Foolish forms fudging my fonts

Behold 4 very small pdf files.
http://www.aardvark.com/df.pdf
http://www.aardvark.com/df2.pdf
http://www.aardvark.com/dform.pdf
http://www.aardvark.com/dform2.pdf
df and dform were created with openoffice oowriter (a word clone) and exported to pdf. The font is DejaVu Sans. Note that DejaVu Sans is not a standard windows font but so what. Acrobat supposedly embeds the desired fonts.
The first, df.pdf,  was loaded into acroreader and looks fine. It's then loaded into Acrobat 9.2 and, without any changes, saved as df2.pdf. So far, so good. df2.pdf looks fine in acroreader. Acrobat carried my font from df to df2.
Then dform is created (again with openoffice) by adding a text box to the original document. That's all. Just a simple ordinary harmless text box. The result is exported to dform.pdf and loaded into acroreader and, again, looks fine. I then load dform.pdf into acrobat 9.2 and immediately save it as dform2.pdf. The result (as seen in acroreader) is a mess.My DejaVu Sans text is smeared across the screen.
Looking at File->Properties->Fonts I see that my DejaVu Sans font didn't carry over from dform to dform2 the way it did from df to df2.
I had the Edit->Preferences->Cetegories->Page Display->Rendering->Use Local Fonts checkbox unchecked in each case.
The presence of a form caused my font to not be carried over.
Why?  How do I fix this?
Thank you,
Apchar

For any interested parties and to close this thread... I stumbled onto a work-around. Instead of loading the pdf file into Acrobat, import it into a blank sheet using
Document->Insert Pages->From File.
It can then be saved and the fonts will carry over from the original. I don't know why but it works. For that reason I blame Acrobat and not OpenOffice.
This leaves me irritated to no end. I only wanted Acrobat so I can make forms that can be filled out in reader and saved (filled out with editable entries) by the user. It cant even do that without some coercion. I'm using the trial version but I know I'll have to buy the darned thing just so I can enable the "Extended Features in Adobe Reader."  I'm left paying $300 for a temperamental file converter that does nothing but flip a bit in reader. Grumble Grumble.
Anyway, thanks to all who tried to figure this out.

  • PDF Form in Particular Font 2

    I need to create a PDF-form with a particular font. I already embedded the font when exporting from InDesign and set the "Subset fonts..." to 0% as advised to in this link:
    http://forums.adobe.com/thread/426831
    However when I try to choose the specific font (Melior), I get this error-message:
    "The selected font has a custom encoding and cannot be embedded ind the PDF-file because of licensing restrictions. (...)
    To avoid this situation, use a font that can be embedded in the PDF file, a font that does not have a custom encoding or a font that is known to be on all systems where the PDF file will be viewed."
    What can I do?
    Thanks for your help!
    C

    Thank you, that was what I needed.
    So now I know the test PDF document use only TrueType fonts. That means its content should be indexable for TREX but it isn't. There is just message "No document excerpt available" for this document in search results.
    Could someone look at the document and try to index it? It can be downloaded from http://www.volny.cz/kabrtz/TREX/indexing_test.pdf

  • Pdf form -- too large font

    Hi,
    I'd like to fill a pdf form with atril. Unfortunatelly it uses so huge fonts, that some of the letters are actually lolling out of the box. Do you have any idea how to change the fontsize?
    Or any alternatives? Acrobat Reader works fine, but I'd rather not use it, since it cannot save the filled form. I've already played around with inkscape, but that's more like avoiding the problem, than solving it
    Thanks!

    I do the same as dice, in that I try it with various PDF readers (and a web browser if I'm pushing out the boat) to see if they'll work.
    Don't know about saving the completed form, because I tend to fill them in and then PDF print it and print to a printer.
    And I'd say it's something to do with Adobe being Adobe.

  • Urgent (sort-of) How do you edit the form of typefaces/fonts or create your own ??

    Hey im very new to illustrator- but i really need to do this project.  I am unable to learn the basics because of time.
    This is what i want to do: (please help im clueless at the mo)
    Basically i want to edit the forms of a  san serif type ( or make my own (if it is easy)) .
    I want to edit type because im making an animation where the font letters are morphing in to other letters.
    ei - A into B into C ect .
    i can draw this - the problem is that im gonna have to 100s if i want a smooth animation and i would of thought using illustrator would be alot quicker and  i can use more frames.
    how would i go about this ?
    Also what size do you reccomend .

    zosspro,
    You may have a look at blends.
    If you wish to have a number of steps from one shape to another (outlined Type or whatever), you may:
    1) Place the start shape to the left and the end shape to the right (with the centres at the same Y value) with a suitable distance so yo can see what you are doing;
    2) Object>Blend>Blend Options, set Spacing to Specified Steps with the number of inbetween shapes, set Orientation to Align to Page or Path as desired, if relevant;
    3) Select both shapes form 1) and Object>Blend>Make.
    You can now see all the intermnediate shapes. You can Undo and make changes, and you can Object>Blend>Expand if you wish to have all the steps as independent objects (you may Ungroup them).
    You can also make a blend between three or more objects to start with, with the same distances and number of steps between the original shapes, and you can combine (the objects from) blends.

  • Forms 9i cyrillic font problem

    Hi all. I have a database which in it I store cyrillic data. I run my Forms 9i program and in web page I see these fonts (for example)
    Éàñàìàë
    How can I change it?
    In Forms6 I give to LOV (for example) a font and I can see normal output.
    Thanks...

    I checked PATH environment variable and it already contains path having Forms DLLs in it.
    After that I deinstalled Oracle 9 database from computer and tried again to start my program.
    Now it works but I don't know why it was having trouble creating context with d2fctxcr_Create when database was installed on computer.
    Anyway, I might need database in the future so I would like that it coexists peacefully on my computer with Oracle Designer. How can I achieve that? Tnx in advance.

  • Forms Builder default font?

    Is there anyway to set the default font that Forms Builder uses when creating text items?
    Normally when I start developing a new form Forms Builder defaults the font to Microsoft Sans Serif 8, but for some reason everytime I open Forms Builder now I get a font of Tahoma 8 and I'd like to change it to something else.

    Java fonts are different and limited, so even you set your fonts different on windows, at runtime you will be limited to the java supported fonts. I usually set it to helvetica and it seems pretty close to what I see at runtime. But , we are developing and deploying on Linux, so it may be different on windows.

  • Safari 5.1 disables form select with @font-face

    If I add css @font-face AND background-color to <select> it wont show options instead it reloads the page. It works just fine in Safari 5.05, FF, Chrome and Opera but not safari 5.1. Is it a bug in Safari or is it the code? Tested on iMac and Macbook Air.
    Example: www.mindwerk.dk/admin.php
    <style type="text/css">
    @font-face {
              font-family:Century_Gothic;
              font-weight:normal;
              src:url(fonts/Century_Gothic.otf);
    select {
              font-family: Century_Gothic, Verdana, Geneva, sans-serif;
              background-color:#e0e0e0;
    </style>
    <form action="index.php" method=post>
        <ul>
            <li>
                <label>Choose:</label>
                <select name=remember>
                    <option value=yes>yes</option>
                    <option value=no>no</option>
                </select>
            </li>
        </ul>
    </form>
    Anyone experience the same?

    I am getting the same thing on certain site site. Such as abduzeedo.com

  • When I convert to word my doc formIng shifts and font sizes are different. What the problem

    Any help with this?

    Hi willscsu,
    You may be running into trouble with the fonts used in the PDF file. As a test, would you please try converting the document from within Reader, and disable OCR following the instructions in this document: How to disable Optical Character Recognition (OCR) when converting PDF to Word or Excel.
    Please let us know how that goes.

  • Font mapping in Forms 10g on Unix/Linux

    Hello,
    does anybody have a adea how font mapping in forms 10g works on Unix/Linux.
    As far as I know I do have to have a X-Server running on the node so that forms can mapp java fonts, is this true?
    What configuration options do I have on the server.
    Can I differ strictly between development tasks (consideration of developer) and admin tasks ([configuration]considerations of Application Server Admin) referring font mapping in forms 10g?
    Is there any "Best Practices to this subject?
    Thank you.
    Regards
    Frank

    Hello Frank,
    - fontmapping takes place in Registry.dat file?!
    - According to your article "Forms: Using custom fonts in Oracle Forms Services 10g" I only have to customize fontmapping in Registry.dat file.
    -Customer developes on MS-Client and uses Arial,but is surprised about displayed font, which is´nt Arial.
    -Can I just customize font mapping in Registry.dat as follows (according your example)?
    default.fontMap.appFontnames=x,y,Arial
    default.fontMap.javaFontnames=u,v.Arial
    What do we have to consider on client site?
    What´s about java on client (JInitiator)?

  • How to use MICR fonts in Adobe forms (webdynpro java

    Hi,
          We have a requirement where we need to print some MICR codes (for checks) through Adobe Forms.
    I have installed some true type MICR fonts in windows and Adobe Font Manager (in ADS) as well.
    It is visible in the Adobe Form design time (Font palette) and when I use the font for text, it is visible in preview too. But when I run the web dynpro application, in the online form it is converted into Standard font (Times new Roman).
    Is there anyway to handle this issue.
    Please let me know.

  • Japanese font package being required for form without Japanese

    I created a form in Adobe Acrobat Pro using (as far as I know) all English characters.  I saved the form and am now trying to open it on another computer that has Acrobat Reader X.  The error message I'm receiving is "A font package is required to correctly display this page.  Click OK to direct your browser to download the add-on from adobe.com...."  The font package that it wants me to load is Japanese.  Once I load that font pack, the form opens without any problems.
    I'm not the only one having this problem, others who are trying to open the form are experiencing the same difficulty.
    So, why does Reader think my form contains Japanese fonts, and how do I get rid of them so others can open the form without having to install a font package?
    Thanks!

    As far as I can see, there are no asian characters there.  Here are the fonts listed:
    BellGothicStd-Bold
    FuturaBT-BoldCondensed
    FuturaBT-Book
    FuturaBT-BookItalic
    FuturaBT-Light
    FuturaBT-LightItalic
    Helvetica
    KozMinPr6N-Regular
    ZaphDingbats
    ZaphDingbatsItCbyBT-Regular
    Thanks again!

  • Font size and user form

    Hello,
    I'd like to know if somebody find a solution for the font size issue on user form.
    since BO 2005, the user can change the font size. the application will format all the controls of form with the good size.
    However, the layout does not follow very well for user form.
    If the font size is changed while a user form is open, the aplication will reformat it perfectly, the controls are bigger, and the distance between the controls are ok
    But when the user form is open again, it keeps the distance and control size of the XML file but change the font size, so the layout is very bad, sometime the static text or the caption could not be read, so it's not possible to use the form as is.
    I use XML to create form, I haven't try by code, but in my case, I can't use code because there are a lot of controls in the form.
    Any idea if it's possible to call the Business One procedure to resize the form and its control (not only the font) ?
    Thanks you

    Try resetting the FontSize of all items (and columns) to the one you used for the design after loading the form.
    I use a simple loop over all items and an inner loop for matrixes and grids to set the font size in their columns.
    Now users can have a larger font, but the added forms will use the original design's font size.
    This approach has some drawbacks:
    - Added forms use a different font size
    - Some of the controls will still get their size based on the system default font size
       (checkboxes, drill-down arrays, headercolumns, perhaps more?).
    - Focused item is not resized by this (so far I have been able to work around this).
    - Changing the font size while the form is open, will break the design as the
      font size does not change, but the control sizes do.
    This is not an ideal solution, but it might give some help, until a better one presents itself.
    If the users don't use a dramatically different font size, my form design work quite ok,
    even with the drawbacks or at least it is better than nothing. It is a good idea to test
    the form with different font sizes to make it more flexible.

  • How can I format fonts when filling in PDF forms with Preview

    I have been using Preview to view and fill in PDF forms.  The font that Preview uses to fill in the forms is very small and difficult to read.  I would like to make it larger to match the document font size.

    Whilst in the Preview application, press "Shift - Command - A" (⇧⌘A) simultaneously to show the markup toolbar, or click View, and select "show markup toolbar". There is an icon "A" near the right hand side of the now visible markup toolbar, click this icon to reveal all the font options.
