Fonts not available in IDCC2014, with Suitcase Fusion 5 or 6

I have opened and worked a InDesign CC2014 doc. Everything is fine. The next day I attempt to open the doc again with the same fonts installed and they come up missing. I try several Macs, (different OSs), different versions of Suitcase Fusion including the latest and I get the same issue. Cleared font cache, restarted, etc to no avail. Any ideas? This has happened over the years occasionally, and has seemed to happen recently on a few occasions.
Thanks

That's a large part of the problem. You have more than one font manager on your Mac. If you're not using Font Book, delete it. Then you need to reset its orphaned database so OS X stops trying to control which fonts are, or aren't active according to that data.
To remove Font Book from the hard drive, follow these steps:
1) Open Font Book, and then its preferences. Uncheck the box for "Alert me if system fonts change". Close the preferences and shut down Font Book. Put the Font Book application in the trash and delete it.
2) Restart your Mac and immediately hold down the Shift key when you hear the startup chime to boot into Safe Mode. Keep holding it until OS X asks you to log in (you will get this screen on a Safe Mode boot even if your Mac is set to automatically log in). Let the Mac finish booting to the desktop and then restart normally.
This will reset Font Book's database and clear the cache files in your user account. The main goal in this step is to remove the orphaned Font Book database from the hard drive. With the Font Book application no longer on the hard drive, a new one cannot be created. Which is what we want.
3) Close all running applications. From an administrator account, open the Terminal app and enter the following command. You can also copy/paste it from here into the Terminal window:
sudo atsutil databases -remove
This removes all font cache files. Both for the system and all user font cache files. After running the command, close Terminal and immediately restart your Mac.

CS3 Postscript fonts not visible when Installed with Suitcase 11.0 on Vista Ultimate 64bit.
Truetype and Opentype work fine. I have searched through all the forums here multiple times, but not found a solution. The only workaround I found was to manually put the font files in c:/ProgramFiles(x86)/CommonFiles/Adobe/Fonts.
When I put any font files in that folder, they show up in CS3 for use, but not in windows apps. I thought I would make a permanent work around by placing all of my uninstalled font files in that folder, then use suitcase to install them from there. That didn't work because EVERY font in that folder is available to CS3 and turned on. Do they get installed when you put them in there?? It didn't seem like they were installed, and windows apps didn't see them.
These are workarounds anyway. My main goal is to have suitcase work so I can organize my fonts efficiently. Extensis blames the font and CS3. I have read that there are adobe issues with other font management software as well as suitcase. Any help would be appreciated.

Got mine FIXED here is what i did:
    Windows 7 64bit SP1, CS 5
Postscript fonts (comprising of *.pfb + *.pfm files) did not show up in any CS5 app, but showed OK in Word, Excel, Notepad etc.
Tried  activating through Suitcase Fusion 2 and also through FontExpert 2009 -  but neither of them made the fonts visible in CS5 apps
    1) open Start Menu/Control Panel/Fonts
    2) on the sidebar there is "Font settings" item
    3) set the settings as i did
[    ]  Hide fonts based on language settings
[ x ]  Allow fonts to be installed using a shortcut (advanced)
    FIXED mine,
now i can use Suitcase Fusion 2 to install any PFB/PFM fonts without any problems...
PLEASE IF THIS WORKED FOR YOU TOO, LEAVE A MESSAGE HERE SO OTHERS KNOW IF THIS FIX IS 100% WORKING

  • Font not available in Photoshop CS6 or Illustrator CS6 (Mac)

I have installed the Frutiger font family in the font library. It appears in the drop-down menu in InDesign, but not Photoshop or Illustrator. How can I make the font available in these programs?

It’s a ttf file – Frutiger. I’ve managed to get it into InDesign, but not Photoshop or Illustrator. Always seem to have problems with this font!

  • CS4 with Suitcase Fusion

Considering purchasing CS4. Am using OSX 10.4.1 with Suitcase Fusion 12.1.6.
Any font issues with CS4 (especially InDesign & Illustrator).

The only issue I am aware of is how thoroughly crappy Suitcase has been for years. The new version of Fusion might be non-crappy, but I'd bet against that. My biggest issue with SF lately is constant conflict errors when I activate Helvetica Neue T1, since the dfont version is installed in the OS. I hope to convince the keepers of the purse to upgrade out fonts to OTF, which will probably solve the problem.
If you can, I suggest using Linotype Font Explorer. Its' free, much easier to use than Suitcase, has excellent preview features, and the auto-activation is tops.

When I save a photo from iMessage to my camera role, how come the saved photo is not available to edit with iPhoto on my iPhone?

I tapped a photo in Messages to vie it full screen.
Tapped the Share icon and saved it to my camera roll.
Opened iPhoto for iOS and my image library updated. After the update I could see the image in my camera roll. I selected the amera roll, then tapped the image I had copied from Messages. I was able to edit the photo with no problem.
Did you follow this same procedure or ry to copy the little thumbnail photo from Messages?

  • Opening a legacy file in CC2014, the fonts in the file (which are loaded and accessible with Suitcase Fusion 6), won't display. I get the [Jensen text] font name indicating a missing font file. YET, when I make a new file, the fonts are available. Any ide

Okay, that was a long title. Sorry about that.
Longer version now. The font Janson Text is an old Type 1 Postscript font. If I make a new document in InDesign CC2014, this font is completely available to me. HOWEVER, if I open a legacy file that uses this same font, it shows up with the usual pink highlighting.
I know the font is available to InDesign, because I made a new test document and set type with it.
If I try using the Type > Find Font.. option to replace the 'missing' typefaces, InDesign won't let me, not recognizing the font that I just used in the new test document.
I just tried exporting the defective file as an IDML file, then opening the IDML file. The font is now working properly.
This is a real problem, as the file I'm trying to open is a book that we need to reprint. I now have to go through it page by page to see if any linebreaks have changed.
    WHAT CAUSES THIS, please?

There is one way its getting fixed. Once I update my Adobe Illustrator CC to Adobe Illustrator CC 2014 it is further allowing me to go into the system folder and allocate the font to the file so that it can replace it. My only concern now is that our MAC partners who will receive these files back from us have Adobe CS6. We will down save it to CS6 but I hope they won't experience any font issues because of us using CC 2014? Any light you can shed on this?

  • HELP!  -  Fonts not available after migration to Leopard

My company recently upgraded my Mac from a PowerPC G5 tower - which worked perfectly, to a MacBook Pro Intel Core Duo - so I would be able to work from home. I work in publishing and use pre-set templates and fonts within QuarkXPress. The most important fonts are the ones needed to build our publications, but ever since I've migrated all of my files, fonts, settings, etc. from the PPC to the Intel machine, those (and other) fonts don't work. They don't even show up in the list of available fonts.
We use FontAgent Pro, and I've tried updating that. I've tried demos of other font managers as well as the built in Font Book software. I've installed and run Font Finagler and cleared out all font caches. I've even tried installing those fonts directly into the "/Library/Fonts" folder and the "/System/Library/Fonts" folder and nothing works well. The only one that PARTIALLY worked was Suitcase Fusion, but it didn't recognize all of the fonts - and the ones it did recognize, it changed their names: i.e. "Nimrod MT Bd" became "Nimrod MT-Bold" resulting in the missing fonts message in QuarkXPress.
System: MacBook Pro, 2.2GHz, 2GB RAM, Leopard version 10.5.1, QuarkXPress, FontAgent Pro
Typfaces not working: Nimrod MT, Nimrod MT Bd, Nimrod MT It, Myriad MM (numerous versions)
    Anyone have any ideas?
    Thanx in advance,
    Darryl

    Hi Darryl,
From the sounds of it, you have the outline portion of some Type 1 PostScript fonts, but don't have the whole font. Type 1 PostScript fonts are a set. One file is a suitcase containing all of the low res bitmap screen fonts. The rest are the outline printer fonts. As an example, here's Adobe Garamond.
    Adobe Garamond
    AGarBol
    AGarBolIta
    AGarIta
    AGarReg
    AGarSem
    AGarSemIta
The first file which I highlighted in green is the font suitcase of bitmap screen fonts. The rest are the outline printer fonts.
    1) The files for a Type 1 PostScript font must have both the screen and printer fonts for a given set in order to work. They also must be in the same folder.
    2) The suitcase of bitmap fonts will work alone, but output will be terrible since the system will print the fonts using the 72 dpi screen fonts in the suitcase if the outline portions are missing.
    3) Having only the outline fonts will not work. You will get exactly what you are having problems with. You can see the fonts, but Font Book won't load them. That's not a problem with Font Book itself. No font manager will load outline fonts without the matching suitcase of screen fonts present.
It also may be how you copied them. If the fonts were active on the source Mac and you tried to copy them across a network or via FireWire, that usually doesn't work. Copy them first to a new folder on the desktop of the Mac the fonts reside on. Then copy the desktop copies to your MacBook Pro.

  • Why are some fonts not available?

I have found that there are fonts in HD>Library>Fonts that are not showing up in any Collection in Font Book and are not available in apps that I'm working with. Font Book Help does not address this problem.
    Some help with this, please?
    Peter

What types of fonts are they? If they're Type 1 PostScript, this may be the problem.
Font Book can read PostScript fonts. But from the sounds of it, you don't have the whole font. Type 1 PostScript fonts are a set. One file is a suitcase containing all of the low res bitmap screen fonts. The rest are the outline printer fonts. As an example, here's Adobe Garamond.

  • Perfectly good fonts "Not Available"

Has someone figured out the font incompatibility issues Snow Leopard seems to have with a lot of fonts that were working just fine under Leopard?
I have a great many fonts that I want to be able to use, but since my upgrade to 10.6, they are "Not Available" and refuse to be activated.
What do I have to do to get them working again?

All but one somewhat small font issue has been resolved since 10.6.3. There are two things that come to mind.
Reset Font Book. If it's database is damaged, a very common symptom of that is not being able to activate and/or deactivate fonts. Do that by restarting in Safe Mode (restart and hold down the Shift key), then restart normally. After that, all installed fonts will be active, regardless of their state beforehand. Any font sets you've created will be gone.
Or if your problem centers around Type 1 PostScript fonts:
Type 1 PostScript fonts are a set. One file is a suitcase containing all of the low res bitmap screen fonts. The rest are the outline printer fonts. As an example, here's Adobe Garamond.
    Adobe Garamond
    AGarBol

    3) Having only the outline fonts will not work. You will get exactly what you are having problems with. You can see the fonts, but they will not load. That's not a problem with Font Book, Suitcase or other font manager. None of them, nor the system itself will load outline fonts from a Type 1 PostScript font without the matching suitcase of screen fonts present.

  • In Pages 5.2, some fonts "not available", yet present in Font Book and working in other apps

Using Pages 5.2, I open a document created in a previous version, and I get error messages about certain fonts within a font family being "not available" in OS X.  However, these supposedly unavailable fonts are present in Font Book and work just fine in all other apps running on OS X.  In fact, I still have the older version of Pages on my system, and it still finds the fonts without issue.  The specific fonts troubling me at the moment are Myriad Pro Semibold It and Myriad Pro Cond.  Pages 5.2 replaces them with Helvetica.  I have wasted hours of time trying to resolve this problem, and I am at a total loss.  What can I do?

Like so many other thing is is probably gone. Why not use Pages 09 that has about 100 features more than Pages 5. If you haven't deleted it it should still be in Applications/iWork 09 folder.

  • Fonts Not Available in Photoshop CS3 (Windows 7)?

    Hello,
My desktop computer crashed yesterday and I had to run out last night and pick up a new unit as I'm trying to meet a number of deadlines (and not having much luck getting the work done in my laptop).
The new computer uses Windows 7 as the Operating System.  It has already presented a ton of headaches... I've already spent in excess of ten hours trying to reinstall hardware and dealing with the various quirks that arise.
The latest of these issues is that I cannot seem to access some fonts from Photoshop CS3.  I'm having the same issue, to a lesser extent, in Illustrator 10.
For instance, after downloading the Helvetica and Helvetica Neue families in Windows 7, they do not appear in the Type menu in Photoshop.  There are a ton of useless pre-installed fonts there, but not the ones I installed.  If I try to access them from Illustrator, it displays only one weight of each typeface (for instance, it displays Helvetica Neue 65 but omits 55, 75, 95, etc....).
The issue does not occur for all fonts.  For instance, I installed AvantGarde and it displays just fine.  In that instance, the fonts were TrueType whereas the Helvetica font files are Type 1 font files.
Can anyone help?  I've already lost a day-and-a-half of work, and can't afford to spend much more time screwing around with this nonsense.

    Bill,
Thanks for your thoughtul and thorough reply.
To clarify, I do have a copy of ATM, but just have not installed it on my XP computer or this new one.  It is on my Illustrator 10 install disk.  Not sure if it will work on Windows 7, as Illustrator 10 would not run on the new computer until I set the compatibility to work with Vista and earlier.  I suppose that I could install it and see if it works.  Might be worth a shot.
I will check out the software titles you referenced.
With regard to font installation on Windows 7, there are three techniques as far as I can tell.  They are:
    1) Drag and drop method: Works the same as it always has.  Simply drag the typefaces into the Fonts folder or Control Panel > Fonts.
    2) You can navigate to where a font file is located (the desktop, for instance) and then right-click on it and choose "Install."  This is what I referred to previously, and I tried it after drag-and-drop did not work.
    3) For the third method (according to Windows 7 documentation I found online at http://social.answers.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/w7desktop/thread/324ecdc6-8574-4527-8099- efc430bf550f), you are supposed to be able to go into the Control Panel > Fonts, press ALT (to display the menu) and then choose File > Install New Font.  You would then be prompted to navigate to the typeface you want to install.  However, this option is not available on my computer.  When I tried it, I can access the File menu, but "Install New Font" is not listed on the dropdown.

  • Loaded fonts not available to apps

Running 10.6.8, using Font Agent Pro, have not had problem for past year and a half, and all of a sudden yesterday, fonts not recognized by apps. Using Quark, versions 6 - 9, Adobe Creative Suites CS3 - CS6, Word, Excel, etc. I have loaded fonts through Fontbook instead of using Font Agent Pro, I have removed caches with terminal, ran Repair Disk Permissions, Shutdown, boot in Safe Mode, everything I can think of. In Fontbook, fonts display correctly but a lot of them are not available in other Apps. For instance, Arial & Arial Bold not available, but Italic & Bold Italic are fine. I work at a commercial printer and this is killing me!

Did you repair permissions and restarted your computer after the font installatons?

  • Fonts not available when offline

I am a creative cloud subscriber however when I'm not on the internet and trying to work I get an error that fonts are not available since I'm not connected to the creative cloud at that time. Is this bug and if so how do I resolve it?

Actually, I have found that when you disconnect form the Internet, Creative Cloud fonts become unavailable. Today, for example, I was working at my office, logged in to CC, and using Photoshop with some CC fonts. I then closed my laptop (did not log out of anything), and went to a cafe. When I opened the laptop, I was exactly where I had left off... but when I started Photoshop this time, the fonts I was using were unavailable. This does not always happen.
Now, another problem I have with CC fonts is that when I travel on business, I usually "shut down" my laptop. Then when I'm on the plane, I'll turn the laptop on and get back to work... and none of the CC fonts are available.
Overall, this is an unworkable solution for me. I can't have my designs/documents broken ever time I open them. The most embarrasing was a conference, where the document I opened up couldn't use its CC fonts and the entire presentation layout was a complete mess.
Bottom line: If you need the fonts reliably at any time (not just occasional print copy work), don't use CC fonts. They are not going to be available to you reliably.
I wish Adobe would fix this. They make it possible for me to use Photoshop for 30 days without being connected to the Internet. Why can't they do this with fonts too?

  • CC 2014.2 Crashes at file startup with Suitcase Fusion

Even with workaround of opening the file manually within Photoshop, CC 2014.2 continues to crash. The only way I've gotten around the issue is to manually activate my fonts then open the document. Is Adobe aware that the workaround is broken?

Chris, either way, CC 2014.2 is crashing regardless of Suitcase Fusion. Isn't it a known issue? Work around isn't working. Photoshop CC 2014.2 crashes when opening a file with missing fonts

  • Yet another "font not available" question

    Hello,
First, I'm using FM 8.1.3 on Windows (XP). So I don't have the Font Pod or any of that other FM 10 good stuff.
I'm trying to open a chapter in a book that contains both English and Simplified Chinese text. The error I keep getting says that "MS Mincho" is not available, and a Kazuka Gothic font is being substituted. I click OK and the file opens. I save and close the file. Then I try to open it again and the error is still there. All of the chapters in the book have the same problem.
I saved one of the chapters as a .mif and opened that as a text file. I searched for "Mincho", and it wasn't there. I searched for "FFamily" in the file and didn't find anything similar to Mincho in any of the references. There were many entries but no unfamiliar fonts being referenced.
I also tried the trick of opening all the files, accepting the substitution for each, and then trying to update the book. That doesn't seem to work. The update is finished much too quickly. Something flashes by really quickly in the status bar of the book file - I thought I saw titles of a couple of the chapters (different title each time I ran the update), but (1) the book file does not have a new time stamp, even if I do something that should trigger a change to the book file, eg, change the order of a couple of chapters in the book file, and (2) there's no error message. I don't think it actually did an update. (When I try to update the book with all the chapter files closed, I'm still getting the "could not open file because of missing font" errors.)
Are there any other things I might try?
    Thanks,
    Joyce

    Joyce,
You have your preferences set to Remember missing fonts. When you open a file with missing fonts, FrameMaker warns you; but when you click OK, it opens the file with the substituted font just to display the document. FrameMaker does NOT substitute the font permanently, just for the current display. If you make a change and save the file, you are saving any content changes but not the font substitution.
If you are happy with the substituted font, you can open the preferences and uncheck Remember missing fonts. Then when you open the file, FrameMaker's response is as before; however, when you save the file, the font substitution is saved in the file.
You can then turn Remember missing fonts back on, if you want. The purpose of this feature is to allow you or others to edit the document without actually having the font on your system but retain the font information in the file.
