First, to answer all of you out there like my self, who are looking for solutions to add extra languages to your phone such as chinese, spanish, french... etc...
1st simple answer is NO!! there are NO language pack you can download.
2nd, NO nokia will not install it for you even if u goto their customer service, and are willing to pay.
This is my story;
I brought a new E65 in less than a week ago, in australia. Like most of other nokia phones sold in australia it did not come with chinese. ALTHOUGH chinese australians are the 3rd largest ethnic group from English and Italian in Australia, on my phone i only have the option to choose from English, Malaysian, Philipino and Indonesian. As my previous phone is a nokia 6270 brought from hong kong (yes i was a loyal customer of nokia), half of my contacts and nearly all my SMSes are in Chinese. I seeked help from nokia. I first typed them e-mail which i received no reply. Then since i wasn't too far away from a nokia care center i also dropped by, and i was told "we can't do it, we simply don't have the software to do it, you could try calling the customer care center." So i did, and spent about 1hour on the phone talking firstly to a gentlemen and then the manager. I told her my problem and begged for help. As i am capable of reading and writing english i did not even ask for the phone to be fully transformed into a chinese version phone, but just to an extend that i will be able to read what i had (especially the name of my contacts). I must say, they were polite and did not have any attitudes, HOWEVER!!!! The only reply i got was, if the customer center could not do anything about it they can not either, they can not install a firmware from another region with chinese because there are licence issues. long word short... they were nice but helpless. We even brought up the possiblity of 3rd party softwares, however i've searched for 2 days and did not find any, which ended in the same way when she offered to search for a possible 3rd party software.
For those of you who do not know, YES it is possible to change the firmware your self and get the language u want!! HOWEVER!!! at the cost of loosing your warranty.
BUT unfortunatly for me nokia is tooo busy with its flag phone N95 and can not even be bothered to release a firmware for E65. So even when i am so despirate that i am ready to give up my 2 year warranty, I can not make my E65 capable of reading chinese.
So, i now have a USELESS E65 next to me. YES it is USELESS!!!!!!
For those of you who are looking for new phones and do have specific languages that you need, make sure u ask about the language FIRST!!! and if nokia does not have it, SONY ERICSON is probably a better choice as they install languages for you!!!
FINALLY if some of you nokia employees sees this, dont' delete this, because i am only telling a story of truth. AND if you really care, pls HELP US, and make language packs available, we are WILLING to PAY!!!! but HELP US!!!!! you have good phone design, nice customer service althought may not be helpful for this case, why let your self down on such a simple area.

i know sony (but i never really liked them other than their ear phones) does that... but with nokia i was told, all the nokia phones are market dependent. thus each region has set languages nokia has decided to release depended on the market for each specific phone. since they told me that its due to many reasons such as software licence issues.... if they could order in a phone with additional languages why can't they install one? because its essentially the same thing, because it means that nokia is distrubuting a phone with additional language then its original intension, i dont' mind if it takes 2 months for them to send my phone to china/hong kong and install chinese for me. maybe nokia has extra languages licenced in the UK..... all i was told from the sales i had was you could try 3rd party software...... which was not viable when i searched....Message Edited by seed01001 on 20-Jul-200703:41 AM

Hi Todd,
It will probably be located in a location similar to the one for I/O devices.
For instance, if you look under (assuming Windows) "C:\VXIPNP\WinNT\NIvisa", you should find a file called "visaconf.ini".
You can set the aliases within this file. Hoewver, for DAQ devices, it will probably be located in another similar type file. Unfortunately I do not have DAQ's installed on this PC. The visaconf.ini file does support GPIB cards. As I said, I don't know if the same file supports DAQ. However, check it out.
An example of how the aliases are to be configured is described in the ini file. Here is an example of mine: It renames ASRL ports to COM ports.

SOME SIMPLE QUESTIONS FOR ALL OF YOU

I have some questions for all of you.
1. Oracle uses cgi (even asp!!! I've seen an asp page somewhere on an Oracle's site but this moment I don't remember where perhaps it is asp->cgi). Why ?
Oracle doesn't support their techologies

2. Oracle says that has just released a
new product for mobiles called "Portal2Go".
I tried to install this product on NT with OAS 4.8.1.
I had many problems during the installation and after many tries finally I did it(thanks God). but the problems continue...
many Jsp errors (from the "tested" supplied apps). My question is:
a. This product is in an early stage (many installation errors.. just a baby) and I think is stable for Sun Solaris but not on NT.
b. You Oracle "experts" (i.e. oracle staff, NOT YOU guys) tell me ONE advantage to use you product (I'm an oracle developer for 6 years now):
You say that I can PORT my existing app in any device and Web (through XML). This is a joke. Mobiles,PalmPCs,Web etc. have different requirements (content,display etc).The scope is different.. so this is absolutely FALSE (to use a boolean).
This release is user unfrienlty. Why.. tell me WHY to pay for a product and for extra hardware (read the product technical reqs!!) to do the SAME THINK

Portal-to-Go is a wireless portal server, the first version was released November 1999.
The problems you describe that mobiles, Palm devices, etc all have different characteristics is one of the key reasons for Portal-to-Go. It allows any service to be displayed on any device by generating content in an appropriate format for specific devices. This way you can take into consideration the size of the screen, the display characteristics, etc.
It is 'stable' on Solaris and NT, though it is true that the installation procedure of the CD is for Solaris only. The product is not currently available on OTN, so the installer restrictions should have been explained to you when you obtained the CD.
Why Portal-to-Go? Here's three reasons:
1. Inherent problems of the User Interface for a wireless device, so we provide a way personalise the UI to improve navigation and allow commonly used parameters to be saved as stored preferences through the portal.
2. Differences in the characteristics between wireless devices make it hard to support all type without re-creating content and applications for each specific case. With Portal-to-Go, the same service can be accessed from any device.
3. Lack of content available for WAP and other wireless devices. We have tools to quickly create wireless services from existing Web sites as well as an application platform for creating new Java or database applications for wireless devices.
You are correct that the product does not have a WAP gateway.

Hi,
what I normally do when I'm making a score, is that I quantize the part I recorded to, say, 1/16th. If I play the quantized part, it should sound exactly what I intended. If not, I make corrections. This way, I'm pretty sure that the interpretation of the score window will be pretty accurate. Otherwise, the score could interprete a note that's a bit too early or a bit too late as a 1/32 note, and make a mess of the notes.
When playing full piano scores, make sure to play as simple as possible, because embellishments also make messier scores.

For all of you who think Encore messages are obscure & that Adobe Support is lousy - Read On

I thought I would share a little story of woe with you all.
Not only will this give you a good laugh, but it will show you that you essentially don't know when you have it as good as you do with Adobe.
I create High Resolution DVD-Audio discs, and for this I have to use Sonic's DVD-Audio Creator system. It is not only the equivalent for Audio of Scenarist for Video, but it is almost as expensive as well. The point will become clear.
So, I am authoring this Widescreen project and the deadline is like tomorrow.
So it's a case of "hurry, hurry, hurry".
Error #1 - "cannot open file xxx_HL_LB.tif" that is it. So I am looking through, and thinking "there isn't one. Must have missed something here".
Yet to no avail. In desperation, I dig out the manual and buried away in an appendix is the information that for a Widescreen disc, the SPHL image is not scaled as this makes text degrade significantly, so a separate SPHL file with the naming convention of (filename)_HL_LB.TIF is required.
This has to be manually placed into the folder created when using the "Import Menu" tool, as it cannot be done automatically".
It then goes on to say that if Pan & Scan is also required, these need yet another file with the naming convention of (filename)_HL_PS.TIF.
Thank for making this obvious guys - you would have thought that the Command Editor tool would point this out to you when you set the Aspect Ratio to 16:9, but no.
So I get this sorted out - only 86 screens, all requiring new Highlight Layers.
It's compile time again.
Error #2 - "Cannot open source file "mainmenu ATS.TIF" - for those of you who know Sonic, you'll no doubt spot the problem immediately. If you do not know this, and try to call support, you will be told that unless you have a maintenance contract, online support is not available. A maintenance contract is several thousand dollars - per year.
(The answer, if you are unaware, is that the compiler cannot handle spaces in the file names, yet the importer has no such problem & again does not tell you you are importing a file that is effectively useless and will crash the compiler with an error message.)
I fix this & move on.
Error #3 - gets right to the end of the process.
All files converted & parsed.
All AOB created
All VOB created.
Starts laying out the UDF/IFO information, gets all the way to the end and errors with a "illegal filename - cannot use ?></\-, only _ 1-9 and A-Z"
Again, the command editor could tell you this, and not allow you to enter in the bloody name, but no - that would be far too easy.
It's the support that annoys me more than anything though.
Sonic still sell this product - it's $13,000 - and yet refuse to provide online support as it is a "dead format" (who told them that? I have done 5 this year already, and have another 23 on the books already) despite the fact that labels are still releasing in DVD-A (albeit few & far between) and that if I want to continue with support I should buy a maintenance contract. They go on to "helpfully" point out that I should get in touch with my supplier, as the new HD formats offer all that is on DVD-A & more besides - yeah, like the $150,000 price tag plus support contract, annual AACS Site license, and per-title AACS fees that are mandatory despite all Blu Ray DRM being broken wide-open.
And you lot moan about Adobe, and Encore's messages?
You do not know when you are well off.

Another thing that all Encore users ought to regularly offer up a daily prayer of thanks for is the PSD support for menus.
Let me tell you a little story, all about how bloody awkward it

The little saga above about the additional _HL_LB image completely forgot to mention that there is a very nasty scaling issue awaiting the ignorant (like me).
It doesn't scale the letterbox image automatically.
SO, it's a case of as usual, preparing all Widescreen assets in anamorphic mode (create & design in PS using PAR correction, reshape image to Square Pixels)
Duplicate the _HL for the _HL_LB image.
Now, because of the rescaling issue, take this into PS, and resize the image to 720x360, then resize the
i canvas
to 720x480, making certain your background is white, as failure to do this will mean the Letterboxed SPHL are incorrectly scaled, although the button hotspots are in the right place.
Aargh - if it was not for the "Phone A Friend" option, I would still be stuck on this.

For all of you having services failing to start

After 48 hours of struggle with this same issue and 6 clean re-installs of Lion Server I have found the bug in Lion Server causing all ruby based collaboration services (Device Manager, Wiki, ical, some adress book features ie: major screw up in services around server admin tools and server app). The most visible one is in Profile Manager because as you all pointed out it even says sometimes "Error Reading Settings". And if you take a look at the logs its even worst...full of errors...
that's how I found out, yes reading all the logs took time:
Basically they all fail because they use Postgresql database.
At first I did 2 clean re-installs and noticed everytime, after having spent some time configuring the server (open directory/kerneros, creating accounts/mailboxes, profiles etc.). I would do a reboot and everything would break.
Now I won't go over all the diggin I did but I finally manage to understand why Postgres at some point was failing.
it seems there is a bug.
If you turn "Dedicate Resources to Server Services" in the Server.app Hardware Section (next to Push Notifications switch", postgres doesn't start and all depending services (lots) fail.
The Solution: Just turn that OFF as shown below and restart. Everything should get back in order. If you still see some "push_notify: not connected" erros in you console logs (it happened to me even thoug all servcies were restored) the solution is easy. Hit change and redo the setup with you appleid. You'll be issued new certs by Apple and everything shoudl work fine.
That's all.
Hope this helps the many people that are frustrated like I was. Now that everything works, it's the perfect server for a mini Cloud. You'll love Profile Manager for provisioning payload to your devices. Elegant, efficient and simple, yet very flexible with the openDirectory backend.

The last few lines go in a loop and they also tend to bring the CPU high unti it's fixed.
As soon as I turn off "Dedicate Resources to System Services" and I reboot this problem disappears...

For all of you saying you are going to upgrade to a different phone

You need to realize that you are doing exactly what Verizon wants you to do. They want you to buy new phones and sign new contracts as often as possible. I see people in many of theise threads saying they are waiting for their upgrade or asking for an early upgrade from Verizon to buy an iPhone or an HTC or a phone from any non-Samsung manufacturer. That's what Verizon is hoping you will do. That is why they are not providing you with the service they owe you. They make money every time you do this.
While Samsung is certainly at fault here, the even bigger fault has been done by Verizon, whom we all pay large amounts of money monthly for service. Even if you paid full retail price for your Fascinate (which most have not) that is just a fraction of the money you are paying to Verizon. Stop rewarding Verizon by continuing to pay them for service they have not provided. Stop buying new phones and signing new contracts and continuing to let them get rich off of you when they despise you.
There are other carriers out there (and all of them are cheaper than Verizon by the way). Verizon has treated it's customers like dirt (and that's the nicest thing I can say). I personally have been treated by Verizon like I am not even a human being and have been repeatedly insulted, lied to, and abused by multiple Verizon employees, not to mention robbed of the services I have paid for. I have been incredibly patient and accomodating and given them every opportunity to do the right thing and at every turn they choose to be the worst they possibly can. This is a company with no conscience - both corporately and as individuals. I have never been treated so badly in my entire life and I have not done a thing wrong here. As a result, I am switching to a different carrier in 3 weeks so that Verizon will never get anymore of my hard-earned money. All of you experiencing these same problems should do the same.
Just this week, I have talked 5 people out of getting Verizon service. I consider this a public service and plan to do this every chance I get for the rest of my life. I am not the only person doing this either. Each of the FedEx employees who have delivered my refurbished phones have all told me they would never get Verizon service and advise everyone they know against this. This is because they see Verizon send out broken phone after broken phone after broken phone to the same customers who are without functioning phone service for several months. Also they say that the Verizon customers are always unhappy when they get the delivery but when they deliver for other phone companies, people are usually happy to be getting their phone.
Verizon needs to start paying attention. Their own delivery service talks bad about them. Their customers talk bad about them. Their once good reputation had done a 180 in a short period of time. If they don't wake up, they will go the way of other companies that people don't even remember anymore. But they are not going to change a thing as long as you all keep paying them all this money. You're making it profitable for them to screw you over. Only if customers leave them or don't sign up with them in the first place, will they have any incentive to change for the better. Buying a new phone, signing a new contract, or continuing service with them without a contract is just asking for them to treat you and others badly and steal your money.

I was at a holiday picnic yesterday, and every person there with Verizon phones were having problems and complaining about Verizon. This started when one person was trying to reach his daughter and his phone kept rebooting when placing a call. He asked to borrow someone else's phone and several people in a row told him their phone was useless and to try someone else's. It turned out each one was a Verizon customer and we all started talking. Each one had their own horror stories about Verizon customer service. Several had been with Verizon for over a decade. We are all leaving Verizon. It's not that we think some other carrier is going to be perfect or that phones won't have problems - it's that Verizon has treated each of us in a despicable, inexcusable way and we just can't continue paying them for it.
Then this morning I was at a coffeeshop and there was a large family sitting at the tables next to me. One of the adult brothers was telling one of the others how his pregnant wife had been having pain yesterday and tried to call him while she waited for the ambulance. She kept getting his voicemail (he had a Fascinate and was missing calls but did not know it until this happened). It was early in the pregnancy and he did not have a pager. He finally got the voicemail after he had to reboot his phone for some other problem. After his wife was found to have a treatable, non-pregnancy-related issue and taken care of, he called Verizon to tell them what happened and to ask for a working phone. The customer service rep said there was no problem with his phone, refused his request, and was heartless and cruel to this man who was worried about his ill pregant wife. Both the brothers and another family member decided right then to go next door to Radioshack and switch to different carriers. Two went with Sprint and the other got a Virgin Mobile phone. The one with the wife is still under contract but said the safety of his family is more important than the fee to cancel his Verizon contract and that he plans to fight that fee based on what he experienced. The rest of the family is going to do the same when their contracts are up and most are going to try to get out of their contract early.
I keep running into people every day now that are being treated just horribly by Verizon. I used to recommend Verizon to everyone. They used to pride themselves on good customer service. The change in behavior is giving me whiplash. They seem to pride themselves on treating customers as badly as humanly (or inhuman-ly) possible. There is a company-wide policy to lie. They have been instructed to not provide service to customers and not to keep their end of the contract. They have been instructed to milk every cent they can out of every customer no matter the circumstances. They have been given reign to openly abuse customers, not only without consequence, but evidently are encouraged to do so and are backed up by supervisors who pile on their own abuse. I'm in disbelief. For myself, I am just about 2 1/2 weeks away from freedom, but I still feel deeply for others who feel trapped in this situation and are being mistreated.

Or will publish pictures and video and send it to all my friends and family. ...
But I ignored it because two things:
First, I could not believe that he would send the video.
Second: I don't have money to pay the required amount to me.
After a period I received surprised messages from my friends and family that they have received the video and photos. ....
I swear, the shock was very painfull and so hard than you think ......

Thank you for the question. I would recommend closing all applications in the multitasking menu and then restart the device. Also, check to see how much space is available on the device as this can limit device functionality if it is at capacity. You can check device capacity by going to Settings > General > About.

Also, some e-mail clients are set to convert file format upon sending and this could be the cause of the issue. If this is the case, you would need to refer to the sender to have them correct this in their preferences of their e-mail client.

For all of you, who gets "missing file" error on syncing theirs photos

I dont really knows any better way of correcting this error when deleting "iPod photo cache" -file doesn't help, but here is my answer to that. If somebody knows a better solution, plase tell it to all of us.
I was getting an "unknown errorcode -39" and that "missing file" messages every time i try to sync my photos from my Windows 7 based computer to the iPad. It seems to me that there are something wrong on the iPed side but how to corrrect it (and i dont know anything on how apple works)?
Just as i was gioing to give up, i realize that there must be two caches in sync, one for sender (for itunes) and one for a receiver (for example iPade) side. Both must be in sync whith themselfs and in a filesystem on their side. Easy part is on iTunes side, just delete the cache (thats because its contents can and will be recreated using the local filesystem information only).
The other side (iPhone or iPad) is much more harder to do as there are not (or i dont have found it) any simple solution to do it. There are only one solution which i have found to be solve this problem (every time) and it is that you have to get a sync target to think that it is being sync on a different iTunes photo library (even when its empty). If this works, then you get a iTunes message saying that "are you sure?, as if you continue ALL FILES ARE DELETED when your are resynced on different photolibrary". That is just what we wanted. For myself it has worked every time, but it takes time, as you must resync it twice (once in an alien or differentt, and back to the original or updated photolibrary).

It doesn't scale the letterbox image automatically.
SO, it's a case of as usual, preparing all Widescreen assets in anamorphic mode (create & design in PS using PAR correction, reshape image to Square Pixels)
Duplicate the _HL for the _HL_LB image.
Now, because of the rescaling issue, take this into PS, and resize the image to 720x360, then resize the
i canvas
to 720x480, making certain your background is white, as failure to do this will mean the Letterboxed SPHL are incorrectly scaled, although the button hotspots are in the right place.

For all of you who are having Motion Menu render problems - try this

Just humour me for a minute.
I have another Sonic application, and a known bug in the Motion Menu rendering applies to 29.97DF projects only.
IE, NTSC.
Often the video in a motion menu will fail to mux.
There are workarounds though.
1 - Make sure your GOP structure is 15 at most
2 - Make certain the frame length of your video file is divisible by the GOP structure. IE, it must be a multiple of 15 frames.
3 - if these both fail, reduce the bitrate of the video 500kbps at a time until it muxes. Most will work at 7,000, some need to be 6,000 and there are even times when you need to go as low as 4000.
Try it - Encore uses a Sonic Authorcore, so it's worth a look.

What I am saying is that your movie frame length should be divisible by the GOP structure with a GOP of 15.
With NTSC video, you can have GOP lengths

18, but it is not mandatory to go to 18 - 15 is a perfectly acceptable figure. You could use a GOP of 12 if you really wanted to. What this means is typically the number of frames between I-Frames.
MPEG-2 encoding (AKA "Moving Pictures by Educated Guesswork") P & B frames work something like this:
i P-frames provide more compression than I-frames because they take advantage of the data in the previous I-frame or P-frame. I-frames and P-frames are called reference frames. To generate a P-frame, the previous reference frame is reconstructed, just as it would be in a TV receiver or DVD player. The frame being compressed is divided into 16 pixel by 16 pixel macroblocks. Then, for each of those macroblocks, the reconstructed reference frame is searched to find that 16 by 16 macroblock that best matches the macroblock being compressed. The offset is encoded as a "motion vector." Frequently, the offset is zero. But, if something in the picture is moving, the offset might be something like 23 pixels to the right and 4 pixels up. The match between the two macroblocks will often not be perfect. To correct for this, the encoder computes the strings of coefficient values as described above for both macroblocks and, then, subtracts one from the other. This "residual" is appended to the motion vector and the result sent to the receiver or stored on the DVD for each macroblock being compressed. Sometimes no suitable match is found. Then, the macroblock is treated like an I-frame macroblock. The processing of B-frames is similar to that of P-frames except that B-frames use the picture in the following reference frame as well as the picture in the preceding reference frame. As a result, B-frames usually provide more compression than P-frames. B-frames are never reference frames.
In short, the I-Frame is the full description reference frame. A P frame is also a reference frame but describes the difference between the last I-Frame & itself. A good analogy is when you are on the telephone & describing what you see to a friend. The initial background description (The street, the sky, what you can see etc) would be an I-Frame. Then you describe a person walking down the street - that would be your P-Frames, as you are only describing the i changes
in the scene.
The bitrate can also affect things - I mentioned this too, and if a motion menu will not mux, first make sure that the film length is divisible by the GOP, and that the GOP is 15.
If it

won't mux, drop the bitrate by factors of 500 until it will.

Challenge for all of you with SL and printer issues

I have an iMac with an Epson Stylus C-88+. Let's try an experiment. Pick a sample web page, in the Title Bar, go to File/Print, or Command-P. Go to the lower left hand corner, you have the purple question, then"PDF"/ Click/ "Save as PDF"/ Click. You should be able to find a copy of that website where you save documents in pdf. Because this is all within the machine, there are NO connectivity issues. I failed both in printing and pdf. Anybody out there have better luck?

John Blanchard: Sir, try it for yourself and come to your own conclusion. Each situation is different. I am beginning to think the problem is not just be the printer / print driver, but just may be 'Snow Leopard'. Apple needs to become more involved, not just the printer companies. You write, "Are you saying that saving to PDF doesn't work?" All I'm saying is this, "For me, it did not work. You must explore the situation to determine the functionality of your own individual system. For me, earlier on Saturday, I was printing through the printer AND printing to disk (PDF). I later did a "Software Update" including Epson Printer Update. Later in the morning, I went back online and was going to print a disk or PDF, but it would not function. I called AppleCare and explained the situation. The Tech told me to try my printer, I ask him "Well, what are we going to do?" This is the first time I discovered the problem was also with the printer. The Tech said, "YOU are going to call the printer manufacturer and inform THEM of THEIR problem." I said, I didn't get this update from Epson. I got it from AppleCare!" AppleCare wants us to keep our systems up to date. Well, I've got an updated system that is also (REDACTED). Terms not acceptable for a discussion board!

For all of you with Error -3 with QuickTime

I have been trying to figure this out for awhile now, but finally read a thread on a different error code and it worked for me also.
I'm not quite sure if Apple likes Windows users much because they always seem to put little things in their software that do not do what we want it to. For example, with iTunes, iPod service and iPod Helper (both .exe's) run without your knowledge, stealing memory. And with quicktime, this is one little hard bugger to delete. I actually still found traces of it with uninstalling it with multiple programs.
Anyhow, to the point, I had to go into my registry and delete quicktime from there (deleted registry is usually done with un-installations. To get into your registry, go to "Run" from your Start Menu and type in "cmd.exe" From here, type "reg" Go to HKEY LocalMachine, then into software, then to Aplle Inc, then to quicktime. Delete all of the quicktime and try and reinstall iTunes and Quicktime. It worked for me. Happy trying!

Fixing the -3 error...
1. Go to: http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;290301 and install Windows Install Clean up
2. Open the file in Start > All Programs > Windows Install Clean up
3. Once it is open click iTunes and remove. Do the same for any Quicktime files in there (you can leave the iPod alone)
4. That's it! You should be able to run the iTunes/Quicktime setup
If you follow other threads you will find the same solution, I just thought this would be more convenient and easy to acess. It also shows how to use the program so you don't have to read the confusing information on the Microsoft link.

hi, i would like to add the arabic language to the dictionary search results. basically When i highlight a word and click define, the dictionary defines it. however i would like to add Arabic to the search results. I have managed to do this on my macbook, but finding it difficult to find a solution on the iphone.
Please refer to the screenshots to understand me problem.

In iOS, you cannot modify or add to the built in reference dictionary for looking up words like you can in OS X. Tell Apple you'd like that ability here:
