For Roger Wilmut1

Hi Roger,
I'm trying to set up iCloud mail on Leopard 10.5.8 using your (very helpful) instructions at:
http://www.wilmut.webspace.virginmedia.com/notes/icloudmail.html
However, I'm having problems with the outgoing server as your instructions say to input as smtp.mail.me.com but the Account Summary shows the server as smtp.me.com
Should the Account Summary show smtp.mail.me.com?
Regards,
Nick.

A lot of weird stuff happened with ID's & passwords during the run of the problem. I eventually got past the Discussions login screen only to be told that my password had expired & I needed to choose a new one.
That much worked (unfortunately, I guess) but I still could not log in because the new PW process kept insisting that I had to choose three security questions & answers to continue. The problem with that is there were no predetermined questions, just blanks to fill in your own (I guess) but no matter what I did, I kept getting an error message about the questions not being recognized (whatever that meant) & I could never get past the 'try again' screen & actually log in.
I know the new PW was accepted because when I went to the main Apple ID page to check my settings, it would only accept the new PW & not the old one.
I suspect I've got some work ahead of me to make sure my keychains on all my Macs supply the correct PW.

Can not update iTunes because I have iMac with 10.5.8 . How I will sync my iphone 6.0 with an older version of iTunes on my iMac???? There is no update for the software of my iMac and no update for the iTunes.... So how can I sync????

    Requirements for iPhone 5:
Syncing with iTunes on a Mac or PC requires:
Mac: OS X v10.6.8 or later
PC: Windows 7; Windows Vista; or Windows XP Home or Professional with Service Pack 3 or later
    iTunes 10.7 or later
The highest version of iTunes you can install is 10.6.3 which will not sync with the iPhone 5.

It's always a good idea to check the requirements before purchasing.
The person I spoke with at 1-800-MY-APPLE gave me totally different info...she said the iPhone 5 would in fact sync with the older version of iTunes and that I could restore from my previous iPhone 4 backup and also bring in my music that way.  Hmmm....
I'm inclined to go by the published specs, but now I have to jump thru a bunch of hoops I wasn't expecting to.

Ziatron's post in the second one is pretty comprehensive, and Roger Wilmut1's contribution in the first one.
Either way you need an analogue-to-digital converter and there's not a huge choice.
A couple of mentions are given for the EyeTV Hybrid for this job, but I don't know if that will import to iMovie. The ADC method should import directly.

How do I get a refund for iCloud storage upgrade? I just purchased the icloud storage today but do not need it. It says you can get a refund within 15 days but I can't seem to find a number to get refund.

  • The Adobe Reader ADDON for Firefox 4.0.1 does not work correctly. Do you have an idea how to solve the problem?

I created a fancybox displaying a pdf-file in an iframe on my website http://www.agbcbonn.de/pages/activities/2011.php . It works fine with IE but in Mozilla Firefox 4.0.1 the mouse-wheel controle is lost after closing the box. You can only get back controle of the mousewheel if you klick to another window and then go back but this is really annoying to all users.

Thanks Roger Wilmut1 for your reply. I have Mac OSX 10.7 Lion and iOS5 . And since my question I have solved my own problem by going to System Preferences and Mail, Contacts, Calendars. I added my email addresses, including iCloud, merged the data for contacts etc. And found the missing link I needed to connect iCloud to my iPhone, and Mac calendars and more. Its now perfect.

  • How to delete Services For Objects Attachments?

How can I delete records from SOFFCONT1 selectively, to recover Database space, without corruption of Database integrity in other tables?
Thousands of scanned images have been uploaded to SAP R3 as 'Attachments' to Financial documents, and produced massive amounts of binary data in table SOFFCONT1.  It was thought that 'Links' were being created until Basis saw the size of table SOFFCONT1.
A new methodolgy creates 'Links' to files on a network filer instead.
    The bleeding has stopped!
The original methodology for creating the relationship included the following:
    SO_FOLDER_ROOT_ID_GET
    SO_OBJECT_UPLOAD
    SO_SPLIT_FILE_AND_PATH
    SO_LOIO_PHIO_CREATE
    SO_OBJECT_INSERT
    BINARY_RELATION_CREATE
New records are thereby added to the following tables:
    SOFFLOIO
    SOFFPHIO
    SOFFCONT1
    SOFFPHF
    SOOD
    SOC3
    SOFM
    SRGBTBREL
A debug session of the transaction FB03, display attachments, and delete revealed the following function modules:
    BINARY_RELATION_DELETE
    SO_OBJECT_DELETE_IN_VB
This only deletes the relationship records in tables:
    SOFM
    SRGBTBREL
What I really want to do is delete all traces (records in tables) of these image/document relationships in R3 and recover the Database space.
Is anyone experienced with this recovery process, and has a solution to this requirement?
    Any suggestions welcome.
    Thanks, Marlon

  • Email server for iCloud?

I just moved across from mobile me to iCloud... but now I can't get emails through Entourage. Do I need to change the pop address from mail.me.com, and if so - what to? mail.icloud.com would seem logical, but doesn't work!

  • Forgot password for iCloud account in Apple Mail

    Hi all,
I don't know why but a recently I've been asked to enter my icloud password related to my iCloud e-Mail address.
stupidly, I've forgot what my password is. is there a chance to reset it somehow?
To explain the situation a bit better and what I've tried already, here a short discription of the situation:
    - I do have a appleID that is called [email protected] the related password is appleID_Password1.
with this combination I also conduct my purchases in iTunes and the AppStore. But to rule this possibility already out: It doesn't let me access my iCloud eMail account in Apple Mail. Funny enough, though, when visiting iCloud.com this is the combination with which I log onto iCloud incl it's mail service within the web browser.
    - the iCloud eMail address for whose password I am looking is called something like [email protected] I have implemented it into my Apple Mail program running on Mac OS X Lion. Since setting up the account i've never ever been asked to enter my password. But now, out of a sudden, I was. And, of course, I couldn't remember it anymore. Hence, I don't receive any eMails sent to [email protected] anymore on my mac.
Can somebody tell me how to fix it, if it is not the password for my appleID??
Thanks already for all the help..!!

    Roger Wilmut1 wrote:
Is [email protected] the actual login for iCloud? (The login is not always the same as the email address, it depends on cicumstances.) It's the login, which is an Apple ID, which you need to enter at iforgot.apple.com.
Exactly this is what I am talking about: [email protected] is NOT the login for iCloud.
I used to have an Apple ID way before I've used iCloud. Back then, I provided my gmail-address as to set up my Apple ID.
Now, quite a while later, after I've bought an iPhone, I got access to Apple's iCloud. For the free @me.com eMail address that comes with iCloud I've chosen [email protected] Of course, as it is with every email address you gotta choose a password. I have chosen a different one that I have chosen for my Apple ID. Therefore, knowing the password for my Apple ID account doesn't help me with receiving my [email protected] mails when Apple Mail is asking for my [email protected] password.

  • ICloud unauthorized charge for "upgrade"?

I discovered I'm being charged $40 a year for "upgraded" iCloud storage I never ordered.  Apple Support is useless as they say they can't fix iCloud issues refer you to website support which wants to charge for "Express Lane" support to get them to take off a phony charge on iCloud.
Has anyone run into iCloud unathorized "upgrading" and charging and how did you fix it since Apple Support wants to charge $50 to talk to them about stopping their unathorized $40 "upgrade" charge.

Roger Wilmut1 London, UK  Have you checked that you have actually be charged this? The upgrade is, as said, temporary and free.
Several charges from Apple in October 2011 when they say I "signed up" for iCloud.  I only noticed it when they just killed MobileMe/iDisk and I had to go there to setup up FindMyiPhone and see I'm signed up for $40 year of iCloud storage.
My guess is that was during iCloud rollout when they were trying to get people to drop MobileMe/iDisk and use iCloud until you found out what a disaster iCloud is.   If you said yes to opening an iCloud account they automatically billed for $40 upgrade.
Apparently the scam is it is "free" but  it automatically defaults to "autopay" so user gets charged for unordered storage.
Probably a great "class action" suit for some enterprising lawyer, I'll just put it down to fool me twice, shame on Apple.

  • How can we convince Apple to bring back AppleWorks?

I've been using OS 10.7 for a year and a half, and can only run AppleWorks on my old machine - once it gives up the ghost, I won't be able to use it at all. Numbers and Pages are adequate, but they don't have the ease of use and the flexibility of AppleWorks. Ditto for EZDraw (whose text function *****). AppleWorks is lean, efficient, multifaceted, and easy to use - for my money, it's one of the best apps that Apple has ever produced. I'd sure love to see it developed for 10.7 and beyond...

Roger: since we spoke last the Apple Store has started selling Snow Leopard Server at a 95% reduction in price - $19.99 + sales tax & shipping!  This allows for much easier installation into Parallels and VMWare Fusion (and some say VirtualBox, too) than originally described in my linked thread.
So, as noted in the first paragraph at that linked thread, you can obtain SLS from the Apple Store: 1.800.MYAPPLE (1.800.692.7753) - Apple Part Number: MC588Z/A (telephone orders only).
Here is Appleworks 6.2.9 running in Snow Leopard Server in Parallels 8 for use in Lion or Mt. Lion:

  • Can I sync my iCal calendar to my husband's Google Calendar?

I have read many discussions about this here and on other forums, but can't find an answer that works for what I'm trying to do.
I use iMac, iPhone and iPad and keep track of our family's many activities on 3 iCal calendars (so I can use the different colors to track what each kid is doing.) I would like my husband to be able to view and modify these calendars.  He is on an Android device, uses Google Mail and a PC.
I can easily sync his Google calendar to my iCal using advice from this Google forum (http://support.google.com/calendar/bin/answer.py?hl=en&answer=151674).  I cannot figure out how he can sync my calendar to his Google calendar.
I have exported my iCal calendar and he has imported it into Google calendar just fine, but it is a static picture of the calendar when I export it so doesn't really help keep him up to date.
I have shared the calendar per the link by Roger Wilmut1 (link: http://help.apple.com/icloud/#mm6b1a9479) on this  discussion: https://discussions.apple.com/thread/4599543?start=0&tstart=0.  However iCloud is requesting an iCloud account from him to "Join" the calendar in Google calendars.
If he set up an iCloud account (how??  I don't know) could he then access my iCal and sync it into his Google calendar?
I'm trying to figure out if I should just give up on iCal and switch to a Google calendar.  It is working so nicely right now with my iPhone and iPad I would love to just keep using iCal if possible.  Most of the advice I have seen describes how I can link to his Google calendar (done, but not what I want to do) or says I should move to Google Calendar and stop using iCal.
Would appreciate any solutions you might offer.

I've been using iCloud since it's inception as "mac.com" or whatever it was called. I've been able to Sync Outlook Exchange Calenars to my iMac, iPhone and iPad. However, I cannot get iCal (when viewed in iCloud) to display Exchange or Google Calender items.
It's odd, all other Mac versions of iCal are happy e.g. iMac, MacBook Air, iPad Air, iPhone etc. But nothing when I login to icloud.com and look at the iCal there.

  • HT4489 iCloud login ID

A warning box tells me that my login has to be 21 characters or less for iCloud ID. But the email address I use for my Apple ID has 26 characters. How do I get around this?

Thanks for your help Roger Wilmut1. A quick explanation. The woman in question had 2 Apple IDs and went to the Genius Bar to get this sorted out. They sorted it out but there were a few App casualties along the way. No great drama. Now the Apple User would like to use the same ID for iCloud as the Apple ID the Genius Bar gave her. Why? She's elderly and is finding logins and passwords to be a bit of a chore. Most would agree. Anyway, she's going back to the Genius Bar and will see if she can achieve her dream of a shortened, easy-to-remember, iCloud address. Thanks Roger.

  • Recording my voice at a higher level

    Hi All,
I am recording my voice for a podcast on garageband. I am speaking directly into my mic, which is attached to my computer. How can I record my voice at a higher level. The output is not loud enough and the "track line" is almost flat. How do I change it so I can record at a higher level!
    Thanks!

You will need a mixer or a microphone preamplifier. The audio input on Macs is line level - for example the 'tape' output from a hifi - and is insufficiently sensitive for a microphone.
    Hi, Roger,
I was looking at the Behringer Podcast Studio http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/481377-REG/Behringer_PODCASTUDIO_FIREWIRE_ PODCASTUDIO_FIREWIRE_Bundle.html#features
and was wondering if this would work for a first-time podcast? Is it better to pick the items up piecemeal? I was thinking of the Behringer 1202 (Xenyx or UB) as it has 2 more (total of 4) XLR inputs and it's going for about $75. However, the Firewire audio interface with the studio package alone is going for *$77*. It seems that the combo would be more economical, but I don't want to sacrfice quality too much.
Is a Griffin iMic USB audio interface (or a Behringer UCA202 - Low Latency 2 Input / 2 Output USB/Audio Interface with Digital Output) just as good at around $30?
I already have a several mics, some XLR, some 1/4" jacks -- condenser & dynamic.
Eventually, I'd like to record a podcast with around 3-5 people all doing a round-table type discussion.
    Thanks for any input, Deborah
PS like the Behringer mixer because of the CD/tape input, also, so that I can digitize old cassette tapes.

  • I Can't Seem to Actually Figure Out How to Change my Podcast Feed :-S

I'm reading the posts from Roger Wilmut1, and I have emailed Apple Support, but I just must be very dense, because I can't seem to figure out where to actually make the changes that I'm reading about.
A week ago, I received notice from BlipTV that my original, educational podcast (All About African Violets) apparently no longer complies with their terms of service.   I only have one week left for Blip to keep my existing feed open (but they disabled my account so I cannot upload any more episodes there).
I have switched over to WordPress (where my website is hosted) to host my episodes, and I have nearly all of my episodes (50 so far) uploaded there.  I changed the feed in Feedburner to be correct for WordPress.  Then I tested it, and it worked.  Then, I attempted to try to add the new feed to iTunes.  I unsubcribed from my exiting podcast, and then attempted to resubscribe with the new feed.  Of course, it's not working.
Apple support says I have to lose all my star ratings and reviews, and completely start over. Is that really true?
I'm feeling kinda foolish that I just can't seem to figure it out, but I am not a code writer.  I can see the full feed in Feedburner - is that where I make the changes I'm reading about?  I saw one about a new URL.  And, then do I still then have to submit the new feed?  Where do I do that?
Sorry to seem to clueless, but this is very frustrating - I want to do it correctly.
If there is someone who would be willing to walk me through this, I would be so grateful for the help.
    Thank you,
    Annie9797

Roger - thank you so much for responding.  Originally - last year when I started my podcast, I submitted the BlipTV feed, and it's been working fine until they disabled my account.  Episodes 1-49 are there in the store, but Episode 50 (which is on WordPress) is not.
On Feedburner, when I switched over to WordPress, I was instructed to change "Original Feed" to be as follows:  http://allaboutafricanviolets.com/feed/
Here is what Feedburner says for Feedburner Feed:  http://feeds.feedburner.com/AllAboutAfricanViolets
It also says that the Feed Title is:    All About African Violets
I cannot access iTunes from where I am right now, so I cannot tell you what the store page URL is (I'm assuming that's my actual podcast page on iTunes - is that correct?), but if you go to the Podcast section in the store and search for All About African Violets, it's the only podcast that will come up  :-)
Thank you for taking the time to help me with this. :-)
