Fonts not displaying correctly on one computer

This issue applies to the past couple versions of FF. I am currently on 35.0.1 on a Windows 7 computer. I have similar configurations on several other Windows 7 computers and have not experienced this issue.
Basically the issue as that fonts on certain pages either do not display at all, or may just look like a long underscored ( __________ ).
I have experienced this issue on a number of different sites, so it's not site specific. The attached screenshot of the Facebook login screen is a perfect example of what I mean.
I have also attached a screen shot from another site where the words of a text menu just show ups as a line. The menu is at the top right of the image (highlighted and circled).
I have toggled the hardware acceleration option based on other suggestions and it does not resolve the issue.

You can try to disable OMTC and leave hardware acceleration in Firefox enabled.
*about:config page: layers.offmainthreadcomposition.enabled = false
You can open the about:config page via the location/address bar.
You can accept the warning and click "I'll be careful" to continue.
*http://kb.mozillazine.org/about:config
You can try to disable hardware acceleration in Firefox.
*Tools > Options > Advanced > General > Browsing: "Use hardware acceleration when available"
You need to close and restart Firefox after toggling this setting.

• Google fonts not displaying correctly since updating to Firefox 31.0

Since updating to Firefox 31.0, the vast majority of Google / web fonts are not displaying correctly, including icons that are being replaced with random characters. When I view the Google web fonts page, only a few display correctly, the rest just default to a sans-serif font.
- I've tried running in safe mode with no add-ons enabled.
- I've tried disabling all add-ons then re-enabling one by one.
- I've checked the tickbox in the font settings for 'Allow pages to use their own fonts' is ticked
Any help appreciated, it's got quite frustrating now.
Thanks, Greg

You can do a font test to see if you can identify corrupted font(s).

You can try different default fonts and temporarily disable website fonts to test the selected default font.
*Tools > Options > Content : Fonts & Colors > Advanced

You can check for problems with preferences.
You can check the gfx.downloadable_fonts.enabled pref on the about:config page and make sure that it is set to true (if necessary double-click the line to toggle its value).
Delete a possible user.js file and numbered prefs-##.js files and rename (or delete) the prefs.js file to reset all prefs to the default value including prefs set via user.js and prefs that are no longer supported in the current Firefox release.

Create a new profile as a test to check if your current profile is causing the problem.
See "Creating a profile":

• Flash Animation: Font Not Displaying Correctly

Hi all!
I am having a problem with a Flash animation in Captivate that seems like it should be an easy fix, but I can't seem to figure it out.
I have a very simple Flash animation that I developed in CS5. It previews in Flash perfectly, play correctly in Flash Player, but when I insert it into Captivate 4 the fonts do not display correctly. Capital letters are missing as well as other letters.
It's not a matter of AS2 vs. AS3 as I have already tested that. It also is not a frame rate or version issue as I have confirmed they are the same rates and the same version.
Can anyone shed any light? Anyone else had this same problem? Any guidance or suggestions would be much appreciated.
Thanks!
Daniel

Did you embed your fonts into the flash animation? Make sure all characters necessary are embedded.

• Korean font not displaying correctly. Internationalization Issue

Hello,
I'm not sure if this is an internationalization issue but I have an Adobe Air project that isn't displaying Korean correctly. I basically have created a MovieClip in Flash CC with a textfield child. When this movieclip is instanced in Air, it's text is dynamically assigned from a web service. The font used works fine except for Korean so we had to switch fonts when using Korean text. This is where things get interesting. If I try to programmatically change the textformat.font to use the Korean font, the font switches but just the Korean characters aren't supported. However if I set the textfield's font to the Korean one in Flash CC, everything displays fine. The font is embedding the same in both instances and is including 'All' characters.
I'm not sure if this is a bug or if I have to add a flag for Korean support somewheres in the build settings. I've created work around for now which has two textfields, one with the font we need and one for korean only. As the data from the webservice is parsed it detects for Korean characters in the string and if it finds them it makes sure the Korean textfield is used. Kind of a dirty way to do it but it doesn't seem to like changing the font family around.
Anyone else notice this?

It's the latest AIR 15 SDK with the Flex framework.swc and framework_fb.swf added for binding support
I overwrote the code since it was only a couple lines but here's what I was doing for the way that broke
var tf : TextFormate = this._sknPageShield.pageName.getTextFormat();
tf.font = "Arial Unicode MS";
this._sknPageShield.pageName.setTextFormat(tf);
The font changes because english characters showed up, however even though I click embed all fonts, korean characters do not display. I have to set the font on the textfield using the Flash CC tools and it works fine.

• Fonts not displaying correctly in Muse, working fine on upload. HELP! Working on Muse CC 2014, Mac OSX 10.9.4

Hello!
In Muse, my fonts are displaying incorrectly, when uploaded the fonts are correct. I am guessing this is a system issue. First time I have had this problem since making the jump to CC 2014 and it is making designing painful . I've updated everything, dumped and reinstalled the web fonts, restarted, cleared PRAM and scratched my head a bunch. I also tried to find a font cache to dump but could not locate it...any thoughts would be greatly appreciated. Thanks Musers! - Andrew

• Symbol font not displayed correctly in WebHelp output

I have TCS 2. I have a character format that uses the Symbol font. It displays correctly in FM and in the RH Design Editor. But in the WebHelp output, the Symbol font displays as Arial. What did I do wrong?

Hi,
What browser are you using? Most probably, your browser does not support the symbol font out of the box and therefore defaults back to Arial. My guess is that it will work on IE, but not on other browsers. This is because Symbol isn't a default web font.
To overcome this, you must use the @font-face rule in your css and provide the font file as a baggage file in your project. For more info on @font-face, see: http://www.font-face.com/.

I think you have bitmapped fonts disabled in fontconfig. To enable them, do as root:
rm /etc/fonts/conf.d/70-no-bitmaps.conf
ln -s /etc/fonts/conf.avail/70-yes-bitmaps.conf /etc/fonts/conf.d/70-yes-bitmaps.conf

• PC static font not displaying correctly on Mac?

Hi,
I have a PC fiash file with static body text that is New Gothic font. The published swf looks great on the PC, though when testing on Mac, none of the text appears. I thought that with static text fields, the font is automatically embedded?
Can anyone offers any suggestions as to how I can get the font to display properly on a Mac?
Thanks,
Dan

Well there are probably people that know better than me. But I have a rule of not using any fonts that aren't standard fonts everywhere. (Arial, Courier New, and Times New Roman) If you don't already know, fonts are loaded on the local computer, (the user's computer) if they don't have the specific font you selected from all the fonts loaded on your computer, they won't see the work you did in the format you did it in, if at all.
So make your titles sexy and cool and break those apart so they look exactly how you want them, but unfortunately if your project is intended for the world wide web, you have to abide by web standards to ensure the majority of users can view it and this especially applies to text.
Hope this answers your question. I don't know if I'm telling you stuff you already know here, but like I said, others may know better.

• Fonts not displayed correctly in Live View Dreamweaver CS4

I have a site that uses the Nuptial Script font. Everything is displayed correctly in Design View and in IE and FireFox.
But LiveView does not display the font correctly; in fact, the text with Nuptial Script is not readable in LIveView. If I change the font from Nuptial Script to Arial (yuck) as a test, LiveVIew displays the pages correctly. Other fonts like Vivaldi work in LIveVIew. Nuptial Script does not work in LIveVIew.

lilbear34 wrote:

This is display correctly for you in any browser because you have the font installed on your system. As far as I know, I don't have that script, so your page would not render as intended if I viewed it in either FFox or IE.
You need to set up a font-family when defining a non-web-safe font, so that if someone doesn't have your first choice of font, they'll be able to see it in another of your choosing (but needs to be web-safe).

• Fonts not displaying correctly in Mail & Safari since updating to 10.4.5

On some of my downloaded email and some websites the fonts are displaying wrong! What's weird as I figured out that the font is called Brady Bunch which I don't even seem to have on my system or if I do I can't find it.
I figured out it was Brady Bunch by copy/pasting it into TextEdit and then went to Format > Show Fonts. It doesn't seem to effect Firefox browser.
My Apple mail (v2.0.5) preferences > Fonts & Colors > are all Helvetia. Safari (v2.0.3) Preferences > Appearance are Times 14 and Courier 12.
It looks really unprofessional replying to an email and the text I'm replying to is in Brady Bunch.
Can anyone help?

• [SOLVED] TTY terminal font not displaying correctly

Solved, see Edit 2 for solution.
Begin original post:
Hi everyone,
When I login to any TTY console on my system (i.e. by pressing Ctrl+Alt+F2 and loging with my user name and password), the [user@hostname ~]$ is all gibberish; it looks something like this:
┌─[\[\e[31;1m\]\u@\[\e[32;1m\]\H\[\033[1;37m\]] \n\[\033[1;37m\]└─[\[\033[0;36m\]\w\[\033[1;37m\ \[\e[0m\]
Note: The user name and password prompts display correctly, as well as any commands that I enter (such as pacman -Syu), just the text preceding where I enter commands in messed up. Also, graphical terminal emulators such as xfce4-terminal do not have this issue.
I have researched this for a while, and I found a Post that outlines the same issue I am having. Unfortunately, the solution is for init.d and rc scripts, so it obviously will not work with Systemd.
Also, no other distro has this problem on my system, even a clean install of Arch works properly. This leads me to believe that a config file is messed up somewhere.
Does anybody know how to translate the above fix to a Systemd solution so I do not have to deal with wonky virtual consoles?
Thanks
-venividivici24
Edit: I just tried logging in as root, and it worked fine, everything was normal, so maybe it is some configuration file for my user specifically.
Edit 2: I fixed it. The problem happened to be in my ~/.profile config file. A while ago, I had bashish installed, but have since removed it. It left some settings in .profile that caused the console to act the way described above.
All I did to fix this was to change this:
# Termcap is outdated, old, and crusty, kill it.
unset TERMCAP
# Man is much better than us at figuring this out
unset MANPATH
BASHISHDIR="/usr/local/share/bashish" ## line added by bashish
TTY=`tty 2>/dev/null` && if test "x$BASHISHDIR" != x;then ## line added by bashish
test "$BASHISH_OLDPATH"||BASHISH_OLDPATH="$PATH" ## line added by bashish
PATH="$HOME/.bashish/launcher:$BASHISHDIR/lib:$BASHISH_OLDPATH" ## line added by bashish
BASHSISH_CP=437 ## line added by bashish
EST_TERM="$TERM" _bashish_utfcheck && BASHISH_CP=utf8 ## line added by bashish
ENV="$HOME/.profile" ## line added by bashish
export BASHISH_CP BASHISH_OLDPATH TTY ENV ## line added by bashish
. "$BASHISHDIR/main/prompt/sh/init" ## line added by bashish
fi ## line added by bashish
to this (I commented out the commands):
# Termcap is outdated, old, and crusty, kill it.
#unset TERMCAP
# Man is much better than us at figuring this out
#unset MANPATH
#BASHISHDIR="/usr/local/share/bashish" ## line added by bashish
#TTY=`tty 2>/dev/null` && if test "x$BASHISHDIR" != x;then ## line added by bashish
#test "$BASHISH_OLDPATH"||BASHISH_OLDPATH="$PATH" ## line added by bashish
#PATH="$HOME/.bashish/launcher:$BASHISHDIR/lib:$BASHISH_OLDPATH" ## line added by bashish
#BASHSISH_CP=437 ## line added by bashish
#EST_TERM="$TERM" _bashish_utfcheck && BASHISH_CP=utf8 ## line added by bashish
#ENV="$HOME/.profile" ## line added by bashish
#export BASHISH_CP BASHISH_OLDPATH TTY ENV ## line added by bashish
#. "$BASHISHDIR/main/prompt/sh/init" ## line added by bashish

• Embedded fonts not displaying Correctly

I have exported a 100+ page document from InDesign CS5.5 All fonts not in the system fonts are displaying as Minion Pro.
The fonts are listed as embedded (subset) and the fonts allow for embedding.

The incorrect display seen in Reader 8.3 and AA Pro 9.4.7
I have toggled Use Local Fonts without change.

I'm not doing anything to scale the movieClip. I press CMD and enter and thats what comes out. When I CMD + I zoom in and thats the second picture.
Regarding font embedding, I've enabled linkage and created a new class of it in my AS3 class file. Is there anything else I should do?
Oh..may be worth mentioning, all the text is actually Label components.

• InDesign CS5.5 fonts not displaying correctly when applying styles

Hi there,
My problem is this - I've set up character and paragraph styles in a document. Yesterday everything in the document was working as expected. Today I open the file and some of the fonts are displaying incorrectly ie instead of a selection of type being bold (where a character style has been applyed) the whole paragraph is now bold and doesn't respond to having the character style removed.
There are no error messages, the program loads, doesn't crash, did go slow but I resaved all the linked files and it moved along at it normal speed - it is quite a complicated document. Other files seem to behave, so I thought it might be a corrupt file. However when I tried to save to IDML the process was interminable, so I cancelled it (tried this several times and with a simplified file - removed all the images).
I've cleaned out the font caches.
I  trashed the program preferences.
Hope somebody out there has a idea.
Thanks

Most likely reasons for what you are seeing is the paragraph has the bold style assigned to the whole thing as a character style (maybe nested without a valid end trigger?), or the basic character attibutes of the paragraph style were changed to bold. Slightly less likely is that you managed to apply Bold to the whole paragraph as a local override (which owuld show up as a + sign next to the paragraph style name).

• Why are TypeKit fonts not displaying correctly in Pages (iWork)?

I have just subscribed to TypeKit and am experiencing highly peculiar behavior from the two fonts I’m using in Pages (iWork): Basically, fonts in my document don’t respond appropriately to requested changes in style. For example, if I increase the point size by one point using the the formatting commands built into Pages, the font drops a point size. I’ve had the same experience using the kerning command, where the kerning decreases when I have set it to increase. (So far, the only fonts I’ve been using have been Futura PT and Proxima Nova.)
Look at the example in the screenshot: “FEATURED EXPERT” on the top line shows in Pages as being 24pt Futura PT Book. However, “SOLO,” a few lines down, which is definitely displaying as smaller, shows as 25pt Futura PT
In a potentially related issue, when I reopened this same document today, text boxes were suddenly too small for the text (again in Futura PT and Proxima Nova). It was as though Pages was suddenly reading those two fonts differently.
I have had no issues with other (non-TypeKit) fonts in the same document.
Anyone else experiencing anything similar? Any suggested fixes? I'm reluctant to unsync/resync the two affected fonts (the only ones I have sync'd to date) because I don't want to wreck the document!

Thanks, Christopher. After I posted my original question, I did come to realize that it was Helvetica not Future PT showing. Here’s what happened, and here’s why I still need some guidance…
The document dropped Future PT because when my wifi signal dropped, the Creative Cloud app displayed this error symbol (see graphic) in my menu bar.
At that point, my computer could no longer access my TypeKit fonts and the document reverted to the system's Helvetica default.
This was not an isolated incident.
If I turn wifi off manually, there is no issue and CC continues to operate in the background as it should, with TypeKit fonts still available.
However, if the wifi drops out on its own, I get the above error symbol and I then lose access to my TypeKit fonts. Very rarely, the CC app will self-correct when the signal is restored. More often than not, I must quit the CC app and relaunch it in order to get things back to normal.
This doesn’t strike me as normal behavior Have you ever encountered anything like it? Do you know of a fix that will allow the CC app to self-correct when the wifi signal is restored?
Any assistance will be appreciated!
Thanks!
P.S. TypeKit troubleshooting doesn’t address this particular issue.
