Fonts missing - Arial (T1) Bold and BookAntiqua Regular

Hi,
When I open up an InCopy file, it says the two fonts above are missing.
Can anybody tell me where to find them?
Many thanks,
Neil.

I understand your frustration with this. Sorry in advance if I'm repeating anything you've already tried...
It sounds like you've already copied the fonts into the C:\Program Files\Common Files\Adobe\Fonts folder.
If you haven't copied them into the InDesign Fonts folder, you'll need to do that as well.
Copy:
ARIALN.TTF
ARIALNB.TTF
ARIALNBI.TTF
ARIALNI.TTF
from C:\Windows\Fonts or C:\Program Files\Common Files\Adobe\Fonts
into C:\Program Files\Adobe\Adobe InDesign CS5\Fonts
Substitute in the appropriate indesign fonts folder if your directory structure is different from mine.
As you're probably aware, if they're installed correctly they will only show up as variants of the Arial font:
If this doesn't work, you might want to see if there is a  hotfix for "2003 Microsoft Office System" (instead of the 2007 hotfix discussed in the prior thread you posted in). Keep in mind that the office 2007 hotfix actually patched the font files themselves, so I don't know if there's a patch for the office 2003 fonts.
Good luck,
Dan

How do I get Firefox to DISPLAY a font as clear and clean as Word? I choose different fonts in Firefox and sizes and nothing really happens.

You can use an extension to set a default font size and page zoom on web pages:
    *NoSquint: https://addons.mozilla.org/firefox/addon/nosquint/
    *Default FullZoom Level: https://addons.mozilla.org/firefox/addon/default-fullzoom-level/

  • My font totally changed after the last Firefox update. It is a little smaller, less bold and very much less clear. Please tell me how to fix this.

The default font used on websites like Facebook, Craigslist, Google etc. has now become much worse since the last update. It is much less clear, it almost looks choppy and transparent. As if part of the letters are missing. Less bold and just a tad smaller as well. I would like to go back to the way the font used to look like, the way it does in Internet Explorer and Chrome.

hi miked91, this is probably caused by microsoft update kb3013455 which can cause font rendering issues on vista:
<blockquote>After you install security update 3013455, you may notice some text quality degradation in certain scenarios. The problem only occurs on systems that are running Windows Vista SP2 or Windows Server 2003 SP2. Microsoft is researching this problem and will post more information in this article when the information becomes available. </blockquote>
    reference: https://support.microsoft.com/kb/3013455
one option may be to [http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/remove-update#1TC=windows-vista roll-back this particular update] for now until there is a fix by microsoft or you could also look if there is a [[Upgrade your graphics drivers to use hardware acceleration and WebGL|graphics driver update]] available on the website of the vendor (intel/amd/nvidia) which might also resolve this problem in some cases.

  • After the 6.0 update, my font for my xfinity email and on other websites changed to a random font, how do i change it back or set the default font to one that i can read?

after the automatic download happened, the font changed to some script font i have. i removed that font, then it defaulted to another not so good looking font, and it has done that each time i disable the font. why is it doing this, but more importantly, how do i fix it so it is a basic font like arial?

Now arial looks fine as of windows.

  • Arial Narrow Bold, Italic and Bold Italic are missing in CC 2014.

I have been trying to fix the mess Adobe and Microsoft did with the Arial Narrow font and no luck. I am on Windows 7 64, fully updated, running the CC 2014. The font Arial Narrow Regular shows as part of the Arial family. No problem there. However the variations: Arial Narrow Bold, Arial Narrow Bold Italic and Arial Narrow Italic do not show anywhere in Illustrator and Photoshop (2014). I am afraid of trying InDesign and breaking down in tears when they show nowhere there too. So frustrating!
Heads up: these solutions do not work: Arial Narrow unavailable, incomplete | CS applications | Windows and Description of the 2007 Office hotfix package (Gfonts.msp): August 26, 2008. Don't bother listing them as references on your answer. Thanks in advance.
The one thing I was not able to try was installing the Arial Narrow family that came with Windows XP because I don't have Windows XP!! Does anyone know where one can download those files from?
Any other ideas on how to fix that bug?
    Thanks!

PS: No, I am not in love with Arial, but as a government contractor I have no option but use it everywhere

  • Arial Narrow and Arial Narrow Bold Font issue

    Good afternoon,
We currently have Adobe Creative Suite 5 and the issue I'm having is with InDesign. Here's a description of the problem:
We've been using InDesign on Windows XP for some time and have not had any issues using the Arial Narrow or Arial Narrow Bold fonts. However, we recently purchased a Windows 7 PC and installed CS5 on it. Whenever the user on this new PC opens up an InDesign document, that was created on Windows XP w/ the mentioned fonts, an error comes up stating that the listed fonts (Arial Narrow and Arial Narrow Bold) are not available on the system and that substitute fonts will used. So then I have the option to replace the missing fonts with other fonts, which I am able to replace with the Arial Narrow and Arial Narrow Bold fonts that are already in the Windows 7 font folder. So it's almost like InDesign see's the fronts from XP and Windows 7 as two different things. I checked the version numbers on both fonts and they are the same (2.40).
Does anybody have any ideas? I've googled the issue and Adobe actually says that this is a Microsoft problem and is related to Office 2007 installing the Arial fonts with extra properties, wherein a hotfix is provided by Microsoft to resolve the issue. I've applied this hotfix and it does not do anything. I've also copied the fonts from the Windows XP machine and replaced the Windows 7 fonts with this, as well as vice versa, but this also does not resolve the issue.
Any insight would be helpful. Thanks!

I found a solution for myself. Regenerate in ttf by defalt all 4 arial narrow fonts with Fontlab Studio without any changes to fonts info or structure. Then install them into system (Windows/Fonts). Clean old arial narrows files before. Then do search for adobefnt*.lst on system disk. Delete those files (only .lst not .db or any other). Great! Works perfectly in all adobe apps! Shows all names in arial family submenue.

  • Missing Fonts in Adobe Illustrator CS5 Version 15.1.0 Agenda Bold and Agenda Black

    Hi,
We are using Adobe Illustrator CS5 Version 15.1.0  to re-create Points of Sales (PoS) that our 3rd party company sends us. But when we open the PoS from the 3rd Party we get a message saying we are missing 2 fonts. The names of these are Agenda Bold and Agenda Black. Are these Fonts from a newer version of Illustrator or are we able to purchase/download these?
Any help would be much appreciated!!
    Thanks,

These are not standard system or Adobe fonts. You will have to buy them from whatever type foundry that produces them.

  • CS4 (XP Pro)--missing bold and italic fonts for PMingLiu font

I'm working on a book that's been translated into Chinese. The Chinese text I'm using was sent to me in Microsoft Word using the PMingLiu font. While in Word, there are some characters that appear in bold and/or italics, but those disappear when I try any means of importing into ID (as in placing the file as a Word document, placing the file as rtf, or even just copying and pasting from Word).
As I've seen mentioned in other topics on this forum, no matter what I do, I get the pink boxes that I have to highlight and change to PMingLiu (slow but not a huge problem). But I really do need the bolds and italics. I only seem to have "Regular" PMingLiu--don't have the bold and italic varieties listed in my font list.
Are those fonts available somewhere to download?
Thanks so much to the oh-so helpful readers of this forum!

Microsoft Office applications as well as many other applications allow you to "bold" or "italicize" content even when the "bold" or "italic" version of the font is either not installed or in fact might not even exist. Artificial bold usually consists of stroking the character slightly in addition to filling it. Artificial italic is performed by skewing (obliqueing) the character to simulate the look of an italic style. Although these artificial techniques sometimes yield usable results, they are typically NOT supported by graphic arts programs such as InDesign, Illustrator, or Photoshop. Typically, bold and italic faces are typical of most but not all "Latin" font families but are less common for non-Latin font families.
In your particular case, I suspect that artificial bold, italic, and/or combinations of bold and italic were used with the font in question. InDesign does "the right thing" by indicating that no such font exists. If you want to simulate bold, let the characters in question be stroked in addition to being filled. The width of the stroke will obviously depend on the point size of the text and the style of the characters. You will need to experiment a bit. For italics, skew the characters to the right; again you will need to experiment.
Doing a quick web search, from what I can best determine, there are no bold or italic versions of PMingLiu available either for free or for paid licensing.

  • PDFExport fonts. How they are detected, difference between bold and italic.

    Hi,
i am experiencing issues with PDFExport mainly because i don't understand how the engine detects fonts in the original document.
First i will explain my issue:
PDFExport is used on linux machine environment.
Copyright reasons prevents me from using windows fonts for PDFExport. I downloaded some open source fonts, most of time they are working fine. the issues that i have are with the variations the fonts. italicized and bold.
Lets take an example of a .doc file. the file contains Hebrew characters some of them are bolded some italicized and some are regular. the font that .doc used is a windows font called David.
When i use PDFExport with the original David fonts everything works fine and converted correctly to PDF. Since i cannot use windows fonts i resorted to using the Open Source fonts, they too have similar in style to David. they have bold version, italicized version and regular version.
When i use the open source fonts the detection of the font is incorrect. the entire document becomes italic. when i remove the italic version of the font everything is bold. and when i remove the bold version everything becomes regular. -- i am missing the bold and italic styles when they are used in the document.
(note that the original document can use any font it wants not restricted to the Copyright issue)
if i understood how the detection worked, i could modified the open source fonts that i have so that it will detect correctly all the different style (bold and italicized ) correctly.
    my first question:
How can i use the Open source fonts and also not lose the bold and italicized styles?
    my second question:
    2. Is there a way to recieve via the API which fonts the engine looked for and didn't find? it can help me to better understand which fonts i need. and may be look for them and bring them manually.
sometimes even when i used the entire windows fonts folder still the fonts where missing or incorrect. (in the resulted converted PDF 'squares' instead of characters). an API like this may help me look for the missing fonts.
    my third question:
is there a general guide or Standard which fonts to use. i wish to use the minimum number of fonts which will get the job done. i.e characters will be visible and not squares, styles (bold and italicized) should not be lost.
    my forth question:
How do the engine choose which font to use?

These are very deep technical questions and I assume it will be difficult to find anyone who knows answers on this forum.
You will need to speak with Outside In people (you could also try other conversion component such as OpenOfficeConversion - see http://docs.oracle.com/cd/E23943_01/doc.1111/e10800/c03_pdfi_all.htm#IBRAG238). Contacts to OIT are available at Oracle Outside In Technology, or try to create a SR via Metalink.

  • Bold and italic fonts in dynamic text fields.

I have a dynamic text field with the text "IMAGES". The font
is Arial, it has BOLD and ITALIC checked, and has basic Latin fonts
embedded. Now, I use Actionscript to change the text:
    textField.text = "IMAGES";
Suddenly the text disappears! Now, it seems to me that since
BOLD and ITALIC are checked on the text field, changing the .text
value should simply change the text itself, which should then be
rendered in bold and italic, and since I have bold+italic Latin
glyphs embedded, it should display properly. But what's clearly
happening is that when I set the text using Actionscript, it is
attempting to display the NORMAL font instead, and since it's not
embedded, it won't display. I know this because if I create another
proxy text field off the screen and embed the NORMAL Arial glyphs,
the original text field's text will display just fine - as
    normal-weight text.
But why is this? Do I have to use a TextFormat object to set
the text to Bold and Italic EVERY time I want to dynamicaly change
the text? This seems silly. I simply want my text field to be bold
and italic every time the text changes, and NO normal text!
    Any ideas?

I met the same problem using ActionScript3 and Flash Professional CS5. There are two problems with dynamic TextFields:
    - When you set style "Bold" for a text field in CS5, the "bold" property is not available in the TextField object in ActionScript, its defaultTextFormat.bold is alway false; I don't know if we can get this property anywhere else.
    - When you change the text of the dynamic TextField object, its style changes to normal no matter whether it was bold previously.
This is really a bug in TextField, Adobe should fix this to implement TextField in an expected way.

  • Hello. I am trying to self host Italia fonts (Book, Bold and Medium) on Adobe Muse. I purchased web fonts from Linotype that are "obfuscated" - which means the name is hidden. Apparently I also need to install system fonts. Can I install with code in muse

Hello! I am trying to self host Italia fonts in muse. I purchased from Linotype the web fonts. But they sent obfuscated fonts and code. I need to also install as system fonts and those do not work for that. We already have different Italia fonts that we owned prior but they are not obfuscated... Is this a problem? Is there an easier way I can do this? TIA!

    Abhishek,
Thank you for the reply. Wanted to comment on a few things.
I reviewed the other post that you've referenced. Nothing unusual jumped out at me as something that I was not aware of. I'm running an older iMac that is in good working condition. 2.4 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo, 24" screen. I know this issue is fleeting, as I stated earlier typically can be corrected with a restart of the CC Desktop application (that I am always running at startup). I have not been able to determine that shutting down Muse corrects the issue. I would, at this time say it doesn't.
I did open InDesign and see if the fonts in question, Open Sans and Open Sans Condensed, were present and usable. They were. The fonts are shown as being synched in my CC Desktop app window (even if they are not "installed" in Muse). That is expected but it may be a bug in how Muse brings in a font from those that are already synched to your CC account. I don't know enough about how that works to comment.
And just to complicate matters, Muse seems to be working again, the fonts that is. I brought them back in and they are showing up in all locations (which there are actually three - see screen shots).
First is primary text menu dropdown (to right of orange "Text").
Second is if you click orange Text link. Another drop down menu appears.
And lastly, the Text Panel to right of screen.
I also wanted to add this extra bit of information, for what it is worth. When the issue arises and you do not get the sub-menu dropdown showing various styles of the font (italics, bold, etc.), one can use click on the missing font if you had used it previously and it is present in the "previously used font" list.
    Cheers!

  • Euclid Symbol Bold and Italic fonts not working in Indesign CS5

Hi I created some Maths Text books about 5 years ago in an older Adobe Indesign program. I now have to re-edit the files using Indesign CS5.
The Euclid Symbol Bold and Italic fonts i used back in 2005 now do not display in Indesign 5 when i open up the program. The other Euclid Symbol Fonts do. I think that they are all truefonts.
