Fonts unavailable in FM 8.0 but available in MS Word
Several Futura and Garamond fonts were installed on my laptop but are not available in FM. When the documents are open containing these fonts, the "unavailable fonts" message boxes displays.
When I access the Paragraph Designer and select the Default Font tab, a few of my paragraph tags, the font is displayed in gray. The three unavailable fonts are Futura Book (Future Book BT True Type) , Garamond Book/Ultra Cond and Futura Light (Futura Light BT True Type).
Any idea why I can use these fonts in Microsoft products but they seem to be unusable and are replaced in the FM Console?
(1) FM might mean FrameMaker. The original poster should let us know what he means by FM.
(2) In terms of Apple's support for fonts in FileMaker, in fact they only support TrueType fonts. They only support TrueType-flavoured versions of OpenType, not OpenType CFF fonts.

Italic and bold fonts for Hoefler Text are no longer available to MS Word
Apple provides regular, italic, black, and black italic styles for the Hoefler Text font. I've used them before but since I installed Snow Leopard, I cannot creat italic or bold (black) in MS Word. When I make text italic or bold (black), the characters disappear--the sentence shortens as if I had deleted the phrase, but if I change it back to regular, it reappears.
Font Book shows that I have all of these styles of Hoefler Text in the Library. I tried disabling and then enabling, but that didn't work. Has anyone else encountered this problem? I probably should have taken careful notes about what I did by way of disabling and removing the .ttf fonts and then dragging in the .dfont variety. At one stage when I brought up a Hoefler document in Word, the regular Hoefler text had disappeared. I panicked and removed the .dfont version. Later, after trying something else, the text came back but (judging by the numerals) it was not Hoefler. To make a long story short, all styles of Hoefler (including italic and black) are now working. There are no duplicate font files—I used Remove Duplicates—but I have no Hoefler file in either of the two Fonts folders, even though I can see Hoefler Text in Font Book! To be safe, I used Font Book to export the Hoefler Text to a back-up folder, and the version it exported is the .ttf version. In Get Info I confirmed that it’s the 6.1d7e1 variety. I restarted the computer twice, and determined that this situation is stable. Go figure.
In any event, you set me on the right road. Hoefler Text is now working as it should. I appreciate your help. -
in Forms Central, attempting to do file attachment, but "select File" option is grayed lout/unavailable - how do I make it available?
Is it necessary that all the files are on the local hard disks? In the case of the laptop I could understand this if the laptop is also used outside the network, but the desktops should stay in place, no?
It could be as easy as to make a shortcut on all the computers to the samba-share and tell the inlaws that they have to use the samba-share to store their (shared) files.
You are correct about this but I doubt they would remember to use this all the time so I want to sync the folders just in case.
Assuming the laptop is always going to be in the same IP address when it connects to the network (which is unlikely in default configurations), you could create a script that checks for the existence of the machine on the network then perform a sync. I had a script written in Python somewhere that would check to make sure the server side was up and run unison, but it could be modified to check for the laptop and copy files. Let me know if that's something you're interested in and I can post it for you.
This sounds like what I'm looking for. Also I wander If it could be done by NetBIOS name instead of ip address? This way It wouldn't matter.

XP Pro Windowsw/Fonts has a font. It is listed as available in MS Word. It is not listed as available in Adobe Illustrator CS6. How do I fix this? Thanks.
BobbyH5280. Very helpful answer! I am XP for the next week on CS6. I did find 3 items that helped. The fonts are in AI, but are listed on the bottom of the list. Also in Edit/Preferences/Type, checking "Show Font Names in English" makes the font list easier to read (doesn't appear to change the sort order though), and (with your suggestion) checking "Sow Asian Options" might do something positive. Thanks to all of you who sent in tips.

I added the try/catch statements because for certain fonts the script was aborting on the statement:
appliedFont = thisFont;
because it said the font was unavailable. Why can't I apply that font to some text if app.fonts.everyItem().name included it in the list?Try setting both the font and the style in one command:
appliedFont = "Times New Roman\tRegular";
The 'appliedFont' command may fail if the original font style in there was something not available for TNR, such as 'narrow'. This oughta fix it. -
I'm trying to update my parent's iMac G5 with OS X Snow Leopard and unable to do so because it doesn't have an Intel processor. Are all new upgrades going to be unavailable? What is the last available upgrade? Is it possible to get an Intel processor installed?

LindsayActually you can upgrade to snow leopard. I have an iMac G4 and upgraded to snow leopard by installing it using an external DVD RW drive. It was complicated but it worked. I ended up going back to using tiger though. I liked it better the simple old school way.

I don't know - but I am having the same problem and have not had any useful help from Apple Support. Everything they told be to do has been done and it hasn't fixed the problem.

I have installed the font Broadway on my computer and it works in Microsoft Word but does not appear in the font list in InDesign. How can I fix this problem?
Start by rebooting the computer. If that doesn't work, search for adobefnt*.lst and delete all instances where * becomes a 2-digit number.

How to filter a report by a predefined but reduceable list of words?
I am trying to filter a report by several different input values.
I want to be able to search by date, site, multiple regions (DEV_KEYS), multiple alarm types (ALM_TEXT) and omit entries containing a predefined, but reduceable, list of words (the E#s).
I want the E# variables to be a list with default values (eg. Alarm, Hi, Lo, Standby) but I want to be able to filter by any combination of these. I was thinking of using checkboxes so that I can tick or untick the words to filter depending on what search I'm doing, but I am unsure how to use them like this. At this point I have them in a textbox each and the search will omit the entires when the text is there - what I want. If I delete the word and click Go the search brings back no results. However if I enter some obscure string (eg i5wqii) the word that I replaced will no longer be omitted - what I want. I don't want the user to have to enter something random into a text box to not search for a word.

hello I have tried everything to get rid of files that I no longer need in word, when I am finished with them it asks do i want to save them i say no ,but when i open word again the files are still in word ,I have tried to grag them to the trash can no luck, also went to finder to try there but no luck so what am I doing wrong it is very frustrating , as I no longer want these files kept in word ????
