For Eric Chan - Panasonic software optics corrections and "induced banding"

Hi Eric,
may be this was discussed already - not software optics correction of course - but whether that will induce a banding that is almost invisible, unless - and here goes a shot from GH2 and 20/1.7 (which is one of the most heavily corrected lenses)... do you see the pattern there ? was it induced by software correction of optics (distortions)? note that to make it visible sharpening was to extreme in ACR and that some HDR processing was done to make it more clear.

function(){return A.apply(null,[this].concat($A(arguments)))}

The bands are introduced because uniform image noise becomes non-uniformly distributed upon image resampling (e.g., when spatially-varying optical corrections are applied).
With all due respect, I'm not sure I'm buying this...
If the resampling is done with a high quality algorithm I just don't see how a pattern would emerge from "uniform image noise".  I can imagine that the noise might look more coarse in some parts of the image and finer than others, but that's it.
Resampling only adds patterns due to inaccuracies.
My money is on someone having made a "speed" vs. "quality" decision in the algorithm somewhere.

There really is nothing more to say than what Allan has already said, but to explain just a little further, what you may have read is that once you purchase an iOS app in the app store, you do not have to purchase it again if you need to download it to another iOS device. In other words once you buy the app, you can load it onto unlimited iPhones, iPod Touches or iPads.
You must be using the same iTunes account that you originally purchased the app with in order to download it again. But as Allan said, just because you have it on your Mac does not entitle you to download it free to your iPad.

  • Olympus E-M1 and CA corrections (or not), probably for Eric Chan

    Hi
E-M1 is rumored to have (I'd assume in raw files) finally parameters for CA corrections (first for Olympus, always was the case with Panasonic cameras)... however upon conversion from .ORF to .DNG I still can see that "WarpRectilinear" has only the data for only one plane (while .RW2 to .DNG has that for 3 planes)...
So what does it mean :
    1) Adobe support being preliminary does not include that yet ?
    OR
    2) Olympus does not provide that info (for CA corrections) really like Panasonic does in their raw files (and that means that evil Olympus hardcoded corrections in their software /firmware in case of OOC JPGs/ )
    Thank you.

Closer to #1.  Specifically, support for metadata-driven (opcode-based) lateral chromatic aberration for the E-M1 will be added in the next dot releases of ACR and Lr.  However, note that we are almost ready to post the Release Candidate (RC) versions of the next ACR/Lr dot releases, and the CA correction will not be available in these RC versions (but will be in the final version).

  • For Eric Chan - is Adobe using legacy (or Sigma's) code to do NR for Foveon raw files ?

    Hi Eric,
is Adobe using legacy (or Sigma's) code to do NR for Foveon raw files ?
it was stated (I think it was either you or mr Schewe) that Adobe nowadays do not use NR behind the scenes when NR sliders are zeroed - however this is clearly not the case for Foveon raw files... hence the question - is it Adobe's legacy code that for whatever reason was not changed from old days or Adobe is using some SDK provided by Sigma ?
compare two screenshots - one is ACR, another is SilkyPix v5 Beta... we do not have any demosaicking for Foveon, so it is clear that ACR despite zeroed sliders does NR behind the scenes... can that be fixed and modern Adobe's NR made available for Foveon raw files, like Adobe has it for other cameras ?

    > Is it possible that this file has defaulted to the 2003 process version by accident?
    ACR shows "Process: 2010 (Current)"
I think that foveon related code was kind of neglected for quite some time... however if Sigma indeed will start selling SD1 that might cause some influx of new customers and it is time to dust off whatever is for foveon inside ACR/LR.

I have uninstalled and reinstalled iTunes multiple times.  When I connect my iPod Classic I get the following message:  The software for this iPod is not installed correctly.  Please reinstall iTunes to install the required software.  Any ideas?

Assuming you have windows, try uninstalling iTunes and all of its components as by following this guide exactly: Windows XP or Windows Vista/7, then reinstall iTunes.  You must follow this guide exactly or it will not be successful.  Note: uninstalling iTunes will only remove the application; it will not touch your iTunes library or data.

  • Make sure your network settings are correct and your network connection is active, or try again later; Have been trying to fix for ages.

Hi Everyone, been struggling all day to restore my settings on my ipod, as my little brother has put a restriction password in place and made me not able to get into Safari, iTunes, Camera which I really need. I have tried everything, resetting my proxy settings, turning off the firewall, changing my network location, ran diagnostics. Everything seems fine on that, I post below my results. I also tried restoring from the device, but with the restrictions code in place I can not do so. And everytime I am dowloading the software update before the restore it comes up with 'Make sure your network settings are correct and your network connection is active, or try again later'. I have been using google for ages and am not sure what I have missed.
I am using Windows 7 with an Acer Notebook.

  • I cannot install itunes from the apple site .. it keeps saying the software is corrupted and cannot install correctly.. help!!!

I have tried to install the software from several sites including the apple site and they all say that the software is corrupted and did not install correctly to delete and reinstall. this seems unlikely as it has been weeks since I have been retrying the sites with the same results...is there an apple download that will check my pc for any errors that may be keeping the itunes from installing.. or is there anything else i can do to fix the issue.. its unlikely that itunes could stay corrupted for so ling without noticing it and fixing the issue..thank you...

  • IPod Touch 4gen disabled "The iPod Software update server could not be contacted" Make sure your network settings are correct and your network connection is active or try again later.  Please help!

My daughter forgot her passcode.  Her iPod Touch 4gen is disabled.  I've tried everything I've read online.  I get to the "Restore" part on iTunes and then I get the message, "The iPod Software update server could not be contacted.  Make sure your network connections are correct and your network connection is active or try again later."  How can this be so hard to do?  Why isn't there a simpler solution.  I live 2 hours from the nearest Apple store.  Any advice you may offer would be very much appreciated.

    Try:
    - Powering off and then back on your router.
    - iTunes for Windows: iTunes cannot contact the iPhone, iPad, or iPod software update server
    - Change the DNS to either Google's or Open DNS servers

    OpenDNS IP Addresses
    - Try on another computer/network
    - Wait if it is an Apple problem

  • Optical audio and surround sound speakers for my Mac Pro

In the back of my Mac Pro there's an in and out for Optical Audio. What is this and are there any surround sound speaker systems out there that will plug into it? Most surround sound speakers seem to require a PC-style triple-input, with three jacks (Green to front, Orange to centre and Black to rear channels). Very few surround sound systems have the additional option for a single headphone socket-style jack, and I'm not sure if they will work terribly well with this single connection.
Can anyone recommend some speaker choices, particularly in the UK, that will give me good surround sound from the optical audio or single headphone jacks? Many thanks.

You might want to look at a device called the Griffin FireWave: [http://www.griffintechnology.com/products/firewave]
It connects to your MacPro via firewire, and has the green/orange/black jacks out to a standard 5.1 speaker system.
It comes with a software application that lets you customize the sound, and also synthesize surround from mono, stereo, etc., sources.
It would definitely open up your choices for speaker systems. I'm using one with a Klipsch 5.1 Promedia set of speakers. Works and sounds great.

  • Does anyone know how to access the sound software on a Mid 2010 Mac Pro? I have a Logitech Z906 5.1 surround system with fiber optic in and out, I only seem to be able to get stereo and simulated 5.1 sound .

A mid 2010 Mac Pro, trying to get 5.1 surround out of the onboard sound software using fiber optic out connected to a Logitech Z906 5.1 speaker sys. with fiber optic in and out, all I get is stereo and simulated 5.1 sound out of the speakers. In utilities, Audio Midi Setup I can't get the Mac to see the Logitech speakers for 5.1 speaker configuration. Without being made to feel like a dummy, does anyone have a solution? Thanks, Carl

Hello John, I figured it was a signal issue. All the speakers fire and the sound is great. I was running the speakers thru a Dell PC with a Creative X-Fi Elite Pro, THX Certified, 7.1 soundcard using a fiber optic from the Mac Pro to the Z906's, it worked great until the Dell died!!! When I bought the soundcard from Creative I also bought the GigaWorks S750, THX Certified, 700 watt, 7.1 speaker system, used the speakers for 11 years and then the woofer/amp said "I QUIT" Creative quit making the speaker system and the sound card. The satellite speakers from the Creative GigaWorks speaker system still sound great (rated at 78 watt each) and are a little better speaker than the one's that came with the Z906 and the wattage from the 906 is sufficient to drive the satellites without any distortion. Thank you for addressing my issue, you confirmed what I suspected all along, just needed to hear it from someone with the same setup.
One last question, I purchased a Diamond Multimedia USB Soundcard, can't use the fiber optic(not supported by Mac) but the green, tan and black RCA's plug in and produces adequetly. When you plug your 906's into the Mac Pro using the fiber optic how do you set your speaker configuration? When I plug into the mac pro with fiber optic the 'Audio Midi Setup' does not seem to see the 5.1 configuration. Any thoughts there?
