Fonts load up every other start up

After installing os x jaguar, my fonts don't load up all the time. Every other time I start up computer only 77 of my 450 fonts load. Every morning I have to start up, shut down and start up again to get all fonts to load. Any Ideas?

Font has disappeared, despite loading on every other program

I've been working with one font on several different documents including indesign, and all of a sudden it was replaced by Times New Roman all throughout my indesign document that I have been working on for months. The font is still working in illustrator though. I'm using CS3. Help??

Did you upgrade your system recently? (OS or hardware).
Is the font Opentype? T1, TT?
Do you have a backup of the font in its original format (a zip file or disk)?
If so, try to: Deactiveate the font in fontbook, move those font files to the trash, restart your system and re-add a fresh version of the font into font book (from original disk, or expanded archive, etc.) although it sounds like you've possibly tried that at some point, it's not in your list above. I think "making sure it's in font book and verified" doesn't mean that some part of the font isn't still broken enough to trip up software using it. Also something might have happened to your CS3. Do you have install disks to reinstall?
Lastly, if you have many many fonts and not much memory on your system, try turning off all fonts you aren't using for this project (except the fonts that the system needs and won't let you deactivate). This might help if you have tons of fonts on a system with very little memory.

(Firefox is so extremely slow, it's unbelievable (google needs about 1 minute to load). Every other browser works perfectly fine. How is that possible

I love Firefox and I still want to use it but my love doesn't go as far as waiting one minute for every page to load.
I deactivated every Plug in. I tried with the other versions Firefox offers (moon something).
I uninstalled several times and installed it again.

uninstall the proxytube addon and set firefox to "use no proxy" under options > advanced > network > connection - settings... in order to get back to the normal browsing speed

Message app not loading but every other bridge app works fine

i have a Torch 9800 (up to date) and a Playbook (up to date). All my bridge apps work except for messages, which is probably the most important app. When i launch the messages app it just showing the loading circle hour glass thing and never actually displays my messages. New emails come in and i can open them but none of my previous emails appear and the loading circle hour glass thing keeps going. I've tried reinstalling bridge and i've tried pairing the device again over bluetooth, any other ideas? I know i could just factory reset the playbook but i'll loose all my data.

Font loading when starting Acrobat - Acrobat hangs

I have the problem of a kind of "hang-up" of Acrobat 9 when opening a file. Actually this problem started with Acrobat 6 or 5 I think and I have not found a solution or a reason why. Also I did stopped searching for solutions some time ago and tried to live with this feature of Acrobat.

I investigated some time in verifying that the font loading is causing my problem.
This is what happens:
- Acrobat is not running. I open a PDF file. Acrobat starts, the file is opening after a few seconds, fast enough. After 10 seconds or so the application hangs and does not react. A second tab is opening and when you look into the task manager you see that csrss.exe is running with 50% CPU usage on top of Acrobat with the remaining 50%. After - it seems a long time, like leaning back and having a cup of coffee - the system comes back an one can work with the PDF file just like normal.
- When you just close the file and not Acrobat as such and open a new file, the hang-up does not occur.
- Only when you close Acrobat and open a new file it happens again.
My work-around after knowing this - after a few years of searching - is to to start Acrobat on booting the PC by putting the application into autostart and never close it during the day.
I can not uninstall fonts. I need them all.
Now the question: Is there anything new on this subject? Is there a way to disable font loading when starting Acrobat?
I have tried some of the speed-up tools, that disable some plug-ins. They do not help.
Thanks for some feedback and may be a better solution than mine.
(If only Acrobat would load the fonts first, tell me it is loading the fonts and how long this takes, and then open the file I need to read - this would be nice ... )

I use XP Pro and have the same problem on other computers with XP Pro.
For the fun of it I un-installed Acrobat 9 and re-installed and - surprise surprise. No hang-up. Just perfect.
I started and closed Acrobat several times and every time I think the hang-up, that used to be a minute and more before re-installing - is a little longer. At least it feels like.
I remember I had the same observation when I upgraded to Acrobat 9. But a few days later the hang-up was there again.
I will observe ... and keep you updated.
I am using type 1 and true type fonts and Adobe Type manager to manage ma many fonts.
On page display I have "use local fonts" checked. I don't see a difference, when I un-check.
Ideas to solve the issue are aprreciated

every other day, my mac won't start up. my keyboard would light up and i hear the system start but nothing is appearing in the screen. i would have to press the start button until the screen actually shows up.. why does it do that?

Have you just tried repairing with Disk Utility?
Repair the Hard Drive and Permissions - Lion/Mountain Lion
Boot to the Recovery HD:
Restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the COMMAND and R keys until the menu screen appears. Alternatively, restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the OPTION key until the boot manager screen appears. Select the Recovery HD and click on the downward pointing arrow button.
Repair
When the recovery menu appears select Disk Utility. After DU loads select your hard drive entry (mfgr.'s ID and drive size) from the the left side list. In the DU status area you will see an entry for the S.M.A.R.T. status of the hard drive. If it does not say "Verified" then the hard drive is failing or failed. (SMART status is not reported on external Firewire or USB drives.) If the drive is "Verified" then select your OS X volume from the list on the left (sub-entry below the drive entry,) click on the First Aid tab, then click on the Repair Disk button. If DU reports any errors that have been fixed, then re-run Repair Disk until no errors are reported. If no errors are reported then click on the Repair Permissions button. When the process is completed, then quit DU and return to the main menu. Select Restart from the Apple menu.

Touchpad Cannot Start Code 10 Every Other boot

Model: 3000 N100 768 A49
Symptoms: The touchpad device is unable to start code 10. Every other boot when runnign Windows 7 Beta and RC
Other associated symptom when this occurs is that the display resolution gets set to 640*480. Only resolution is to reboot.
This happens on a CLEAN INSTALL of both Beta and RC.
The mouse works perfectly thorough the installation process and initial boot.

On futher inspection I find that most drivers fail to load when this happens and there is a kernel-pnp warning in the logs for every driver that fails to load. I believe that it may be caused by an IRQ/APIC problem. If this is the case we may need a bios upgrade to support windows 7 on the N100. Which i dont think will happen considering lenovo has no vested interest in supporting consumer grade notebooks.
Is there anyone at lenovo I can contact to try and help resolve this? I have not received a single reply.
This problem is not common at all. I have only found one other similar thread and the notebook was an hp notebook.
Again the weird thing is that it happens every other boot.
When the computer is off i turn it on and drivers fail to load. Then i turn it off then back on and everything works fine.
However this does not happen with Vista.
If anyone is interested I can post the logs.

I am desperate to get access to my itunes to get music on my phone and all of this just makes me want me to sell my iphone since there is no other way to add music to my phone. Mini Only Starts Up Every Other Attempt

This is a mid 2007 Mini 2,1. It has been fine up until a few days ago. I was away and left it unplugged. When I returned, I plugged it in and started it. It went to a blank grey screen and sat. I pressed the power button again, and it immediately turned off. Pressed it again, and it started successfully.
Now, the same pattern repeats consistently. It starts up properly every other time I try it, and sits with a grey screen on the alternate attempts.
I cannot recall doing any recent updates, pref changes, etc. Does anyone have any suggestions on how to fix this?

Reset the SMC and PRAM. Sometimes they get scrambled and need to be reset:
SMC:
Shut down the computer.
Unplug the computer's power cord.
Wait fifteen seconds.
Attach the computer's power cord.
Wait five seconds, then press the power button to turn on the computer.
PRAM:
Shut down the computer.
Locate the following keys on the keyboard: Command, Option, P, and R. You will need to hold these keys down simultaneously in step 4.
Turn on the computer.
Press and hold the Command-Option-P-R keys. You must press this key combination before the gray screen appears.
Hold the keys down until the computer restarts and you hear the startup sound for the second time.
Release the keys.

Every other time I open a new window or start firefox I get 2 windows in one & nothing happens.

Every other time that I start up Firefox I get 2 windows in one, and nothing happens. Also, whenever I open a new window in Firefox every other window comes up as 2 in one and nothing happens.

Looping through text files loads all 2014 files correctly, but 2013 files only loads every other row

Hello all. I am once again stumped and would very much appreciate any help.
I have a folder with many text files such as this...
A 2013-03-31.txt
A 2013-06-30.txt
A 2013-09-30.txt
A 2013-12-31.txt
A 2014-03-31.txt
A 2014-06-30.txt
A 2014-09-30.txt
B 2013-03-31.txt
B 2013-06-30.txt
B 2013-09-30.txt
B 2013-12-31.txt
B 2014-03-31.txt
B 2014-06-30.txt
B 2014-09-30.txt
…and so on…
and I'm loading all of the files beginning with A to an existing table in SQL Server. I'm loading the data as is to a staging table, no data type conversions, and I add only two derived columns. I have a loop to accomplish this, and it's working perfectly
except for one detail. All of the files in 2013 load every other row. All of the 2014 files load all rows as intended.
Any idea what would cause this? All files are being loaded using the same loop, same variables, same everything. My enumerator on the for each loop is Foreach File. The DataRowsToSkip property on the flat file connection manager is 0. I'm not sure where
to look next. I need all rows in all files to be loaded.
Forgot to mention that there is a difference between the 2013 and 2014 files. The 2014 files have 8 additional columns. I suspect this is causing my issue, just not sure what to do about it.

In SSIS 2012 and above these additional columns would not cause a failure, but looks like lead to you having impartial loads.
I suggest you create two loops, one for one metadata - files from 2014 and another for 2013 ones.

You can use one of these to start Firefox in <u>Safe mode</u>:

Another possible cause is security software (firewall,anti-virus) that blocks or restricts Firefox or the plugin-container process without informing you, possibly after detecting changes (update) to the Firefox program.
Remove all rules for Firefox and the plugin-container from the permissions list in the firewall and let your firewall ask again for permission to get full unrestricted access to internet for Firefox and the plugin-container process and the updater process.

1. This procedure is a diagnostic test. It changes nothing, for better or worse, and therefore will not, in itself, solve the problem. But with the aid of the test results, the solution may take a few minutes, instead of hours or days.
Don't be put off merely by the seeming complexity of these instructions. The process is much less complicated than the description. You do harder tasks with the computer all the time.

7. Launch the built-in Terminal application in any of the following ways:
Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Terminal in the icon grid.
Click anywhere in the Terminal window and paste by pressing command-V. The text you pasted should vanish immediately. If it doesn't, press the return key.
8. If you see an error message in the Terminal window such as "syntax error," enter
exec bash
and press return. Then paste the script again.
9. If you're logged in as an administrator, you'll be prompted for your login password. Nothing will be displayed when you type it. You will not see the usual dots in place of typed characters. Make sure caps lock is off. Type carefully and then press return. You may get a one-time warning to be careful. If you make three failed attempts to enter the password, the test will run anyway, but it will produce less information. In most cases, the difference is not important. If you don't know the password, or if you prefer not to enter it, press the key combination control-C or just press return three times at the password prompt. Again, the script will still run.
If you're not logged in as an administrator, you won't be prompted for a password. The test will still run. It just won't do anything that requires administrator privileges.
10. The test may take a few minutes to run, depending on how many files you have and the speed of the computer. A computer that's abnormally slow may take longer to run the test. While it's running, there will be nothing in the Terminal window and no indication of progress. Wait for the line
[Process completed]
to appear. If you don't see it within half an hour or so, the test probably won't complete in a reasonable time. In that case, close the Terminal window and report the results. No harm will be done.
11. When the test is complete, quit Terminal. The results will have been copied to the Clipboard automatically. They are not shown in the Terminal window. Please don't copy anything from there. All you have to do is start a reply to this comment and then paste by pressing command-V again.
At the top of the results, there will be a line that begins with the words "Start Time." If you don't see that, but instead see a mass of gibberish, you didn't wait for the "Process completed" message to appear in the Terminal window. Please wait for it and try again.
If any private information, such as your name or email address, appears in the results, anonymize it before posting. Usually that won't be necessary.
12. When you post the results, you might see the message, "You have included content in your post that is not permitted." It means that the forum software has misidentified something in the post as a violation of the rules. If that happens, please post the test results on Pastebin, then post a link here to the page you created.

I get the "Fast Browser Plugin not loaded" message every time I run Safari and I can't find an MTWB folder anywhere on my hard drive? This doesn't seem to be causing a problem, but is a puzzle?

1. This procedure is a diagnostic test. It changes nothing, for better or worse, and therefore will not, in itself, solve the problem.
2. If you don't already have a current backup, back up all data before doing anything else. The backup is necessary on general principle, not because of anything in the test procedure. There are ways to back up a computer that isn't fully functional. Ask if you need guidance.
3. Below are instructions to run a UNIX shell script, a type of program. All it does is to collect information about the state of the computer. That information goes nowhere unless you choose to share it. However, you should be cautious about running any kind of program (not just a shell script) at the request of a stranger on a public message board. If you have doubts, search this site for other discussions in which this procedure has been followed without any report of ill effects. If you can't satisfy yourself that the instructions are safe, don't follow them. Ask for other options.
Here's a summary of what you need to do, if you choose to proceed: Copy a line of text from this web page into the window of another application. Wait for the script to run. It usually takes a few minutes. Then paste the results, which will have been copied automatically, back into a reply on this page. The sequence is: copy, paste, wait, paste again. Details follow.
4. You may have started the computer in "safe" mode. Preferably, these steps should be taken in “normal” mode. If the system is now in safe mode and works well enough in normal mode to run the test, restart as usual. If you can only test in safe mode, do that.
5. If you have more than one user, and the one affected by the problem is not an administrator, then please run the test twice: once while logged in as the affected user, and once as an administrator. The results may be different. The user that is created automatically on a new computer when you start it for the first time is an administrator. If you can't log in as an administrator, test as the affected user. Most personal Macs have only one user, and in that case this section doesn’t apply. Don't log in as root.
6. The script is a single long line, all of which must be selected. You can accomplish this easily by triple-clicking anywhere in the line. The whole line will highlight, though you may not see all of it in the browser window, and you can then copy it. If you try to select the line by dragging across the part you can see, you won't get all of it.

If you're not logged in as an administrator, you won't be prompted for a password. The test will still run. It just won't do anything that requires administrator privileges.
10. The test may take a few minutes to run, depending on how many files you have and the speed of the computer. A computer that's abnormally slow may take longer to run the test. While it's running, there will be nothing in the Terminal window and no indication of progress. Wait for the line
[Process completed]
to appear. If you don't see it within half an hour or so, the test probably won't complete in a reasonable time. In that case, close the Terminal window and report the results. No harm will be done.
11. When the test is complete, quit Terminal. The results will have been copied to the Clipboard automatically. They are not shown in the Terminal window. Please don't copy anything from there. All you have to do is start a reply to this comment and then paste by pressing command-V again.
If any private information, such as your name or email address, appears in the results, anonymize it before posting. Usually that won't be necessary.
12. When you post the results, you might see the message, "You have included content in your post that is not permitted." It means that the forum software has misidentified something in the post as a violation of the rules. If that happens, please post the test results on Pastebin, then post a link here to the page you created.

have done EVERY single thing on this page to no avail, pdfs display fine in every other browser and on pc, just not in ie
I have acrobat pro 11 and windows 8.1
have tried every help article on the internet I can find and still nothing...am probably going to have to get used to another browser, this issue has taken hours and hours and still cannot get it to work

Install the latest update of Reader or Acrobat (done, no effect)
Adobe releases free security updates quarterly. It is important to update your version of Reader or Acrobat to the latest release. The updates often include fixes to common problems. Download the latest free update:

Try viewing a different PDF. If possible, contact the individual or company who manages the website.

Use a different web browser (Pdf'S open in alternate browsers)
Certain conditions on your computer, such as security settings or browser cookies, can prevent you from viewing a PDF. Often, the fastest solution is to try to open the page using a different browser. Try any of the following browsers that you have not already tried:

Switch to Compatibility View (Internet Explorer) (done, no effect)

Restart your computer and try opening the PDF again (done, no effect)
Restart your computer, then open the web page again. Restarting clears the computer memory and memory cache. It is surprising how often simply restarting your computer resolves a display issue.
Delete temporary Internet files (Internet Explorer, Firefox, and Chrome) (done, no effect)
Clear the browser cache (sometimes called 'temporary Internet files') to ensure that you are viewing a fresh version of the page. When you open a web page, the browser saves a temporary copy so that it opens more quickly next time. You want to force the browser to load the entire page directly from the server, rather than displaying a stored copy.
Reset the Display PDF In Browser preference (done, no effect)
1.      In Reader or Acrobat, right-click the document window, and select Page Display Preferences.
2.      From the list at left, select Internet.
3.      Deselect Display PDF In Browser, and then click OK.
4.      Choose Edit > Preferences > Internet, select Display PDF In Browser, and then click OK.
5.      Try to open the PDF again from the website.
View PDF in 32-bit version of Internet Explorer or Safari (done, no effect)
Acrobat and Reader are 32-bit applications on Windows. If you try to open a PDF in a 64-bit version of Internet Explorer, the PDF opens in stand-alone Acrobat or Reader, not in Internet Explorer.
Remove DreamFactory (Firefox only) (done, no effect)
If you receive the error "Cannot use Adobe Reader to view PDFs in your web browser," do the following:
1.      Choose Start > Run, type appwiz.cpl in the Open text box, and then click OK to open the Add Or Remove Programs dialog box.
2.      Select Change Or Remove Programs in the Add Or Remove Programs dialog box, select DreamFactory Runtime for Netscape, Mozilla and Firefox, and click Change/Remove.
3.      Click OK in the Remove Programs From Your Computer dialog box.
