For 2nd time today I have restarted Firefox & upgraded to 6.0.2 BUT when I go back into Firefox it states You are not using the latest version, please Upgrade

After Firefox has been opened once and then you try and open it again, a message appears stating - Firefox is already running, but is not responding. To open a new window, you must first close the existing Firefox process, or restart your computer. It is then NOT possible to close Firefox, so I restart the computer, but before it will allow that I have to force - End Program - NetscapeDispatchWnd - End Now.

See Firefox is already running but is not responding.

• I tried to upgrade to the latest version of Firefox but on the Firefox start page is still says "you are not on the latest version of Firefox, upgrade now"

I tried to upgrade to the latest version of Firefox but on the Firefox start page it still says "you are not on the latest version of Firefox, upgrade now". The start page looks different so maybe it did upgrade but why does the reminder still show?

You may see that message below the Google search box on www.google.com/firefox which is the old Firefox default home page. It appears that page is no longer being maintained by Google. You appear to have the latest Firefox version.
If you want the Google search page as your home page, change your home page to about:home (a new, updated version of the old Google/Firefox home page is now built-in to Firefox).

Your home page is likely google.com/firefox which is no longer maintaned. Please change your homepage to something else, like about:home. https://support.mozilla.com/en-US/kb/How%20to%20set%20the%20home%20page

• I have upgraded twice but home page still says "your not using the latest version. Upgrade now"

When I open Firefox and the home page comes up it tells me that i am not using the latest version and should upgrade. I also run into a stop scrip issue when I go to clear the history. It usually takes three tries to clear the history.

I would have to guess that your home page is pointing to one of the what's new pages from a previous Firefox release. Nothing to be concerned with here. You can change your home page to point wherever you'd like by clicking Preferences/Options->General and changing the home page option.
For the stop script history issue, do you know what web page is causing the issue?

• I have updated firefox 2 times since the last upgrade, but when I open it I still get the message "You are not on the latest version of Firefox Upgrade Now". I have downloaded and installed it so I'm stumped. Any suggestions?

I am running Windows XP

This - http://www.google.com/firefox - is the old Firefox Start Page used by the Firefox 3.6 and earlier versions of Firefox, I don't think it is being maintained by Google.
Starting with the Firefox 4 version, Firefox is using a "local" Start Page with the address of about:home. It looks similar to the old Start Page, but it isn't exactly the same.

• I get, You're not on the latest version of Firefox. Upgrade today to get the best of the Web! When I go to the update site it tells me that I have the latest version.

I start the Firefox browser.
When the start page displays I get just below the Google search box:
You're not on the latest version of Firefox. Upgrade today to get the best of the Web!
Not unusual but when I go to the update site it searches for a minute and then tells me that I have the current version of the software.

If you use the www.google.com/firefox site as home page that previous Firefox 3 versions use as the home page then you can ignore the message about not using the latest Firefox version on that page.<br />
Google no longer seems to maintain that page.<br />
Current Firefox 4+ versions no longer use that Google website as the home page, but use the build-in about:home page as the home page.<br />
Google assumes that you use an older Firefox version if you still visit that site and warns you that you use an older Firefox version and suggests to update.<br />
You can use another page as the home page like about:home or www.google.com or www.google.com/ig (iGoogle).<br />

• I have updated Firefox to 8.0.1 but the main screen still says " You're not on the latest version of Firefox. Upgrade today to get the best of the Web!" What is the problem?

I downloaded Firefox Setup 8.0.1.exe from the website to my desktop and opened it as an administrator. The available choice (once opened) was to upgrade. When the process was complete my version of Firefox was identified as 8.0.1 but the main screen still said - "You're not on the latest version of Firefox. Upgrade today to get the best of the Web!"

• Since uploading Firefox 4 I get error messages saying it can't update and I should be sure I am using the latest version. I am, so why will updates not load?

The question is in the title. I have had no updates to Firefox 4, just error messages saying they can't be loaded and I should check that I am using the latest version. I have downloaded Firefox 4 again to be sure my copy is up to date but it makes no difference. I still get the error message.

Remove the files in the updates and updates\0 folder.<br />
You may need to delete active-update.xml and updates.xml as well if present.

• My Home pg. says I'm not using the latest version-- Firefox says I am.

Mozilla Firefox is my Home pg/browser. It says I'm not using the latest version. But when I go to the Firefox pg to download the latest version, they say I'm updated ok. My computer's list of programs also says I'm using version 9.0. After downloading Mozilla 5 + times, my home pg still says I'm not on the latest version. Is it because the OS is Windows 7 starter?

Hi deeweev,
You may see that message below the Google search box on www.google.com/firefox which is the old Firefox default home page. That page is no longer being maintained by Google.
You should try changing your home page to:
about:home
If you don't know how to change the home page, you should take a look at the Knowledge Base article How to set the home page.
Hopefully this helps

• Suddenly, Java isn't working, yet I am not using the latest version which is said to have flaw

Suddenly Java isn't working. I know there is a security flaw with the latest release, but I don't use the latest release as I am on Snow Leopard. But I need Java so that I can access my computer at work. What is going on? What can I do to get it working?

Java 7 updated  for 10.7-10.8
Released Feb 1, 2013,  fixes 50+ security flaws

Download and install

For Java versions 6 and below OS X 10.5-10.6 machines
Apple supplies their own version of Java. For Mac OS X 10.6 and below, use the Software Update feature available under the Apple menu to check that you have the most up-to-date version of Java 6 for your Mac.
https://www.java.com/en/download/faq/java_6.xml
Java SE 6 End of Public Updates
After February 2013, Oracle will no longer post updates of Java SE 6 to its public download sites. We highly recommend downloading and installing Java 7.
If your considering upgrading OS X from 10.6.8 to 10.8 via AppStore to run Java 7
Be forewarned no PowerPC based programs or driver software will run any longer.
Check here BEFORE you upgrade OS X!
http://roaringapps.com/apps:table
Alternatives if you must run Java 7
If Apple disabled Java 6 in 10.6, and you can't upgrade OS X to 10.8, then your pretty much done with Java in OS X because Oracle won't issue updates for Java 6 anymore.
However you can install Windows 7 and continue to use Java 7+ there until support for Windows 7 ends in 2020.
Windows in BootCamp or Virtual Machine?
If your on 10.6, I very highly recommend the free Virtualbox for the virtual machine software as it gets updates, VMFusion and Parallels have moved on with only 10.7+

• I tried to give feedback & I was told I was not using the latest version of Firefox. I upgraded, restarted my computer, then I got the same response. Therefore, I can't give feedback.

Here's my feedback: Make it easier to make Firefox your default browser. I shouldn't have to use a help menu to figure this out.

@sjpierce - I don't believe that this is a Firefox-specific issue, but it does sound like you have some sort of malware on your machine. What was this innocuous link that you clicked on? A lot of viruses and malware make their rounds on Facebook.
Regardless, what I would do is this ( I assume you're running Windows):
* Download the Free and awesome Microsoft Security Essentials (MSE) via http://www.microsoft.com/security_essentials/
* Next update MSE and do a full system scan to ensure you don't have any existing malware on your machine. If so, clean it off and reboot. Keep doing this until you come up clean.
* Refer to this article on SUMO Profiles
* Delete your old Firefox profile, create a new one and launch Firefox 4 again using the new profile
You should be back to normal at this point.
If you are running an OS like Mac OS X or Linux, it's unlikely that you have malware and you should probably clean your Firefox profile and start over again.

• Unless my Firefox browser is actually up to date (version 8.0.1), on my start page appears the message that I'm not using the latest version of Firefox! Is this a bug or is my homepage hacked?

I'm using Windows XP on a PC and Windows 7 on a MacBook Pro.
In both cases, as my start page I use "http://www.google.be/firefox?client=firefox-a&rls=org.mozilla:nl:official"
Under the Googleframe stays the message "U gebruikt niet de nieuwste versie van Firefox. Upgrade vandaag om het beste uit het internet te halen!"
False: my Firefox is already up-to-date.

You are indeed up to date. Firefox stopped using that address as its default start page when 4.0 came out - the page you're using may be (wrongly) assuming that if you're looking at it, you must still be on Firefox 3.6.
If you restore the default home page you should get more up-to-date information.

• My Itunes Shows The downloads history...but when I try to play them it states it can not find the file.  (same computer for the last 2 years) and no issues. now 1/2 of my library can not be played (as it can not be found)

When I try and re-download some of them from the ITUNES store...I get an error that the file already exists on the computer.  However, when I open Itunes.  The file can not be found.  This problem just started about 1 1/2 ago...prior to that did not have any problems...Help?  direction?

You can move the folder to where iTunes expects to find it and that will work.
Or you can attempt to fix one broken track by looking for it when prompted when you use Get Info or attempt to play. This often works if everything is in the standard layout.
Or you can repair things with my FindTracks script.
