they disappear completely if I click to convert it to professional display, or they turn into codes like the one mentioned above under letter display. Admittedly, I don't have experience with this, so I'm wondering if there's something I should be requesting of the other person, some extra bundle of information to save in with the Word file?
There has also been one pop-up once that said that I didn't have Cambria installed on my system, which doesn't seem right, either.
On the plus side, my font collection is tidier than it's ever been. But on the downside, I still can't figure this out! Either, do you have suggestions how I can fix it from my end, or what details or steps I should specifically ask of the other person? (They're not particularly computer-literate, which is part of the problem.)
    Thanks in advance.

Update: I upgraded to Mavericks today (10.9.1) and since then, problem solved! Don't know why that was the magic fix, but it was.
