Fonts missing in package folder

When I open an InDesign document in Bridge, I see the list of fonts used. When I package the file in InDesign, and look in the fonts folder, some of the fonts are missing (although there were no problems with the fonts in the package report). Why are they missing in the fonts folder created by packaging?

I'm using InDesign CS6, windows. I've just upgraded from PageMaker 6.5 which used to do the same thing. This is my first InDesign project, so I don't know if it will happen with all projects. This project uses 19 different fonts (lots of advertisements with different fonts used). About 4 or 5 fonts did not appear in the fonts folder when packaged. Yet, when I opened the packaged file on another computer, there were no missing fonts and all appeared well. Is there a place where I can click on a font and see where in the document it is used?

  • CC 2014 package folder fonts question

I'm in CC 2014 I had a client send me a package with all links and fonts, when I open  the .indd file inside the main folder of the package I get the update links? box. Once the links update I get the Typekit dialogue box which shows I have 4 missing fonts ( no matching fonts in Typekit. When I click Find Font I see the orange symbols with the missing font but I already know that the missing fonts are NOT on my computer ( I have a Mac) But the fonts are in the fonts folder within the package. I also see ( in the dID font drop down, the fonts missing are in parenthesis.
SO my questions here are as follows:
do I ALWAYS need to EXTRACT fonts from the fonts folder in the package and place in my computer when I have this situation?
    R

Make sure the name of the fonts folder in the package is Document Fonts and ID should automatically use them without other intervention with a few exceptions. First, it doesn't work with Type 1 fonts. Second, Mac format fonts are not cross-platform compatible, so .dfont or Mac TrueType will not work on Windows.

  • User fonts missing from book but still in folder

Help. My user fonts suddenly don't show up in font book. I've tried all the standard fixes.
    - restarted in SAFE mode.
    - cleared the font cache
    - verified the disc
    - repaired permissions
    - reinstalled both font book and the user font folder from an older version in Time Machine
    - Verified all the fonts.
I haven't tried tossing them in another user account yet because I find the idea of having to reset up the entire user account alarming. Is there anything else I can try? These fonts all worked just days ago.
If I click on the fonts in the user folder they come up 'installed' and reappear. But as soon as I close and reopen fontbook they disappear again.
Here's the general console readout (the short version, there is a lot more of the same.)

This might be too late to help Starhorsemac, but I just solved a nearly identical problem on my iMac running Mountain Lion.
The problem turned out to be that the fontd lauchd agent had been disabled for my account.  Re-enabling the agent made all of my user fonts re-appear in Font Book.
To check and see if fontd is running, open a terminal window and type:
launchctl list | grep -i fontd
If fontd is running, you'll get a line similar to this:
         154     -     com.apple.fontd
If fontd is running, your problem is different than mine.
If fontd is not running, you can start it with this command:
launchctl load -wF -D system com.apple.fontd
I hope someone finds this useful.

  • How to load original fonts in a packaged ID file I was sent

How to a load fonts into a packaged document another designer sent me; I don't want to use them in my document, but I'd like them in hers. This InDesign CC14. In other words, I have her fonts in her package, but don't know how to get them showing in her document correctly without using them in mine.

Sorry for the delay in answering. The fonts named as missing are:
Helvetica Neue  (T1) 107 Extra Black Cond Oblique
Helvetica Neue  (T1) 27 Ultra Light Condensed
    Helvetica Neue  (T1) 35 Thin
    Helvetica Neue  (T1) 45 Light
    Helvetica Neue  (T1) 65 Medium
Helvetica Neue  (T1) 66 Medium Italic
Helvetica Neue  (T1) 67 Medium Condensed
    Helvetica Neue  (T1) 75 Bold
Helvetica Neue  (T1) 76 Bold Italic
Helvetica Neue  (T1) 77 Bold Condensed
Helvetica Neue  (T1) 77 Bold Condensed Oblique
    Helvetica Neue  (T1) 85 Heavy
Helvetica Neue  (T1) 86 Heavy Italic
Helvetica Neue  (T1) 87 Heavy Condensed
    Helvetica Neue  (T1) 95 Black
Helvetica Neue  (T1) 97 Black Condensed
Helvetica Neue  (T1) 97 Black Condensed Oblique
    Times (T1)
    Helvetica Neue-Heavy
I do not see these in the Fonts Folder, or much else I recognize as a font. I didn’t look before because I just assumed when packaged every font would be collected, but maybe they are just not there.

  • Fonts missing in Illustrator, but present in InDesign

I am asking this on behalf of our Art Department. I am the Systems Administrator. We have InDesign files from our customer, which our Art Department uses to produce pre-press proofs, and large-format digital prints. They have some files which look fine in InDesign, but when they create PDF's to bring into Illustrator to add crop marks, they show up with missing fonts. I am having them work around the problem by converting all the type to outlines before exporting, but we would prefer a better solution. The problem also appears using EPS for export.
We are on CreativeCloud, Macintosh OSX, Lion.

    MarkTJohnsRSSP wrote:
Thank you for you quick response. What is baffling to me is this is the same computer, where the InDesign file has no problem with the fonts in the file, but Illustrator does. The only reason we are using PDf as an interchange is that there doesn't seem to be any other way to get the InDesign files into Illustrator. Crop marks aren't the only thing our people are doing. I'm not an artist, but this is the workflow they have been using for years, and it's been fine until this season.
Even if this is the workflow they have been used for many years it is not a good workflow.
It is a no-go to convert fonts to outlines in InDesign it can cause demage.
It is not good to open any pdf in Illustrator if it does not come from Illustrator itself. If you need to use a pdf in Illustrator place it and link it. Otherwise the font information will be destroyed.
Crop marks should always be added with InDesign export.
Avoid EPS. It makes no sense to use it except for very simple graphics like bar code or a simple logo without transparency. There is no reason to export EPS neither. Why do you use EPS? What for?
If a font is available in InDesign but not in Illustrator it might be that this font is in a folder with the name "Document fonts" which is found on the same place as the indd file. These fonts are available only to indd files on that place.

  • Fonts missing

    Hello,
I have a problem with Gotham fonts, I have Indd CC on Windows 8 and the program does not recognize the font entirely, missing diacriticle/some glyphs.
I have the same problem with Indd CS5, but i fixed when i put the fonts in Innd folder.
I try the same thing now but not working, i installed the fonts in Control Panel/Fonts also in Indd folder.
    Can you help me?
    Thank you,
    Alexandra

Did you ever consider to install the font from its original data source?
OTF is ok, but you should replace your Type 1 fonts (you have PFB and INF, but what's about PFM and AFM?) as modern OS don't support T1 any more.
What happens if you put the font in a folder named "Document fonts" (exactly written) aside to your INDD file?

Silly error ... the file path is not correct.  I assumed that the file path was relative to my XML descriptor in the project. That XML file is inside the package "core" along with the folder "iOS_icons", so the file path would be "iOS_icons/icon-???.png".  Instead the file path is relative to the XML descriptor file that FB4.7 creates for packaging. This ends up-one in the file path, outside the "core" package. So the correct file path turned out to be "core/iOS_icons/icon-???.png".  This is what it should be in my XML descriptor:
    <icon>
            <image29x29>core/iOS_icons/icon-29.png</image29x29>

  • VS2012 removing Package folder for SharePoint 2013

    Hi,
Has anybody faced a problem with Visual studio 2012 where it removes the package folder automatically when you open the project and working in a team. After that it throws error in publishing and deploying and one has to readd this folder from backup. we
are using TFS and dont know what is causing this issue to trigger.
    Appreciate any help.

    Hi Nitin,
I'd like to know what's the error in publishing and deploying, and it would be better to elaborate more details about your scenario and let us know the reproduce steps.
You can check if you have delete the folder but not check in. And you can also try to create a new workspace, then do a workspace mapping. Make sure the local version are the same with the server version and try again. Another option is have a check on other
    machines.

  • Music files missing/hidden in folder on network hdd

    Hi all,
I have setup my home net work with a iMac (mountain Lion) backed up by a TimeCapsule and at the back of the TimeCapsule I have a 2TB networked external HDD. My iTunes library is located on this HDD, I take care not to start up iTunes before this networked external HDD has propoerly mounted to avoid any conflicts with links to my itunes library files and folders.
The other day I noticed a few missing files (the dreaded exclamation mark !), not too bad a figured, I located a few manually but reached some that does my head in...... Out of the whole album there are two files "missing", the other ones play as they should. When I try and locate the missing files the folder comes up empty.....
I have even checked the songs that do play in the same album....they dont show up either, even though they still play in iTunes (yes, they are all located at the same location). The album was originally ripped from a CD and I don't use iTunes Match or Genius.
I have tried to find the files by:
1."open in finder" - files missing / whole folder empty
2."through finder and located the drive and folder" - files missing / folder empty
3."copy file location from "get info" and paste into "go to folder" - the file temporarily appears in the finder window but dissapears shortly after / folder yet again empty.
    4. I check the folder "get info" from my finder and it says "zero bytes"
    5. I can't use Search because its on an external HDD and there fore not indexed
6.I have tried to copy the folder to the desktop but still shows empty....
    7. I have tried to "organise" my library, still no change.
    What the..xxx..is happening..?
From what I can gather, the files are actually there but not visible through the finder window (even though the folder appears to be 0 bytes).
The problem being that I can't locate my missing files because I cant see them any more......
Am I missing something (like show hidden folder on a Mac) or has it got to do with anything else...? How can I fix it..? I have found posts that relate to windows users forced their W7 to show hidden folders but nothing yet on Mac.....
    Help.
    //Fred

I was lucky to be able to use a PC, that after trying numerous times actually read the external hdd, I quickly copied all files over to a backup hdd and recovered all files. After that I ended up in contact with Western Digital about the incident and they recommended to completely erase (7-pass erase) of the hdd, which ended up taking over 5 days to do. They gave me no reason as to "Why" it would have happened but if I erase and reformatted of the hdd and the problem reoccurred they recommended to get the unit replaced.
I was lucky to recover all my files.....keep trying on different computers if you can, and copy what you can get hold of. The 7-pass erase will delete pretty much every trace of information on the hdd with no chance of recovery.
So far since the incident its been running ok but I not longer trust the hdd to be stable. Not a simple nor quick process / solution I'm afraid.
    Good luck!
Once you have recovered your files (or as many as you can get hold of) and ready to erase the hdd:
(THIS WILL ERASE ALL YOUR DATA, MAKE SURE YOU HAVE A BACKUP BEFORE PROCEEDING)
Connect the drive directly to the Mac, open Disk Utility.
Select the drive and click on the "Erase" tab Select the "7-times zeros" to completely erase the drive.
Once the erase have completed format the drive to your selection.

  • Font missing issues

After seemingly resolving 'font missing' message when opening a document, the font is still highlighted in pale pink and I can't seem to get rid of it. Can anyone help?

Strangely enough, I seem to have resolved the issue myself, by removing the fonts from Font Book. Your last reply popped up as I was removing them, and I was going to reload them to font book, however when I went to inDesign to open the document and get you some screenshots, the issue seemed to have resolved itself, leaving me baffled, as I thought I had to have fonts installed in Font Book to be able to use them?
I do have a secondary issue with another font, Knockout, though. I have added this to Font Book, for use in the same document (I had no issues with this one going missing though), but when I view it in Font Book, it appears as shown below? Do you know why?

  • Package folder not fully removed from DP

Wanna ask, i have removed the package from my DP by selecting removed button from the package properties. But when i did a manual search on my DP, i found out that that the package folder is still present in the DP as shown below. But from the console, the

Question is, how do i make sure that these folder are fully being deleted from my DP HD when i select removed button from the package properties? Do i need to manually delete these folders then? Or is my step in removing the package from DP is wrong? Need
    you guys advice.

Yes, I know this is an old post, but I’m trying to clean them up. Did you solve this problem, if so what was the solution?

  • Symbol font missing problem

I have a Visio design containing symbols from Symbols font (in Windows) converted to PDF and then imported in the Illustrator CS 6. It says the symbol font missing and substitued with 'Myriad Pro', and those symbols are shown as crossed ('X'). As suggested in some posts, I tried to replace this font with <Symbol> font  (tried others as well) using 'Find Font', but it didn't replace. Can some one tell me a working solution, preferably the solution to the missing symbol font problem itself, if not a way to replace.
    Thanks a lot in advance.
    Raj

Placing seems to work even without flattening, but as you said cannot edit text anymore.
Regarding the other solution, that is where my problem was. I tried to assign the correct font  (and with some other fonts too just to check) to the text objects, but Illustrator doesn't seem to accept as the font remains the same 'Myriad Pro' all the time! It is infact what 'Find Font' does for font replacemet, if I understood correctly, but alas this too doesn't work.
Until there is no better solution, I can at least use the edit restricted place method for now! Thanks Monika for that.

  • IDCS Workflow: save the original file or the packaged folder?

I am using IDCS on Windows XP Professional Ver. 2002 Service Pack 3.
I am wondering if after I have packaged a file, should I delete the original file or the packaged folder? I work on a network so space is limited, so I need to save my linked graphics in an area accessible to others (who don't have InDesign). So basically I have the location of the graphics saved, the original file linked to the original graphics and the packaged folder that has copies of the original graphic files. I am fairly new to InDesign and I want to keep my files organized.
    Thanks.

The very safest step would be to burn the package to disk and file it, then delete the package folder from the server.
That way you don't have lots of duplicated images that may or may not be in sync, and you have a backup copy of the file as it existed, along with links as they were, if you need them.
