Footnotes and Endnotes greyed

I am trying to add endnotes to my document but I cannot select the drop down menus to do so. I tried adding a superscripted number first, selecting and unselecting text, but I cannot click the drop down menu.
Any thoughts??

The difference is logical.
Notes apply to the main text layer of Word Processing documents.
There is no such a layer in a Layout document.
Every text block has the same status.
I agree that some explanations in the Help are not precise enough and fail to make the difference.

How to place footnotes and endnotes on the same page?

I have a word document with nearly about 64 footnotes and 500 endnotes. Endnotes are basically references guiding to other sources which are quoted in the book.
My client has asked me to place all endnotes (references) of each page at the bottom of the page itself along with footnotes, but they shouldn't merge with footnotes. The reason for that he related that it makes easier for the reader to check the reference of the quote immediately at the bottom of the page, instead of flipping over all the pages and going to the end of the book everytime.
How to do this? Can anyone enlighten me?

Uppercase commas with footnotes and endnotes?

In some non-fiction Pages documents I want to add endnotes citing scientific papers written by others that support the statements I am making.
I know how to do this by adding footnotes or endnotes through the Inspector and I know how to have those numbers be consecutive. So far so good.
When I add two footnote numbers, such as 1 and 2, those smaller-font numbers sit in the top area of the line. So far so good.
But....if I want to add a comma between the numbers, that commas ends up on the bottom part of the sentence line where commas and periods
normally land. That's not where I want the commas.
How do I add a comma, or hyphen for that matter, between the two smaller-font footnote numbers, without that comma or hyphen ending up
underneath those footnote numbers?

Can you use footnotes AND endnotes in the same document?

I just found out today that I have to have both footnotes (for comments and annotations) and section endnotes (for citations), to follow the formatting guidelines for my thesis... do you know if it's possible to use both with Pages '09? I've spent a long time formatting as it is and really don't want to transfer my document to Word or anything (since I'll lose some of my settings)... I would appreciate any suggestions! Thanks!

The style of footnote/endnote is part of the Document settings so it appears that only one applies per document.
You could switch between them and copy the endnotes as ordinary text into a document which has footnotes.
That would be the only workaround I can think of.

So, I have all of my references in an EndNote file, and I am now using them in my Pages document. I know that I can do the references page with this, but as far as in-text citations are concerned, I was wondering if I could do footnotes using EndNote input. And if I can do this, how would I go about doing that? Thanks!

Create the footnote first and then put the citation into the footnote. Endnote cannot access the Insert Footnote command, so you do that then insert the reference you want there.

Footnotes and Bibliography?

It appears that Apple has overlooked the ability to create footnotes and a bibiography in iBooks Author. (yet it's specifically targeted at the academic textbook market) Can this possibly be true???

I accidentally found out that iBooks Author will support footnotes! But you have to create them in another application first.
So here's my story. I use Scrivener 2.2 to create my books. But I really want to use iBooks Author to spice up the final product. I had text for a book typed in Scrivener, with footnotes already created. I copied and pasted them into iBooks Author and lo and behold, all of the footnotes were insterted at the end of the section in iBooks Author as endnotes!
The footnote numbers appeared by the text, and then at the end of the section, the footnote number appeared along with the note, I was also able to go to a footnote and decrease the size of the footnote number (which I like to be smaller than the chapter text). Heck, I'll just show you...
Here are screenshots (it's an old journal of my that I am footnoting). First screenshot is what it looks like in Scrivener, text on the left, footnotes on the right:
I naïvely copied and pasted this text into IBooks. Lucky for me, this is how it came out in iBooks Author:
I didn't realize that I had found a work-around for this footnote problem until I tried adding more footnotes while working in iBooks Author (which led me to these posts). So here's proof that if you create footnotes in another program, at least iBooks Author will recognize and create footnotes for you and put them at the end of the section. I figure it's better than nothing, but not very elegant for such an elegant program. Again, I am also able to change the font size of any footnote number or the text in a footnote.
By the way, if you use this copy and paste method, just make sure you copy and paste an entire chapter all at once. When I copied and pasted paragraph by paragraph, it reordered the numbers back to footnote 1 in each paragraph, and you don't want to re-number them by hand.
If anyone else has tried copying and pasting with another word processor with the same result, please let us all know.
You might be thinking, what's the point of all of this if I have to use two word processors? I think of iBooks Author as my last step, not a word processor. I don't plan on creating my book drafts in it (I've tried, I don't think it's very efficient), I've decided I just want to use iBoooks Author to layout the final content that I created using another word processor, one that has all of the tools I need for efficient writing. Pages, Word or maybe even TextEdit might also work for writing your draft. Since the stuff I write needs footnotes or endnotes, I really don't know of any other options at present if I want to use iBooks Author.

I updated my iPhone and now none of the music on it will play. When I sync, I can change teh music selections on it, but they all won't play and are greyed out. Only the Playlists, Artists, Albums are black font, but all songs are grey and won't play

I recently updated my iPhone 3G to 5.0 (9A334) and it was somehow interrupted during restoration, or at least that is what it tells me. But it keeps making a new restore and adding it to a list, but never gets through without getting interrupted. anyways, I kind of got through all that, but now all the music on the iPhone won't play and is greyed out. I had some APPs greyed out, but they are not as important. Music is a huge investment in my life and this part of it has gone silent. I SYNC with my iMac. Resyncing doesn't help. I can change the selections, but can never get them to play on the iPhone.
Any ideas?

I'm having the same issue, i restored my phone to Factory settings, even tried restoring it to my backup, half of my music bought from itunes won't play on my iphone and i'm super annoyed, this only happened once i updated to ios 7.2 so i assume its another glitch to go with my imessages not sending, getting sick of this.

My Internal drive will not show up on the desktop, and appears greyed out in the finder.
it shows up fine in disk utility and i have tried to repair permissions. This runs normally, there does not seem to be any problems with the drive itself.
if i unhide the hidden system folders using terminal, it appears on my desktop again, but greyed out.
any ideas how i can fix this?

Try deleting the Finder .plists. You need to look in your user Library/Preferences for the .plist. Hold down the option key while using the Finder “Go To Folder” command. Enter ~/Library/Preferences. Move the .plist(s) to your desktop.
Relaunch Finder and test. If it works okay, delete the plist(s) from the desktop.
If the Finder is the same, return the .plist(s) to where you got them from, overwriting the newer ones.
If you prefer to make your user library permanently visible, use the Terminal command found below.

You might want to bookmark the command. I had to use it again after I installed 10.8.2. I have also been informed that if you drag the user library to Finder it will remain visible.
If that doesn't work, try setting up another admin user account to see if the same problem continues. If Back-to-My Mac is selected in System Preferences, the Guest account will not work. The intent is to see if it is specific to one account or a system wide problem. This account can be deleted later.
Isolating an issue by using another user account
If the problem is still there, try booting into the Safe Mode. Shut down the computer and then power it back up. Immediately after hearing the startup chime, hold down the shift key and continue to hold it until the gray Apple icon and a progress bar appear. The boot up is significantly slower than normal. This will reset some caches, forces a directory check, and disables all startup and login items, among other things. If the system operates normally, there may be 3rd party applications which are causing a problem. Try deleting/disabling the third party applications after a restart by using the application unistaller. For each disable/delete, you will need to restart if you don't do them all at once.

Looking for a script to connect bodytext to footnote and cross-references

Need to do the following:
I was provided with separate (tagged-text) files: bodytext, (foot)notes and cross-references. Now I am looking for a solution (script?) that can do the following:
to restore the connection between the body-text, the footnotes and te cross-references after placing these in a document in Indesign.
The cross-references should appear (in anchored text-frames) in the margin and the notes in a separate frame at the bottom of the page. If possible in the same way as footnotes in Indesign appear, but in a separate frame to be able to do some more formatting than native footnotes would accept.
I have tested the plugin: Side Heads from InTools, and tis works well with Indesign files tthat contain footnotes. But this doesn't work with separately placed footnotes from a tagged-text-file, as they re not knotted together.
I can't do any scripting myself.
I would appreciate any help, and I am looking forward to your response...

I see 10.6.3 in your profile---is tthat what you are trying to load? If so, it won't work. No PowerPC Mac like your G5 can run a Mac OS version higher than 10.5.8

Settings>General>Accessibility>Increase Contrast
Settings>General>Accessibility>Bold Text
are some settings that may help.
There are other settings there ...they may not be to your liking but try them all anyways.

Thanks so much! I am backing up the entire computer now with an external hard drive - this should be fine right? And surely if I am backing up the whole computer these projects/videos will be backed up too? I wasn't sure how to do this any other way and I am clearly not great with tech issues.
