For 2 iPods on one PC, one iTunes or two?

My wife is getting an iPod for xmas, and we'll use the same PC (WinXP). Should we share the same iTunes, perhaps with separate playlists, or should we each have our own iTunes? We do not have separate user accounts for our PC/WinXP. thanks, ron

  • Help for ipod touch not recognized by itunes

I am posting this to try to help others who have N ipod touch and windows is showing as a digital camera and itunes does not recognize after updating to 8.2.1. I tried EVERYTHING (uninstalling itunes, reinstalling, downgrading itunes, removing pics out of storage folder, restoring ipod, searching google for drivers for ipod, trying to find the right driver using device manager, made sure apple mobile was on and working, checked device manager under universal serial bus controls and apple mobile device was not listed, tried plugging in nano n itunes recognized it immediately... I found that alot of ipod touch owners had the exact same problem when upgrading itunes, but could not find a solution that worked..after about a week of trying fixed the problem..
Download the newest version of itunes, dont install just download the itunessetup file, then go to google and search for and download 7-zip and after installing 7-zip right click on itunes setup file and click 7-zip extract, go to the extracted folder and double click on apple mobile device then repair it, restart comp (mine still wasnt working so i tried one more time) went back to extract folder and double clicked on apple mobile device and uninstalled and then reinstalled then went to device manager and looked under universal serials bus controls and to my suprise apple mobile device WAS FINALLY listed, plugged in ipod and opened itunes and there it was, my ipod

I tried what you said to do and it didn't work.

  • Using one iPhone with iTunes on two PCs

Hi. Is it possible to use one iPhone with iTunes [one user account] on two PCs?
I have a desktop at home, but I'm unable to use it to update my iPhone software. I've tried several times to get to the bottom of the problem, but when I update my phone, it goes into recovery mode. As a result, I loose everything on my phone. I eventually stopped updating my phone, but now I can't get some apps to work because my iphone software are not up-to-date.
I have now authorized my PC at work in order to update my phone. It has done it successfully, but I have lost my music. Everything else is fine. Will I be able to add my music files using the PC at home?
If it works, from now on I will use my PC at work to update and back-up my phone. I know I will probably loose my music every time I do this, but it is the only way around this problem. It just means adding my music files again at home from time to time.

You can sync an iPhone with iTunes on another computer but not for any iTunes content, and you can transfer photos from a single computer only.
In regards to iTunes content, an iPhone can be synced or manually managed with music and videos with an iTunes library on a single computer ONLY. When transferring any iTunes content and photos from another computer, all iTunes content and photos transferred from a different computer will be erased from the iPhone first. If you don't have Sync Music selected under the Music tab for your iPhone sync preferences with iTunes and you don't have manually manage music and videos selected either with iTunes on another computer, you can sync away. If you transfer photos from another computer, all photos transferred from a different computer will be erased from the iPhone first.
The reason you can manually manage music and videos with iTunes on multiple computers with most iPods is because most iPods support disk mode, which the iPhone does not support. Disk mode is not supported with the iPhone, the iPod Touch, and the iPad.

  • Apps won't sync for Ipod Touch 5th gen and Itunes 11

I need some suggestions on how to fix this. I have removed and reinstalled itunes with no success.
I updated Itunes and now I can't sync apps on the ipod. I am manually selecting the apps. It syncs apps for another 4th gen ipod but wont for the newer one.
It will sync music but not apps.

Yes I have synced before with no problem to the new Ipod.
    Music is syncing okay.
In the APP tab in itunes it thinks it has synced the apps, they just haven't actually appeared on the ipod.
The apps have synced to an older ipod.
I updated Itunes, I was going to try to go back to the earlier verision of Itunes but because of another issue (no hard drive space) I deleted my restore points and can't get back earlier itunes.

  • Two iphones one me account one calendar one set of itunes and two sets of

    ...contacts
is this possible with logging onto one or more accounts.
Basically we just want to keep the two iphones contacts separate.
Ive put the itunes stuff in the shared folder, all the calendar stuff runs through the me account but im not sure the cleanest way of keeping the contacts separate either by putting subgroups or another method
if anyone has got a really slick way of doing this or even a non-slick way then I would be most grateful
    J

I don't think MobileMe lets you sync subgroups, although you may want to chat with their support and check.
You can sync a subset of contacts, but only if you sync through iTunes. I think I just responded to someone who was trying to BOTH sync through MM and sync a subset through iTunes, and they didn't seem very happy with the results, so I wouldn't advise that.
All your contacts are merged in Address Book on the computer, right?
    You might try this:
Set up two groups in Address Book on the computer, one for each phone. Let MobileMe sync everything and accept having the extra contacts on your phone--they don't take up much space. But the groups should also sync, and then you each can use the appropriate group on your phone. It looks like once you go into the group on the phone, it will stay there until you deliberately move back to All Contacts.

  • Options for iPod not showing up in iTunes

i've had my iPod classic for about 5 months, but when i plugged my Nano into my computer it would recognize it under "Devices" and have all the things under it. But when ever i plug in my Classic, it doesn't have anything under it (i.e. "Music", "Videos", "Photos", etc).
Can anyone help me out here????

you know when you plug in your iPod, it shows up under "Devices". And under that, there are options like "Music", "Playlists", "Videos", "etc". When i click on the Disclosure button like you said, all that does is make the list minimize.
You previsouly wrote they were not even there but you wanted to see them.

  • Solution for Ipod not beeing recognized by iTunes

Since 2 months or so I tried to figure out why my iPOD nano (2nd gen) isn't recognized by iTunes. And today I found the simple answer: Windows gave it the Driveletter B: when I changed it manually to R: (I have a lot of drives) it was suddenly recognized. It seems iTunes doesn't recognize devices with the old two Floppy-drive Letter A: and B:. So If your Ipod isn't recognized by your iTunes check if it got the wrong drive-letter.

do you know how to reset it? if you do then do that, when you see the apple logo hold the "select key" (the circle in the middle) and the "play/pause" button--> then connect it to your MAC or PC.

  • What are the specs for iPod video

i wish to manually convert .mov (video with audio) to vPod format.
anyone know where there is a list of the specs required, movie size, format, audio format?
i'm trying to figure out the following:
i have two movies of like nature. i drop ,them both in iTunes. i tell iTunes to convert for iPod and it says one does not need conversion. i am trying to figure out why the other does. they are both 44.1/h.264.
what is the movie size spec and all the specs for QT to vPod conversion? (i want do to it manually.)
i think i have it, is this correct: 320x180 (16:9). i assume vPod can play both 48.hz audio and that that does not have to be converted to 44.1 (both aac)?

    QT Kirk is simply saying
you can make the file you dropped on the script in
order to make it uneditable editable once again by
loading the file in a hexidecimal editor utility and
"zeroing out" the code that makes it uneditable.
yes, i wanted to know which file to edit the script or the 'locked' movie --the .mov, thanks.
    .mov
    Format: AAC,Stereo (L R), 44.100kHz, H.264 Decoder,
    391 x 216, Millions
    FPS: 29.97
    Data Size: 58.25
    Data Rate: 536.90 kbits/sec
    Normal Size: 391 x 216 pixels
    Current Size: 391 x 216 pixels
    (Actual)
The information cited does not include information regarding
the H.264 profile used to create it. If created using the QT
"Movie to QuickTime Movie > H.264" export option,
then the file would not be iPod compatible since this
workflow employs the "Main" profile. In a similar
manner, if the file was created using the QT "Movie
to MPEG-4" Export option, it would have been created
using either the "Main" or "Baseline" profile.
However, based on your dimensions, iTunes expects the
file to be created using the "Baseline Low Compexity"
profile and proceeds to correct the situation.
how can you do that via QTP expert options? if you can. i create a lot of web movies and wish to 'feed 2 birds with one piece of bread'. (i like birds.
    if these are the only
conversion for iPod tools apple offers...
    why?
    QT Pro/iTunes currently
offers the use of two H.264 iPod compatible,
automatically adaptive workflows (Baseline LC and
Baseline) and QT Pro additionally offers one full
manual iPod compatible H.264 workflow (Baseline
profile) and one full manual MPEG-4 workflow. As to
why the QT "Movie to iPod" and iTunes workflows are
auto-adaptive, most users simply want to have iPod
compatible files when they want them and don't want
to learn how to make them properly with respect to
each compression format and/or profile requirement
and/or special case considerations (dimensions, data
rates, frame rates, key frame frequency, aspect
    ratio, macroblock efficiency considerations, etc).
yes, i wish to... well, i said that above, create web and ipod in 'one fell swoop'. i suppose these ipod auto-adaptive modes will work for web, but i'd rather use the expert options. i would like to "learn how to make them properly".
    > ok .m4v is h.264.
    Rather loosely stated. The
".m4v" extension refers to the file container while
H.264 refers to the actual video compression
algorithm. In this case the H.264 video format is
specifically stored in this file container. One the
other hand, the ".mp4" file container is a more
generic MPEG-4 file container commonly used for
either MPEG-4 or H.264 (MPEG-4 AVC) video compressed
files. And, at the other end of the scale, the ".mov"
file container is the most generic since it can
basically contain any "supported" compression format
to include either MPEG-4/AAC or H.264/AAC iPod
compatible files. One key to remember here is that
file containers, like the compression formats that
they can contain, have specific "characteristics."
For instance, ".m4v" and ".mp4" file containers can
have one external piece of graphic "artwork"
associated with it (as seen in iTunes), but the
    ".mov" container cannot.
i did not know that .mp4 also served for h.264. the graphic container of .m4v i had sort of noticed, however i did not or had not for .mov, thanks.
Your file did not conform to
the required "Baseline LC" profile and so iTunes
converted it. Since the "LC" profile defaults to a
video data rate on the order of 1500 Kbps, your file
size was nearly doubled for the specific duration of
    your clip.
i'm not sure i understand why my data rate was converted where a lesser data rate was not. (536 vs. 262)
thanks very much for this 'training'.

  • I Got An Idea For Ipod Accesories

i was thinkin, wouldent it be great to have an ipod cover what you could draw on with pens, and wash off and re-design

I, however think this is a good idea. The cases available for iPod's, especially new ones, lack any sort of creativity or individuality. Iv had to put up with some crap clear silicone case for my iPod video because i am unable to get any sort of neat case for it, and, being a creative person myself, would lvoe the chance to design my own case.
If you stamp your identity on your music sotred on your ipod, why not stamp your identity on the cover covering it.

  • Remote for ipod touch

is there a way to use remote for ipod touch and iphone with only bluetooth?
i'm running 3.1 os for ipod touch and i have itunes 9

If you mean using the remote app for controlling itunes with your touch using only bluetooth, as others have said, that's a no. This might be an ignorant suggestion, but someone who knows more about it can maybe post after me. If you're connecting your macbook to the internet with an ethernet cable rather than a wifi router, can you set up a macbook as a wifi connection spot so that your ipod is connecting directly to the macbook via wifi? I would imagine you could use the remote app then.
I also sort of thought you were asking if there was a way to control your ipod touch using a remote via bluetooth, and that's also a no, but you can use a remote with a dock connector.

Same as you would if you bought a pc; copy everything from your old computer to your new one.  Then you can just sync everything from the new computer, as you did with the old one.

Contact iTunes support and explain your situation to them.  They may let you redownload it at no cost.

  • How do i get itunes or any other program for ipod to play one song and then stop instead of contiuing playing. I need it to be in the same playlist and ready to play the next song when I press play?

how do i get itunes or any other program for ipod to play one song and then stop instead of contiuing playing. I need it to be in the same playlist and ready to play the next song when I press play?

Good luck.  I tried to do this to cue sound effects for a theater, and never found anything.  iTunes will definitely *not* do this, nor was I able to find any player that would play one song at a time in a single playlist.
In my case, I ended up using AutoHotkey to tie individual tracks to the keys on an external keypad. This was an excellent solution for my problem, but I don't think AHK runs on Macs.
One workaround is to make a folder, and fill it with *shortcuts* to the songs you want (ie, the actual files).  You can change the names to start with numbers to get them in the right order.  Then if you double-click on one it will play just that song.  You'll still have to double-click on each song.
Might be a good time to learn AppleScript   It would  also be pretty easy to write a Java app to do this.
