Footage problems from digitising with Canon XF305 to FCP

I have uploaded my footage no problem from a canon 305 to FCP (7) using log and transfer but when I play back the footage it has lines going through it when the subject is moving. I may have the incorrect settings or something. When I put a clip onto the timeline it says it amends the settings to the clip but the clip remains the same. There are no issues with the camera and uplaoding to avid (i don't have avid but other footage from the same camera was digitised fine).
Help! I can upload a clip tonight as its pretty strange but I'm sure its just my lack of editing wisdom and its probably something really easy to resolve.
Thanks in advance.

No change but i did upload a small clip to youtube from my capture scratch and the lines dont appear :/ weird! http://youtu.be/uOUdrqL4ISc (put it on HD)
Do you have any idea what else cud course the problem?

  • Problem importing footage from Canon XF305 into fcp

I have footage from a card having recorded on a Canon XF305. I literally dragged and dropped card onto my desktop making sure not to change any file names. I am now trying to import this footage from my desktop into fcp. I have downloaded the canon fcp plugin but everytime I try to import the footage using the canon plugin preferences I get an error message which reads... "AA0229" contains unsupported media or has an invalid directory structure. Please choose a folder whose directory structure matches supported media. Can anyone help me??

    Hi there,
I've had no joy with this. Have tried everything. Just can't get footage into fcp any way I try. I have downloaded the plugin but I still get the same error message. "AA0229" contains unsupported media or has an invalid directory structure. Please choose a folder whose directory structure matches supported media.
My work flow is as follows.
Open final cut pro. Go to log and transfer. Go to preferences within the log and transfer window and click on Canon XF plugin. Then go to import. Click on file on my desktop which is labeled as CLIPS001. Then error message comes up.
Memory card was dropped directly onto my laptop and onto a back up drive without changing any file names. Was thinking this would be straight forward.
Any help will be hugely appreciated. Am I missing something simple?

  • Dropped frames on MultiCam editing with Canon XF305 Footage

    Hello,
I recently purchased three Canon XF305 series cameras and have been conducting a series of tests to determine the best recording format and editing workflow. First, does anyone have experience with these new Canon cameras?
Using the log and transfer utility, I've been bringing the files into FCP natively using the canon codec (which is actually mislabeled as a Sony codec). Once in, the footage looks good to edit, without requiring rendering.
However, when I setup a multiclip sequence with the three cameras, the render bar turns green and I'm getting all kinds of dropped frames on playback. Is this a computer processor issue, drive speed, or codec? The multiclip is the only time I have trouble -- once I collapse the multiclip, I can edit fine without any drop frames.
I've done tests using 5400x and 7200x drives using both firewire 800 and eSata, no changes. I believe that rules out drive speed.
Is this a processor issue? What can I do to resolve this, as our workflow involves 100+ hours of footage from 3 cameras.
    Thanks in advance

but my experience with the 305's in ProRes is that it makes it a bigger file(more than double)
Of course it will. XDCAM is a highly compressed format. ProRes is a larger file type, higher data rate. It will be larger. Did you not notice that the ProRes footage from the 5D were also about 5 times larger?
    and still needs to render.
If you worked in a ProRes timeline, then you shouldn't need to render. If you still do, than something is wrong. Create the file...make a new sequence, cut this into that sequence...FCP will make the settings match. If it does this, and you STILL need to render....you did something wrong.
when I actually converted to ProRes, it seemed like it was more taxing on the computer, took up twice the hard drive, and more than three times the time to transcode compared to native.
It is less taxing to actually edit with. GOP formats require the computer to constantly process the GOP footage to show you frames...since there are no real frames in any GOP format. Well, there are 3 frames every second, then a bunch of pictures, and the computer has to guess what is next by looking at the frames, and then the pictures, and make up the in-between. PRORES is a full frame format...no guessing, no computing. And larger files are not more taxing on the computer...they might require faster hard drives...and larger ones, but they are less taxing. Yes, longer to convert than native, but when that is done, things are easier.
But, do what you want. I just gave a suggestion.

  • Can you capture while shooting with canon XL2 in fcp on Macbook pro

Is there a way to capture or record directly onto macbook pro hd thru final cut pro, or thru log and capture window while shooting with Canon XL2.
    If yes, how, please!
    Thanks,
    Zia

As usual, Jim is correct. There's a reasonable possibility that something could go wrong with the capture; without a tape backup you would be hosed.
Here's what I do for live multi-camera recording (it works as well for single camera setups):
    • Connect all cameras to a video switcher/DVE
    • Connect the switcher's output to a DVCam VTR
    • Connect all audio sources to an audio mixer
    • Connect the audio mixer's output to the same DVCam VTR
    • Connect the DVCam's Firewire output to my Mac
With this set up I can switch/mix live between cameras while recording to the VTR and simultaneously to the Mac in FCP.
Not only do I end up with the live mix recorded to tape and captured in FCP, I also run 'safety' tapes in each camera for additional backup in case the TD (me) makes an error.

  • Problems printing wirelessly with Canon PIXMA iP4500

I have a MacBook Pro 15 in 2.8GHz Core 2 Duo with 4 Gb RAM and I’m running Mac OSX 10.5.7.
    1. My Canon PIXMA iP4500 inkjet printer used to work perfectly as a printer attached to the USB port of my Airport Extreme Model A1034 modem, when my computer communicates with the modem either wirelessly or via an ethernet connection between the computer and Airport, but lately it isn’t working.
    2. When I try to print the printer icon shows up in the dock and when I click on it a Canon iP4500 series printer dialog box pops up and says the Printer is Ready but the status of the document is “Stopped”.
    3. If I click on “Resume” and error message appears: “Operation could not be completed. client-error-not-possible”. This happen repeatedly.
    4. I recycled the modem, turned the printer off and on (and did those things in reverse) and ran Airport Utility, all to no avail. I also deleted the printers in my Print & Fax System Preferences dialog box, downloaded the latest CUPS driver from Canon (ver 10.1.0.0), and recreated the printer (called Canon iP4500 Series).
    5. Network diagnostics says it can connect to the internet over either my airport or Ethernet connection but it cannot connect to the Canon iP4500 series.riousbprint.tcp.local.
    6. Also when I run the Canon IJ Printer Utility from the Canon iP4500 series printer dialog box a Printer List dialog box shows up with no USB-attached printers listed
    7. I can print if I connect the printer directly to my MacBook Pro, so I don’t think it’s a driver or USB cable problem. Curiously, when I connect the printer directly to the computer the Print & Fax dialog box automatically creates a second printer called Canon iP4500 series-1. If I use the original Canon iP4500 Series printer in this setup it says “No pages found”.
Basically I’m stumped at this point and would appreciate some help. Unfortunately, I’m on a 3-mo sabbatical and do not have my original Canon printer software with me so I cannot reinstall the printer app unless someone knows how I can obtain it. Similarly I cannot reinstall Leopard either, though it doesn’t seem likely I should need to. Happy to try anything else though.

Hello Basil and welcome to Apple Discussions.
Reading your post, it would suggest there is a problem with the USB of the Airport Extreme, but I don't believe this to be case as there is not much that could go wrong with them. Instead I think there is something not right with the transport (TCP) protocols that get the data from your Mac to the Airport USB.
At this stage, I suggest you look at installing version 5.23 of the Gutenprint driver. This version supports your iP4500 and will help to narrow the cause of the current symptom.
Before installing the Gutenprint driver, I suggest we trash all the current Canon drivers you have installed - we can add them again later if need be.
Open Finder and navigate to Mac HD/Library/Printers/Canon/BJPrinter. Trash all the contents of this folder and empty the trash.
Next, navigate to the Mac HD/Library/Receipts folder. You will see the Canon iP4500 xxx.pkg and another one for the CUPS driver you installed. Trash both of these and empty also.
Now open System Preferences > Print & Fax and delete all the Canon printers in the list (highlight and hit ' - '). It would also be handy to reset the printing system, so while in Print & Fax, move your mouse over the now empty printers list, hold down your Control key and click (or right-click if you can). Click on Reset printing system when it appears.
Now install the Gutenprint drivers. When this is done, restart your Mac and try adding the iP4500 again. This time, after you select the Airport shared printer, you will have to open Print Using and search for the 'Canon iP4500 - Gutenprint v5.2.3'. Select this and now try printing. Let me now the result.

  • Problems reconnecting media with Canon C300 MXF files

Working from Canon C300 MXF files imported into up to date premiere cc (not sure if through the media browser or through the import function). We have three stations working (one AE station and two edit bays) but only two stores of the media so we've been backing up the media onto a third drive so our other editor can work. No problems with the first editor station and AE station, they both have all the media. Our third station however...
Basically the issue we're having is certain files won't reconnect to their MXFs, even though we've maintained the file structure and all associate canon files in their folders. We're getting diagonal shading across the clips in the timeline as well as the little triangle in the corner of the clip that signifies it's the end (and sometimes beginning) of the media. When we try to play those clips they are just a black screen. But when we try to match frame, it'll bring up the clip in the viewer and play fine. The media is not technically "offline," just not playing. When I try to reconnect the media I have to make it offline first and then reconnect but continue to have the same problem. It seems like an issue with merging the spanned clip across multiple .mxf files because there's no issue with clips that are not spanned. I tried isolating the individual clips from the .xml files that tell premiere to merge them and they reconnect fine up until the end of that file and then I've got diagonal lines for the rest of the clip again. I've tried everything I can think of and we're wasting so much money on this second editor not being able to work on anything because of this. Any insight would be most appreciated.

Ah I see, I read through your link, I get that reverting could help except that all our other stations are running 7.2.2 so we'd have incongruity between stations. Whats strange is the other two stations are running fine, no problems. It's just with this other station that doesn't have all the media that's having the issue.

  • 1080p export from FCE with Canon 60d

I'm shooting 1080p 30fps on my Canon 60D DLSR.  Everything imports fine and I can edit the footage without issue.  However, I have been working with video effects and noticed that the videos I'm outputting are heavily interlaced.  When I view the rendered footage in the Canvas, it looks great with no apparent interlacing.  But when I export the video, it seems to be exporting it in an interlaced format and when there is fast motion, it looks terrible.  Can someone review my settings and let me know where I'm going wrong?  In Easy Setup I don't see a 1080p option, so I've selected one of the others.
    Easy Setup:
    AVCHD-Apple Intermediate Codec 1920x1080i60
    Export Settings:
    MP4
    H.264
Data Rate: 5000kbits/sec optimized for Download
    1920 x 1080 HD Letterbox
    Frame Rate 29.97
    Key Frame every 24 frames
    192kbps audio
    Thanks!!!

    DJ,
It looks like the OP is about six months old, but I would have to ask how you are getting the clip from the 60D into FCE and what codec is. The 60D records in H.264 which is not compatible with FCE (just taking a guess as to where you should begin looking).
If you post your sequence settings and your clip properties maybe someone can get a better understanding of what the full issue is.

  • Printing problems from acrobat with recieved pdf's

    Hi everybody,
We have a problem with printing PDF files on windows 7 32 bit. This only happens with files that have come through one persons emails. When you open the PDF file from outlook it works fine but when you print it it crashes the print spooler service and the print job gets stuck in the print queue then you have to go into the queue and manually delete it. When I open pdf files that i have downloaded it all seems to work fine and will print.
Any help would be muchly appreciated
Also from this email you can email to an xp machine and it prints but if you email to the other windows 7 machine it does the same thing. But the other windows 7 machine can print thier PDF's from thier emails
    Thanks
    Jake

Quite frankly, it would really help the Adobe Acrobat team if you at least provided information as to what version of Acrobat or Reader you were using, what type of printer (manufacturer, model, and whether PostScript or not), etc.
We are not aware of a general problem of the type you describe and such information would help us track the issue down to assist you and any other users.

  • Margin problem when printing with canon printer

When I try to print a pages document on my canon pixma ip4500 printer (which they sold me at the apple store when i bought the laptop), the bottom margin does not appear. There is a space only about half an inch under the last line of text. Everything looks fine on the screen, but i cant get to print it with a bottom margin. and i don't even know how to set it manually...
ps, the printer isnt set for a 8 1/2 by 14 sheet, it really is for a 8 1/2 by 11
    Help me please!

That’s going to depend on what the document consists of. If it’s a single element such as a graphic or PDF, reduce the size. If it’s text, you can use a smaller point size, slightly reduce paragraph spacing, make a headline smaller, etc. If it’s text and graphic, reduce the size of the graphic(s) a little. But first, set your document margins to agree with your printer margins.

  • Canon XF100 and FCP X

I would like to know if the the most recent plugin from Canon now makes transferring files from camcorders like Canon FX100- to FCP X relatively straightforward if one is using MacBook Pro-version 10.6.8

    One Of The Many wrote:
So... does anyone see a reason why purchasing this iMac model would be a bad idea?  Anyone want to make a case for a Mac Pro?  For waiting for the upcoming new Mac Pro?
It's hard to make the case for or against the new MP when we have no information yet on price – or any hands-on reports from editors.
But it's hard to see how the iMac would be a bad choice – a great display – and processing power that could easily handle the kind of projects you describe as well as the AVCHD format the Canon shoots. And whatever the MP ends up priced at, it is hard to imagine it not costing significantly more than your configured iMac – particularly if you want an equivalent display.
    Good luck.

  • Log and Transfer with Canon 5d mark iii footage on OS 10.5

FCP is not recognizing my SCDH card in the Log and Transfer window
and I'm wondering why this is.
I am running OS 10.5 - and there were no additional EOS drivers available
on Canon's website for my OS.
I am shooting with the new 5D mark iii. When I first got the Rebel T2i a few years
back, I had the same problem and installing the Canon driver worked to
get the card to show up in the Log and Transfer window.
Does anyone have tips for how to get my Log and Transfer window to recognize
a card from the 5D mark iii?
    Thanks.

    Hi, guys.
In my experience, the best native format is ProRes MOV while the 5D Mark III recorded file is H.264 MOV. So I have been using a H.264 to ProRes MOV Converter to help me change the 5D Mark III H.264 MOV files before importing to FCP on my iMac. I found the way from Google. The below is the link.

  • Raw file rendering problems with Canon EOS 5D in Aperture 3

Since upgrading to Aperture 3, I have had serious problems with the rendering of Canon EOS 5D (not Mark II/III) RAW files. With Aperture 2, both the preview and full-sized images looked basically the same as the original images as displayed on the camera's display, without any adjustments.
With Aperture 3, each preview images initially look fine after import, but when Aperture re-renders it from the RAW file (e.g. when displaying the full-size image), the colors are drastically intensified, and the hue is shifted generally towards green/blue. I've checked the RAW Fine Tuning, and it is set to the defaults. If I turn the default RAW Fine Tuning settings all the way down, the image is still not at all like the preview from the camera - it becomes much darker and stays too blue/green, with washed-out colors.
A friend with a Canon EOS 5D MkII also recently upgraded her Mac from Aperture 2 to 3, and hasn't experienced any problems. We've tried importing RAW files from my (non-MkII) camera to her Mac (with the default RAW Fine Tuning settings), and get the same results as with my own Mac (i.e. strange colors), so the problem seems to be related to the camera model.
I've also noticed that scanned greyscale tiff images (including images that were originally imported under Aperture 2) are changed when first displayed by Aperture 3 - they become darker and more contrasty, with lots of information lost in the shadow areas.
I've also tried removing Aperture preferences, Aperture itself, and re-installing from download, with no change in the problem. (Aperture is the current latest version, 3.3.2.)
    Has anyone experienced similar problems?

    I'm having the same problem.
iMac running Mac OS X Lion 10.7.4 and Aperture 3.3.2.  Workflow is importing through Canon's DPP and then using referenced images in Aperture.  The images look great in LR4, or Canon's DPP but are flat and dingy in Aperture.
There's a free preset that goes part way to fixing it at http://theapertureblog.com/2011/02/10/my-aperture-workflow-for-working-with-cano n-5d-mark-ii-files/
but as good as this fix is, it doesn't quite do the trick. [not being a hater, and not saying I can do better]
    I just got back from shoooting 1,500 images with a 5DMii and a T2i using Canon 24-105L IS, 70-200 2.8L, 50 1.8 and a Sigma 120-400 and the T2i images are not just better, they're in a different league.
I've tried shooting in Faithful, Neutral and also toggling these presets in different ways and still can't get Aperture to match what I see on the camera's screen or in other Apps.  I love the interface and DB of Aperture, but what's the point of using it if it doesn't produce and awesome image in the end?

  • Import failed with canon 6d footage after latest update

After I updated to Final Cut X 10.0.8, I've been getting "Import Failed" messages during the import process when taking in footage from my Canon 6D
The import process also seems to be going very slow (slower than usual)
I've tried duplicating the SD card locally on the hard drive and re-importing, but have gotten the same results.
If I click OK on the error dialogue box, the import will continue. but another box will pop up every 5 to 10 minutes or so
    Any ideas?

Hey Russ, it actually works fine for me too the few times I've used it but I point it out as a common denominator with people who have trouble importing that way. Separating the .mov files into their own folder eliminates the camera and card reader, both much slower than just transfering files from a connected drive. But I'm doing newspaper video with Canon DSLRs - including 5D3 video, similar to 6D - almost daily where speed is of the essence and this is by far the most foolproof method I've come across.
