Fonts look blurry - cannot read - Mac OSX

New computer - iMac OSX - cannot read text - fonts blurry or entirely illegible.

Same here, now that you and my wife mentioned it. The real problem is that we're supposed to thank Apple for that blurry text:

Now that I understand why it is blurry, and that there is no hope of finding a "fix", I feel much better...sure do.

  • In v.4 fonts look blurry. Can you solve this shortcoming ?

    Fonts look blurry in the overall menu in this new version of browser (v.4). I tried all the options that you specified with the ClearType an so on... It seems that the problem is not from Windows 7 because the old version looks ok. Can you solve this shortcoming ?
    Until you resolve it I'll stay with the previous version (3.6.16) which it looks really good.

    Yea, when I actually install my applications and launch them from GNOME Shell's menu or launcher the fonts look as blurry as they do when I launch them from Anjuta. Other applications look fine and with the workarounds I described above, my own applications display nicely too when launched from either GNOME Shell or Anjuta.

  • What do I do if I cannot download mac osx due to no space on my computer?

    I cannot download Mac OSX due to not enough space on my computer. What do I do to
    create space?

    Free up space.
    Freeing Up Space on The Hard Drive
      1. See Lion/Mountain Lion/Mavericks' Storage Display.
      2. You can remove data from your Home folder except for the /Home/Library/ folder.
      3. Visit The XLab FAQs and read the FAQ on freeing up space on your hard drive.
      4. Also see Freeing space on your Mac OS X startup disk.
      5. See Where did my Disk Space go?.
      6. See The Storage Display.
    You must Empty the Trash in order to recover the space they occupied on the hard drive.
    You should consider replacing the drive with a larger one. Check out OWC for drives, tutorials, and toolkits.
    Try using OmniDiskSweeper 1.8 or GrandPerspective to search your drive for large files and where they are located.

  • Cannot Install Mac OSX on this Computer!! HELPPPP!

    Well here is the situation. I have a PowerMac G4 (Digital Audio). i had it upgraded a year ago to a 1.53Ghz G4 Processor, 1.5 GB Ram, I have a 160GB HD, and a 40GB HD. All the firmware is up to date. i went to Install leopard and the OS didn't recognise my system configuration. i called Apple and well all i got was " That I basically made a custom PC and Leopard will not recognise the Hardware and configuration. "Cannot Install Mac OSX on this Computer" was the message I got
    So I had to revert Back to Jaguar and I'm hating it. Any help on this one, or should I cut my loses and sell Leopard?

    am currious too as i have a g4 dual processor 800 and am wondering if it will install on it. the dp has plenty of hp to run it. if yours is showing as a 1.5 in profiler should install. but one glitch could be many sonnet upgrades do a trade off and a faster processor but they down clock the fsb speed to get it. check and see if fsb is at least 133. i do pc service for a living and love mac for my own use but apple is a bit arrogant on it's software as to install specs and not offering a uninstaller option. on that windows is a lot more friendly and flexable.

  • Cannot reinstall mac osx 10.5.6

    Hey guys, I am having a problem reformatting my iMac. I am currently running 10.5.8 on my computer. I inserted the mac osx 10.5.6 install dvd and restarted my computer, holding down the c button until the install screen appeared. After choosing the language, it gave me an error saying that mac osx cannot be installed on this computer. Please help me out as I need to get this resolved ASAP. Thank you in advance!!

    Yes, but keep these in mind:
    -The $29 Snow Leopard upgrade box is licensed to be used only on a system that has a licensed copy of Leopard on it. So if you buy that, you'll need to buy a Leopard install DVD too to comply with the terms of the license.
    -The Snow Leopard Box Set (with iLife and iWork) does not require any previous system to be installed, so you can just reformat with that and be ready to go.
    -Even if you choose one of the above two options, it's still a good idea to get a copy of the original install discs, because they include a hardware check utility; and including them when you sell your Mac will help its resale value.

  • Fonts look blurry inside GTK since using Gettext and Autotools

    Hey all,
    I am noticing an issue in three of my projects, but I have no idea where to start debugging. Let me explain below.
    So, I have three projects with GTK3 (and C). At first, I used a simple Makefile and nothing else to compile these applications and all was fine. Some time ago, I imported these into Anjuta (GNOME IDE) which set me up with Autools and also automatically enabled Gettext so I can translate my applications. When I build my applications with Autools, the fonts suddenly look blurry/anti-aliased.
    In one project, I managed to resolve these blurry fonts by removing a call to gtk_window_set_default_icon_name(). In another, I can fix it by removing a Pango markup which does nothing but scale a font to size 48 (removing the call to gtk_window_set_default_icon_name() did not work here). In the third project, I have no idea on how to resolve this, as removing the gtk_window_set_default_icon_name() did not solve it this time either and I do not use Pango markup. As you can see, none of these workarounds have anything in common so I have no idea where to start debugging this.
    I can think of three causes for this:
    1. Autotools;
    2. Gettext;
    3. Anjuta.
    But searching on Google does not give me any viable results.
    You can find the code for all three projects on my GitHub, if needed:
    1. https://github.com/Unia/gcolor3 - Here I removed the call to gtk_window_set_default_icon_name().
    2. https://github.com/Unia/gtimeutils - This one I can solve by removing the Pango markup in GTimer. GStopwatch is fine.
    3. https://github.com/Unia/gxms - No clue to resolve.
    Perhaps I better ask this on another forum, but I thought I'd try here first. Thanks in advance!

  • Bridge CS6 Mac cannot browse Mac OSX server 10.8

    Hello:
    We had a drobo file server which was mounted on the desktop and had no issues browseing the volume in bridge.  After we moved to a new Mac OSX server running 10.8 we can no longer browse the mounted server.  We get a primission violation. Using the finder we're able to browse files and folders and create new files without this same type of issue.
    Is there a preference that allows connection to a network volume via Bridge?
    I hope I was clear on the discritpion of the problem.
    Thanks,
    Rick

    Try a reset of preferences for Bridge using option key while restarting Bridge and choose reset prefs.
    There is also a plist file for Bridge in the user library preferences folder that can be manual deleted and will be refreshed after restarting Bridge.
    And maybe run a check and repair permission with either Apple Disk utility or cocktail.
    Unfortunately Bridge is not designed for use over a network nor official supported by Adobe when it comes networks.

  • Cannot install Mac OSX Snow Leopard on Macbook Pro Unibody with a new SSD

    Hi, I just bought a SSD (OCZ Vertex LE 120GB) to replace the stock SATA HDD. The problem is that the Mac OSX installation fails. I tried a lot of times with no success. Both clean install from DVD or restoration from a Time Machine backup fails.
    The problem doesn't happen if I put the same SSD into a PC to install a Linux or Windows. I've read something saying the problem to be at EFI 1.7, SATA bus and even SATA cable in the Macbook Pro. Can anyone help in this issue?

    IgorOzz wrote:
    Hi OrangeMarlin, thanks for answering and trying to help me in this issue. Well, The SDD is well formated by Disk Utility and GUID partition as well. I tried to clone my HDD to the SDD by using the Disk Utility RESTORE option. By doing this I could boot up from SDD but somethings didn't work well (iPhone crashed at every start), Finder sometimes, and other apps...
    Maybe the disk utility restore option isn't the best way to do that. I'm gonna try the following steps:
    - Carbon Copy to clone my HDD to SDD;
    - Update SDD FW to the last one (but I need to install it on a Windows machine first);
    - Downgrade EFI FW back to 1.6 (not sure if I'll proceed to this step).
    I was thinking about SATA bus and cables because I've read some issues pinpointing to this as the culprit, since the Macbook's SATA wouldn't be able to handle 3Gbps SATA II speeds.
    Now, a little question: Why you say to be not recommended to install the new drive internally? What if, after using the SSD or HDD for a while and the system crashes I need to reinstall Mac OSX? I think it's supposed to be installed from the scratch by the DVD installer. Isn't it?
    Again, thanks... and waiting more replies...
    Do one step at a time, and I highly recommend not "downgrading" the EFI. The unintended consequences might make you throw your MBP out the window.
    Yes, use Carbon Copy Clone. Then try to boot from the cloned drive. Hold Option at startup, and it will give you a choice.
    If it works, then put it in your MBP. If it doesn't boot, then go to step two, repeat clone, and try again.
    My 2010 MBP runs at 3Gbps. I think prior to the 2010 models, Apple had not qualified any drives, other than the ones they put in the MBP's, that could work with 3Gbps drives. You may have one that doesn't.

    Did you try to install the complete combo update (601 MB) or the smaller one (310 MB)?
    You need the larger one. The smaller one is only for updating from 10.5.4

    I had the exact same issue. New MBP, new Adobe CC and I was getting the Verdana error.
    I had recently installed Microsoft office and it looks like it moved some of my fonts from inside the library/fonts/ folder into a sub folder called "Microsoft".
    Once I moved Verdana back into the main font folder dreamweaver is working fine again.

  • HELP PLEASE cannot install Mac Osx

    hey I really need help please!
    I tried to modified my dock using my resources folder in the dock components but I surely did something wrong cause when I tried to click on time machine, it said that I need the right osx version.
    So I restarted my computer but it just wont start, i see the spinning gear over and over again. So i decided to reinstall mac os x tiger and to reupgrade to leopard afterwards.
    I restart m computer, hold C, get to the install process and when I need to choose my volume, I choose my HD, the one in the iMac but its says cannot install on it because of a Volumecheck problem...
    I really need to reinstall it without loosing my data on it I have some important photos for my work, I NEED THEM!
    HELP!

    Hello and welcome to the Apple boards
    If you have been using Time Machine, you can restore your system from it using the Leopard DVD and following the instructions on this link:
    http://www.peachpit.com/articles/article.aspx?p=1091577&seqNum=6
    You might first try booting from the DVD and repairing your HD first. The tools are in the Utility folder on the DVD
    You boot into the DVD by starting the computer and holding down the "C" key.
    Hope this helps a bit.
