Food for Points

Points for good cause.

Nigel James made me aware of this site on twitter.com (thanks yet again Nigel).  I must admit after he did so, I spent a good deal of time there to make somewhat of a mark (not sure if it was meaningful or meagre).  The point is in all of these endeavors: Awareness.
Transformations and Change are also an education process be they network transformations or changing the world.  So by spreading the word you are indeed contributing to awareness.  That is the very least we can hope for, and after awareness the next hope is for Care.
Of course the higher goal is Taking Action.
So Awareness->Care->Taking Action each of these removing us a step from blind ignorance and apathy.

  • Do we need ask for points

    Hi friends,
one more chance to share my latest query..... when i first started into this forum i used to request for points after answering questions....  But since a long time i dropped this idea since the poster of the question anyway knows and has the responsibility to reward based on the merit of the answers.
So, in such case how much fair / required it is again to ask for points. ....My intention is how can we give balance to content and not just worry so much about points-
And its bit painful to see people who ask questions which require spoon feeding some times say that Points will be definitely rewarded to attract : as if we would answer anything for points.
at the end of my query i thought the correct subject of my question would be why do we need to ask for points
    Your opinions please.....
    Best Regards,
    Sadhu Kishore

    Sadhu:
Thanks a lot for this post! -:D
Here's my explanation...People just don't read...They still think that they are going to get some free T-Shirts by gaining points on SCN...They think that they're going to get better jobs or that they're going to have better reputation...
Nothing farther from the truth...Points are only good for the Food for People program...Nothing more...And I would love to think that people want to contribute to this wonderful program...But I'm not that naive -;)
I have crossed the 10K milestone...Why? Just because it was a personal goal...And because I get points for writing blogs and posting answers to the forums...But of course...I have never asked for them...
People must understand that this is a professional community...That we're are doing this because we love SAP (Ok...At least I love SAP)...
To me ask for points it's like give something to charity and say "Say thanks otherwise I get my stuff and get out of here"...Very bad behavior...
Points are not going to go...They exists for a reason and I wanted them to stay...People must change...And change for good...
    Greetings,
    Blag.

  • Best amex for points earning ?!

I already have a amex ED and a amex hilton (no fee) ... Ive always wanted to have a amex green since i was child , i dont know why . Now as a grown up i realize it doesnt really offer anything ., it doesnt even have the same "exclusivity" as it hAd when i was younger since now they will take amex in dollar general lololol ... I was thinking PRG ., amex starwood or the mercedez benz credit card (the credit card not the MB platinum charge)

Amex PRG is the way to go, IMO.  With the new changes that became effective June 1st, 2015, you get:3x MR on Flights2x MR on Gas2x MR on Groceries2x MR on Restaurants1x MR everything else.0% FTF <- big change While the annual fee is $175, you also get a $100 voucher each year to apply against airline fees/costs. So if you travel even somewhat regularly by plane, then Amex PRG is a very good deal. The $100 voucher essentially drops it down to $75 AF, thus beating even the CSP. PRG definitely has a lucrative rewards structure now, especially with 2x on restaurants which I absolutely love.  The Starwood is nice because Starwood points, arguably, have the greatest value. However, it is extremely difficult to earn those points as opposed to the PRG. So unless you travel internationally and/or stay at Starwood member hotels all the time, you're going to have a hard time racking up points in the same way you can on the PRG. So since your question is about the best amex for points earning, I think it definitely has to be the PRG.Some of the information you provided here was incorrent and I don't want it to mislead the OP. The annual fee was increased to $195 when they added the new features. Also, you do not recieve a voucher for $100 each year, it can only be used towards 'incidental fees'.This was pulled from their website:"Airline tickets, upgrades, mileage points purchases, mileage points transfer fees, gift cards, duty free purchases, and award tickets are not deemed to be incidental fees".The credits are automatically applied to the card after these extra purchases so I would only consider it useful if you want to use it towards things like baggage fees etc. It cannot be used to airline tickets but Amex have been known to credit for airline gift cards.  Although it is in their terms they it doesn't qualify, so it is upto the agent if they approve it.I would only recommend if you travel quite a bit. I regret opening my Amex Green but will be replacing it with the PRG in the next month or two when I hit both my CSP and Freedom spending requirements. I am excited to utilize the $100 airline credit as I travel back to the UK once a year and domestically every now and then too so it will handle my in flight wifi costs, in flight food and also baggage costs.Woops, my bad. Thank you for the correction on the AF. And you're right about the $100 waiver. However, people have successfully bought $100 in gift cards, directly from the airline, and Amex has reimbursed the cost. I successfully did it for Southwest. You just gotta make sure you select your specific airline on Amex's site beforehand. I know, as I said, it's really up to Amex so I would not count on it! Chase for their Ritz card used to be the same way, granting airline gift card credit for their $300 annual travel credit. Both companies recently I have noticed are cutting down on this as it is obviously costing them money becayse everyone is doing it now. So chances are airline gift cards will be strictly a NO soon. It's really too bad using the credit for a gift card is so iffy, otherwise I would ditch my green card in a heart beat and app for the PRG.  I don't travel often, but saving up airline gift cards for a few years for a nice trip would be sweet.  However it's not worth the risk for me, since if I ordered a gift card and it *wasn't* eligible, it would then be as if I had lost $200, which would be painful. Looks like I'll have to just stick to my Green. To me PRG, EDP or ED is better than green card in every way . I mean ED> Green imo in almost every way. unless you really want a charge card for some reason.

  • Mac upgrade to Yosemite, Adobe Indesign CS5 keyboard shortcuts not working -  t for text  - z for zoom - v for pointer etc

So I upgraded my MACBOOK PRO (Retina, Mid 2012) 2.7 Ghz Intel Core i7
    to MAC OS X YOSEMITE
Adobe Indesign CS5 generally works with some very annoying bugs.
All major keyboard shortcuts that use a single key command have stopped working. and these happen to be the main ones I use all the time for editing...
    t for text
    z for zoom
    v for pointer
It's annoying because now I have to keep  going back to the tool bar to change my cursor selection. It's just slowing me down.
    Annoying but workable.
Has anyone else go this issue?
An update or fix would be greatly appreciated.

    WARNING!!!
I was contacted by  apparently a third party supplier called Adobe Systems via this forum
They logged in to my computer via team viewer
    installed utorrent
and proceed to download a cracked version of adobe cs6
in the mean time saying on skype that Adobe no longer has Adobe CS6 on their server.
This seemed very OFF to me and I disconnected the skype (and blocked Adobe Systems) and disconnected TeamViewer
If I wanted a cracked version of Adobe CS6 I'm very capable of doing this kind of thing my self
However I run a business I want to have a legitimate licensed copy of the software running for my staff.
They were offering a fully licensed version of a Adobe Master Suite CS6 with my own unique ID for USD$400
Again very OFF considering the upgrade from Adobe from Indesign CS5 to CS6 is almost AUD$1600
I don't know how they got my email address from this forum but it seems that the adobe forum has been hacked!
    you have been warned!

  • How about two SDN "blogspaces" : one FOR points  and 1 NOT FOR points ?

I suggest that the current SDN logspace be divided into two subspaces:
one for points: this is where technical and/or non-controversial messages would be posted and be rewarded according to the current rules
one not for points: this is where folks would post "controversial" messages (technical or non-technical) that would not get any point reward.
I would personally prefer to post in the "not for points" subspace, for several reasons.
But I'd prefer to see what others have to say before saying what they are.
By the way, there's a US expression "preaching to the choir".  The new blog (for no points) would be for those who are not necessarily "preaching to the choir".
    djh

    david,
i think i do understand your intention and therefore agree with you.
IMHO, the blogsphere here on SDN, as execellent as it is, is kind of a 'posing platform' rather than a discussion space. People do post their contributions, receive their points reward and expect some congratulations and cheering if anything at all. I happened to me that people got upset when I questioned the use or correctness or usefulness of some of the content of their blogs. When it did this with the intention to discuss matters, I recognized that people actually didn't want to discuss their contributions.
Of course the things said above do not hold true for for a big number of contributors.
The same thing thing in the forums. A lot of people do provide very valuable answers but often not discuss matters when points are already given.
So having a discussion area, free of the rewards system's pressures might be a helpful addition. Something like a discussions corner. In Vienna we call this 'Kaffeehaus'
A place where you post some free thought where you don't have to justify the minimum blog reward points, where you don't have to apply the care expected in drafting a blog, etc..
Just freestyle discussion on useful or not so useful topics.

  • FAST FOOD FOR EDITING

when i get into working on stuff I really hate stopping and doing other things ...unless I'm waiting for some process to get done ( eg. export etc ).
So when I am on computer working I get sucked into it and dont like to stop even to eat etc.
I have discovered that fast food is the answer.
even better...get on phone and order food delivered !
but other than that I've discovered you can enhance frozen food TV dinner things or soups...pretty quick and is really good...
    1) get stouffers (sp?) fetticinii alfredo...nuke...( 2 min ? ) and add can of tuna ( mix it in..) yum...instant tuna casserole !
    2) get progressive new engl clam chowder.. heat up... add can of chopped or minced clams...heat a min longer....way better !
( add red pepper or whatever ).
whats YOUR secret editing fast food solutions ???

darnit.. i was writing email to my state senator and missed the crab story.. what happened ? can we eat them ?
yum... i ate some crab cakes for breakfast this morning... from icelandic or something like that... microwave on high for 2 minutes covered... the perfect fast food for editing...add cocktail sauce.
cock and tail .... sauce... appeals to most people on a subliminal level .... IMO...
for me its the tail part.. but hey, friday is gay day in the film biz ...( IMO ) and mayor bloomberg tends to prove it 7 days a week !
no offense.. my best friend is gay
just kidding but it could be true
how would i know anyway? maybe i havent met the right wife yet.. 3 down but there are many fishes in the sea.... any chics feeling adventurous out there ??
    edit... true story :
I was working on set of some stupid tv cop show ( i think it was law and order at chelsea piers but forget ) and sitting at a big 'conference table' with other crew members during a take. after the take we had to move to the room we were sitting in to shoot, and to do that we had to lower some bay lights etc which were above the big table .. so the room had to be cleared of people to do that ( dont wanna drop stuff on people etc ).
Soooo, the subject of this " new " movie ( brokeback mountain ) got brought up by some *** hags sitting at the table... chics who love gay guys in general for the spirit of the thing.. ( this is hollywood so theres no figuring out why this is true ) .. and one asked ME if I was gonna go watch the movie. Like go to a theater and watch this new movie.  This is starring the guy who killed himself like a week ago.... and everyone was sorta talking about this great new movie and the dead guy.
Being a grip etc.. and pretty old ... I looked at this young woman and there musta been something in my countenance that sobered her up or something...cause she looked away and giggled and changed the subject and then got out of the room when I said, " We're gonna lower the bay light, get out of the room ".
I never saw her again. The dead guy is still dead. The gay movie about cowboys is still a blockbuster. Life goes on , eh ?

  • Accessibility for the visually Impaired - food for thought

    Experts,
    Some food for thought:
From a technical perspective, all I can imagine of as a solution to deliver accessible applications to visually impaired users of SAP, is an orchestrated screen design and cursor flow with complete keyboard navigability and minimum or zero click sensitivity.
Have TTS/speech driven navigation or other alternatives been introduced in SAP already? If yes, what are the steps to be performed to harness the same in a typical SAP ERP Installation. Please enlighten me.
Also, if you think this post is in the wrong forum, please let me know.
    Thanks in advance!

  • Logic Crashing, food for thought...

I posted this in another thread, but thought it might be worth posting separately.
First, keeping in mind that crashes probably happen to Logic users all around the world running different versions on different computers with varying amounts of plugs, 3rd party apps, etc., and that not every Logic user is a member of an online forum... OK, having said that...
Based on my casual observations reading through this most recent rash of crash complaints, I noticed that many of these posters are running the latest OS, 10.4.9. And I recently had an experience in another studio where, after installing Logic on a 10.4.9 computer that Logic crashed incessently.
Anyway. So, my food for thought: has anyone found that they're crashing more often since updating to 10.4.9?

MBP (core duo 1.83) all updates, no problems. Just ran some of the scenarios that others are reporting - it's as stable as ever.
The only thing I've run across lately is Logic on the MBP not picking up my config from AMS. I have a G4 MDD in my studio, and I'm setting up to be able to switch systems with 1 usb and 1 firewire cable. The midi system is rather complex (40+ ports), and I spent my time working on my laptop.... then found Logic just ignores it. Works fine on the MDD - also running 10.4.9.
but no crashes on either system... knock on wood.

  • WLC code for point to point bridging

What is the best WLC code for point to point and point to multipoint bridging on a 2504 with 2602 APs? 7.2-7.4 had transparent vlan issues and I'm not sure if they were fixed in 7.5-7.6. We have 5-6 vlans that we are needing to bridge between a large open area. Also, are there any bugs with wireless mesh and ISE?

You do not have many choices now, only 7.0.250.0, 7.4.121.0 & 7.6.110.0 codes are supported by Cisco. All other codes have been deferred by them.
I do not have configured those set-up to advise you specific to that. I would think 7.6.110.0 may have fixed whatever the known bugs in previous versions.

    Hi Friends,
Anybody have got the link for Bi content for Point of sales(POS) module in retail industry.
Please post the link and good documents on this.
    will assign the points.
    Best regards
    SAP

    Dear Srinivas,
I've already run a systemtrace to find out the tables:
The following tables are involved: MPOS, MMPT, MPLA and MHIO, MHIS.
In BI-Content I just find MPOS in the DataSource 0PM_MAINTPOS_ATTR and 0PM_MAINTPOS_TEXT. That is ok for master data.
The other tables I couldn't find in BI-Content.
But maybe the BI-Content does not use these tables. Maybe there is used a view which I don't see in the trace.
    Regards.

  • SDO_UTIL.GETNUMVERTICES for point type geometries returns gtype?

    Hi folks,
    This is a head scratcher.
Uh shouldn't this always return 1? It seems to return the get_gtype value.

FROM DUAL;Am I missing some nuance here?
    Thanks!
    Paul

    Hi Paul,
I'm looking forward to hearing you work the term "fancy hat" into an explanation of this behavior.
I get the same behavior on 11.2.0.2. Tsk tsk on you for not mentioning your version. Back on 10.2.0.4 the same select statements yield:
    ORA-06531: Reference to uninitialized collection
    ORA-06512: at "MDSYS.SDO_UTIL", line 344
So the only nuance I can think of, which isn't really a nuance at all, is that getnumvertices isn't allowed for point types.

  • Firewall necessary for Point to Point internet connections?

Firewall necessary for Point to Point internet connections? We have multiple point to point t1 connections to our sites and was wondering if a firewall should be in place to filter traffic. We are also implenting a microwave t1 from a service provider and was wondering if firewalls would be needed for just this or the wired as well. According to the microwave company no firewalls are needed. Do i really want to leave security in the hands of the ISP?

    Matt,
If you are buying private line T1 service from a carrier that connects 2 of your sites you would not use a firewall. Your traffic is never mixed with any other traffic. If your data is very sensitive, or if you have to comply with Payment Card Industry standards then you might want to encrypt your data, but a firewall would still not be necessary.
If you have a T1 connecting you to the Internet for Web browsing etc then you very much do need a firewall.

    Hello Prashant,
I recommend to use LACP instead of unconditional bundling it provides the capability to detect the neighbor and that is the same system connected to the other link.
You have ISP connections in the middle and so it is important to bundle in a safe way.
    So I would use
    channel-group 1 mode active
in order to use LACP. LACP messages are sent over every member link.
Another point of attention is that you are configuring each multilayer switch with a static default route to the other device and this is not good practice.
If you know that one site is more important you can configure the static default route on the other router, but on the main site you should configure specific static routes describing the IP subnets that are reachable at the other site.
    Hope to help
    Giuseppe
