I am unable to play a rented movie on my ATV 2. I get: An error occurred loading this content. Try again later. My ISP has the TCP 80 port blocked but the TCP 443 port open. My first gen. Apple TV  is OK.

I doubt port 80 is blocked, that port is used for http, which you might recognise as the basis for the world wide web.
The message you get can be as a result of an extremely slow Internet connection, you can test your connection speed using speednet.com, however more commonly it's a simple error that can be corrected by unplugging and restarting the Apple TV and/or restarting the router.

  • I get "An error occurred loading this content" when trying to use AirPlay with some iPhone videos

When trying to stream video via Home Sharing AirPlay from the Horse Racing Now iPhone app or TwinSpires mobile site to my new third generation Apple TV, I get the error message
An error occurred loading this content
    Try again later.
The Apple TV seems to be playing everything else fine though. And I verified that the video is working on both sites. Any idea what's happening?

  • I'm getting "an error occurred loading this content" when trying to airplay youtube from my iPhone 5.  My brother is using his iPhone 4s with no problem.  Is there something wrong with my settings?

I'm trying to airplay youtube from my iPhone 5 but I'm getting the error message.  I can airplay music, pictures, and other video, but no streaming.  My brother is using my appletv and wi-fi with his iphone 4s with no problems.  Any suggestions?

I started having this problem a week or so ago, after having used the Apple TV for a couple of months with only some minor problems.  Yesterday, however, I started getting this problem again and today I could not get to Airplay from my Ipad - just kept getting the "error occurred" message on my tv screen.  I tried the various fixes I could find on Google - at least the ones I could understand - but with no luck.  Then I decided to bite the bullet and pay for Apple support, even tho the problem is with the device and not due to my ignorance.  So I talked with a support person who said I would have to pay $19.95 for 30 days of support and was glad to take my credit card information.  This person had never heard of the problem, and ending up bumping me up to an Apple TV specialist, after spending 20 minutes or so on hold, and explaining the problem, etc.  I finally got to the specialist who had heard of this problem and said that she was crediting me for the $19.95, since the problem is due to a KNOWN HARDWARE ERROR.  In fact, she said that Apple would give me a new, replacement unit if I would go to the nearest Apple store.  This even tho I bought the unit used - it is still covered.  Now I have to make a 100 mile round trip to the Apple store, since Apple won't send the new one out in the mail, even if I return mine first.  And Apple won't pay for my gas.  So that's the mostly good and some bad news.  I hope that the new unit won't have this problem, but I think the bigger issue is that since Apple knew about the problem that affects certain serial numbers, why don't they post that information on their support sites or just make it findable by a Google search.  Whenever I have had a problem with Windows, I have always been able to find a Microsoft article or fix addressing it by doing a Google search, but Apple, always desiring to be arcane and opaque, isn't interested in this approach.  In fact, why not just put together a "known problems" site for Apple products so that users can find this kind of information easily, without having to put out $19.95 for technical support that isn't needed, and wasting their own time (and money, as in my case, for gas).  The bottom line is that all of the people with this problem who posted (and there are many) were apparently ignorant that Apple KNEW ABOUT THE PROBLEM AND WILL REPLACE THE BAD UNITS.  This is because, I am sure, they don't want to shell out the $19.95.  Anyway, hope this helps someone.  I doubt if Apple will listen to the suggestion.   Good luck..

  • Apple TV 2G "An error occurred loading this content. Try again Later"

I recently got an Apple TV 2G and also upgraded my Macbook Pro to Mountain Lion. Last night I was checking out what the apple tv can do, and found an issue. I have several movies and tv shows that are in my itunes account on my Macbook Pro. When I try and play them on the apple tv, their thumb nails come up, once you select the movie it takes to to the spinning wheel of death for about 5 minutes and the comes back with an error stating "An error occured loading this content. Try again Later." I've tried reseting it, un plugging it, restarting my computer. The funny thing is that the apple tv can see the movies and can even see the thumb nail for the image but it just wont play. I also tried to airplay and it works great. Which makes me believe its not a wifi issue or a firewall issue either. I've read a few other discussion boards about the same issue with renting movies/tv shows. But theses movies are all on my home computer, and play fine on my computer too. I also tried to see if it was a certain type, but ones that I uploaded onto my computer and purchased from the itunes store both won't work. I was also watching hulu plus and that works great, so streaming doesnt seem to be a problem. If someone could please give me a few pointers on what to do before I go crazy that would be great.

I get the same response and I rented two different movies  1st thinking that the Kings Speech was just over sold. So Rented and paid for a second movie.  So I tried something else I and get the same error message and I have been trying to get the movie to download.
I have been at this for about three hours.

    Not good!
    How about fixing this Apple?

  • "An error occurred loading this content....try again later" ERROR

I have Apple TV 3 which is connected with Wi-fi. I updated its software to the latest one and after that, I started to get "An error occurred loading this content....try again later" error sometimes. I could not find a specific situation so far. I have tried all reset/restarts solutions so far which are not solved my problem. I did not get this error before I update the Apple TV. And ideas for the reason and any ways to solve this problem?

Select the content which is causing a problem and use the 'Report a problem' button in Your Purchase History on your computer.

  • HT202157 An error occurred loading this content

Keep getting "an error occurred loading this content" when trying to access Youtube on my 2nd generation Apple tv. What gives?

I've been having the same issue and to temporarily fix it I go to Settings > General > Restart.  When it restarts the movie should play.  You have to do this for each movie for the most part.

  • Apple TV reading "An error occurred loading this content"

I have an Apple TV 3rd Generation and have been experiencing issues trying to playback purchased movies from iTunes.  Playback from Netflix works fine and I've run the Network Test option on the Apple TV and it passed.  I've already tried the following corrective steps:
    1.  Soft reset of Apple TV (holding down Menu and down arrow)
    2.  Power cycle on Apple TV
    3.  Power cycle on Wireless Router
    4.  Reset of Wireless Router
    5. Confirmed latest firmware was installed
None of the above steps worked. I either get the error message "An error occurred loading this content" or the Apple TV shows a absurdly long load time (i.e. 2 hours or greater)  I've tested the download speed of my internet connection and it's fine (about 15 mbps and streaming content from Netflix via Apple TV works)  Anyone else encounter a similar issue?  If yes, any suggestions on how to resolve.
    Thanks

What exactly is everything, have you restarted your router.

  • An error occurred loading this content when we hit play. We have been getting it for 3 days. Today I bought another rental and we are getting the same error. We have tried rebooting and also resetting. We are unable to get the movie. The Netflix is good.

An error occurred loading this content try again later. This happens when we hit play after we rented a movie. This has been going on for 3 days

I have the same problem. Cant do the software update and can't download a Rented movie.
Viewing Previews of movies and all else seem fine.

  • "An error occurred loading this content" problem for rented movies

I have an AppleTV 2 connected via Ethernet to my BT Home Hub router and HDMI to my TV. My OSX (Lion), iTunes and AppleTV software are all up to date.
Everything works fine apart from renting movies. When I rent a movie, it shows I can play it rather quickly (too quick in my mind, I thought you had to wait for a certain amount to download) so this is strange. BUT when I do go to play it it states:
"An error occurred loading this content. Please try again later"
There is no other error to inidicate the issue. If I do try later (sometimes 2 days later) I still get the error.
I tried downloading Hall Pass, The Eagle and The Adjustment Bureau, all were the same.
I can stream YouTube and Radio from the net, I can stream music, pictures and video from my iMac OK. Its only rented movies.
I contacted Apple and they basically told me there is nothing wrong with the content so sent me some standard troubleshooting links none of which help, and said to post if here. So Apple will not help any more.
This used to work fine, some months ago I rented a couple of movies OK. The only things that would have changed since then are possibly upgrading AppleTV software (I dont know if I did this after renting a movie OK), and upgrading to Lion and to iTunes latest software.
Would any of these upgrades, especially to Lion, affect AppleTV rented movies???
    Thanks

  • Can't play rented movies.  They appear to download OK and the timer accurately reports days remaining to watch.  But whenever I try to play the movie I get this message, "An error occurred loading this content.  Try again later."

Can't play rented movies.  They appear to download OK and the timer accurately reports days remaining to watch.  But whenever I try to play the movie I get this message, "An error occurred loading this content.  Try again later.". Have been using the Apple TV for 2 weeks and everything else seems to work OK.  The Apple TV reports its SW is up to date.  I've tried this with two movies rented frim iTunes directly from the Apple TV.

If after you download the movie, you navigate away and do something else with your Apple TV the content you have downloaded will be overwritten and you'll need to download it again. It's a pain in the neck for many who have slow downloads but it's something that comes with using volatile memory rather than a hard drive for storage.
Perhaps you're not doing this, but I thought it worth mentioning.

  • When starting a rental movie, I get the message: "An error occured loading this content, please try again later". Any ideas how to solve this issue?

Firstly, I should have typed speedtest.net previously.
Now that's an interesting comment you make, out of interest do you have any purchased HD movies in your iTunes collection, if so, do they play on the Apple TV with your new tv.
