Hi
All,
I have installled Oracle database 10.2.0.3 on AIX server and Application will be hosted on websphere on LINUX.
Now I don't know what are the things require to connect with oracle database from websphere application on LINUX.. for example .. connection string , driver etc..
any help will be appreciated.
Thanks,

Compression for oracle database and index compression during import of data
Hi All,
I have a query , in order to import into oracle database and also have compression and index compression , do we have some kind of load args for r3load and also do we have to change the tpl file ?Hello guy,
I did this kind of compression within migration project before.
I performed index compress first and then export -> import with table compress.
One thing you should take care, delete nocompress flag from TARGET.SQL (created by program SMIGR_CREATE_DDL, program SMIGR_CREATE_DDL created pure non-compression objects for these considered non-standard tables). For table columns > 255, we should not delete this flag.
Regarding to the index compress in source system, please check the following notes:
Note 1464156 - Support for index compression in BRSPACE 7.20
Note 1109743 - Use of Index Key Compression for Oracle Databases
Note 682926 - Composite SAP note: Problems with "create/rebuild index"

I want to add groups to my LDAP user account abc. Currently I have uid=243782(abc) gid=10(wheel) groups=1275(nsn-emp),9834(nsn-moh),10(wheel), but I want groups oinstall, oper and dba added.
According to the database installation document, local os group must include oinstall and dba.
The following local operating system groups and users are required if you are
installing Oracle Database:
■ The Oracle Inventory group (typically, oinstall)
■ The OSDBA group (typically, dba)
■ The Oracle software owner (typically, oracle)
I tried to add abc groups oinstall and dba using root user, but it failed.
Could you please inform me how to add these groups?
Thanks.
lfFolks,
Hello. Thanks a lot for replying. I do the following command: [user@localhost bin]$ wget http://localhost.localdomain:1158/em
The command returns the message:

We have T5440. We will be creating 5 LDOMS on this. Each LDOM will host Oracle database server. This is for functional testing purpose only. No performance test will be performed on this setup.
Four ISCSI LUNs (500 GB each) are attached to this machine. Our system administrator has created two zpool for these LUNS. Each machine will be given two virtual disk (one for data and one for OS) from these zpool.
Write cache will not be disabled at scsi level or at zpool level or even at guest OS filesystem (UFS) level.
My question - Is this the right way to configure disks for LDOMs running oracle database? [I know we will not be performing any performance test but oracle database server running on these machines should be usable enough]
Thanks

I've downloaded the two zipped install folders for Oracle Database, and the two zipped install folders for the Grid Infrastructure. The book I'm following for installation says to use one directory for the database, and one directory for the Grid Infrastructure, but it doesn't explain where they should be located in OFA. Presumably they should both end up somewhere in the same Oracle Base (since everything Oracle related on a single file system should go in the same base, according to my understanding), but it isn't clear where they should be installed in relation to each other. For example, is the Grid Infrastructure a separate product that gets its own Oracle Home? Can anyone shed light on this process?
Also, does it matter to which location the zipped files are unzipped? For example, are any of these files used after the installation process, or does OFA only care about post-installation location?I think this links may be helpful -- ORACLE-BASE - Oracle Database 11g Release 2 RAC On Oracle Linux 5.8 Using VirtualBox, http://www.oracle.com/technetwork/articles/hunter-rac11gr2-iscsi-088677.html.
OFA -- Optimal Flexible Architecture standard. The standard is a set of configuration guidelines created to ensure well organized Oracle installations that are easier to maintain (http://docs.oracle.com/cd/B28359_01/install.111/b32002/app_ofa.htm#LADBI440).
It relates to location of the grid and dbms files location. Actually you should specify base directory and follow installer. System will be installed in correct directories.
It does not matter where you will unzip your distributives. You may delete them after installation to free space. -
What kind of storage we should use for oracle database?
Hi
thank you for reading my post
Can some one please explain what kind of hardware storage is common for oracle database, and kindly please provide some explanations about the reason that we can use such storage?Perhaps you're thinking about RAID, an acronym for Redundant Array of Inexpensive Disks? That's not specific to Oracle by any means, it's a very common way of setting up multiple disks in a server so that the failure of one or two disks doesn't cause the system to lose any data. If you're dealing with a server of any size or any sort of SAN or NAS device, it is going to use RAID, the question is which form of RAID (there are different sorts of configurations with different levels of cost, performance, and durability).

Can we have oracle database and gateway for SLQServer on same machine
Can we install oracle database and Gateway for sQLServer on same machine>?
If yes, How does the listener files in gateway home (EG: C:\product\11.2.0\NETWORK\ADMIN) and oracle home (EG: C:\app\Administrator\product\11.2.0\dbhome_1\NETWORK\ADMIN) look like?
Where will we give dg4msql details in tnsnames and listner files? Here is the output of starting both the listeners. This is output when i appended listener1 settings in Oracle_home listener.ora file.

This blog post provides a suggested methodology for helping users of VMware vROps/vCOps decide which of the existing solutions, the vROps Management Pack for Oracle EM and the VMware vROps Hyperic Plugins for Oracle, should be used to monitor their Oracle workloads.
It’s been a nearly a year since VMware transferred the vCOps Adapter for Oracle Enterprise Manager (OEM) to Blue Medora and since that transfer Blue Medora has released a number of major updates as well as rebranded it the Blue Medora vROps Management Pack for Oracle EM. Over that same period of time VMware has continued to evolve their Oracle-focused (Oracle Database and WebLogic J2EE) Hyperic agent-based plugins culminating most recently with a October 2014 update to the Oracle Database plugin that provides support for Oracle Database 12c.

How to choose a right server for Oracle Database!
Hi all,
Is there any formular that allows me to find the appropriate server configuration for Oracle database 11g?
Please help!
Thank you all.
Dan.
Edited by: Dan on 01:45 06-01-2013Simply put ... no.
Determining the correct server is a dance between hardware vendors (one point of input to be treated with general distrust), internal expertise and experience working with similar systems, and most importantly understanding the behaviour of what you are building.
Here are some sample questions to start the ball rolling.
1. What operating system expertise does your organization have?
2. What operating system expertise is readily available in the community from which you hire applicants?
3. What type of application?
4. What are up-time expectations?
5. Requirements for high availability?
6. Requirements for time to perform a full recovery?
7. Requirements for security?
8. Storage footprint (dictates internal storage versus SAN, NAS, or ZFS)
9. Anticipated growth (3-7 years)
Everyone wants to sell you CPU clock-ticks, more RAM, more IOPS, etc. But the first thing you need to understand is the capabilities you require that are generic: Required of any solution. Only when you have a clear understanding of these factors are you ready to discuss whether the solution is a pizza box or an ODA ... an Exadata or an IBM System Z.
Far too often I find people purchasing RAM they don't need with CPU speeds that exceed the ability of their network infrastructure to move the data so pay special attention when you are ready to make your purchase to engineered systems like the ODA.
