Fonts screwed up on certain websites

My Firefox installation at work used to display all websites fine. But starting a few months ago, the fonts displayed on certain websites (that always looked fine before) started looking of low quality. These websites look fine when I look at them at home or with IE.
I've tried working with Tools - Options - Content - Fonts and Colors - Advanced but haven't found anything to help yet. If I turn OFF "Allow pages to choose their own fonts" the problem fonts are fixed, but then all pages display the same font and I don't like that.
I've even tried removing and re-installing Firefox, but that doesn't help. In fact, my computer manages to remember all my old bookmarks without my having to re-import them, so there are some settings files that are not getting erased when I re-install.
Below is a screen grab from BoingBoing.net so you can see what the fonts look like.
Does anyone know how to fix this, or how to re-set all the font settings on Firefox back to the defaults?

Following up, attached is an image from BoingBoing.net showing what the displayed fonts look like.

• After "cleaning up" my fonts, all text in certain websites is bold. Please help.

About a week ago, I deleted every font in font book that had a yellow circle (this is a problematic font) warning next to it, thinking that it would help stabilize Word. Now all the text on certain websites, e.g. https://www.lexisnexis.com/start/signin?service=lexis&contractURL=https%3a%2f%2f w3.lexis.com%2fresearch2%2fauthResource.do%3f_m%3d04e7cec9cf984a4030f980679eaa70 6b&key=_c4BE55E57-F002-DA05-DE3F-49B4F056C0EF_kD6B95D8A-DB53-3E64-E981-13ED11BB5 374&event=form, that should be plain shows up bolded. Italicized text does not have this problem. I have only found one other website on which I have this problem (some blog), the problem is that I use the website above all the time.
Chrome, Firefox, Safari, all the same.
Thanks,

Hi ..
Might be a duplicate ..
Open the Font Book app.
From the Font Book menu bar click Edit > Look for Enabled Duplicates
If it's not a duplicate issue, from the menu bar click File > Restore Standard Fonts

• Why are fonts too small in certain websites?

In some websites, like Yahoo or any ran by Google, the fonts have become so tiny I can't read them. If I look at the sites using Internet Explorer, the fonts look normal. None of the solutions I've seen posted in FF solve the problem.

• Font issues...only noticing issues on certain websites

This could end up being a Safari issue but I am posting here because I am noticing the problem after I upgraded to Leopard.
Whenever I go to certain websites, instant messenger chats, various video players i.e. Comcast Fan, You Tube, etc. I can barely read the font. I am only noticing this on the items I just listed. I was chatting with a friend in instant messenger and I could barely understand what they were writing because of the font.
At first I thought it was a Comcast Cable internet thing but I am noticing it more and more on other sites. It's the same font too.
So I am trying to see how I can make it a font that I can clearly read and understand.
In the Safari preferences, I selected APPEARANCES to see if I could change anything there. This is what I have it set as currently:
Standard Font = Times New Roman 16
Fixed Font = Courier 13
Default Encoding = Western (ISO Latin 1)
Thanks

Baltwo,
Its not necessarily the size thats the problem its the actual font. It almost looks like Graffiti which is hard to read. I am only seeing this on my desktop. I also have a Macbook pro laptop and everything on those sites I listed looks perfect. I do NOT have leopard on my MBP.

• Bold fonts on certain websites - font smoothing woes

Hi,
I purchased a 13" MacBook Pro last week and I'm having a bit of an issue regarding font smoothing/font rendering on certain websites. I'll do my best to try and explain...
When loading certain websites (mainly vBulletin-based forums, but this happens on quite a few other sites too) the text looks bold and ugly, the same sites look fine on my friends 15" MacBook Pro and 24" iMac - as an example, his looks like the sample on the left and mine looks like the sample on the right:
http://i47.tinypic.com/e7b8ro.jpg (not my screenshot, but my issue is exactly the same)
I've done some searching and other people have fixed this problem using the following command:
defaults -currentHost write -globalDomain AppleFontSmoothing -int 3
This basically changes the hidden font smoothing settings which were removed in 10.6, in 10.5 you had the following options to choose from:
Automatic - Best for Main Display
Standard - Best for CRT (1)
Light (2)
Medium - Best for Flat Panel (3)
Strong (4)
If I set the command above to 1, 2 or 3 my fonts don't change at all and still look bold and horrible. If I set the command to "4" (Strong), do the usual log out and back in, then I get the correct looking fonts on the websites I had issues with BUT my system fonts and other websites now have a very soft, almost out of focus font, probably due to this being the Strong smoothing setting. Likewise if I set the command to "0" (turning font smoothing off) I get the correct looking fonts on the problematic websites but again system fonts look odd, not nice and smooth (due to font smoothing being turned off)
Does anyone have a suggestion as to what I can try next please? Could this be down to the resolution/DPI of the 13" MBP's screen?
Thanks,
Verta

Hey! I had exactly the same issue as you! Do you have an addon called WebSecurityKeeper installed into your Firefox, without your permission? Check your Addons list pls. I had this addon and when I uninstalled it, my fonts in Firefox returned to normal.
Its possibly a malicious addon. But I am not sure. I have no idea how it got installed my computer.

• When visiting certain websites, Firefox doesn't display the sites heading and sometimes the text correctly. It appears broken and unreadable.

I've reinstalled a new version of Firefox and set all settings to default, yet the problem still continues. Running Windows 7 and tried several different browsers (IE, Safari, Chrome and Opera) and all seem to work fine. Only problem is with Firefox. The only time it works fine is when I don't allow site to use their own fonts. Any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

I just found out problem is with Adbock plus which blocks the certain websites to run fully. If u have installed Adblock plus plugin, go to Adblock plus preferences and remove the tick mark of the website which show only texts.

I got the same problem on 2 different computer.

This issue can be caused by the bitmap version of the Helvetica or Geneva font or another (bitmap) font that can't be displayed by Firefox in that font size.
Firefox can't display that font in the specified size and displays gibberish instead.
You can test that by zooming out (View > Zoom > Zoom Out, Ctrl -) to make the text smaller.
Uninstall (remove) all variants of that not working font to make Firefox use another font or find a True type version of that font that doesn't have the problem.

• I have problems scrolling on certain website

I have the current firefox installed on my system...all of the sudden I can't scroll on certain websites....its sluggish and hangs...some sites are just fine...one site in particular is www.crocs.com as an example....Now when I use IE no problems what so ever....I have updated my mouse software uninstalled and reinstalled firefox and it still didn't fix it...Its more than just crocs that affects but some places I have no problems

Slow scrolling issues can be caused by fixed background images on web pages.
A test can be to disable the colors for websites.
Tools > Options > Content : Fonts & Colors: Colors > "Allow pages to choose their own colors, instead of my selections above"
If that works then see if you can find an update for your display driver.

If you have increased the minimum font size then try the default setting "none" as a (too) high value can cause issues.
*Tools > Options > Content : Fonts & Colors > Advanced > Minimum Font Size (none)
Make sure that you allow websites to choose their fonts.
*Tools > Options > Content : Fonts & Colors > Advanced > [X] "Allow pages to choose their own fonts, instead of my selections above"
It is better not to increase the minimum font size, but use an extension to set the default page zoom to prevent issues with overlapping text.

• Safari will not open certain websites

Aloha,
I'm new to mac, and so far so good. The problem is that I can't get safari (or firefox) to open certain websites. The one that bugs me the most is https://www.navo.navy.mil/products/geo.htm . I use it to get weather information that is not available in more mainstream sites.
It is a military product, and what I should get is three windows/frames/boxes that
when you click one thing, it gives you options for the next box, which opens information that you want.
This site works, in pc no problem (win98, win2000, XP, running firefox, ie or opera). Is there a work around to this problem? Is there another browser that will open this site up in mac?
I've tried to find this information elsewhere to no avail. In my business it's essential information.
Help please!
Oh, and how do I find out what version os I'm running?
Mahalo Chris

Hi Chris,
Welcome to Discussions.
I'm not sure what the Navy site is supposed to look like, but it appears to load ok in both Safari 3.0.3 (public beta for OS X 10.4) and Camino 1.5.3. Here's a screenshot of what I see:
I can't seem to access any data though as each search tells me the service is temporarily unavailable (is that expected?). What do you see when you try to enter this website?
Oh, and how do I find out what version os I'm running?

• I get error messages when I try to visit certain websites using Mozilla Firefox but not when I use other browsers

About two days ago I noticed that when I tried to access certain websites using Firefox I always got this error message; "The connection was reset". I initially thought it was a problem with my isp before noticing that the network was fine on my phone and iPad. I then attempted opening the same links that brought up the error message on the TorBrowser and it worked perfectly.
Basically the only website that works on my Firefox browser right now is Google but if I do a search on Google and then click on any link that comes up as a result I get the same error message, "The connection was reset". I can also log into my gmail account but I cannot access any other website including Feedly, Tumblr, Twitter, Yahoo, Wordpress, Blogspot, even though they work fine on my other browser.
I cleared my cache and cookies, wiped out all the browsing history but the problem persisted so I uninstalled Mozilla Firefox and reinstalled it. The problem is still there. I checked the proxy settings, I went through all the solutions on this page https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/firefox-cant-load-websites-other-browsers-can?esab=a&as=aaq and still nothing. I am not sure what the problem is here but any solution will be much appreciated. I have used Firefox for years now and I am not really comfortable using another browser.
I use a Macbook OS X Version 10.9.4 and the latest Firefox 32.0.1

• How do I get certain websites to work on my MacBookPro?

I've been working on this for more than four hours now, and I'm extremely frustrated. Here's my problem:
When I try to use certain websites (i.e., Google, Facebook, Yahoo) instead of going to the page, there is a pop-up that says my Flash Player may be out of date. I hit ok, and it takes me to a screen that has two buttons: Update and Remind Me Later. It doesn't matter which one I click, it tries to download Flash. The option this screen gives me is not compatible with Mac, so I found the correct one on this site.
I've searched the forum for answers and tried everything I found on here, as well as spent an hour with Apple Customer Service. I have uninstalled and reinstalled Flash multiple times. I cleared all my caches, I reset my Safari, I made sure all the preferences were selected in Safari to allow for plug-ins to work. I went into the settings for Flash Player and deleted all the site data. I made sure everything was up to date (OS X 10.9.4 and Safari 7.0.5), but I'm still getting these messages. When I was on the line with Apple, Youtube was working and playing video, but now it is not. On the Adobe site I was looking through the troubleshooting and came across a screen that said if the yellow clouds were moving, then Flash was working. The yellow clouds WERE moving, but I'm still not able to connect to certain websites.
What else can I do? I'm in a foreign country and Facebook is my best option to stay in touch with my family, but right now Flash is making that impossible for me. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

What is your installed Flash Player version?

• TS1398 Just got the mini, specifically to get jobs on a certain website. Jobs change all the time. When I go to website, it has not updated from the first time I logged in on the mini. It works on my laptop just fine. HELP!

My sons just bought me an ipad mini especially so that I could check a certain website on which I sign up for jobs throughout the day. The website is updated constantly throughout the day with new jobs and the status of the jobs I already have accepted and worked on. (It shows the percentage of the job that has been done.) It worked fine only the first time I logged on with the mini. Since then (yesterday,) when I check the website, it lets me log in, but I only see the same exact information that was there the first time I went to the website using the mini. It seems to be 'frozen' on that particular first look. It doesn't update at all.
I know it is not updating because I have also been checking with my notebook computer and with the notebook, the website is up to date.
Maybe its Safari?
I had the same problem when I used a friend's iPad.
I wonder if there is a setting or something that I could change to allow the website to update to the time I check it.
If not, then the ipad mini is a terrible disappointment and I would like to return it.
If you can help me, I would be extremely grateful.
Thanks in advance...
