  • Illustrator CS6 wont open, stops at loading fonts - MAC OSX

I have a MAC OSX 10.8.5. My Illustrator CS6 wont open anymore. It keeps stalling while loading the fonts. I have uninstalled and re-installed the program twice and also tried deleting the font that it stalled at but then it would just stall when trying to load the next font. I did notice that it seemed to be stalling on fonts that AREN'T OTF format.  I also wasn't sure to delete the fonts out of the SYSTEM, LIBRARY, FONTS folder or the other fonts folder location in LIBRARY.  I really need to get this program working, please help!!!!!

    thank you, already did that

  • Installed fonts (mac Default font) in my Font Book doesn't show up in photoshop  CC

Hello, I'm in trouble with fonts.
    I'm using mac OS X 10.9.4 mavericks.
I want to use 'HanziPen SC' which is already installed in my Font book but it doesn't show up in photoshop CC.
It has been default font since mavericks, maybe.
And I have same situation in AI as well.
I've already tried to clear cache and reboot photoshop but it didn't work to me.
    Does anyone help me?

    Thank you for your kindness!
    It was solved!
But in my case, the reason why it didn't show up was veeeery stupid...
    I checked out Adobe/Adobe Photoshop CC/CT Font Cache/Adobe_Fnt_OSFont.lst
Then, there was 'HanziPen SC' and I found out surprising fact!
    Its Writing script was 'Chinese'!!
So I couldn't find 'HanziPen' even though I typed 'HanziPen'.
It has been shown up in Chinese...
What I did is to over write WritingScript,FamilyNameNative,StyleNameNative,FullNameNative to Japanese.
I don't know why it happened to me at all. but anyway, finally I was able to  see the one in photoshop CC.
Again, Thank you for your kindness. If you didn't suggested about cache files, I might have not found out the answer.
    Thank you!!!!

  • Fonts Mac / Magazine in PC

    Hi guys,
I dunno if anybody out there because Easter times. Anyhow, my question is that i brought a magazine from work which used PC Postscript 1 fonts. Everytime i open any of those pages it says "Missing Fonts". Question: Is there any way to change all the fonts for ALL files at once rather than doing file by file and font by font replacement? I know it sounds complicated or it maybe impossible, but maybe with Linotype FontXplorer and Smart Font Sets could be a way.
    Any ideas?
    Cheers,
    Sebastiao

    Hi guys,
Thanks for the good info! Let´s see...
1 - I am aware of the Find/Replace font, but if I have to do it in 20 different files with more than 15 fonts in each files it can be quite a tedious and boring task. I will like to find a way to relinks those files and fonts without doing it one by one. Maybe there is no way.
2 - I am just trying to open my magazine files made with InDesign CS1 with old postscript fonts for Windows at home with my Mac, and Indesign CS3. I would like the fonts to be the same not to change the design look. For example an Helvetica in Postscript Type 1 will look almost the same with an Helvetica Neue True Type or Open Type.
3 - I did not know that "Windows Type 1 fonts can be installed in the InDesign fonts folder". How I do that? just by drag and drop? Windows Type 1 have separate files for print and screen will that work? Should I divide the files among PFM and AFM?
    Thanks again,
    Sebastiao

  • Hebrew Fonts Mac Indesign CS6

    Hey there!
I'm having problems with my Hebrew fonts and need help. I have Indesign CS6 for Mac and have downloaded the Hebrew Supported version. I have set up my document so that paragraph and character reflect the need for Hebrew. I can use the standard Hebrew system fonts, however I have loads of great Hebrew fonts which are recognised by Font Book but not in Indesign. The weird thing is that on CS4 these fonts were recognised (however at that time I didn't have Hebrew support so ended up typing, letter for letter, backwards to get the text I needed.
Can you give me some indication as to why I am unable to use these fonts? When I try to use them I get this warning:

The warning sounds like it indicates that the font you want to use might not be suitable for Unicode Hebrew.  Are they perhaps in some legacy encoding?
In any case, you should also search/ask in the forums devoted entirely to the problems of Adobe products, if you have not done so already:

  • Cant apply superscript or subscript on opentype font (mac snow leopard/CS4)

For some reason when I try to apply the subscript or superscipt (or any style) on CS4 using snow leopard it does not seems to work properly.  For some fonts, it works for some characters (mostly numbers).
Is this an issue with incomplete fonts?

Opentype fonts is a set of characters and specifications...You mentioned right. Some opentype fonts can contain for example ligatures, glyphs or adittional specifications. Some open type fonts can contain subscript or superscript as glyphs, and others do not.
To paracially solve your problem, have you already tried to set a "faux" subscript or superscript?

  • Problem with fonts while printing PDF in MAC OS

I have PDF file. It contains Cyrillic fonts and looks OK on the screen in MAC OS
But during printing all labels are presented wrongly and not readable. I have tryied two options:
    1) Opened PDF in built-in MAC OS Viewer
    2) Downloaded and installed Acrobat Reader and printed from it
Printing results by both methods are different, but in both cases text is not readable.
Attaching screenshots (part of laptop screen) from laptop screen and printing results (scanned paper sheets)
Printer: Cannon MP560 (with standard driver version 10.84.2.0)

    Max,
Try Troubleshoot fonts | Mac OS X and go through each step.  You can probably skip step 1 as it's already displaying correctly.  Good luck.

  • Old fonts from System 7 & Mac OS 8 & OS 9: Safe to install in 10.6.4?

I've been accumulating fonts for years and years. I recently got a new MacBook Pro and it's now running 10.6.4.
I still have, backed up on an external drive, hundreds of freeware, shareware and pro-level fonts which I acquired way back in the distant past, some as early as System 7 -- the "Date created" column says they're dated starting 1992 and every year up through 2004. (There's also about 15 System 6-era fonts in there too going back to 1989, but I think I'm just going to trash those.)
My question: Is it "safe" to install these fonts on my 10.6.4 machine? Or could the ancient fonts cause some kind of operating system meltdown or panic or whatever?
Perhaps the OS 8 & OS 9 fonts are safe, but not the System 6 and System 7 fonts?
    Or all they all safe?
And even if they are safe to install: Will they work?
Lastly: What's the best way to install them? I see a new feature in OSX which I had never noticed until now is that if one double-clicks the font icon, a "Font Book" window pops up with an optional "Install Font" button at the lower right. By clicking that button, does Font Book physically move the font file to the proper place in the OSX system? Or...?
Any advice or insight into this problem would be most appreciated. I want to have access to all my old fonts (I still have many documents which make use of them) but I don't want to mess up my fresh new 10.6.4 system. Thanks.

My question: Is it "safe" to install these fonts on my 10.6.4 machine?
    Yes.
Or could the ancient fonts cause some kind of operating system meltdown or panic or whatever?
Only if they conflict with other fonts, or are corrupt.
Perhaps the OS 8 & OS 9 fonts are safe, but not the System 6 and System 7 fonts?
Anything from System 8 forward will work. System 6 used bitmapped fonts. These are not supported in OS X. System 7 and 7.5 though were a mix. There were both TrueType and bitmapped fonts. Only the TrueType fonts can be used.
It does depend on where you're reading about these old fonts. One site notes that TrueType fonts were introduced in System 7. Another states that there were TrueType fonts in System 6.
And even if they are safe to install: Will they work?
Yes. I have tons of old fonts; Mac TrueType from OS 9 and earlier, Type 1 PS fonts from way back, etc. They all work just fine.
What's the best way to install them?
The best way actually, with Font Book, is to not install them. Which I will explain per the next part:
"Font Book" window pops up with an optional "Install Font" button at the lower right. By clicking that button, does Font Book physically move the font file to the proper place in the OSX system?
If you look in Font Book's preferences, fonts you "install" can go to either the /Library/Fonts/ folder, or by default, the Fonts folder in your user account. What you really want to do is activate fonts "in place", which is to activate them from where they are instead of creating copies. Do this by creating a Library Set in Font Book rather than a normal set. Fonts added to a Library Set are activated in place.

  • Flash CS6 :: Cant access fonts installed on Mac

    Flash CS6
    Mac. 10.6.8
Text Tool does NOT provide me all the Fonts(typefaces) installed on my mac. Particularly i would like to use certain Fonts, so any solution leading to just bringing individual fonts would be good enough for now.
    What i did so far:
I use Font Book to manage my fonts, the font I have in mind is not damaged and there are no conflicts. they show up in all other Adobe software. I tried to clear my Font Cache and it didnt work (as suggested in few discussions).

How can I solve this problem?.
    Regards.

Crap - sorry, I typed too quick, the upstream source if fine.  But as that PKGBUILD does some odd things, I missed the problem.   The simplest (but far from best) fix is to change the lines in the package function to the following:
    svn co https://macbuntu.svn.sourceforge.net/svnroot/macbuntu/Macbuntu/fonts/ ./
    install -d $pkgdir/usr/share/fonts/{TTF,Type1}
    install -m644 ./Macbuntu/fonts/gbk/*.ttf $pkgdir/usr/share/fonts/TTF
    install -m644 ./Macbuntu/fonts/mac/*.ttf $pkgdir/usr/share/fonts/TTF
    install -m644 ./Macbuntu/fonts/mac/*.pfb $pkgdir/usr/share/fonts/Type1
That is, add the proper paths to the install commands.
EDIT: or here is one that is at least a lot closer to the right way - though it's the first svn PKGBUILD I've worked on:
    _svn=ttf-mac-fonts
    pkgname=${_svn}-svn
    pkgver=134
    pkgrel=1
pkgdesc="Mac fonts including Lucida Grande, Apple Garamond and other fonts from Apple"

  • Some fonts are not working

I need to use Times or Times New Roman font, and the apostrophe/quotation mark key just turns out a weird combination of letters instead. The key works in some fonts but not others. How can I fix this?

    Hi Bethanning,
    Welcome to Apple Discussions
You may want to look at Using and Managing Fonts in Mac OS X PDF. It says,
"Mac OS X is not limited to Roman alphabets
because it takes advantage of Unicode.Applications
that support Unicode can select characters from a
set of up to 65,636 different symbols. This is almost
one glyph for every possible character in every
written language. Most fonts don’t need so many
symbols, but many non-Roman fonts used in Asia
and the Middle East can have many thousands of
    different glyphs.
To make it easy for users to select keyboard
layouts that correspond to different fonts,Mac OS X
provides an Input menu. This shows different
keyboard layouts so you can use the same keyboard
to select different glyphs. You can turn different
    keyboard layouts,including the new Character
Palette,on and off through the Input Menu tab in
the International pane in System Preferences."
Not every font has the same symbols in the same places (sometimes symbols my not be included.

  • Adobe Photoshop CC 2014 For Mac - Text Cursor Not Stable!

I recently installed some fonts on my Mac Pro and besides the fact that Microsoft Office 2011 now crashes upon starting any program within that suite, I've also noticed that Photoshop, specifically the text cursor when you go to create or edit text, now changes between the arrow and the round circle of dots synonymous with a Mac. Oddly enough, I have THE EXACT same setup on my MacBook Pro and it IS NOT doing this! Has anyone come acoss this issue? I've tried everything from uninstalling and reinstalling Photoshop CC 2014 to clearing font caches using OnyX to making sure accessibility options aren't causing the issue and well beyond that! It's extremely annoying and yes I've even tried toggling between seeing the workspace background and seeing the desktop background in Photoshop and still, to no avail, this damn issue has been plaguing me all day! If anyone has a fix (besides me reformatting and reloading EVERYTHING) please, please, please post and/or e-mail me directly at [email protected] As I said, I loaded the EXACT same fonts to both my MP and MBP and the issue only arose on my MP, of course, the one that I NEED to work! Thanks SO much!

  • HT1338 Mac needs to be shut down by holding the power button.

I got a brand new macbook pro today. Within 3 hours of use I got an error saying I needed  to restart my computer. I did so, then it happened again 10 minutes later. I shut down my mac and its been off ever since. I googled this and its called a kernel error. What do I do? The closest apple store is 1.5 hours away.

    Hey,
By loading into Safe Mode; (taken from HT1564)
It forces a directory check of the startup volume. You may see a progress bar on the screen during this check, and the computer may take longer than usual to complete its startup.
It loads only required kernel extensions (some of the items in /System/Library/Extensions).
In Mac OS X v10.3.9 or earlier, Safe Mode runs only Apple-installed startup items (such items may be installed either in /Library/StartupItems or in /System/Library/StartupItems; these are different than user-selected account login items).
It disables all fonts other than those in /System/Library/Fonts (Mac OS X v10.4 or later).
It moves to the Trash all font caches normally stored in /Library/Caches/com.apple.ATS/(uid)/ , where (uid) is a user ID number such as 501 (Mac OS X v10.4 or later).
It disables all startup items and login items (Mac OS X v10.4 or later).
Mac OS X v10.5.6 or later: A Safe Boot deletes the dynamic loader shared cache at (/var/db/dyld/). A cache with issues may cause a blue screen on startup, particularly after a Software Update. Restarting normally recreates this cache.
Taken together, these changes can help resolve software or directory issues that may exist on the startup volume.

  • Encoding Cmap specified by a font is missing Error Message

    Hello all,
I'm afraid I'm having an issue with Adobe Acrobat 9.0 Pro running on Windows XP SP3. I've searched the depths of the internet to find a solution to no avail. Here is hoping this isn't a lost effort to finally get someones support and assistance with the issue.
I work in the IT field and I am seeing an error message on one of our users systems. "The encoding (Cmap) specified by a font is missing." It seems to show up when the user attempta to delete a particular PDF page or replace a certain page. As far as I can understand, this has something to do with the PC itself as I had the user attempt the same process on another PC running Adobe Acrobat 9.0 Pro.
I can't find any solution on the internet, but I did notice that other programs people have used have generated the same error message.
Please help as I am becoming exhausted researching the cause of the error.
    Thank you,
