Fonts lost -fonts found

After installing Leopard, I have lost a number of fonts, e.g. Univers. I was told, that Leopard would not recognize them because the type of the files is no more compatible with Leopard. This is true for most applications I have, but some of them still find Univers although it cannot be activated, not only one but the whole font suite. And these applications use the font family properly.
Could someone solve the puzzle? It would be great because I need the font desperately.

I was told, that Leopard would not recognize them because the type of the files is no more compatible with Leopard.
OS X can use any Mac font that could be use previously. That includes Type 1 PostScript, legacy Mac TrueType suitcase, .dfont and OpenType.
This is true for most applications I have, but some of them still find Univers although it cannot be activated, not only one but the whole font suite. And these applications use the font family properly.
If this was an install of Leopard over an existing Tiger or Panther OS, it could just be that the font cache files need to be cleared out and rebuilt. Download and run Font Finagler.
Along the same lines, does anyone have a suggestion for retrieving fonts that existed in a previous version of the Mac OS? Specifically, I'm using Chicago and it existed as recently as 10.3, but it's nowhere to be found in 10.5. I still have my 10.3 installer CDs, but browsing the installer packages yields no results.
Chicago is an OS 9 font. If your 10.3 disks are a retail copy, you won't have it. If they are gray disks that came with your Mac, then OS 9 is in one of the installer packages. For my G5, it was in the package marked "Additional Software".

  • Font Management - No Fonts Found

CFDocument does not work due to having no fonts found in Font Management in CF9 Administrator.
also, registering fonts via Font Management fails - nothing but a blank page is displayed when a font path is submitted. here's my system info:
    - Windows Server 2003 Standard x64 Edition
    - ColdFusion 9.01 Enterprise
I've also installed Acrobat X Pro to see if its fonts would be listed in CF9 Administrator, but failed.
any help would be greatly appreicated.
    thanks!

Just out of curiosity, by “uninstalling the CHF2”, do you mean you just removed the cfh9010002.jar? or did you also revert the changes made to the CFIDE, \lib, and \wwwroot]WEB-INF\lib directories? It would just be interesting to know if you did only the former (the jar) and not the latter. Similarly, if you really mean you uninstalled CF and reinstalled it to not include the CHF2, I’ll just note that sometimes problems with the Admin breaking are due instead to mistakes made in updating those other 3 directories. Just sharing the observation.

It appears in my case this was caused by the Cumulative Hot Fix 2. After uninstalling the hot fix 2 the fonts are again listed in the CF9 administrator.

  • KDE: Flash player configuration appears in category Lost and Found

Adobe flash player comes with file
    /usr/share/kde4/services/kcm_adobe_flash_player.desktop
This file contains a line controling where the flash player configuration should appear in the KDE system settings:
    X-KDE-System-Settings-Parent-Category=personal
Unfortunately the parent category does not exist. Hence the Adobe flash player configuration control appears in category "Lost and Found".
The line should be replaced by:

After the correction the system settins show Adobe Flash Player like this:

Here is a screenshot of the incorrect behaviour with the original file:

  • What is an inode file and why is it in my lost and found?

I was llooking through a clone of an old hard drive and found a file called lost and found with an inode file. arent these files used for hacking? being that i am not a hacker, how can i find out where this file came from and if its necessary in the clone. It's on an external disk

    Thanks Wade.
That did the trick, once I figured out the missing step. For other folks interested, to use an .acv file to adjust a curve:
Open the Curves Adjustment Panel > Panel Options drop-down menu > Load Curves Preset... > find & select the .acv file (on hard drive) in the "LOAD" window > click LOAD. The adjustment in the .acv file will be applied to the image and appear in the curves graph of the Curves Adjustment Panel. Slick.
Apparently, moving the .acv file to the "Curves" folder in the "Presets" folder allows this curve adjustment to be a permanent preset choice. It can then be found under the Curves Panel preset drop-down menu. Just look for the original .acv file's name in the list.

I purchased 2 large bags of cell phones at a surplus/lost and found auction. The owner of this phone lost it, and didn't pick it up at the lost and found within 90 days and the phone was put up at auction. By law I am the new legal owner of the phone. The person who lost it locked their phone but didn't bother going to look for it. Not my problem. I went to the Apple store with my auction receipt and they said they still can't erase the old owner's account from the phone, and I need their receipt and their permission. There has to be some way around that. I legally purchased it after they lost it and neglected to pick it up within the time frame the law gave them to pick it up. Basically the Apple Store employee told me I was **** out of luck and the phone is basically garbage.

You were correctly informed. You are the new, legal owner of a beautiful paper weight. There is no way around it. This is a security protection to prevent people who steal them from getting value from the stolen item.

  • What is the lost and found folder on my hd?

there is a folder on my hd that I did not create called "lost and found" and only one document inside that is 3.79 GB called iNode6630939. What is theis file and do I need it?

normally things in lost and found can be deleted.  unix has had a lost and found directory since forever.  if you do a fsck on your drives and a file comes up that is not accounted for, unix puts it in lost and found.  if you are not missing a 3.79 GB file, then delete it.

  • How can I use fonts found in iDVD 08 in other programs?

I created a DVD using 6.0 Themes, Pass Through in particular, by exporting a slideshow movie from iMovie 06 and it looks great. Thank you's to forum members for the help I needed to resolve issues. Deleting the plist files and burning at 2 times speed did the trick to problems I encountered. But here's one I've been spending lots of time on: I used the font, Humana Serif Md ITC TT, on the DVD and I would like to use it on the printed cover, however, I can't access it from any other program. I've used Spotlight to no avail and it does not present itself on the list of available fonts on any other program I have. How can I use that font in Pages to use on my printed DVD cover?

Kool! I just learned something new myself. (thanx Niel)
It's essential that you do exactly as stated above while holding down the option key in the instructions that were kindly provided above. The option key serves to copy these files to an alternate location if I'm not mistaken. Holding down any other key but Option may have an unintended effect on the application itself.
So please do exercise caution while working within the Resources folder / showing package contents.

  • Font found in Font Book but does not show up in Word

I've installed .ttf fonts and they show up in Font Book, but cannot see them in Applications such as Word.  Using OS X Lion
It is located in Desktop/Library/FontCollections/Windows Office Compatible Collection/
I've downloaded fonts from the same site with success.  Fonts appear to be valid (no yellow triangle errors).

Okay, I figured out a few things:
In FontBook I had to go to Preferences and click on "Automatic Font Activation"
Mine didn't require a full restart but even though I had closed my Word docs, I hadn't closed all of the way out of Word.  This was required.
6 out of 8 fonts worked.  This tells me that the problem is with those 2 fonts and the source rather than the Mac.

  • Imported text from word, all missing fonts found, but still have pink boxes for Turkish language

    Hi,
I placed a document from word. The body font is ITC Garamond. Apparently ITC Garamond doesn't have some Turkish characters. Adobe Garamond however, does. So I was going through and selecting each pink box and changing the character to a new character style I created which is the Adobe Garamond Font. Surely there's an easier way to do this rather than me selecting each pink box? Can GREP do this? I would use the Find Font dialogue, but it shows all fonts as being fine, it doesn't show any missing fonts. So this seems to just be a wierd issue with ITC Garamond not having those special characters.
I know what you're thinking, why not just make my body font Adobe Garamond Pro.... Well I can't right now. Not for this job. Maybe in the future I will, but for not it has to stay ITC Garamond condensed Book.
Also, I should note that in the preflight panel, InDesign does not show the document as having any missing Glyphs either.... so Peter's Glyph script won't work.
    Thanks in advance.

In your case I would not add or change a character style, change your paragraph style. A mix between 2 similar fonts looks terrible. You might need a character style for language purposes, to get through with hyphenation correctly, but this is a different thing.
To change a font globally go to search font and replace and redefine styles.
But if you really does not want to change the font you can crate a character style. And in your paragraph style go to GREP styles and select this chara style and write all glyphs and letters where you need this character style.
Take care, if you use a different font you might have to scale in advanced properties, so that a glyph from the other form fits to the rest of the text.

  • Lost (and found) JMS - messages

Using WLS 6.1 and have experienced that JMS messages has not been delivered to
its consumer correctly. We are interested in any suggestions to what has happend,
what can be done to avoid the problem in the future, or perhaps how we can find
              out more about the problem.
We have a message driven bean A which sends messages to the queue Q, of which
the message driven bean B is the only consumer.
What we recently have experienced is that some of the messages delivered by A
to Q never are delivered to B. But the messages seems to be persisted correctly,
because after a restart they reappear!
Following is a more detailed description of the scenario:
              1. A message is sendt with DeliveryMode=PERSISTENT and TimeToLive=0. QueueSender.send
              is invoked and returns normally.
              2. The consumers never gets the message (B.onMessage i never invoked with this
              message).
              3. Point 1-2 is repeated for 13 different messages over a period when ~100 similar
              messages are delivered normally.
              4. The server is then restarted.
              5. In the starup log it is indicated that 44 records are found in the JMSStore.
              6. When the server restarts, the "lost" messages gets delivered to B.
After the server restart we have not experienced the problem again.
Logs does not show anything unusual about the previous restart.
              Other details:
There is always exatly 1 instance of A running, and 5-20 instances of B. A implements
and uses a pool of javax.jms.XAQueueSession instances, which shares a single instance
              of javax.jms.XAQueueConnection. The aknowledge-mode for B is "Auto-aknowledge".
We're using Weblogic Server 6.1.3.0 / Red Hat Linux 7.3.
Any help on this problem is appreciated!

I believe we've seen just the behaviour you describe on 6.1 SP2, but only on a
multi-cpu box (Solaris), and only under load. We can't reproduce the problem reliably,
and get no error messages/warnings anywhere, so very little to send to customer
support; by the time we notice this, the problem's long passed, so a thread dump's
              of no use.
We're going to try and see how SP5 (which has loads of JMS fixes) pans out.
But if you find anything out, could you post here?
              simon.
