Footage jumping forward in timeline

I seem to have a problem with footage jumping around. It happened in my last project, but I found a work around. But know that it's happening again, I'm not sure what is going on.
In sequence 1 I layed down multiple tracks, each with its own camera anglem with just cut edits on each track so when you watch it, the screen switches from one camera to another. I dragged that sequence into Sequence 2, which I placed photoshop graphics. Then I dragged that into sequence 3 and placed another photoshop graphic. Now I went back last night and rendered each sequence layer, so eveything should be cool there. But when I watch the final sequence, the footage jumps ahead 15-30 frames. BUT, if I place a cut edit on the frame before it jumps, and then watch it, it flows like it should. Now since I know a work around, I can fix it, but it seems to be treating the symptom and not the underlying problem. Any ideas on what is causeing this? Maybe a missed render in a sequence?

Thanks for the link. I did find out that the jump waas occuring where there was a graphic placed on track two, above the nested sequence on track one. The graphic veries in length depending on the scoreboard (the graphic is a star that tells the person watching which team is in control, so it's either on one side of the scoreboard or the other). The jump would occur if I placed a fade out transition on the graphic. I noticed if I just had the star disappear with a hard edit, there was no jump. I also tried a cross disolve, but that cause the jump also. But it looks fine with the hard edit. Maybe I can figure out my issue, but all in all, it's all good.

I am using a brand new iPad Air and a MacBook Pro with Retina and  on the Computer using Adobe Digitial Edition there is no possibility to jump forward/back using the arrows in the menu. It is not possible to jump to a certain page as well. The overall speed is incredible slow to switch between pages.

Exact same problem here - Win 7, ADE V3.0.  -  pages wont turn unless I click on the symbol at the top RHS of screen for Full/Normal size screen after Page Up/down or a click on the contents page.
Hopefully a bug or something, and not a 'feature' :-)

My iPod shuffle periodically skips across multiple songs...playing a song or two in full and then jumping forward or back multiple songs after playing only moments of a song. Please tell me what I can do to fix this situation. Thank you very much.

This is in regards to a 4th gen 40gb clickwheel ipod.
Hi, i've also been having a very similar problem with my ipod as well. I find that regardless of which windows-based pc i use (either my xp laptop @ home, or my win2000 desktop @ work) windows and itunes refuses to recognise my ipod. In windows explorer it will show it as a removable drive, but if i click on it, windows freezes. If I try to disconnect it, I cant because windows keeps reporting that 'the device is being used, try disconnecting later' and so then i shut down my laptop to disconnect it safely.
Lately, like you, i've also noticed that clicking sound it makes. It happens when i connect my ipod to my computer - like the drive inside it is constantly restarting or something, and i get it when i'm playing / charging it in my dock. I've also noticed that when it's playing whilst charging, it just freezes on a song, then skips a couple of songs.
I've just discovered the disgnostic tools on my ipod, so i think i'll run a couple of tests (ie HDD scan) and depending on the outcome, i'll go visit the apple store.

    -- NOTES FOR DEVELOPERS --
-- The main handler is GoForward, which is triggered by mouseUp.  The Initialize
-- handlers checks if the global gNavigationButtonList variable has the right
-- structure, or creates it if it does not already exist.
-- USE OF 'JUMP BACK/FORWARD BUTTON' BEHAVIORS
-- Information about what markers have already been visited is stored in a
-- global variable: gNavigationButtonList.  As a global, this variable is
-- available to all navigation behaviors, on any sprite in any movie.
-- gNavigationButtonList has the following structure:
    --   [#stack [...], #index: [...], #forward: [...]]
-- Each of the subLists has the structure:
    --   [[#frame: <integer>, #movie: <movieName>], [...]]
-- #index is not currently exploited.  It provides a list of all markers
-- visited, in the order of their first visit.  It could be used to create
-- a pop-up menu, or to check if a player had visited a particular scene.
-- When the 'Jump Back Button' is activated, the marker nearest to the playback
-- head is appended to the #forward list.  When the 'Forward button'is
-- activated, this last item is copied to a local variable, then removed from
-- the #forward list.  Information concerning the current marker is appended to
-- the #stack, so that users can once again use the 'Jump Back Button'.
-- Going explicitly to "frame x of movie y" triggers the movie's
-- prepareMovie and startMovie handlers.  If the most recently visited
-- marker is in the current movie, the command "go frame x" is used instead.
-- USE OF "PUSH BUTTON" BEHAVIOR
-- The "Push Button" behavior can be used to deal with the rollover and
-- mouseDown states of the "Jump Forward Button".  When this behavior is
-- initialized, it asks each behavior on the same sprite to return a
-- behavior reference, if it happens to be the "Push Button" behavior.  If
-- a reference is returned then the "Jump Forward Button" sets the button's
-- enabled state to indicate whether the #forward list currently contains
    -- frames to jump to.

    Hey there ZeldaFan29,
It sounds like you have some songs that are skipped when using the forward and back buttons on your iPod nano, and that leads me to believe that maybe these songs are skipped over when you are playing your playlist in the iPod as well. • Playback keeps jumping forwards on scrollback

I used scroll back to find a programme on ITV and played it back. Several errors ocucured:
    1) They programme kept jumping forwards to the next ad break. I had to watch the ads then rewind to the point where it jumped forward. This happened about 8 times
    2) Near the end, the programme jumped forward to the end, so I had to start the programme from the start (and watch the adverts) then fast forward to where it jumped from.
    3) Twice it froze completely and I had to restart the programme (and watch the adverts again)
I have watched about 18 sets of adverts but only seen 1 hour of the film! The box was brand new yesterday. Is there anything I can do?
The engineers checked the wiring, signal and setup when they came last week and the week before (a failed attempt to fix the old box). The box was installed and checked by an engineer.

I am using the backwards EPG to activate the ITV player to play an on demand programme.
"Do your other on demand players play normally  (eg 4OD , Demand5 etc) ?  ie is the problem only with the ITV player.
Do other ITV player programmes play oK ?"  I have noticed a problem on channel 5 and other channels during normal play - I cannot "rewind", if i try to go back 12 seconds (or any other time) it takes me back to the start of the programme (ie: from the time I changed to that channel). If I then try to fast forward, it jumps forward to the current time. It seems to be better on BBC.
"Have you checked for any player updates ?" It is up to date and it is brand new box

  • Stabilizing UHD footage on a 1080 timeline.

Has anyone yet come up with a clever workaround to stabilize UHD footage on a 1080 timeline without losing resolution if the warp plugin is scaling up the nested footage in Premiere pro cc?
    /Per

Now I've finally figured it out. I went to bed and woke up with the solution in my head. :-)
I drop my 4k footage on my 1080 timeline and trims it to the desired length. Then I right-click on the footage, and press "Make subclip". Then I will make a new sequence from that subclip by dragging it to the "New Item" icon. This creates a 4k timeline with my trimmed clip. I will then apply the Warp stabilizer and let it do it's thing. When it is done I'll go to the effects controls and choose "Stabilize Only" under borders/framing. That leaves me with a 4k clip that is NOT scaled up, and therefor the very same resolution as when shot. I now simply drag that 4k subclip into my 1080 timeline, and scale it down to what I want, and of cause to a point where it fills the frame at all times

  • Jump Forward

I have one of the original ipods -- lately I've been wanting to "jump forward" (or backward) while listening to a language lesson on my ipod. i see buttons for "go to the beginning" and "go to the end". I've tried the tap on the wheel approach but it does nothing. circling the wheel around adjusts the volume.
perhaps this isn't a function that was implemented??
    thanks!
    G4   Mac OS X (10.4.8)

I'm not sure about the original iPod model but with newer ones you just click the centre select button once and the bar at the bottom will show a diamond shape. Then use the wheel to scroll quickly back or forward.
Can you do this on the first gen iPod?

  • Using 1080i footage in a 720p timeline?

Just curious if anyone out there has used some 1080i footage in a 720p timeline. Does the 1080i stuff convert to 720p very well? Does it look like progressive video? I'm asking because my main camera is the JVC HD100 (720p native) and I want to know if I can match footage from the Sony Z1U (1080i) in a 720p timeline.

Unfortunately, just letting FCP do this will produce pretty unacceptable results, it just drops frames and does not deinterlace.
Shake will do this very nicely, and its recent big price drop makes it an attractive tool to have around. Alternatively, you could use a free utility called MPEG Streamclip from Squared5 (http://www.squared5.com/svideo/mpeg-streamclip-mac.html). Among many other conversion tasks, I've used it's downrezing and deinterlacing capabilities to do exactly what you want (Z1U footage to 720p) and it does a very good job.

  • Edit HD footage in a PAL timeline

    Hello gurus!
I will be editing a commercial with the latest FCP installed on my laptop. The commercial will be shot entirely on a Phantom Camera (1920x1080 HD). I will export the Phantom footage to TGA or Tiff sequences and then import them into FCP. The finished product will be delivered in PAL format.
I guess what we want to do is edit the HD footage in a Pal timeline but have the full 1920x1080 resolution available so as to perform various zooms on the HD footage and still retain PAL quality. The zooms will not be exceeding PAL limit i.e we will not zoom in the HD footage past 720x576 pixels.
Will this work if i just follow the above procedure, import HD footage and use a PAL timeline? Will this retain full HD quality of my footage or will the PAL timeline force the footage into 720x576? Will I probably have to render all the time? I am opting for delivering a title-less finished film in Pal format and then hand it over for the titles to be placed at a later stage.
I am new at HD so any help will be appreciated.
    Thanks
    Tolis

    Thanks a lot you guys,
like you all said, it is as simple as importing HD footage and editing them on a SD timeline. Here's what i did:
I took my image sequences and converted them to ProRes .mov in Quicktime then dropped them into a DV Pal project with the DV Pal Sequence Preset (I tested both High Quality and Proxy and both work in FCP with no need to render) and voila, i have HD footage to pan and zoom around to!
This is what i wanted to do.
I also did a few tests and i am posting the questions that came up in the process.
When i did the test i realized that whichever workflow we devised, i would have to convert my image sequences to video before bringing them into Final Cut!
Any other way to create video files out of image sequences besides QuickTime Pro or Mpeg Streamclip?
Is the HQ ProRes codec or any other ProRes Codec good enough to retain all color space so as if i convert all my Tiff Sequences to it i can use as my new source for online?
I also tried to work with the HD Tiff files directly into FCP and would like to know what would the best Sequence Preset be. I used 1920 x 1080/HDTV 1080i (16:9), square pixels and no field dominance. For the compressor part i found out that if i use uncompressed 10 or 8 bit, i can work without rendering, same with the Apple ProRes but if i put Tiff as a compressor i need to render to work. Can you explain a bit more on what the compressor option refers to in the sequence settings?
Another thing i tried is the Auto Conform option for new sequences but it appears to not work when i drop a tiff file into the sequence. I guess FCP does not consider this video to conform the sequence to.
Again thanks a lot for all the help. I will mark this thread solved once we discuss a bit more the new questions that came up.

  • Aliasing with progressive footage in a progressive timeline

    Anyone ever experience this?
I've rendered out some 1080p Sheer codec source spots... down-converted them to 480p widescreen DVCPRO50 through QuickTime Pro. They look flawless in the QuickTime player. Obviously no fields. Pristine.
Now... when we take the DVCPRO50 footage into FCP. Create a timeline that matches the footage identically (30p 16:9 anamorphic DVCPRO50)... on playback there is all this weird aliasing going on.
Double-checked the footage..... it's definitely 480p. Zero fields. Definitely 29.97... FCP Pro file information shows it is reading it as 29.97progressive. No pulldown.... Sequence is absolutely solid. 29.97.... no fields... and yet on playback we get this weird aliasing like it has fields. Similar, but not quite exactly like watching interlaced footage in a progressive timeline.
Playback is through the Blackmagic Decklink Studio video card. Double-checked all hardware and user settings. All are as they should be....
What the hades is going on?
    Much help would be appreciated...
    Doug

Rather than downconverting with QT, try Compressor with with Frame Control, Resize Filter set to Best.
    *Doug Stringham wrote*:
+Only when it comes into FCP does it look wonky.+
Are you sure that you don't have a footage/sequence settings mismatch? No rendering required?
Are you viewing at 100% in the canvas?
Are you viewing externally on a broadcast monitor?

  • Putting 60p footage in a 25p timeline?

    Hi gang,
I know that CS5 can handle 60p from the GoPro HD camera without problems, but my question is what happens if I try to put footage from this camera in a 25p timeline? Thinking of using a GoPro HD camera as a crashcam, shooting in 60p for slo-mo. Is it feasible to put this footage into a 25p timeline without major problems?
    Thanks for any input!

Sure thing. However, if you want it slo-mo, you'll have to interpret the footage as 25fps (or whatever your desired frame rate is); you have to tell Premiere how many frames you want to playback in a given amount of time (i.e. one second). If you don't interpret the footage, Premiere will simply drop and/or interpolate frames as necessary to match the 60 frames per second of the source footage to the 25 frames per second of the destination sequence.
When imported, right-click your clip and select Modify > Interpret Footage; you'll want to select the "Assume this frame rate" option and enter your desired frame rate.

  • I've accidentally imported and edited my hd footage onto an ntsc timeline.

I've accidentally imported and edited my hd footage onto an ntsc timeline.  I'd like to export it now, but it is not preserving the hd ratio without being letterboxed.  I've changed the settings on the sequence to hd 960x720, but the footage now looks stretched and squeezed in the viewer.  How can I get my footage looking the way it should and on a sequence with the right settings?  Thanks.

While I have you though...what is the difference between the two HD export options when exporting with quicktime converter?  One option has a 16x9 next to it, one doesn't.  I'm assuming since my footage was captured natively 16x9 that I do not need to choose the HD with 16x9 option?  Or should I choose this if I plan on posting to the web, so that it is embedded as and knows to play as a 16x9 HD video online?  Sorry if that is horribly worded and difficult to understand. Thanks.

  • Audio jumping forward when comping

Hi. Is this a Logic 8 bug? I've simultaneously recorded two bass tracks and done a few auto punch ins. Everything was fine but when I went back to my project today, after the first few bars, the audio jumps forward half a bar. Why is this and can I repair it?

Darn! I was afraid of that!! I thought since I entered them as seperate playlists from my iTunes Library, that they would go in as such, and then I could jump forward to locate a particular set of songs...Oh well, maybe with the next generation shuffle Apple creates!!! Thanks for your help!

  • V880 - time jumps forward?

    Hi,
I have a newly installed v880 system. I have a situation where the time on the machine will jump forward by 10 to 15 minutes over the course of a few seconds. When it does this, xntpd which is trying to keep the time synchronized to our main time server quits out and says:

The time will jump forward regardless of whether or not xntpd is running. It's not a gradual drift, the system keeps time for some period (a day, 12 hours, 6 hours...) and then within the span of less than a minute it will gain 10 to 15 minutes on the clock.
The system is SunOS yang 5.8 Generic_108528-18 sun4u sparc SUNW,Sun-Fire-880

It's not even a complex edit - I have literally got one video track and two audio tracks and I can't watch it for more than a few seconds without it freezing or jumping.
I have no other programs running, my footage is captured to an internal disk, but the project file is located on another computer, which I am connected to via a gigabit ethernet - I know I can just copy the project file to my computer, but surely I shouldn't have to do this. I've been running the same system for over a month now and have never had a problem before!
    Cheers
    Adam

Good idea, but I'm sure its not the ethernet port that's causing me trouble, since I tried it in both!
Last night I tried a test. I shut down all six macs that are connected to the raid and then restarted just the quad. I opened the project, which was saved on the raid, and all the media (again saved to the raid) - It worked perfectly (no freezing or dropped frames!)
I then started another mac up and tried to play through the same same media - it was constantly freezing and dropping frames, but the Quad was still working perfectly.
Even when I shutdown the Quad, the media was still dropping frames on the other G5!
It really does seem that one day it all works and then the next it doesn't for no apparent reason - I've posted so many times about these issues and one solution keeps coming back - Fibre Channel cards!
