Foot pedal with Mainstage

I am new to mainstage and am using it to trigger the playing of drum and bass backing tracks. I want to use a foot pedal to trigger this. Is this pedal an USB pedal? Could someone recommend a foot pedal? I don't need a lot of controls just a simple pedal. Thank you.

I wish.
There is a shortage of usb pedals.
'sposed to be some coming out soon.
One called... um, I can't remember exactly. Something french with "II" (It's either the pi symbol or roman 2, it's unclear and very hard to google) in the name.
there is the "midi solutions" route, a box that converts expression pedal info to midi. google it.
there are a bunch of non-music related usb foot controller devices that might work for you.

You can use a keyboard or other controller (with jack like sustain) and then assign controller (normally 64) to what you want Mainstage to do.
This is unlikely to work if you plug an "Expression Pedal" such as an FC7 into a "Sustain Pedal" socket using MIDI CC64, which usually operates as a switch rather than a continuously variable value.
If I understood the OP's request correctly, the OP wanted to use the FC7 as a "Whammy Pedal", which does a PitchBend 'dive' effect (amongst other things)

How to program a midi foot controller on Mainstage? Does anyone knows how to program the foot controller with exclusive solo channel in order not to dance "tip tap" while from clean guitar I go to crunch or solo? How to do this programming on Mainstage?
I basically managed to learn how to invert parameters which allows me to be as default in the clean guitar channel and if I switch the first button on the midi foot controller I switch to crunch, but at this point I tryied so hard to programm the second and third button to switch, only through a button in one step, to a third channel for distorsion or a 4th channel for solo guitar but I couldn't figured out how this work can be done!
I would appreciate if anyone could help or share this experience with others who are experiencing the same problem.
    Cheers.

I cannot seem to get mainstage to recognize my FCB either. I am using IFCB. Anyone figure this out?

  • Whats a good mac to use for a home flight simulator with flight controls and foot pedals?

whats a good mac to use for a home flight simulator with flight controls and foot pedals?
My old 6100 AV worked great on A10 ATTACK, back in 1993.
whats a good set up now a days?
I havent seen any MAC set ups as a lot of the after market accessories are on  Windows platform.
Is there a way or should I get a dedicated simulator on PC?

The fact that USB flight input devices appear to Windows only is not a limitation; for Mac most are programmed through the sim itself. I know X-Plane does that.
I've simmed a lot and know that good sims need a lot of processor and video hardware horsepower, and you'll also need a lot of RAM. They also run up the internal temps. A Mac Pro has better cooling than an iMac. You can get a program like SMCFanControl to manually set up the fans speeds before starting the sim.
I know of no sims today that will still run on a PowerPC Mac (2005 and earlier) so you need to look to an Intel Mac with top specs. If looking at iMacs, start by looking for the quad-core i7 processor. Those models usually came with an up-rated video card. Thing 12 to 16GB RAM.
My 2010 iMac has the 2.93gHz i7 processor, video hardware (ATI 5750) with 1TB VRAM, and 12 GB of RAM. It runs the x-Plane 10 demo fine but I've not bought the full version because v10 seems to make foot pedals darned near mandatory, and I don't want $100 worth of pedals under my regular work desk at the moment.

  • Transcription software with foot pedal control

Anybody know if Olympus DSS Transcription machine will work on Leopard? I do medical transcription and use the Olympus AS-3000 transcription kit with foot pedal. It is working fine with Tiger but I just got a new 24 inch IMac with Leopard ready to install and I want to make sure it will work.... any ideas? I need to be able to use the foot pedal when transcribing downloaded DSS files. Thanks

Thanks, Matt. The show controller I had seen but its too expensive I'm afraid. The Vpedal looks great. Just 2 simple questions if you don't mind.
Does it work with OSX 10.5 ? The site says up to 10.4.
I know it says it works with iTunes but I don't understand the itunes plugin info on their site. The only option seems to be Pause back time. I understand this to mean that it causes the file to rewind a certain amount when you lift your foot off the pedal. How would this work with playing songs? I wouldn't want to have to keep my foot on the pedal all the time. I was hoping for a 1 click starts file, next click stops it kind of solution.

  • I just got a fc7 yamaha expression pedal and can't figure out how to configure it with mainstage or logic.

I just got a fc7 yamaha expression pedal and can't figure out how to configure it with mainstage or logic.  I'm using a Gio pedal.

    Hi
You will need to map the "Expression Pedal" to the Waa pedal. There are several ways you could do it, here's one:
In Layout Mode, add a Pedal Screen control, and Assign it to the in-coming MIDI from the GiO.
In Edit mode, select the Screen Control, and click the "Map Parameter" button. While this is active click on the Wah pedal in the PedalBoard plugin. Turn off 'Map Parameter".

  • Please help...  GiO not working properly with Mainstage.  GiO lights errors, and Gio Disconnected errors.

I have a gig ion 11/22, and I am DESPERATE TO FIX THIS....
    Mainstage 3
    Brand new Macbook air
    Brand new Apogee Gio
I've tried multiple reloads of the software
    2 macbook air 13"
    and 6 GiOs.
These things aren't talking to each other.
I bought the laptop SOLELY to run mainstage.  No other garbage is cluttering the box.
I have 1 concert file, with 50 songs (Patches)
Each patch has a few pedals configured on the layout screen, which are linked to the Pedalboard in Mainstage for various effects
AT MOST, I have 1-2 channel strips PER PATCH...  Nothing seriously tasking on the CPU.
THe CPU meter shows <20% capacity, always.  Usually <10%
A few of the patches have a channel strip with a 3 second .wav file (audio channel strip)  NOTHING HUGE AT ALL.
    Problems scenarios:
    1.  MAINSTAGE FREEZES ON LOAD = 3% of the time....
Mainstage freezes at starup..  Jams on the "loading MIDI" message.  happens 3% of the time.
    2. MAINSTAGE reports "GiO has been disconnected" = 100% of the time...
I can sometimes play for 1 hour, no issues.... then all of the sudden, I hit a Gio Button, and i get the "Gio has been disconnected" message. I cannot play a gig, without this failing...    I have to REBOOT mainstage to get the stuff talking again, sometimes I have to RESET the Gio too (by holding a button and pulling/attaching the USB)  Sometimes Mainstage reconnects itself to Gio, most times I have to reboot everything.
    3.  GiO LIGHTS MALFUNCTIONING. = 80% of the time.
Sometimes while I'm playing, the lights on the Gio fail to cycle when I press the buttons...  The lights on the MAINSTAGE screen layout behaive correctly, and the audio output is modified correctly when the buttons are pushed.... but the Gio foot switch lights fail to cycle.  For a particular song/patch, sometimes they work, other times they wont.
I've had Apogee tech support working on this to no avail.
They told me to unplug other usb devices.
    Try new cables.
Increase the buffer size to 256 from 128 (which i did, but the latency/delay is unacceptable, and the problem still persisted anyway.)

    Super,
I have a new Macbook Pro with Retina and an Apogee Gio and use Mainstage 3 under Mavericks (OS X 10.9.1).  I am experiencing similar problems to yours so I do not believe it is a problem with your particular machine or set up.  I have been using Mainstage and the Gio for a few years under Snow Leopard and Mainstage 2 without these particular issues.
I am having the same hang on 'waiting for midi' at startup when the Gio is plugged into the USB port.   This seems to be occurring more and more.  I tried both ports on the Macbook Pro and it occurs on both of them sporadically.  I would say maybe 10% of the time.   I have discovered if you unplug the Gio usb cable at this point and plug it back in it will allow sometimes allow Mainstage to finish booting up.
The Gio is disconnected message I only had one time.  Only appeared the very first time I was using it on my new system.  I believe this was under Mavericks 10.9 (not 10.9.1).  I haven't been getting that message since.
The Lights on the Gio hardware unit and Mainstage do not appear to be working properly here as well.  They seem to work properly for a while but then they lose sync with the templates.  I initially thought this might be caused by my particular custom template.   I tested today using the stock Gio Mainstage template from Apogee and the lights begin to lose sync on the Gio.  Buttons mapped to various pedals or amp settings on the Gio will sometimes stay on when they are supposed to go off or visa versa.  Using the looping functions the various foot pedal buttons sometimes display incorrectly (on when they are supposed to be off).
I believe the problems are  with Apogee's Gio driver or a software issue with Mavericks.
I have filled out a feedback form to report this to Apple.  I would recommend you do this as well so they know it is an issue.  http://www.apple.com/feedback/
I would also contact Apogee and see if they have an updated driver coming soon or if they have any other recommendations.
If you resolve this issue or hear anything, please post.  Thanks.

  • How can i use Kontrol Rig 3 to control pedals in Mainstage

Hi, I have Guitar rig 4 and the Kontrol Rig 3 controller and they work great together.  however, i would like to use the Kontrol RIg as a midi controller for the amps and pedals in mainstage.  could someone please help me out here with how to make this happen.  Mainstage recognizes the Kontrol Rig but i can't seem to make it "learn" anything in the layout mode.  any help would be GREATLY appreciated!
    thanks,
    shane

    Hi
    Yes... absolutely:
1st you need to download the Controller Editor from NI, then you need to configure the RK to work in "MIDI Mode". Assign the switches & pedal(s) to whatever CC's you wish.
Then, in Mainstage, create the screen controls and MIDI Learn them.
You may need the latest RK drivers too.

  • GarageBand - Controller's Foot Pedal (in AUSampler) works for one track but not for another

I am learning how to use AUSampler in GarageBand. I am using a MIDI controller (Alesis Q88) with a foot pedal for the sustain.
The sustain works with the default sound in AUSampler (Sine 440), but not for a sound that I imported. Also, my imported sound plays longer the lower the keys played, and the higher up the keys the faster it plays. Either way, it doesn't allow sustain, but yet the default sound does.
I know where the Controller / Sustain Pedal area is within the Piano Roll but that doesn't fix my dilemma.
I presume my problem is related to the viola sound I imported (wav format), or the way I need to set something up; I hope the latter.
    Any clues?
    Many thanks in advance.

    HI Bob,
You can test your settings by clicking the big "Test My DNS" button at <https://www.dns-oarc.net/oarc/services/dnsentropy>. If you see "Poor" on any of the tests, don't use that domain name server! Remove it from Apple Menu => System Preferences =>Network =>DNS Servers or similar location in your router if you've got a 'home network'. If all you have is "poor" DNS servers in your list, call your ISP and insist that they give you the address of a name server which is protected against the recently exposed DNS cache-poisoning threat.
Also, open System Preferences/Network. Click the DNS tab. Add these numbers in the DNS Servers box.

  • Using Boss RC-50 with mainstage

Hi. Can anyone tell me how to connect a Boss RC-50 with mainstage and a MOTU Ultralite III? I need to use a mic to go into the boss via a motu ultralite and then take the output of the boss into mainstage via the Motu. I know I need to set up a bus from the mic channel strip but haven't got the boss to work with mainstage yet. Thanks!

Thanks for following up.. I keep learning new stuff about Loopback and its great to have somewhere to nerd out about it. I also never used the RC50, so forgive me if I make any wrong assumptions.
If you one patch per part. Lets name the patches:
    Verse
    Chorus
    Verse 2
    Ending
You can configure one patch, get it working and sounding just like you want, then use the duplicate patch feature to duplicate the setup to save time.
This is where I wish I knew how to attach a screenshot to these messages.. it would really save a lot of time and probably eliminate my confusing words..
Both Playback and Loopback have some similar features at the bottom of the UI. You'll see SYNC, SNAP TO, and PLAY FROM.
Snap to will give you several options. If pick OFF, it simply switches immediately. This is the default and probably what you are experiencing now. However.. you can make Loopback snap to beat, bar, or loop as well. If you are working free and you want loopback to switch at the loop point, you can use Loop. If you set two instances to the same value, it will make it possible to switch between patches and get a kind of automatic hand off from one Loopback to another.
In the gear menu in the Loopback interface, there is an option called "on patch change start recording" this is helpful, it means that as soon as you change patches the loopback from the patch you named Verse will stop playing at the SNAP TO point and the next Loopback in the patch Chorus will start recording/playing right when the Loopback in Verse stops playing/recording.
If you set up the Loopback in Verse so that it behaves with SNAP To on Bar, for example, then duplicate the patch a few times, as you switch between patches you will automatically start recording/playing right on the measure line.
Sync keeps Loopback synchronized to the concert tempo (well, before you record your first loop). You may want to keep sync on if you want the tempo of Loopback to match the tempo of your concert.
You can always set the tempo for Loopback manually if you like to work that way, but MainStage won't know what the tempo is, so all of your delays and tempo effects will be out of sync.
If you know the lengths of your loops, you might want to set those in advance too, but you certainly don't have to.
Also, after you have recorded audio into your patches, when you switch back to patches, they will be in record/play mode which means they will play audio you previously recorded, but will also be accepting new audio, so you have to watch yourself. Don't want to ruin your loop when you switch back into it. I don't know of a way to make it play only on patch change.
Ok, one last thing I just realized too. Remember when I was talking about Sets containing patches? well, if you put your Loopback plug-ins at the set level, and you use bus sends to feed the looper, you could record several sounds in each "Set" as you switch through various patches, say different guitar tones.. Then, when you switch to the next set, which could be your chorus, an entirely new set of loopback plug-ins and source sounds can be used.. so what I'm getting at is..
Using sets like super patches, you can create your song sections (Verse, Chorus, etc) but each section can be made up of different sounds for making really elaborate song phrases and construction.
You can also map buttons to be specific patch changes as well so that you can go right to chorus, verse 1, etc. That way you can use your foot controller to jump around the arrangement and keep all of your parts sync'd up so that it actually feels like a song!

  • I need a USB adapter for my dictaphone transcription foot pedal for the ipad mini

I have recently purchased, for work purposes, an olympus as-2400 professional transcription kit for an oral history project.  It comes with a USB foot pedal and i was hoping to be able to use this on my ipad mini.  Does anyone have any ideas about USB adapters with which this item would work? Many thanks!

You can buy a usb camera adapter at the Apple Store but my bet is that it won't work And you will be wasting your money. There are a number of good affordable tablets on the market that come with usb hubs.  I'm not knocking Apple, I have an air for personal use, but they have their own niche and are not very flexible when it comes to adding on options other then those they sell or have license to.  I suggest you call the software vender and confirm before going any further with this.  Personally when I'm at work I leave the Ipad at home and bring my asus transformer. It has usb and HDMI ports for much less money, around $200 And runs Windows 8. If your are open minded there is room in the world for both and both shine in different areas.

  • Using foot pedal for ios music app?

    Hi there,
this is my question: I´m a bassplayer and I need to support our band with more atmospheric sounds, like piano, strings, pads... Thus I thought of using a foot pedal to trigger a suitable app within my ipad 2. And I probably need a kind of chord memorizer like the one in Logic Pro or any likewise technique. Hope I could describe it a bit better than it sounds to me :-)
What foot pedal could be suitable for this? What app can support this? I´m quite experienced with those apps but didn´t find the best. Maybe due to the lack of the pedal...
Thanks in advance for ANY idea and a happy new year!!

Has anyone else seen the same problem?
These are books from CDs or librivox recordings, linked into one or a few multiple-hour files with Join Together.  I have never bought an audiobook from iTunes so don't know if those are handled better.

  • Usb foot pedal driver

I have a sparc machine running solaris 10 and 2 Olympus usb foot pedals. The usb foot pedal models are RS24 and RS26. There are no Solaris drviers for the devices. I tried the detection tool on an XP Pro machine since I do not have an x86 machine. The tool does not detect the pedal even with Windows drivers installed.
I have read that other brands of foot pedals do not support Linux/Unix but should be compatible with their built in drivers. So I tried assigning a foot pedal to the hid driver. Nothing would happen when I press a pedal or cat the files in /dev/usb/7b4.202.
Then I tried assigning the foot pedal to a usb mouse driver from a site recommended by Sun. The driver would install but fail to attach. Still nothing would happen however there would be weird output when I cat the /dev/usb/7b4/202 files.
I know that foot pedals are used for audio and dictation so I would have to test them against that software. However my company would basically like to see changes in the state of the foot pedals to use them in their own software. I have no expereince in coding drivers so feedback with non-coding solutions would be appreciated.

    Hello again.
rem_drv usb_midI would not have done that. This may have influenced your USB configuration in a very bad way. Maybe now some USB devices will not be working.
add_drv -i '"usb7b4,202"' usb_midThe "usb_mid" driver is needed for devices that are handled by multiple drivers (e.g. a keyboard/mouse combination with only one USB plug is handled by the keyboard driver and by the mouse driver the same time). It cannot be used "stand alone" but it requires another driver.
I would try the following thing:
add_drv ugenIf Solaris says the driver is already installed it is OK. If Solaris says the driver cannot be found you have the "USBA 0.9" environment (see previous answer) - do not try to get your pedals working.
Next you must do is to replace the following line in /etc/driver_aliases:usb_mid "usb7b4,202"by the following line:ugen "usb7b4,202"then reboot the system; maybe the following two commands can be used to make the device work without rebooting:update_drv usb_mid
update_drv ugenNow you should get the directory "/dev/usb/7b4.202". Under Solaris 9 this directory is not created automatically but only the link destinations in "/devices/..." are created.
Your next problem is how to work with the files in this directory. It is not as easy as simply opening "/dev/mouse" and reading some data. You'll have to send USB configuration commands etc.
