For good quality sound in iPod.

Hello:
I'd like to know which way is better to keep a good quality on the iPod. Many people goes for the mp3, OK, compatible with a lot of devices in the world, a lot of songs in a CD or card, easy way, but WHAT ABOUT THE QUALITY???
AAC at 128 is good, I know. For many users better than an mp3 file at 160.
I ask what is better or doesn't matter:
1. All my library (My Music) are in mp3 at 192 vbr. All of them are imported from original CDs. Even so, these songs aound with distorsions, maybe because of the compression. In the laptop and in the iPod.
This distorsion sounds like a wave, as if somebody is playing with any equalizer button moving from left to right
2. If an mp3 file (encoded and imported from an original CD of music) is converted to WAV or Apple lost less, will improve the quality? I mean, I wonder if a compressed file (mp3) could "go back" to an "uncompressed" statement? Or is better to import and encode again from the original CDs to a WAV or Apple lost less formats?
I make the comparison with the video formats. If a DVD is copied to a VHS, the VHS tape will get excellent quality, but if the VHS content is coppied to a DVD, "this DVD will continue being VHS"...
In my discman, the songs sound excellent (compilated CDs) and sometimes I think that the iPod is so sensitive, so good that captures "and enhance" the audio noises or deffects from the CDs.
Thks 4 your help.

mariocarnival,
Your VHS-DVD analogy is accurate. Once your music has been encoded in a "lossy" format (mp3 or aac) you're not going to be able to get any fidelity back by converting those files to a higher quality.

I am looking for a good quality in head set for my 8100 pearl. The problem is that all the really high quality headphones have a 3.5mm plug. Does any use the 2.5mm in ear sound isolating head set sold on the Blackberry site? Do they have a good quality sound?

  • Does iPod with iTrip have a good quality sound on car stereo?

Does the iPod with a iTrip have as good a quality sound on the car stereo as say the same song on a CD?

Not even close. Even if you can find a completely unused frequency in your area to use the bandwith for FM is much more limited than a CD. Even a direct connection to your stereo is going to be below CD quality enless you are encoding with AIFF...assuming your ears can tell the difference.

  • Anybody have a source for good quality iPhone 5 cables?

The reviews i've seen on most iPhone cables around (even on the Apple site) are pretty bad.  Has anybody found a source who sells a good quality cable?
The ones i've seen online so far apparently fall apart quickly and/or provide inconsisent connectivity...

The new Apple cables for the iPhone have an authentication chip so third party suppliers have not come up with any quality cables yet - so I have bought several Apple cables until good ones come out - so far they are working well - I would check with www.monoprice.com periodically - they say that will produce a quality cable as soon as they can.

  • What cable do I need to attach to my iPod Hi-Fi for highest quality sound?

I'm slightly confused as to what I need to buy in order to achieve optimal audio quality. There is only 1 input spot.
    Can someone please explain?
    Thank you!

The audio input of iPod HiFi on the back, is combined of optical and analogue audio in, you can either use an optical cable

or a pair of audio cable with minijacks both ends
    I personlly prefer opitical cable.

  • XFI Titanium HD - What cable or connection to use for best quality sound?

I plan on buying the xfi HD today, which will replace my champion series. I saw that it does not offer many outputs like the champion series, and would like to know which give the best qualioty optical cable or rca cables. O have the Z5500 system btw. I want to buy the proper cables when i go pick this up later today. Thanks!

DO not buy the titanium HD unless you are not going to use it for 5. surround. Yes indeed it does have optical out. which will give you 5. surround. but when using optical you are by passing the cards internal DACS and using the DACS in the logitech control pod which are no where near quality of the sound card.
if you want the best sound i advice you to use analog which the titanium HD does not have. there is no word weather or not there going to make a addon board for this. i asked numerous times. now if you dont mind using logitech to control sound. but you would be essentionally wasting almost 200 dollars.
alot of companies do not tell you this.when using optical connections you are BYPASSING the sound cards compon that make it good. analog is the way to go!
unless your using a external receiver with excellent dacs inside

  • Imovie08 export settings for good quality

I'm using iMovie08 with my Canon HF100 but cannot find the best export settings for my MP4-files. The exported movie needs to run on my PS3 and my macbook. I want to export in 720p and 1080p format, using H.256 and ACC, but I'm not sure what bitrate to use for my movies to get acceptable quality. Tried using 5000k for 720p but that left me with lots of compression artifacts.
    Any hints?

For 1080p try unlimited bitrate or a minimum of 16000.

  • Quality sound cards with good linux support

Since my Auzentech XFI forte is doomed on linux according to most of the internet (if you have one and made it work then please  PLEASE tell me how ) I'm gonna need a new one. Onboard sound just doesn't cut it anymore for me.
What I'm looking for is a good quality sound card that works perfectly on linux and isn't too expensive.
I don't care about 5.1 or 7.1, I mostly use headphones so high quality stereo output is of most importance.
Are there any sound card manufacturers that have some love for linux?
How are the Asus Xonar cards. I've read good reviews about them but I know nothing about how they work on linux.

I had an M-Audio Delta 1010lt once that had studio quality sound, linux support is good on the entire delta series.

  • Setting for best quality in compressor

    Hi.
I'm running FCP 5.1  and Compressor 2.3.1.  For best quality videos on youtube I've heard it's a good idea to max out the free space they make available to you.  What are the best settings I should use in Compressor for maximum quality uploads to youtube?  Also what's a good setting for good quality video with a smaller file size?  Also I should note most of my videos uploaded are of short duration 1 minute to 5 minutes.  I've been using the settings DVNTSC and it's okay but maybe there's something better you can recommend?  Also I tend to use Toast to burn DVD's.  What's a good setting for best quality dvd's?
    thank you!

For Youtube encoding, read these: http://www.kenstone.net/fcp_homepage/you_tube_redux_gary.html and http://www.kenstone.net/fcp_homepage/you_tube_hd_gary.html
Keep in mind that the more compressed the file is (smaller file size), the lessor quality.
As for DVD compression, I've always found Toast's encoder to create poorer quality DVDs than Compressor or DVD Studio Pro.  The best method would be to export a self-contained or reference movie from FCP (Do NOT use QuickTime Conversion), then import that file into Compressor.  Use the DVD preset in Compressor that best matches your movie's duration.  You can duplicate and adjust presets as needed for your particular movie.  Compressor will create the needed MPEG-2 video file (.m2v) and Dolby Digital audio file (.ac3).  Import those two files into DVD Studio Pro for authoring and burning.

  • Best options for decent quality output?

Hi all, I'm using a Canon HG10 shooting HD AVCHD. I am pretty pleased with the new archive facility as it's helping save space, and I'm debating whether to edit in 960x540 or 1920x1080.
The 1080 footage looks way better onscreen (to my eye at least) in the original AVCHD and the ingested AIC format. However I can't seem to get a really decent output stage.
Can anyone recommend share/export settings that will give me 1080 video in the 4-8gb/hr range that approaches the quality of the raw footage?
    Thanks in advance!

For good quality 1920x1080 video, you will need much higher data rates.
If you are burning BluRay, export using Quicktime in AIC, and drag the resulting file into TOAST version 9 or 10. If you want to play on a Sony PS3 or on your MAC, export using QuickTIme to h.264 format.
Here are some settings that work for me:
    1) export from iMovie using Share using Quicktime...
    2) select format MPEG-4
    3) select options:
    a) under file format select MP4 (not MP4 ISMA)
    b) under video tab select H.264
data rate in of 16000 to 18000 kbits/sec (Toast uses 16000 when burning to BluRay)
    image size---1920X1080HD
    frame rate---select 29.97 (I am NTSC)
key frame---select either automatic or every 24 frames
video options---select "MAIN" profile and single pass encoding
under audio tab select default AAC-LC
under streaming tab select default "not enabled"

When watching a movie on my iPad 2 with headphones (they're Bose so good quality) on a plane I can barely hear even with volume at highest level--any suggestions on how to increase sound level outside of normal settings-sound level even lower when using a splitter--thanks

Same problem with all headphones and earbuds--just checked settings and Volume Limit was already off--starting to think it's a volume system flaw tied to videos and related sound.   No problem getting plenty of sound volume for music, only videos.

  • Need good quality video to post for website, but under 2MB.  How?

    Hi all-
I need some help with exporting a video that will be viewed on a personal business website. I need it to look good, but the web designer says it must be no more than 2 MB. How do I export this 4 minute clip at a decent viewing size, with good quality and keep it so small? I have flipped through the Ken Stone articles and I get so overwhelmed by them. Is there an EASY way to do this?
Thanks sooo very much for any feedback.
    Karen

    Hi Peter -
Thanks for your response. The video is of a speaking presentation, to be shown to organizations on the web that might want to hire the speaker, so quality should be decent. So far I just did Ken Stone's recommendation of 320x240, H.264 @ 2000, mono, AAC 64 bit, best quality.... silly me. Of course that resulted in a 63.4 MB video!! Now I just don't know what I need to alter to make it so incredibly smaller and still be worth watching. When i get back from dinner, i will try to do the ipod size and see what happens. Thanks for the suggestion.
Any other helpful hints are very much appreciated!
    Thanks,
    Karen

  • I use Garageband 09 to record voice overs via podcasting, female narrator noisy, but keep getting an intermittent clicking sound. It's not the metronome. I have a good quality external USB mic plugged in. Any ideas?

I use GarageBand 09 to record voice overs via the Podcasting then Female Narrator Noisy utility. I have a good quality external mic plugged in. I keep getting an intermittent clicking sound on the audio track. It's not the metronome as that is turned off. I have to edit out the clicking after recording. I can see the spikes on the waveline. Any ideas how I can prevent this happening?

Hi again and thanks so much for replying.
The 'mic jack' on the old mic is both wide and large, measuring about an inch and a quarter from the base (where it comes out of the black encasing) to the edge of the tip (sort of cone shaped). As I can't plug this in directly to any port in the back of the Mac, I thought it might be possible to to buy some sort of adapter so that I could plug in the jack at one end, with a USB connector at the other end to go straight into the Mac. But I see from your comment that you are suggesting a smaller jack itself (i.e., large size jack to small size jack and then plug in to the small round port, instead of jack to USB port)?
At the Mac shop I bought a USB adapter to connect up a second monitor (screen). I've just dug out the package and it's called a mini display port to VGA adapter. But back to the mic issue, I don't want to use the old mic really, I'm just trying to eliminate whether or not my usual mic, or its USB cable, is at fault and causing the clicking.
I looked on Amazon for a suitable adapter but there was mention of these little gadgets having a sound card. As the Mac obviously has its own internal sound card, I couldn't see the point of another (exernal) one, unless it was actually required to convert the sound from input to output (playback) or something. One review said sound quality was lost but the person had a problem with his speakers, not a ticking sound while playing back recordings - which is obviously my problem.
I do have a headset that I used to use for Skype. It has a pink and a green jack. I could plug one into the "headphones symbol' port and try recording again with Garageband. At least the jack is the right size. Again, this is just for the purpose of eliminating whether my good mic on a stand with the anti-popping sheild is at fault.
While my Mac does have both inbuilt speakers (I don't need external ones) and an inbuilt microphone, the latter is not of a high enough quality for voice overs, hence buying an external mic etc. But whatever is causing the clicking or ticking is obviously affecting the quality of my recordings. As you can imagine, it is very time-consuming to edit out the ticking spikes and if the noise appears during speech, you can't edit it out at all.
Please keep the suggestions coming. I am determined to get to the bottom of this for my sake and everyone else who is suffering from the same problem!

  • What are good quality speakers to purchase for mini mac

what are good quality speakers to purchase for mini mac?

While I can't recommend any brand of camera, you should consider a couple of things about the editing... iMovie 8 is a good program to use if you just need to create something quickly with little real editing and sound manipulation. And iM 8 will interface with both DV tape cameras as well as hard disk/flash drive types as well. You can export the product to web services, etc very easily but it will take some extra effort to create a DVD from the edited shots. There is no direct export to iDVD.
If you want to get more serious about editing, you should consider looking iMovie 6 as it has much more flexibility in rearranging clips, adding and editing sounds, etc. However, it will only interface with DV tape cameras, which by the way, are the highest quality pics available, and you can create DVD disks.
You might try borrowing a tape camera to make a test run and compare it to a camera that uses a HD for storage. Use iM 8 and compare to ease, etc, and the product to one created in iM 6. This certainly is not the kind of recommendation you are asking for, but maybe will help in making your decision about which way to go.
