Fonts turn to gibberish randomly.

See the images below. Any ideas what's happening?

Thanks Dave. I'll try the dinner and a movie thing tonight. In the meantime, my info is below.
I just updated to AE CC 2014 and then the issue occurred. I tried going back to AE CC 12.2 and the error happens there too. The font I'm using is managed by CC. My setup is a Mac Pro 2014 6 core, 32 gigs of ram with Dual AMD FirePro D700. Any serious advice is greatly appreciated.
Thanks in advance,
Brad

I have FF and win7. Fonts turn to weird characters at more then 75% zoom when the checkbox "allow webpages to choose their own fonts" in the contents option > advanced is checked, when forced to calibri this behaviour doesnt occur
An aexample of that is the product title on the product of this website:
    https://www.xstreetsl.com/modules.php?name=Marketplace&file=item&ItemID=2424553
While switching to double check this I just saw that this also happens in this very window in wich i am typing my question now. If i copy and paste this text to for example notepad or anything else, it shows up like normal text.
    == This happened ==
    Every time Firefox opened
    == i installed firefox on win 7

This issue can be caused by the bitmap version of the Helvetica or Geneva font or another (bitmap) font that can't be displayed by Firefox in that font size.
Firefox can't display that font in the specified size and displays gibberish instead.
You can test that by zooming out (View > Zoom > Zoom Out, Ctrl -) to make the text smaller.
Uninstall (remove) all variants of that not working font to make Firefox use another font or find a True type version of that font that doesn't have the problem.

  • PDF Files Turn to Gibberish

My .pdf files (scanned or converted using Acrobat or the PRINT option) turn to gibberish when put into iWeb '08,v 2.0.4(830A41). In addition, .pdf files already on the web page are OK but the same files reloaded onto the page are gibberish. The .pdf files appear normal in everything but iWeb. This started recently. I last loaded a .pdf about 2-months ago. The Adobe support is non-existant, but this seems to be an iWeb issue.

Maybe the problem is solved, or avoidable. I've been checking the appearance of the webpage using the "Visit site now" option after publishing the page using iWeb. When I view the page from the actual site using a browser, the gibberish document is not gibberish. The gibberish problem is only when viewed in the "Visit site now" option. Guess I won't rely on that feature in the future.

  • Macbook pro turns black screen randomly like ***!?

My macbook pro is running on the latest OS mavericks. It is just weird how my macbook turns black screen randomly, and it happend when the batterey isnt low. When the screen turns balck, i can still see the mouse, but everything else is black. It happened several time already, normally i'd have have close my notebook and open it up a few minutes later for it to recover. This is BS.

  • My iPod Touch turns itself off randomly

My iPod Touch turns itself off randomly. I will be doing something, and it turns off. It gets so bad that it turns off right after I slide to unlock it. Sometimes it flickers off and on as well. It works fine when plugged in to a power source. I haaven't done anything traumatic to it either. It just randomly started. Has this happened to anyone? If so, did you fix it? If you did, How? Please tell me, I'm at the eand of my rope with this.

Depending on the usage and age of the device it could be the battery.
To make sure it is not software related, reset the iPod by holding the sleep and home button until the Apple logo comes back gain. You will not lose data doing a reset.
Next step after that would be setting it up "as new device" without using the latest backup: How to set up your iPhone or iPod touch as a new device

My Ipod NANO 4gb keeps on turning off at random times. The battery is fully charged, and i've updated the IPOD and ITUNES. What can I do?

Check the sleep option, maybe it being hit accidently. Maybe reset your setting on ipod, check background setting. Seems strange.Maybe use the hold button to lock ipod.

  • Ipod turns itself on randomly

The Ipod on my 3GS turns itself on randomly. I went to the apple store and was instructed to restore the software as a backup. I did that and the problem continued. I went back and was told I had to restore as a new phone. I did and still had the problem. I went back and was given a new phone...still have the problem!

Great! Thanks for the tip. I'll try just turning off my bluetooth and see if that takes care of it.
    Thanks again!

  • My ipod screen just turned blank white randomly and now it won't turn off/reset or connect to the computer... need help

my screen just turned blank white randomly and now it won't turn off/reset or connect to a computer or really do anything... need help.

    Try:
    - iOS: Not responding or does not turn on
    - Also try DFU mode after try recovery mode
How to put iPod touch / iPhone into DFU mode « Karthik's scribblings
    - If not successful and you can't fully turn the iOS device fully off, let the battery fully drain. After charging for an least an hour try the above again.
    - If still not successful that usually indicates a hardware problem and an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store is in order.

  • My iphone 5 keeps turning off at random battery precentages

Help! My iphone randomly turns off at random battery precentages.  I find this actually really annoying because its unsafe.. I mean, if my phone randomly dies and if I got in a car accident? Was lost and needed directions? Or anything else, it is so unpredictable!

A low battery is not the only phenomenon that will cause the iPhone to shut down.  Excessive heat or cold are examples of other phenomena that cause this behavior.

  • My eBay listings are showing gibberish randomly throughout the description

Since Firefox4 update, all my listings on eBay (120 of them) are showing random sentences of gibberish in the item description field in place of any text that has been set in italics or bold font.

I have alerted Apple (and eBay) to the scroll bar problem (Apple case #232023702) and I would encourage everyone reading this to please also send Apple a complaint so that they will fix the Safari browser's inability to properly render the frame-within-a-frame iFrames used on every eBay listing.  The more complaints they get, the faster they will address the issue.
If IE and Firefox can interpret the iFrames code properly, then Safari and Google Chrome should be able to too.
The only way I know to send an email specifically to Apple's Safari team is to click on "Contact Us" at the bottom of this page and then find "Website Feedback" (it's in the bottom right corner) and click on "Product Feedback."  Scroll to Mac Apps at the bottom of the page and click on "Safari" where you will be able to submit your comments.  Select "Bug Report" under the "Feedback Type" tab.
Having to regularly turn your cookies off is a major inconvenience, because not only will you have to turn your cookies back on for other websites that require them, but other eBay pages that sellers use to list their items, require the iFrames format to work properly and if your cookies are turned off, you will not be able to see all of the available listing options.
Simply not accepting any eBay cookies is only a temporary fix for this problem.  It is NOT a permanent solution.
Thanks to all who are willing to send a complaint to Apple so that this problem will get looked into and get fixed.

    Rob McElroy

  • IPhone 5s iOS 8.1.2 turning off at random battery percents?

For Christmas i was lucky enough to receive and iPhone 5s, upgrading from my 2 year old iPhone 4s which had a terrible battery life and numerous other glitches. All excited on Christmas day i restored my brand new iPhone 5s from the back up of my old iPhone 4s, then on that very day, my phone died at 55%, tried turning it back on and it indicated that i needed to plug it into a charger. i waited a minute, tried turning it back on, and it worked, showing that it had 53% left? so i continued to use my new phone, i was playing music out load and using Facebook messenger, then again it suddenly died, this time at 48%, tried the same method mentioned previously with the exact same result.
Searching the internet for possible solutions, i tried a "DFU Restore". DFU stands for device firmware update. This did not provide any fix to the battery issue, the following day it suddenly shut down at 60%. I again tried a "DFU Restore" only this time i did not restore it from a backup, the first DFU "Restore" i restored it from the backup of the phone, the second time i didn't wondering if the issue was related to the backup. The second time worked, at least for a few days, then again it suddenly shut down with plenty of percent left.
    In Summary:
My Brand new iPhone 5s with the latest iOS is randomly shutting down with plenty of percent left and then requires either charging to turn back on OR wait a minute or so and it will be able to be turned back on, only for the same thing to happen a minute later.
I do not think my phone is incorrectly reading the battery level as it seems to be used at a normal rate.
    I have Tried:
    Restore
    "DFU Restore"
Draining battery to 0% and charging to 100%
    Verbally abusing my iPhone
All with no fix to my problem
I am asking for advice, what else should i do? is their a fix that i don't know of? should i replace the battery? i don't know what else to do....

You should get your phone checked by visiting an Authorized Apple Service Provider or Apple Store next to your place.
You can also contact Apple Support and talk to them. They can check the battery online, visit this page to do that:
iPhone - Contact Support - Apple Support
Click on Apple Support, then on ->Battery, Power &Charging ->Battery questions and troubleshooting, and follow the instructions.

  • MacBook Will Not Turn On After Random Shutdown

I was running a number of processes on my Mac while servicing another computer, and out of the corner of my eye noticed my Mac just shut down, randomly, with no warning.
I have had this issue before with overheating issues, but the laptop turns itself back on afterward or can be turned on after it has cooled down a bit.
This time around, using the power button yields no results. No lights, no sound, no fans, nothing. It's like a black MacBook 1G brick at this point.
Has anyone else heard of or experienced these issues? I will be contacting Apple support, but I purchased this item two years ago. I believe it has overheated and caused a permanent short on the board, or it is possible a component of the hardware has failed. Since this is a hardware issue, is it likely Apple will repair it free of charge?
Does anyone have experience retrieving data from laptop hard drives after such an event, where the computer can not be turned back on?
    Thanks,
    Alex

Have had my new MacBook for less than a week and it is doing the same thing. Tried everything in the book, including re-installing from the Utility Discs. This happened after attempting to use new Airport Extreme wireless router, which was supposed to be an auto-install, but all it did was crash my MacBook.
Apple Support says this have never ever happened before, and is something that cannot happen. Same with local Apple Repair Facility. They will not replace the laptop and apparently warranty will not cover repairs, which I was advised could be several hundred $$$, though they have no idea what is wrong. Took the MacBook back until I get some answers. Looks like I have a $1300 white plastic doorstop with an Apple logo on it.

  • Thinkpad T420 with Optimus: Card is turning on at random

    Hey yall,
I'm using bumblebeed on my Thinkpad T420 and upgraded to bbswitch for power management. The discrete card still shows up in lspci when it's 'turned off" but power consumption goes down and bumblebee says its off, so I figure that's the best I'm gonna get.
Weird thing is, it keeps turning itself on for no good reason. I manually switch the daemon on and off, which I thought was completely controlling all software interface with the card. Apparently ACPI is turning the card on for some reason, and I don't want it to. The only reason I noticed is because I was watching the logs to figure out unrelated ACPI behavior. Pasted below is when I unplugged the laptop and plugged it back in a couple times to see what happened. About a minute later, ACPI wakes up the card. The stuff after that is me running a script that cycles the daemon, which is the most consistent way I have to disable the card manually. I think I pressed a laptop button in there somewhere too.
Does anyone know why ACPI might be waking up the card at random, and how to get it to stop? I have a feeling it's eating away at my battery without my knowledge by turning itself on when I'm on the road.

Ok, so, apparently it is turning itself on when I'm using Flash. I am scratching my head. My browser should have no idea that card exists, because I use optirun to select things to run in that layer. And the bumblebee daemon is off. This seems like a security issue! I'm only able to control the card with root privileges; how on earth is Flash getting around that?
Any ideas are welcome, this is a little over my head. I don't understand ACPI in any intimate way.

  • Pages document turned to gibberish-strange characters in rectangles. Can't read underlying text (still there)

I use a Pages document (password protected) as a frequent reference. It is 22 pages of text. Suddenly most text was replaced with strange characters, each encased in a little rectangle, so document was unreadable. Selecting a section of text, I could right-click and see that underlying text was still there, just not readable onscreen. Style was "Normal*." I don't know what the " * " means. I selected all and changed style to "Heading 9" on the list. All text reappeared, so my data is ok - for now (though not formatted as I want it). I can't trust Pages, however, and don't know what caused the problem or how to avoid it.
Note that the style now shows "Heading 9*". I don't know why the " * ". I tried selecting all and making "Normal" the global style, but the strange characters wouldn't budge. Switching back to Normal brings back gibberish.
Some text is Verdana; I just noticed that changing font also got rid of gibberish. Changing back to Verdana brought back gibberish.
Note that not every line of text was changed to gibberish; some were just fine.
Other Pages documents are fine - right now. I notice that there are asterisks in Style in other text documents.
I'm an experienced computer user, new to Pages in the fall when it came with my MacBook Air. In this document, format isn't all that important, but I can imagine where this would be a huge disaster for other types of documents.
Any help in figuring out what's going on most appreciated.

    Tom -
"That sounds like Apple's Last Resort font, which gets used when for some reason the app forgets about the font being used.  Use Fontbook to make sure you don't have duplicate Verdanas on your machine.  Also try cleaning your font caches with Onyx or by doing a safe boot"
Wow! Who would have guessed! Thank you for the advice; Fontbook revealed a number of duplicate fonts - ot Verdana, interestingly enough -  which I have now resolved. I then switched all text to Trebuchet MS, and everything reverted to normal. I can live with Trebuchet.
This problem appeared on the same day (before or after I wasn't sure) I installed MS Office. Could this have caused the problem?
Thanks for your prompt reply, explanation and solutions.

  • When I connect my MBP to another screen, all fonts turn dark and my VLC screen is really dark!

    Hey.
    Hope anybody can help me.
I have a Macbook Pro with Lion installed.
But... When I connect my MBP to my Samsung 32" screen.
    * My fonts (Only on my Samsung, not on my MBP screen) turn dark, from a light greey to a really dark greey.
      * When my VLC screen is on my MBP its normal, but when I put it on my other screen then it becomes really dark so its impossile to see whats on the screen.
Its the same on every screen i have tried (an LG aswell).
I have had this a couple of weeks now, ever since I borrowed a HDMI adapter from a friend and connected it with my MBP.
Its really becoming a problem. Since I can't watch anything on my screen anymore.
    Does anybody have a solution?

    Try:
    - Going to NF support site/contacting them
    - Try a different adopter
    - Reset the iOS device. Nothing will be lost
Reset iOS device: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
    - Reset all settings
Go to Settings > General > Reset and tap Reset All Settings.
All your preferences and settings are reset. Information (such as contacts and calendars) and media (such as songs and videos) aren’t affected.
    - Restore from backup. See:
    iOS: How to back up
    - Restore to factory settings/new iOS device.
