Fonts not displaying properly in PDFs in Preview

When I open a PDF in Preview, fonts are either substituted, or the text doesn't display at all.
PDFs display properly in Adobe Acrobat, however.
I've tried deleting Preview's preferences, to no avail. Any clues?

This is a constant problem for us too (on our new Leopard only machines), any program that uses the OS to display PDFs will keep dropping type.
This means the finder, preview, keynote and mail applications. Our placed PDFs in keynote slides don't show type. In finder windows, the type in pdfs (the icon) is sporadic at best, in mail and entourage the type on pdfs in email is also sporadic. Preview itself is completely hot or miss. But open the same pdf in acrobat and viola, perfect.
Clearing the font caches and restarting is only a temporary fix.
This is an inexcusable bug that makes doing professional design work (the sole reason we have macs) extremely difficult. I wish we had not upgraded any of our computers.

  • Fonts not displaying properly in Creative Cloud files

I just noticed that fonts are not displaying properly in my Creative Cloud files.  The strange thing is, they continue to display correctly in files I uploaded prior to release - it's just in files I upload now that the fonts are reverting to some generic display font.
For reference, here is a file uploaded before release:
    https://creative.adobe.com/file/7ba1e1dc-993e-4f85-bf2d-7ec4e099929e
And here is the same file uploaded just now:
    https://creative.adobe.com/file/82f1ed16-8f8c-45f5-9127-791f08ad9ec9
The display problem also applies to downloads of the newer file as a JPG, PNG or PDF, although the fonts are still present in the downloaded original file.  With the older uploaded file, download as PDF is not available (presumably because this was a release feature), but download as JPG and PNG outputs a file with the correct fonts intact.
This is a serious problem, because it makes previews inaccurate as well as making the download feature almost useless.  Was it perhaps an unintended side-effect of turning on download as PDF?

On a related topic, here's another Illustrator file with fonts displaying incorrectly, but this time it also has problems with the download links - the options for PNG, JPG and PDF do not appear at all.
    https://creative.adobe.com/file/2d6d788d-01e4-488d-90b8-46823f2017e2
This is all very strange, because they did appear in a previous version of this very same file:

Could it perhaps be related to the strange font behaviour?

  • Fonts not displaying properly (square symbols)

I'm trying to troubleshoot an error in a 3rd party vendor's java applet where fonts are not displaying properly. It seems as though when the arial bold font is used, it does not display from a particular computer. (this is a company terminal server, by the way).
To illustrate what I mean, I've posted links to small images showing a working example from another machine:
    http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v317/d0hboy/font_problem_working.gif
    .. and a non-working example:
    http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v317/d0hboy/font_problem_error.gif
(apologies, I don't know how to include images in this forum).
Vendor support can only provide support so far as requiring a certain version of a JRE is installed -- after that, it's up to me. I've tried comparing the two JRE/lib/Fonts directories and Windows regional settings but they are the same. I've also tried setting the Sun Java console trace level to DEBUG while Internet Explorer is running the applet.
Is there any where I can look to find out what font is missing, or whether the "JavaFontNotFound" exception is firing? Any help or pointers would be appreciated.

Make sure that you're using the correct font. Arial Bold does not provide full Unicode support. Thsi webpage may assist you:

  • Fonts not displaying properly after 10.0 update (Mac OS X)

After I updated to Firefox 10.0, almost all websites now default to Times Roman, even after I have set Helvetica as my default font as well as have checked "allow pages to choose their own fonts".
I tried trashing prefs, reinstalling the previous version of FF but to no avail.
Never had this issue before and all fonts are displaying properly in Safari and Chrome.
    Any ideas?

Ok repaired permissions and now ''some'' fonts display properly but some are still times roman. Even explicitly setting fonts in Firebug doesn't change them...

  • Fonts not displaying properly in Safari

I built a webpage in Adobe Dreamweaver and for the most part the text is editable. It displays properly in all web browsers (internet explorer, chrome, firefox) except for Safari. When I view it in Safari on my MacBook Pro, the sections where text is editable is displayed in a different font than I used. I used Century Gothic which is a sans serif font and it's being displayed as a serif font.
    How do I fix this?

  • Many Edge Web Fonts not displaying properly, help ?!!!

From this morning, and for the second time in only 10 days, some web fonts in our Edge projects aren't displaying properly anymore !
We're having issues with Maiden Orange, Italianna or even Amatic but when i go on https://edgewebfonts.adobe.com/ at least 75% of the fonts previews are wrong and shows default ones on Safari, Chrome or even Firefox : WTF ?
So it's clearly coming from Adobe's font service, and i hope that they will solve it ASAP cause it's a huge thing for us and our clients !

Okay, so it seems like i can reproduce it on new files. The problem occurs from selecting certain fonts. Bangers is one i was using and seems to have issues after selecting. In the add font box, after selecting it, other fonts no longer become available and fall back to the default ones. So trying this on two different computers with a new file can mean it is either a web font issue, or some odd occurence my internet connection is causing. Any help is appreciated.

  • DW CS5 - fonts not displaying properly

    Hi there
I've just downloaded a trial version of Dreamweaver CS5.5 and seem to be having a little trouble as the fonts on the actual graphic interface are not displaying correctly. Here's what I mean: https://fbcdn-sphotos-a.akamaihd.net/hphotos-ak-snc7/418515_3338939720865_1489816971_31538 14_2003616853_n.jpg
It's kind of annoying so any assistance would be greatly appreciated :-)
    Thanks
    K

You have a corrupt font on your system that needs to be removed.  See if you can run the font through What the font ( http://www.myfonts.com/WhatTheFont/ ) or see if you can go through and remove that stencil-like font.

  • Image not displaying properly in pdf report

    Hi,
I have imported a jpg image on the layout using Reports builder 6i folowing File-Import-Image. Its just a static image. Once i move this report to the server in binary mode and open it from apps(Quote pdf report), the report pdf has the image displayed with half side pitch blank color and the other half side with the actual picture. Can you guide what should i do to display the mage properly.
    Thanks.

    Hi,
    Resolved this problem.
I had 2 more images in the same report, one jpeg & another one in gif format. I removed the image in gif format, converted it into jpeg format & imported back in report layout. Thus, making all three images in the report in the same format(Jpeg).
Once I have all images of the same format in a report. It works fine.
    Regards.

  • Photos will not display properly in pdf

I'm on Windows XP, just bought Adobe Presenter recently, so I should be all up to date.
In PowerPoint, everything works fine when I play a slideshow - my animations show up, all my photos are there, everything's peachy.
When I publish a pdf using Adobe Presenter, suddenly my photos do not show up in the slides. However, if I go to Thumb view on the sidebar in the pdf, I can see the photos on the thumbnail slides. So why are they not showing up in the actual slides in the pdf? All the text, etc. shows up, although our logo at the bottom of the page also fails to show up in the pdf slides, although I can see it in the thumbnail slides in the pdf.
I should mention that I'm viewing the pdf using Adobe Reader 10.0.
I'm hoping there is a quick fix for this, but I haven't found it by searching the forums.
Secondarily, my transitional animations don't play in the pdf. I'm not as concerned about this, but I don't understand why it's happening and would like to figure out how to change it eventually.
Thank you for any help you can give! I'm supposed to get a first draft to client by tonight, so the sooner the better. Thanks so much!

Okay, so I re-read your original post and believe I misunderstood your problem.
    You said:

    1. Do you mean that the photos tied to your animations/transitions aren't showing up?
    2. Are other photos on static (non-animated) slides showing up?

  • Ariel font not displaying properly

Ariel font does not seem to work correctly in any of the Microsoft Product such as powerpoint. word. entourage. etc..
Background: The user messed up and actually put fonts she needed to install the first time in System/Library/Fonts. which I have read was the folder you are not to touch. So i deleted all fonts in that folder, went to another MAC machine and copied the system/library/fonts and copied it to this computer hoping it will now have the default fonts in there.
The font shows it as Ariel but what is actually on the screen is some other weird font.
To troubleshoot, i first decided to start the computer in safemode to delete all cache fonts. This resolved the issue just one time. Upon reboot of the computer i open Word and start typing in Ariel. All is well. Ariel shows as ariel. I change the font back to helvetica and start typeing. all is well, helvitica shows fine. I change it back to Ariel and the problem comes back. Ariel font is chosen but what i am seeing on the screen is NOT ariel.
Can anyone enlighten me? I have also deleted all fonts from folders users are supposed to put the font in and recopied to no avail. After the first typing of ariel it will work..but when changed to another font then back to ariel the problem creeps up again.
thanks for those who can help.

First, you should run a Repair Permissions. Even though you copied the /System/Library/Fonts/ from one Mac to another in the same location, they will all have incorrect permissions.
You can install all, or any number of the fonts OS X comes with by following the instructions at the bottom of Font Management in OS X.
As for the cache files, booting in safe mode only removes cache files for the user account you log into. That still leaves the system font cache files and those belonging to Office, which are not in the same location as the rest of the user account cache files.
To clear all font cache files from the system, download and run Font Finagler. This might still leave the Office cache files. To remove them, if necessary, close all Office applications. Remove the following files. The tilde (~) indicates your home account.
    ~/Library/Caches/com.microsoft.browserfont.cache
    ~/Library/Preferences/Microsoft/Office Font Cache (11)
For Office 2008, the location of the second item is:
    ~/Library/Preferences/Microsoft/Office 2008/Office Font Cache (12)

  • Fonts not displaying properly

Upon compiling and running ANY Flex or AIR apps out of FB3 on
my Mac OSX machine, any text (including text in Alert.show()
windows) displays incorrectly. I can only see the bottoms of
letters that have descenders. Anyone else running into an issue
    like this? Any work-arounds available?

It could be a difference in how 10.4 and 10.5 interpret fonts.
In the short term - go back to the original machine to finish the project.
In the longer term, check to see if there are duplicate fonts. You can read up on how to check and what to do to disable any found in the FONT BOOK help file.
    good luck,

  • JPGs not displaying properly in pdfs

I've created a vectored oval logo in Illustrator CS3. I've made a jpg version of it for my client to insert in Word docs. It's quite large so it's completely sharp when viewed in Photoshop but they say it appears jagged and cut off at the sides and bottom when they make a pdf from the Word doc. I immediately blamed Microsoft! However, I tried it myself by placing the logo at various sizes in InDesign CS3 and making a pdf of that and I am getting the same problem too. I tried making a smaller jpg so it could be placed at 100% but still the same problem. I've made the pdfs at different qualities too and have viewed them at different sizes on screen. If I place a pdf of the logo rather than a jpg, it appears smoother in the final pdf but still looks like it has been cut off at the edges. Any ideas how I can resolve this?!

Do you have a particularly old version of Word? According to
Microsoft at least, recent versions should be able to import EPS and
    print well to any printer.
The edges cut off seems a separate issue - perhaps strokes at the edge
of the design are outside its bounding box. Try putting a white box
behind the design, just slightly larger, to encourage Illustrator to
    include the very edges.

  • Font not displaying properly

Recently did a clean install of Windows 7. Installed Firefox, and text on webpages looks horrible. Here is a screenshot
    http://i.imgur.com/U5R84Bc.png
I tried disabling hardware acceleration, no effect. I reinstalled the Arial font, which the web inspector says is being used, no effect. I have font smoothing turned off, and I am keeping it that way, I hate font smoothing
I know it can be fixed since I fixed it in the past without turning on font smoothing, I just can't remember how I did it.

Download the current full installer anyway,

  • Fonts Not Displaying Properly in Flash Player

I can't figure this out.... Fonts on sites that use flash player don't disply. Under settings this is how it looks.

That's an odd one.  I haven't seen this before.  What OS/browser/version of Flash Player are you using?
Could you please open a new bug report on this issue over at bugbase.adobe.com. When adding the bug, please include a copy of your system's dxdiag report so we can try to reproduce it with similar hardware.

  • Markup not displaying Doc/docx/PDF properly

    Hey everyone,
I'm using Oracle text in conjunction with Apex, all on top of the 11G database. My issue is that using the Oracle text Markup, many files types do not display properly. The level of wrongness varies, from some readable text to complete gibberish. This happens to all version of PDFs, Docs, and Docx files. A sample of what appears is below:

However, using a simple .txt file, the result is nearly perfect and everything is complete readable.

Well, I figured this one out on my own. I had been using a multi-column datastore, and it turns out that you have to turn on auto-filtering for each column you add. Once I had done this and rebuilt my index, my markup was much more accurate and readable. Hopefully this can help out anyone else going through this issue.
