Fonts Perfect After Todays Update!!

Just wanted to say thanks to whoever fixed the font issues!
I have been really struggling to get my fonts looking good again after the fontconfig 2.10.1 update. I finally got them to be livable after getting the proper symlinks in place (and my local.conf in place), but they were not quite as good as before. Then today I went and updated my system and they look fabulous again!
FYI, this is what my configuration looks like. I use the standard fontconfig packages (non-patched).

  • [solved] X11 desaster after todays update!

    Hi!
    I have some big problem after todays update of my system. I just installed the new Kernel 2.6.19-beyond (I need this one because of my reiser4 partitions) and rebuild the nvidia module for it. After the usual restart I'm no longer able to start KDM or KDE at all. Whenever I want to start KDE the either by using kdm or startx my computer starts working for about 5 seconds, the screen starts to switch as usual, but than I get thrown back to the console, having a blank screen laft and the computer doesn't react anymore. :shock:
    It also stops working immediately and I only can push trhe reset button. This is some fatal problem since I have lots of work that needs to be done. I also switched the xorg.conf to the nv or vesa module but still the same thing happens. I also rebuild the beyond kernel but the same thing.
    So can anybody help me with this. I need to get my work done and couldn't find any answer to this. This is very urgent since I already have a schedule that is almost out of control.
    Thanks a lot!

    Thanks for the advice. But I usually delete the cache after a while, so it just happened that I did this a couple of days ago so I don't have the previous kernel in there.
    About the Xorg.0.log, I already checked it for any error or warning by using
    more /var/log/Xorg.0.log | grep WW
    and
    more /var/log/Xorg.0.log | grep EE
    but there's nothing in there that indicates any problem. Both results don't show any warning or error. Besides that I didn't change the xorg.conf after the update and it worked before....
    But thanks anyway for trying to help me out. Do you (or anybody else here) have another idea that I might have not thought of?
    So I'm still stuck on this and my working clock is ticking.
    I really don't have any clue what this might cause.  :?
    Thanks!

  • Cmd and option switched after todays update

    Dont know if this is placed right but I found it alittle hard to navigate in this forum.
    After todays update (Quicktime and security update), cmd and option (win and alt on my keyboard) has changed.
    I must press option+m for spotlight for example.
    They keyboard is Logitech UltraX Flat.
    Has anyone heard of this before? And more important, does anyone know if I can change it back somehow? Maybe there is some cool settings or app that can do it

    Well then, you'll have to deal with reconfiguring any passwords, and finding registration codes for those software that you need if you were to recover from backup. Your other option is to find a macro utility that reverses those key functions on http://www.macupdate.com/ or http://www.versiontracker.com/ Just remember you have that turned off before you next update.
    I would mention to Logitech that their keyboard has this problem with the update you tried, and see if they can suggest a solution.

  • Locale Error Message After Todays Update [Solved]

    I experienced an error message regarding something about cannot locale en-US.UTF8 after an update and reboot today.
    I got rid of the error message by uncommenting:
    en_US.UTF-8 UTF-8
    en_US ISO-8859-1
    in
    /etc/locale.gen
    Prior to fix:
    $ locale
    locale: Cannot set LC_CTYPE to default locale: No such file or directory
    locale: Cannot set LC_ALL to default locale: No such file or directory
    After fix:

    LC_NUMERIC="en_US.UTF-8"
    LC_TIME="en_US.UTF-8"

    Didn't have time to check into this issue in much detail and would appreciate any additional info.

    Additional info?
    glibc has been upgraded today. You probably haven't merged the pacnew files.

  • What happened to my Photoshop after todays update??

    It used to be so easy.... click on the pixel layer's thumbnail and you're editing the pixels, click on the mask and you edit the mask... USED to be easy. Now today, after the update, click on the pixel layer's thumbnail and you're editing the pixels, click on the mask and... click on the mask and... what the, click on the mask and... why can't I click to activate the mask anymore???????
    To activate the mask I now have to go up to the properties panel... just in case you're thinking this is a good idea, Adobe, it isn't, its a terrible idea and a real pain in the you-know. Yes, I deleted my preference, yes i rebooted, and yes this is now my reality as of 12 o'clock this afternoon. You are becoming really difficult to love, Adobe.

    Hi Marianne
    I know the ACR update is just a few hours old, but I have not seen anyone else mention the problem you describe.  It certainly hasn't made any difference to my system.  Can we try and pin your problem down a bit?
    Photoshop version?
    Operating system?
    Perhaps upload a screen grab of your entire workspace showing the Layers and History panels, and drag them out show all layers, and as much history as available.
    Does this happen with all images? Have you restarted the computer as well as Photoshop?  Are you absolutely sure that Preferences was reset? (It sounds like you deleted the preferences file rather than use the start up method)
    Reset Preferences
    Windows — Hold down Shift Ctrl Alt immediately after starting Photoshop
    Mac — Hold down Shift Cmd Opt immediately after starting Photoshop

  • After todays update smart playlists still doesn't sync......

    After I installed todays update Itunes doesn't snyc the smart playlists correctlyfrom Iphone 3Gs while on the other hand syncing with my Ipüod nano works without problems.
    Please Apple fix that bug while it's very frustrating

    I had the same issue and spent god knows how long on the phone with apple.  They had me reinstall iTunes and then format my iPhone yet I was still having issues.  One apple employee told me that they are having issues with their server being overwhelmed and did not know when it will allow me to sync.  I did not want to use the iCloud but when I turned the feature on (and turned off all the auto sync) it allowed me to sync through my computer.  I am still crossing my fingers everytime I sync though.
    Good Luck

    I answered this question on my own. I was able to utilize Pacifist and reinstalling the video card drivers and display profiles. Now everything works as it should.

  • Pidgin fails to start after todays update / segfault in libgstclutter

    Hello,
    I'm getting this error message since the last update:
    $ pidgin
    Xlib: extension "GLX" missing on display ":0.0".
    ERROR: Caught a segmentation fault while loading plugin file:
    /usr/lib/gstreamer-0.10/libgstclutter.so
    Please either:
    - remove it and restart.
    - run with --gst-disable-segtrap --gst-disable-registry-fork and debug.
    starting with --gst-disable-segtrap --gst-disable-registry-fork also did not work.
    Temporarily removing the file /usr/lib/gstreamer-0.10/libgstclutter.so with sudo mv /usr/lib/gstreamer-0.10/libgstclutter.so /usr/lib/gstreamer-0.10/libgstclutter.so.old fixed the problem so far, but this is not a good solution am I right?
    Any help please... Thanks!

    I have Asus laptop with nvidia-optimus. After last update pidgin showed next message:

    First message disappeared after I reinstalled gnutls
    Trauble with Xlib:  extension "GLX" missing on display ":0" was fixed by remove next packages: nvidia and nvidia-utils, and installing intel-dri, xf86-video-intel, and reinstalling mesa.
    Now I have:
    $ pidgin

  • [solved] laggy X Core Font rendering after today's updates

    I've got an interesting issue after applying today's updates of kernel, X server, and nouveau, and I'd like some of you to try reproducing it, in the hope that it will help me figure out which component is causing it. Rendering of X Core Fonts, AKA XLFD (non-Freetype fonts) is laggy. When some text in such a font should be drawn, space is made to display it, but the text doesn't appear until I push a key or wiggle the mouse.
    Please try this experiment: Open a terminal (urxvt or plain xterm will do) using an old-school "fixed" font. I used 7x14 for my testing. Run "sleep 1" in this terminal and don't touch anything after hitting enter. If you find that most of the time, the prompt doesn't come back when sleep exits until you use the keyboard or mouse, you've duplicated the issue. It's also fairly easy to notice just by typing normally in such a terminal as the input echoes back rather slowly. It feels as it server-side font rendering is hung up by the server waiting on an event that really shouldn't be involved with fonts.
    I'm running nouveau on a GT9400, and applied these updates tonight:
    [2011-01-30 18:59] upgraded kernel26 (2.6.36.3-2 -> 2.6.37-5)
    [2011-01-30 18:59] upgraded libdrm (2.4.22-3 -> 2.4.23-1)
    [2011-01-30 18:59] upgraded libgl (7.9.0.git20101207-2 -> 7.10-1)
    [2011-01-30 18:59] upgraded libva (1.0.6-1 -> 1.0.8-1)
    [2011-01-30 18:59] upgraded mesa (7.9.0.git20101207-2 -> 7.10-1)
    [2011-01-30 18:59] upgraded xf86-video-nouveau (0.0.16_git20100819-2 -> 0.0.16_git20101217-1)
    [2011-01-30 18:59] upgraded xorg-server-common (1.9.2-2 -> 1.9.3.901-1)
    [2011-01-30 18:59] upgraded xorg-server (1.9.2-2 -> 1.9.3.901-1)
    I'd be especially interested if it's broken for anyone not running nouveau, or who didn't update all of these components. Once I narrow it down a bit, I'll open a bug (either here, or upstream somewhere). It's easy to work around, by just using a TrueType font in my terminals instead, but still worth a bit of investigation.

    I had this trouble when I upgraded to
    xf86-video-nouveau-git (20110206-1)
    and had to upgrade to
    libdrm (2.4.23-1)
    Fixed by rolling back to
    xf86-video-nouveau (0.0.16_git20100819-1)
    libdrm (2.4.21-1)
    I'm running the very latest Nouveau git kernel modules, but going back several versions made no difference.

  • Hindi font issue after yosemite update.

    Hey friends,
                          I am facing a weird after updating my macbook pro 13(2011), I use Hindi fonts (qwerty Devanagari) for my video editing projects. It was fine before Yosemite, but after updating to yosemite 10.10.1 hindi fonts are not visible correctly in my imovie projects. They are perfectly visible while typing but when I play the project it becomes all wrong. please help if you are aware of this.

    aakashfrommumbai wrote:
    I found De. MT after digging into font collection. May be it was default in previous os version.
    Yes, Devanagari MT has been Apple's default for 10 years or so, but in Yosemite it seems to be Kohinoor.   I wonder if Kohinoor has bugs...

  • IPhoto changed after todays update

    I performed the recommended update today on iPhoto. I have immediately noticed two changes that are troublesome to me. Hopefully someone can help.
    #1 - I can no longer right click on a photo and have it open in Photoshop Elements 4.0. I've verified this is still set under my preferences. I can edit it only in iPhoto, but no longer have the ability to open in external editor. It actually gives me that option, just that nothing happens now when I choose the option to open in external editor. Any ideas what might be happening here?
    #2 - the options for show file and/or show original file are greyed out. I used to be able to actually see the location of the files in the iphoto folder. There are moments I choose to access the original or modified file for various reasons. I can no longer locate these files in the finder via the finder directly or through the show file/show in finder option in iPhoto.
    Any ideas on why I cant see the location of files and what might be happening to prevent me from using the external editor option?
    Thanks

    Are you referring to the iPhoto 7.1 update? First delete the iPhoto preference file, com.apple.iPhoto.plist, that resides in your User/Library/Preferences folder. If that doesn't help launch iPhoto with the Command+Option keys depressed and follow the instructions to rebuild the library. Select the first three options. Lastly, download and run BatChmod on the iPhoto Library folder with the settings shown here, putting your administrator login name, long or short, in the owner and group sections. You can either type in the path to the folder or just drag the folder into that field.
    Do you Twango?
    TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. By keeping it current I mean backup after each import and/or any serious editing or work on books, slideshows, calendars, cards, etc. That insures that if a problem pops up and you do need to replace the database file, you'll retain all those efforts. It doesn't take long to make the backup and it's good insurance.
    I've created an Automator workflow application (requires Tiger), iPhoto dB File Backup, that will copy the selected Library6.iPhoto file from your iPhoto Library folder to the Pictures folder, replacing any previous version of it. It's compatible with iPhoto 08 libraries and Leopard. iPhoto does not have to be closed to run the application, just idle. You can download it at Toad's Cellar. Be sure to read the Read Me pdf file.

  • [SOLVED] Bad font rendering after last update (pango issue?)

    I am getting very strange font rendering problem. Look at the screen below. It only affects gtk windows (as you can see below HTML text is currently displayed, but url bar and context menu is not). I belive it appeared after upgrading pango package to 1.32, but downgrading it as instructed here (https://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?id=151886), didn't help. Does anybody know what can it be? Any hints where to look for the solution?

  • Cnnot start firefox etc after todays update. No samba either

    Hi
       Today i did a pacman -Syu that updated qt, samba and something else that i dont remember. The problem is that after that i couldn't run openoffice. After i did a reboot i couldn't start firefox or thunderbird. Additionaly artsd crashes as soon as the kde session starts.
    When i try to run firefox and thunderbird from command line i get

    Another thing is that network shares that are mounted with cifs don't list any files. Samba service on restart fails to stop but appears to start normaly. Still no shares. And dmesg | tail doesn't report anything.

    Anyone knows how to fix this?
    Thanks

    Title & post mention different versions, 4.5 or 4.6?
    Suggestions:
    -Try re-installing to the most recent version of Java - also might want to play with 32 bit vs 64 bit Java installs
    -Usually such errors make this kind of a thing a bit more obvious, but you could try messing with increasing the memory available to the jvm running FB. I believe modifying the -X values in FlashBuilder.ini should do this.  I had to do this once (who knows what they did to our workstations to require it), but like I said usually there's a more obvious error message...
