I found this bit of info on the interweb. I'm pretty sure most of us knew this anyway but it just clarifies the situation. It was found at

Several user as well as we ourselves have discovered a communications problem between Motorola phone models SLVR L7, PEBL and RAZR V3x/V3i on one side and Macs on the other side. They have a general Bluetooth communication problem. They can pair, but can not exchange data about services they provide to each other. This means in fact, you can't use Bluetooth to exchange data between these 4 Motorola phones and Macs at the moment. You have to wait until this problem is solved between Apple and Motorola.

Interesting but it still doesnt answer the other problems like why my Sony Ericsson no longer Syncs.
I have spoken to Motorola about this problem and this is their response:
"In regards to your query, Motorola do not support Apple. While I see that some consider this an issue (Apple Discussions), there is no software update planned to resolve this.
Apple have produced their own software for synchronisation of Motorola Phones called iSync. To download it please visit this link: http://www.apple.com/isync/. For a list of supported Motorola devices please visit: http://www.apple.com/isync/devices.html. iSync does not support file transfer."
So it looks like no more Motorola stuff for me, and quite a few more I'd imagine? SonyEricsson all the way, until the iPhone comes out anyway!

You might try contacting the local school district's special needs people - this is something they will be familiar with. Also if you have a local cerebral palsy organization they might be able to point you in the right direction. Assistive software and devices do exist but I am too far out of that loop these days to give any specific help.

Are there any amazing features for people with disabilities not available in Windows?
I do volunteer work at a group in Tokyo which provides English conversation and light computer lessons for people with various kinds of disabilities on Sundays at a community center.
They want me to come in on Sundays for a few months and teach people - such as their other teachers - how to use Apple computers. And they bought all the teachers, including me, new MacBook Airs or MacBook Pros.
The thing is, these people are basically all Windows users, and they seem, somehow, to use their Windows machines just fine with varying disabilities. In particular, some portion of the group are blind. There is a Mac enthusiast who has gotten it into his mind that he wants more of his fellow members using Macs, rather than Windows, so he is behind this new project.
I know there are "accessibility features" for the Mac, though I've not really made use of them myself except for some light testing so far to see that they work.
My question is "why Mac?" I am a Mac user myself, and I enjoy using a Mac. But I think it is probably a matter of what you are used to. If these people are happy using their Windows machines I don't know of anything I can say to make them want to switch. So I'm not sure how practical or productive the entire plan is, though I'm happy to try to help out, and I enjoy working with the group.
I can certainly teach these people, who are not familiar with Macs, how to use them. I've been using Macs for years and years.
But is there anything I can say about why Mac features for people with disabilities are better than Windows features? Any examples anybody can point me to?
Like I said, I'm happy to go over there on Sundays and help out and bring my new MacBook Pro over and hook it up to the projector and point out interesting things you can do on the Mac and answer questions.
But the big question that I can't answer is, "Are there benefits to using a Mac over Windows for people with disabilities?" If anybody knows of any, please let me know! I don't want the person promoting this project to feel it was a waste at all. I think basically he feels left out being basically the only Mac user there and wants to generate more of a circle of supportive people around him who are Mac users since he himself is losing his sight. So if there are factual, practical reasons for "Why Mac for people with disabilities" I would like to explain them.

It sounds like you are doing a good job with your technology students. I've been an Apple Mac user for well over 30 years and occasionally had to use Windows when using MS Access. To my mind, the Mac is much easier to use from the "Starting Grid" than Windows. And having worked in a University with both platforms, the cult is fairly evenly balanced. However, the current generations of Apple Tablets are infinately easier to understand than OSX or Win7/8. I think there is an old saying here which has many merits "If it ain't broke" don't try and fix it". If your students are learning to understand Windows and are coping with it, the confusion of teaching them Mac, might actually give yourself a potential nightmare scenario. Certainly Microsoft with Windows 8, is trying to bring the latest operating system into the 21st Century, and whilst it wouldn't suit me, why create a dilemma for yourself when they seem to be happy with what they've got.
In terms of your final paragraph, and reaching for the proverbial glass ball, I can see a future of tablets gaining even more popularity, and with the likes of Siri, which is in part available now on the iPhone. Surely this is the path of the future where one can talk to the device and gain an immediate response. Even Steve Wozniak hinted at this in a television interview on BBC's Click television programme. I'm sorry there's no definitive answer to your question, but hats off to Gene Roddenberry whose imagination has given inspiration to the makers of our devices that has created a communications world and is infinately getting closer to the audience you are trying to reach out to. -
Is there anyway I can get buy a Moto X customized phone? I spent most of the day talking with Motorola and Verizon.. it seems the two companies need to have a chat on how to freakn work together to order this phone online. I feel like a bunch of dementors sucked the life outta me, I need chocolate and alcohol to help me feel better... eeeek!
One thing that I finally had to do when I got my phone on MotoMaker was to buy it outright, after getting an account with Motorola--that way I could get a customized one with 32GB storage. I recall that I could not get it in that size with the usual contract term with Verizon. The Edge option for some reason was not available to me either, don't recall why.
But by buying it through Motorola credit, I could spread the purchase price over 12 months--kind of Edge lite. Then when my contract status changed over to month-to-month instead of the old-fashioned 2 year system, my line charges went down to $15 per month, as it would using the Edge option. -
Having trouble when I launch iTunes (version 11.0.2) on my Dell Laptop running Windows 7 Professional (service pack 1). I get an error message indicating software required to communicate with iPod and mobile phones was not installed correctly. Do you want iTunes to try to repair this for you? I normally respond with OK and it immediately tells me "could not be repaired. Please reinstall iTunes..." I have done this a number of times to no avail.
I also notice Quicktime is not getting installed at all.
That one is normal nowadays (ever since the iTunes versions 10.5.x).

Let's try a standalone Apple Mobile Device Support install. It still might not install, but fingers crossed any error messages will give us a better idea of the underlying cause of why it's not installing under normal conditions.
Download and save a copy of the iTunesSetup.exe (or iTunes64setup.exe) installer file to your hard drive:

Go into the folder and doubleclick the AppleMobileDeviceSupport.msi (or AppleMobileDeviceSupport64.msi) to do a standalone AMDS install.
(If it offers you the choice to remove or repair, choose "Remove", and if the uninstall goes through successfully, see if you can reinstall by doubleclicking the AppleMobileDeviceSupport.msi again.)
Does it install (or uninstall and then reinstall) properly for you?
If instead you get an error message during the install (or uninstall), let us know what it says. (Precise text, please.) -
2 error messages when opening itunes: "The software required for communicating with Ipods and mobile phones was not installed correctly. Do you want Itunes to repair this for you?" When clicking yes another message indicates not able to remove services. Another message is: "Service (ipod service) could not be installed. Verify that you have sufficient privileges to install system sources." I've uninstalled all Apple services (itunes, quicktime, apple software update, apple mobiles devices support, bonjour and apple application support and reinstalled itunes/quicktime - no change in error messages. I cannot burn CDs using Itunes. This all seemed to happen when I updated itunes to version 10. I have a Windows 7 64-bit operating system on a Dell Inspiron Zino HD; the Itunes software is also 64 bit.

Careless? Possible, but unlikely. Most likely the phone was stolen from the first owner. It would be a VERY careless iPhone owner who did not erase their personal information from a phone before selling it, and to do that it is necessary to disable Activation Lock. In most places in the world knowingly using stolen property is a crime, so the fact that the phone doesn't work may be the least of one's risks. -

ok i've seen this in several threads and haven't found one with an anwser. the software required for communicating with ipod and mobile phones was not installed correctly. of course when you tell it to repair it does not. this has happened several times now and only cure i have found is uninstalling itunes and reinstalling. works for maybe a few weeks then does the same thing and i start all over again with uninstall and reinstall. i tunes version 10.4.1.10 64 bit running on windows 7 64 bit and trying to sync with Iphone 3gs - so anyone have a fix for this or am i stuck reinstalling itunes every few weeks???

Recommendation Request: Best flatbed scanner for use with Mac and iPhoto?
I have a flatbed scanner that Mac doesn't recognize. It's 9 years old, does a great job, but only works with Windows. Period. Don't ask what model or anything, I've already done the research, it's hopeless. MOVING ON... I'm tired of BootCamping to Windows, running scans, and then rebooting and hunting down the files...
So, what flatbed scanner do you use, rank it on scale of 1-10, and how much did it cost?

I'd look for one with high optical resolution. It's akin to the zoom in digital cameras, optical vs digital. FWIW I use a Canon 8600F (now replace by the 8800F) which does slides, film strips as well a photos. What I like about it is that you can scan multiple photos and have each saved to it's own file. Other brands of scanners offer that as well I'm sure but it'sjust a feature to consider. My scanner also came with a bundled copy of Photoshop Elements for Mac. Not the latest version but worked very well. Its replacement also bundles PSE. -
DNS Registration for clients with WLAN and LAN adapters
I have read a number of articles and it seems that there are a number of people who have problems with DNS and workstations with both WLAN and LAN adapters. I haven't however found workable solutions.
Workstation Connection Objective:
To enable DNS discovery and Ip connection to client workstations regardless of whether the client is using the WLAN or LAN. Enabling users to use either Wireless or LAN adapter adhoc. ie they dock their laptops at their desks, and undock to take their laptops
to meetings or consulations with peers. I need to be able to discover and connect to the workstations irrespective of the adapter being used at any time.
Most people seem to try to control which interface is used on the workstations, ie disable WLAN and only use LAN etc. Trying to disable interfaces isn't going to be feasible and its very inflexible.
I believe I can ensure that the workstations use the NICs in our preferred order:
1. LAN
2. WLAN - Our wireless network isn't as fast as the LAN.
By setting specific DHCP metric for the WLAN Router to be higher(ie 2) than the LAN(1). When the LAN isn't connected traffic will route via the WLAN adapter and when the LAN adapter is connected, its router metric will be lower and it will be the preferred
gateway/route.
But how do I solve the DNS resolution for connection to that asset?
If I disable DHCP Server updates into DNS and allow secure updates from the client. It would be really good if DNS client behaved in the following manner
1. The LAN adapter(referred to as primary ie LAN) with the lowest metric(ie 1) registers/auto updates DNS with the ip(both A and PTR). Any other Adapters don't register. - ie the WLAN
2. The Laptop is undocked and the LAN adapter goes offline, the DNS Client then triggers a registration/auto updates its existing DNS entry with the ip from the next adapter(WLAN) with the next lowest gateway metric(2)...hence replacing the first ip registered.
3. The laptop is docked again, and DNS Client triggers a registration/auto updates its existing DNS entry with the IP from the primary adapter(LAN), replacing the WLAN ip.
So there is only ever 1 ipaddress registered for a workstation and it will always be a valid address. Then I don't need to be concerned about whether the user has the wireless turned on and docked.
Being able to discover and communicate with all our workstations in our sites is crucial requirement....

* An IP address is added, removed, or modified in the TCP/IP properties configuration for any one of the installed network connections.
* An IP address lease changes or renews with the DHCP server any one of the installed network connections. For example, when the computer is started or if the ipconfig /renew command is used.
* The ipconfig /registerdns command is used to manually force a refresh of the client name registration in DNS.
* At startup time, when the computer is turned on.
* A member server is promoted to a domain controller.
However from what I am reading, both adapters(LAN,WLAN), if configured to update DNS, will register their Ip addresses. Which leads to an invalid DNS entry if the laptop is undocked, as the IP for LAN adapter isn't removed.
Has anyone solved this problem for their organizations without
1. Controlling which adapter is used - large management overhead
2. Only allowing one adapter to register with DNS
- If using LAN adapter for DNS, then anytime the user is using WLAN, their workstation doesn't have a valid DNS entry. Which also impacts Kerberos.
- If using the WLAN, then we would have to invest a large amount of money into Wireless to provide the necessary bandwidth
3. Setting GPO's to configure dns updates every 30mins on clients
- Inconsistent results...which I think is sometimes a worse problem
4. Defining separate DNS suffixes for their WLAN networks (I read some people did this)
- This doesn't remove an invalid DNS entry ie the ip(LAN adapter) DNS entry if the laptop is undocked
- It also creates problems with kerberos, if the host is registered under a separate DNS suffix from the Active Directory domain nameHi,
From my point of view, DNS can't be so smart.
As a workaround, please try the steps below,
Disable the DNS register of wireless adapter
Put "ipconfig /regiserdns" in a bat file
Everytime when the wired network is undocked, run the bat file.
If the wired network is docked, wired adapter will register the DNS record.
When the wired network is undocked, run the bat file, then the wireless adapter will register the DNS record.
If the wired network is docked again, wired adapter will register the DNS record automatically.
