Foolish iphone being temperamental with home-wifi

hey,
my iphone 3g is very temperament with my wifi,
for the first 3 weeks it worked fine, until one day when mail and youtube stopped working.
The only way to fix was to change security on the wifi from WEP to WPA.
Now, a month later it has done the exact same thing again. I have taken security off my home wifi and everything is back to normal.
Why must my iphone have the personality of a fool? i want security at home, but also want my iphone to be useful

It used to run fine on our wifi.  If I take it off of wifi then it runs fine in LTE.  My husband's iPhone works fine on our wifi.  We are not having any technical issues with our wifi.
Try Settings>Reset>Reset Network Settings. Note that you will need to re-enter any WiFi passwords.

  • I cannot connect my iPhone 4S to my home wifi. When trying to connect it says I have the wrong password, but I can connect my MacBook to the same network with the same password. I have tried to restart my router, reset my network settings, fail!

Hello, I am having some major troubles connecting my iPhone 4S to my home wifi. When I try to connect on my phone, it says I have an incorrect password. That's not possible because I can connect my MacBook to the same network with the same password. I have reset my network settings on my phone, reset my router, called apple support, triple checked I was trying it in correctly, I have no clue what's going on.
The only thing different is I just moved, but I have the same router/phone/internet provider.
I've seen some discussions of router security options being the problem, I have my router connected to : WPA-PSK [TKIP] + WPA2-PSK [AES].
    The other options are: WEP , WPA-PSK[TKIP] , WPA2-PSK [AES] , WPA/WPA2 Enterprise.
My troubleshooting and understanding of all this is pretty limited, my applecare service did not help, please can anyone help me?
    Thanks!

If the issue happened after an update, you may want to go into an Apple Store. Be sure to let them know exactly what's wrong with the device.

  • My incoming phone calls are being shared with my wife's phone as well both phones are receiving the same call show do I correct?

    Iphone question
my my incoming phone calls are being shared with my wife's IPhone as well, both phones are getting the same call, how do I correct?
    thanks

That is a new feature described in Connect your iPhone, iPad, iPod touch, and Mac using Continuity - Apple Support
You can turn it off by going to Settings > FaceTime and changing "iPhone Cellular Calls" to off.
You may also want to look into using separate Apple IDs for you and your wife. That is now more flexible with new Family Sharing features: http://www.apple.com/ios/whats-new/family-sharing/

Bought a new iphone 6 with Verizon plan 2/11/15. Tried to connect with my home wifi  3 or 4 times with I thought the correct password but now it says Forget This Network and wont let me try again. Can't its the only network available. How do I clear this and start over. Thanks, this laptop connects fine but this is my first smartphone and  I don't see why it gives a crap if I  mess up 50 times! Help!

Help is right here for you Omichael! Let's get you conneted
to your home wifi. May I ask are you able to connect to other wifi networks? If
so then please forget your home network again, turn wifi off, reboot, and
retest. If this doesn't work then you will want to reset network settings.
Settings > General > Reset > Reset Network Settings. Keep in mind that
this will delete ALL wifi passwords that you have saved.

  • Problem (sometimes) with home wifi iPhone 4S

Hi everyone, I have a problem with my wonderful iPhone 4S 16Gb. I have been experiencing this problem since the beginning and i heard it was going to be fixed with the iOS 5.1, but it didn't happen.
Now, my iPhone connects to the wifi without problems, and it works great. Then, if i lock it and leave it on the desk, after a while it disconnects. Then, sometimes it reconnects as soon as i unlock it, sometimes i have to reconnect manually (settings -> wifi and then i can choose my home connection) but sometimes, at this point, when i touch my connection it says "unable to connect". I have to wait roughly 5 minutes before it manages to connect again to the wifi network.
I looked for a solutions in this forum but i couldn't find a situation that was the same as mine.
ps: i have no problem with other wifi connections at my friends' house or at school.

Yeah from your description this definietly sounds like you have a router problem.  When you are able to connect at home do you get a full set of signal strength bars?  And do they stay full?  Of do they jump up and down with the phone sitting still on the desk? If you get signal strength bars goind up and down this points to a router issue.
You can start by restarting your internet modem and then your router to see if this helps, but if it stays the same, you either need to update your router's firmware or get a new router.  I would go the firmware update route first as this is very easy to do and usually free.

  • Iphone with home wifi

why my iPhone is going at home always on my abo at not on the home wifi? The sing is there using the home wifi but it's billing also my abo?
    ys a

I have the same problem and called Apple. The first perrson I spoke to said he hadn't heard about this BUT he put me on to a senior tech who said Apple definitely knows about this problem and he asked me all kinds of questions about my home system. He said that mine was the first case he'd encountered where the iPhone 5 wouldn't connect to a Time Capsul but I don't believe that for a second. So if you, too, have this problem, please post what kind of router you are using. I'm sure Apple is monitoring this issue, or at least I hope they are. I am so angry at myself for buying this phone. Apple should be ashamed of themselves for selling it when it is not ready for the marketplace. This problem deserves to be reported by the press.

  • Iphone not connecting to home wifi

Since I have upgraded to os6 for my iphone it takes forever to find and connect to my home wifi.  It just took me about 40 mins. At first the phone doesn't even see the network, it doesnt see any networks in the area so I cant select it and check the settings on it. Then out of the blue it just connects. It's not a router problem because it happens all the time now regardless of whether i reboot it or not and my laptop is connected and I can connect with other devices ipod touch and laptop. Help please??

I am watching for the same solution, Hours of talk to an Apple Representative. There is also a back up problem and Bluetooth pairing problem with mine. It all started on December 5th. There is suppose to be an update to IOS 6 soon to fix these problems.
Best wishes and let ne know if you will.

  • IPhone 4 wont remember home WiFi network

I had an iPhone 3G and now an iPhone 4. Both would forget my home WiFi network as soon as the phone went to sleep. Sometimes if the phone is put down without it sleeping - it will loose the network and defaults to 3G. It also wont remember the password and keeps asking for it. I can put it in 3 or 4 times before it accepts it. I can switch wireless off and back on again, the phone then remembers the network. Why does this happen?
At work, it always remembers the network with no problems.
I have a 1TB Time Capsule, there is no problem with my MacBook loosing any wireless signal, just the phone.
Everything else is seamless. It seems like a simple problem but I have tried everything. I checked the forums before hand and most had router problems.
    Any help please?

I'd love to know the answer to this as well. I live in Korea where WiFi is practically everywhere. If I have WiFi turned-on, my iPhone won't immediately pick up my home network (also a 1tb Time Capsule) when I get home - it will remember network names that it's picked-up from outside. I've tried ignoring other wireless networks in my building. Why isn't there simply an option where you can select a particular WiFi network as your home network without necessarily making it ignore other WiFi networks that you might be using? E.g. at my favorite coffee shop, free WiFi from my carrier (which sometimes covers whole blocks over here).

  • HT1430 iPhone only recognizes one home wifi network but ipad recognizes both

I have two home wifi networks. My iphone only recognizes one wifi which is the slower. Ipad recognizes both. I've turned router off and on and turned iphone off and on and makes no differences. Also ipad used to pick up unsecured wifi networks but no longer does
which I don't want but wonder why that suddenly changed

    Hey Dann4ever,
I would follow these steps for when you're unable to locate a Wi-Fi network on your iOS devices:
Be sure you're in range of your Wi-Fi router (access point).
Tap Settings > Wi-Fi and turn Wi-Fi off and on. If your W-Fi setting is dimmed, follow these steps.
Confirm that your Wi-Fi router and cable or DSL modem are connected to power, turned on, and connected to the Internet. If not, refer to your network administrator or Internet service provider (ISP) for assistance.
    Restart your iOS device.
Tap Settings > Wi-Fi and locate the Wi-Fi network to which you're connected.
Tap i and Forget this Network.
Try to connect to your desired Wi-Fi network.
Note: You may need to enter your Wi-Fi password again if your network requires one.
Turn your Wi-Fi router off and on2. If your ISP also provides cable or phone service, check with them before attempting this step to avoid interruption of service.
Update your device to the latest version of software.
Update your Wi-Fi router to the latest firmware2. For AirPort Base Stations, install updates using the AirPort Utility.
Verify that the network is available by tapping Settings > Wi-Fi and choosing from the available networks.Note: It may take a few seconds for the Wi-Fi network name to appear.
Move closer to your wireless router (access point) and attempt to locate the Wi-Fi network.
If you do not see the network you would like to join, you may be attempting to connect to a hidden network. Learn how to join a hidden network.
Supported Wi-Fi configurations vary by iOS device model. Find out which standards your device supports3.
Reset network settings by tapping Settings > General > Reset > Reset Network Settings. Note: This will reset all network settings including:
previously connected Wi-Fi networks and passwords
    recently used Bluetooth accessories
    VPN and APN settings
via: iOS: Troubleshooting Wi-Fi networks and connections

There are more recommendations in that above article, so if none of those work I would check out the other options within.

  • IPhone 4s connected to home wifi but won't allow connection to internet etc...

We recently received a new modem from the cable/internet company and although the iPhones indicate they are connected to home wifi they won't connect to facebook, yahoo, google, update email. Basically we are using our data in our home with a working internet. The computers are working fine. I have spent a few hours with the cable company and the phone company trying to solve this issue. They both say it is an issue with the other party....we have not update to the new OS yet... could this be a setting issue within the phone not responding to the new modem? Should we try updating the phones OS?
my kids are running through their data...any advice would be helpful. I have already had to pay for the unsuccessful help of the cable company.

  • Why won't my iPhone 4s remember my home wifi connection?

My iPhone 4s connects to wifi but doesn't remember the connection. How can I get it to remember after shutting it off?
It's pretty frustrating because I just got it and was downloading apps. I came home and connected to the wifi(we have no password) and it showed I was connected I put it in sleep mode and an hour later got an email 90% of my AT&T data had been used of my 2 gb plan when yesterday I was only at 65%. Sure enough my iPhone said 4g and not wifi. I connected easily enough again to my network but occasionally is not connected after coming from sleep mode and never connected when restarting the phone. Any ideas? The phone also doesn't have a "forget this network option" listed.
    Thanks for any help.
    Jim

My Issue was exatly as described above at start of thread. I had my network set to "Linksys" now a unique name and....
This was exactly my issue, iphone began to remember the password. I previously didn't have the "Forget" button on the setting page, now it is there and connect automatically.
    Thanks, for some good advice.
