  • How to capture the exact SQL exception for failure to connect to database

    Hi, i would like to capture the exact exception for failure to connect to a Oracle 9i database (via JDBC). I learnt that there is specific code or exception that can be captured, so that a more proper error message can be thrown out like "Failure to connect to database" can be displayed. Anyone know how to go about doing it? thanks

    That depends on your database vendor, I believe. (Unless there's a SQL standard for states and codes that I'm unaware of.)
    Personally, I wouldn't worry about "catching" a particular code. (You've already caught the exception - that's the best you can do.) I'd report the error code and state and just look up what it means when I got one.
    Hopefully you won't be catching exceptions. They're supposed to be rare. - MOD

  • Looking for help on connecting Airport Express to Belkin F5D7230-4

    I have been reading post after post with a similar problem with help. From other post, it sounds like this Belkin router will work with Airport Express(AE), but I have not found help on how to make it work.
    Here is the problem.
    I need to extend my internet signal from my office to my living room. The Belkin router is connected to my cable modem in my office. The Express is in my kitchen (between the two rooms). I set it up for expanding the signal and the light on the AE continues to flash yellow. I have called Apple and they were able to help me set it up, but it only works for AirTunes (and I am guessing anything plugged into the USB port), but NOT for internet.
    Here are some of the things I have tried.
    ~~ I have connected the AE to the cable modem to check that is does work, and it does.
    ~~ I have moved the device closer to the router and still not working.
    ~~ I have made sure the Belkin settings are set for WDS, which it always was. I have reset the router and the AE.
    What am I missing? Do I need an updated firmware? I have read on another post about a D-Link that needed DHCP and NAT disabled, but I don't understand how to do that and on which device? Any help would be appreciated.

    Thanks for the article. I have read that before.
    The WDS was already enabled on my router so that did not help. There is something else missing somewhere on these steps that I am not understanding.
    I assume that the AP direction is meant if I plan to use the Belkin router as an AP not the main router? Where in this case the AP is actually my Express, and my express does not have a similar interface to change things to the settings mentioned.

  • Need help in connecting to Database

    Hi,
    I have installed Oracle Database 10g Express Edition.I can connect to the standard hr schema (hr/hr) via both command line and SQL Developer. But when I installed Oracle DevSuite 10g today to work on Oracle reports builder,
    I can't connect to that by SQL*PLUS or inside any other application ,like reports.
    I get a ORA-12560 TNS Protocol adapter error.
    I have also looked up my tnsnames.ora file ; it has a working localhost entry.
    Please suggest a way to connect to it.Thanks.
    -RC

    ORA-12560 can mean that ORACLE_SID environment variable is not set at OS level on Windows.
    If this is not the case please see Testing and Troubleshooting Oracle Net Services http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/B19306_01/network.102/b14212/part3.htm#i436520

  • Help! connection to database

    hi I'm trying to connect to mysql using the connector\j driver.
    I'm getting an exception saying that the class for the driver can't be found, however it is definately in my path. I'm using windows XP as an operating system. Ive done stack trace and it definately is a problem with the following statement:
    Class.forName("com.mysql.jdbc.Driver").newInstance();
    My full source is as follows:
    import java.sql.*;
    import java.awt.*;
    import java.awt.event.*;
    import java.util.*;
    class jill
         public static void main(String[] args)
              System.out.println("Hello World!");
              try
                   Class.forName("com.mysql.jdbc.Driver").newInstance();
                   java.sql.Connection conn;
                   conn = DriverManager.getConnection(
                   "jdbc:mysql://localhost/test?user=blah&password=blah");
              catch (SQLException sqlException)
                   System.out.println("SQL: " + sqlException.getMessage());
              catch (ClassNotFoundException classNotFoundException)
                   System.out.println("Driver not right: " +
                   classNotFoundException.getMessage());
                   classNotFoundException.printStackTrace();
              catch (Exception instantiationException)
                   System.out.println("Instantiation error: " +
                   instantiationException.getMessage());
    I 'd grately appreciate any help!

    I found the problem! A pretty simple one really, I thought that the path variable was equivalant to the classpath variable.
    Therefore I didn't bother creating a classpath variable and adding the path to the driver on there. But when I did do this it worked of course.

  • Help needed connecting to database

    I have had difficulty following the instructions in the
    getting started manual for Dreamweaver MX in Chapter 7 (Setup for
    Sample ColdFusion Site) in the section "connecting to the sample
    database" under "creating a ColdFusion data Source". It says:
    "1 In Dreamweaver, open a ColdFusion page.
    2 In the Databases panel (Window > Databases), click the
    Modify Data Sources icon (the second icon from the right on the
    panel toolbar).
    ColdFusion Administrator opens in a browser.
    3 Log in to ColdFusion Administrator and create a data source
    called connGlobal pointing to the global.mdb database file."
    Not knowing what a "ColdFusion page" is, I try clicking
    File>New... and edit preferences to set the default to
    Coldfusion page, close and reopen dreamweaver so that it says
    "document type: ColdFusion" in the application>databases panel.
    However, when I click on Modify Data Sources, a "Coldfusion
    administrator URL" box appears prompting with
    http://localhost/cfide/administrator/datasources/index.cfm.
    When I click OK it does nothing (and clicking Test produces error
    404) and I don't get a login prompt.
    Can someone tell me if I'm on the right track? Thankyou,
    Charles

    Do you have ColdFusion installed on your PC? You can get a
    free developer version from Adobe. Then, you'll need to set up your
    site's Testing Server, server model as ColdFusion.

  • Unable to connect to database; verify that database TCP/IP port service is

    Hi i have a problem with a few servers when i'm trying to upgrade from SAP 2007 SP00 PL47 to SAP 2007 SP1 PL06, i run the upgrade for SBO-COMMON and gives me the message Unable to connect to database; verify that database TCP/IP port service is  started, and i don't know why, i hope you can help me.
    Julieta

    Hi,
    Ensure that the connection to the database is configured properly.
       1. Check that the TCP/IP port is not being blocked by a Firewall.
       2. Set the Server's Remote Connection to accept TCP/IP connections.
    Microsoft SQL Server 2005 -> Configuration Tools -> SQL Server Surface Area Configuration -> Server Surface Area Configuration for Services and Connections -> MSSQLSERVER -> Database Engine -> Remote Connections
    Restart the 'SQL Server (MSSQLSERVER)', and run the upgrade again.
    Hope this will resolve your issue !

    Hi,
    From your description, you want to achieve the following goal:
    Configure Exchange to filter the attachments if the size is over 10 MB and store it in a public folder, and then forward the email to Salesforce.
    Based on my knowledge, I'm afraid that it can't be achieved. Exchange can filter messages with attachments, but it couldn't store these attachments on public folder automatically. Also, I don't see any transport rule can do it.
    Hope my clarification is helpful.

  • Problem in connecting to database from webdynpro for java

    Hi
    I have a problem in connecting to database from webdynpro application
    I am using oracle 10 express edition as database and was able to connect to database from a java application.But  was unable to connect from a webdynpro for java.
    <b>I guess webdynpro for java uses open sql instead of vendor sql(I looked in the visual admin ,DB is using open sql) so unable to connect to database.Am i right.?</b>
    Do i need to make any settings in the visual admin to make it work?
    How to solve this problem.Please give me pointers
    Thanks
    Bala

    Hi,
    For connecting to Oracle, either you can use the normal JDBC connectivty code directly which is given below :
    DriverManager.registerDriver(new oracle.jdbc.driver.OracleDriver());
    Connection conn = DriverManager.getConnection("jdbc:oracle:thin:@Oracle_server_ip:Oracle port:SID of the Database","user_name","password");
    Statement stmt = conn.createStatement();
    ResultSet rs = stmt.executeQuery("your query");
    In case you want to fetch data through ejbs, these are the steps to be followed :
    1) Open the J2EE perspective
    2) Create an EJB Module project
    3) Right click on ejbModule, create a new EJB (select your EJB type)
    4) While creating the ejb itself, you can add business methods by clicking ‘Next’ in the UI. Another option is after creating the ejb, write the method in the bean, then select the method from ejb-jar.xml -> <bean name> ->method. Right click and select ‘propogate to local & remote’.
    5) Double click on ejb-j2ee-engine.xml. select your bean and specify a Jndi name for eg: “MyJndi”.
    6) Right click on the EJB project and add ‘classes12.zip’ file (provided by Oracle) to it’s build path. (under libraries tab). Also check the same file under ‘Order & Export’.
    7) Create an Enterprise Application project.
    8) Right click on the EJB module project and select add to EAR project, then select the created EAR project.
    9) Right click on the EJB project, select ‘Build EJB Archive’
    10) Right click on the EAR project, select ‘Build Application Archive’
    11) Open the WebDynpro perspective, open a new project, right click on the project ->properties. Do the following configurations :-
    • Java Build path - select the EJB project from ‘projects’ , check the selected project under ‘Order & Export’
    • Project references – select the EAR project
    • WebDynpro references – select ‘sharing references’ tab, click add & make an entry as : <vendor>/<EAR project name without .ear extension>
    You can find the vendor name under ‘application-j2ee-engine.xml’ file of the EAR project. By default it is ‘sap.com’. So if my EAR project’s name is ABC, my entry would look like ‘sap.com/ABC’
    12) Now the configurations are over and the EJB can be invoked by writing the client code inside the webdynpro component. Like:
    InitialContext context = new InitialContext();
    Object obj = context.lookup("MyJndi");
    MyEJBHome home = MyEJBHome)PortableRemoteObject.narrow(obj,MyEJBHome.class);
    MyEJB mybean = home.create();
    int a = 0;
    a= mybean.add(10,15);
    wdContext.currentContextElement().setSum(a);
    where ‘MyEJB’ is my EJB name and ‘MyJndi’ is my JNDI name
    To connect to Oracle , you can write the usual Java code (given below) as a business methos of the ejb (similar to add() method in the example). And access it like mybean.<businessMethodName>().
    DriverManager.registerDriver(new oracle.jdbc.driver.OracleDriver());
    Connection conn = DriverManager.getConnection("jdbc:oracle:thin:@Oracle_server_ip:Oracle port:SID of the Database","user_name","password");
    Statement stmt = conn.createStatement();
    ResultSet rs = stmt.executeQuery("your query");

  • Problem about using Oracle Form 6i to connect Oracle Database 10g express.

    Sorry to interrupt all of you.
    I have encountered a problem about using Oracle Form 6i to connect Oracle Database 10g express.
    As I would like to
    I use Oracle Net8 Easy Config to create a connection.
    According to "tnsnames.ora", the paramater of connection is as follows;
    XE =
    (DESCRIPTION =
    (ADDRESS = (PROTOCOL = TCP)(HOST = 127.0.0.1)(PORT = 1521))
    (CONNECT_DATA = (SID = XE))
    Unfortunately, when I use Oracle Net8 Easy Config to test the connection, an error message is prompted as follows:
    Connecting....
    The test did not succeed.
    ORA-03106: fatal two-task communication protocol error
    There may be an error in the fields entered
    or the server may not be ready for a connection.
    You can check the server and retry, or continue.
    After I google it, I still have no idea how to solve the problem. I would like to ask, could anyone mind providing some hints or solution to address the issues.
    Thanks for your assistance in advance.

    I don't believe the Net8 Easy Config (NEC) will create a compatible entry in the tnsnames.ora. I have Forms 6i running successfully against a 10g Express database, but I did not use the NEC - I created the entry myself. Here is the entry I use:
    XE=
      (DESCRIPTION=
        (ADDRESS=
          (PROTOCOL=TCP)
          (HOST=<<servername or IP address>>)
          (PORT=1521)
        (CONNECT_DATA=
          (SERVER=dedicated)
          (SERVICE_NAME=XE)
      )Hope this helps,
    Craig B-)

  • Is there a way to turn the wireless capabilities off on an AirPort Express?  I have an AirPort Extreme as my main router and use the express to just extend it. I only really want to you use the express for hard ethernet connections

    Is there a way to turn the wireless capabilities off on an AirPort Express?  I have an AirPort Extreme as my main router and use the express to just extend it. I only really want to you use the express for hard ethernet connections. For whatever reason when I have my express extend my wifi at home the download speed from just the express is absolutely terrible, drops to about 1.5 mb compared to when it's on the extremes part of the network the speed goes up to 50-75mb. These terrible download speed really only affects the iPhones as my MacBook Pro usually gets the good speed no matter where it is. I don't believe there is anything wrong with my phone because if I am in the part of the house that uses just the extreme the download speeds on the iphone goes up to 50-75mb. As a note I have an AirPort Extreme on the top floor of my house (second floor) that's where my modem is located. On the first floor that's where one airport express is located. I also have another airport express in the basement that is accessed by my landlord. Any thoughts on how to fix this would be helpful.

    It appears that your networking goals with the AirPort Express is to use it as a wireless Ethernet bridge instead of using it to extend the wireless range of your AirPort Extreme. The latter requires that the Express Wi-Fi radios be enabled.
    If you intended to use the Express as a wireless bridge, you just need to reconfigure it to "Join a wireless" network instead of "Extend a wireless network."
    For whatever reason when I have my express extend my wifi at home the download speed from just the express is absolutely terrible, drops to about 1.5 mb compared to when it's on the extremes part of the network the speed goes up to 50-75mb.
    In an extended network, the placement of the extending base station is critical as it can only extend the wireless network at the bandwidth at which it receives it.
    Please check out the following AirPort User Tip for details on optimal base station placement.

  • Help: FORMS SERVER cannot connect to database (forms patch9)

    Hi:
    I've installed oracle 9i database and oracle 9ias 1.0.2.2.2a.
    I configured FormsServlet and it's working very well as i suceed my test in http://machina.domain/servlet/oracle.forms.servlet.ListenerServlet!
    The problem is that i cannot connect to the database and i got the error ORA-12203 TNS: Unable to connect to destination!
    I've changed jserv.properties as recommended in 9ias 10222 release notes by commenting the wrapper.env=ORACLE_HOME in OJSP because it conflicts with forms server home.
    I've read all about this, and i still cannot connect to the database.
    I'm using a forms servlet configuration with IE JVM.
    If anyone can help me... i apreciate it!
    By the way in my jserv.properties forms server config i have:
    # Oracle Forms and Reports Servers
    wrapper.classpath=C:\ORACLE\806\forms60\java\f60srv.jar
    wrapper.classpath=C:\ORACLE\806\forms60\java
    If i have this the Test native method call (JNI) fails, but forms server keeps running. The error is:
    Calling RunformProcess.nInitLib()...
    RunformProcess.nInitLib() failed:
    java.lang.NoClassDefFoundError: oracle/forms/servlet/RunformProcess
    Your server configuration needs correcting. Please refer to the Forms documentation for details
    If i comment the f60srv.jar as showed here i suceed the test
    # Oracle Forms and Reports Servers
    # wrapper.classpath=C:\ORACLE\806\forms60\java\f60srv.jar
    wrapper.classpath=C:\ORACLE\806\forms60\java
    So... anyone help ?
    Ricardo
    PS: I can't understand why oracle keep sending huge amounts of releases of products and everytime they send a new release, that new release keeps coming with new bugs.

    Hi:
    This just connection problem just happen if i use formsservlet http connect mode. if i use normal HTTP (without servlet)connect mode with Jinitiator (1.1.8.16) i successfully connect to database (oracle 9i).
    Anyone there using 9ias 1.0.2.2.2a with forms server servlet and oracle database 9i ?
    thankx

      }How do i merge these two together so that a catalogItem is created by connecting to the database and uses the select statement?? If any one can help me here i would be really grateful as i am having real trouble with this.

    Below is what i have come up with (I cut out the code that just gets in the way for this post, eg the connect to database and import statements) My problem is this would only work once has i need to add the item to the array addedItem in the first for loop, can anybody help me with this has i have tried a number of ways but can't get it to compile.
