my laptop is asking for a password that I never put on it and I can't get into the bios to change it

If the unit prompts for the BIOS password, you need to call up support to report this issue. You will need to send across the POP (Proof of purchase) for your notebook, and most likely the unit needs to be sent in for a repair to have the BIOS password removed.

Hi, If your machine is producing a hexadecimal halt code, this would indicate it has a more recent AMI bios, in which case, you only have two options at the moment.
    1. Contact HP and see if they can help with an unlock code - start Here.
    2. It would appear that the hash is not stored in nvram and that removing the cmos cell, holding down the power button for a minute, then leaving it for a couple of hours before re-assembly will actually clear the password - the bad news if you wish to try this is that the cell is on the wrong side of the system board - see Page 127 of your Maintenance & Service Guide.

  • Portege P3440 asking for a BIOS password

I have a Portege P3440 which I haven't used for about 8 months. When I turn it on now it comes up with screen asking for a password, and unfortunately I don't remember the password.
It seems like a net bios password but I am not sure. It has Win NT installed. Please help as it is getting rather urgent.

It is very bad situation Shaana. I hope you will be able to enter preinstalled OS trying different words as possible password. Other way you must visit service. They can remove the BIOS password but it will cost a little bit.
If you need Asp addresses you can find it under http://www.csd.toshiba.com/cgi-bin/tais/su/su_gaspLocator.jsp?pf=true

  • How do you get around password protection?

i recently bought an apple graphite g4 tower running O.S. X.
i got home and set it up, but it won't let me update anything.
anybody know how to get around the password protection?

    Dorian,
As stated by reese, if you boot off of the install disk you will have options to do things that are not available when running the system.
Apple includes on the install disk a utility for your hard drive that does not come on Windows install disks (AFAIK). You can do repairs on the hard drive, erase and reformat it, partition it, etc..
There is also (under File on the top menu bar) a little utility for changing the password.
The only issue that you may run into is that if the install disk is not a retail/universal, the rom files for booting your particular computer may not be on the disk. This is likely if the install disk you are trying to use is from an imac or ibook.
As for getting around password protection, I suppose it is possible. But the National Security Administration considers the mac, with its password protection schemes, to be one of the more secure systems on the market. It is one of the reasons that the install disks have that little utility for resetting the password.
One last thing. The password reset does depend on the system files to be in order. If the directory was messed up the password reset may not proceed. I have had that happen some time ago.

  • Elitebook 8640P need BIOS password

Hi - I am trying to a new operating system on my 8640p and it keeps asking me for the BIOS password.  I have no idea what it is.  I reset the CMOS battery and the screen still coems up.  I am unable to boot to the CD.  Any suggestions?  I havent used this pc in a few years.

Clearing the BIOS Password   Follow these steps to clear the password. These steps also clear CMOS:Remove the real time clock (RTC) battery. Wait approximately 5 minutes.Replace the RTC battery and reassemble the notebook.Connect AC power to the notebook. Do not reinsert any battery packs at this time.Turn on the notebook. All passwords and all CMOS settings are cleared. Hope this helps, for any further queries reply to the post and feel free to join us again  **Click the White Thumbs Up Button on the right to say Thanks**Make it easier for other people to find solutions by marking a Reply 'Accept as Solution' if it solves your problem. Thank You,GBL84Although I am an HP employee, I am speaking for myself and not for HP

  • I don't know BIOS password for Satellite A100-528 PSAA2E

    hi..i have a problem...
    i have a laptop Toshiba SATELLITE A100-528 PSAA2E-01H00WGE....
the problem is that i downloaded toshiba HW setup and i accidentaly set a password..
.not a user password....it's propably supervisor password or bios password...
.the thing is that i don't know what the password is...i boot up my pc and it don't let me get in windows if i don't type the password.....is there any way to remove the password ??
it does not let me either boot from a cd or usb....i press F12 in order to choose to boot from cd or usb but it's still asks for the unknown password....is there any solution ??
    please answer it's critical !!
    thank you very much...

    >the problem is that i downloaded toshiba HW setup and i accidentaly set a password..
    >.not a user password....it's propably supervisor password or bios password...
Thats weird because the BIOS or Supervisor password can be reset only by an authorized service provider.
The BIOS password is a high security option which cannot be reset easily.
So ONLY ASP can remove a UNKNOWN password.

  • Need BIOS password for old ACS SE

We recently upgraded our ACS SE 1112 to a SE 1113 model. The trade allows us to keep the old hardware. I want to use it for a test Windows or Linux server, however I can't seem to be able to break out of the locked-down Windows boot sequence. Occasionally I am able to press enough keys to get what looks like a BIOS password prompt. Does anyone know what that is?

Thanks for the suggestion. I get challenged with 3 password prompts when I hit F12 during the boot sequence and neither password works. In fact, I'm not sure that is the BIOS password. But I did open a TAC case and they suggested removing the CMOS battery....which worked. Here's the sequence if I had to do it all over again:
    1) boot with a diskette to find a utility to remove the master boot record. I used a 3x diskette OS/2 and used FDISK.
    2) remove the cover. Take out the CMOS battery. Wait a minute or two and put it back in place.
    3) reboot. Do not (yet) select F1 to setup the BIOS. Just hit the prompt to continue booting. The default boot sequence will boot from the CD.
    4) Install your OS from the CD. During the install process if the box needs to reboot, do not (yet) hit F1.
    5) after installation of the OS, at the next reboot, select F1 at the prompt, set up the BIOS (date/time, etc), exit and save.
It must have something to do with the SATA drive/controller and the IDE controller on the system board - but I could not find the correct BIOS settings to allow me to boot from CD if I pressed F1 after removing the CMOS battery and saved the BIOS configuration.

  • Remove the BIOS password for laptop HP Compaq 6520s

    Hello everybody!
Notebook is my HP Compaq 6520s. I set the BIOS password, but now I have forgotten it. How can I remove the password now?
    Thanks everyone!

I do not know what decade the last replier is from but is most apparent that they can not read the written word... the first person said, that they had a laptop not a desktop...  Most laptops that are under eight years old do not have pins to reset the bios...    Everything that the replier stated might work on a desktop computer to reset the password.. but since laptops are to easy to steal the companies have made it more difficult to enter the bios and change things when they are password... There are three ways to remove the forgotten password    1 remember it    2 call Hp to get the backdoor password  3  replace the motherboard.. that is it... most of the bios clearing programs are made for dos and will not work with windows above windows 98... xp vista and 7 are NT and will not allow access to the bios..........

  • Bios password reset for HP 6735s (not 6735b) laptop

Recently, I managed to find a replacement board for my laptop however I found out that there was an issue with getting into the systems BIOS as there was a password set and the company I bought that board off had no clue what it was set to.
Now I have tried all of the simple ways like removing the CMOS battery and trying the backdoor password (which I might add never worked) but still cant get into the bios to update it or change the boot sequence. I even requested some information about this issue directly to HP Support and they cant help due to the fact that the software they have to do this only work on 2009 and later models (my machine was built 2008).
I have all the information including the UUID however cant seem to find either a DOS application that will succesfully view or reset the password or anyone that would be able to point me in the direction of such a appliocation.
Before anyone says anything about a reset button or anything that simple, I have tried all that and have no such jumper or switch on the mainboard.
