  • For those of you that know me

for those of you that know me, i figured i'd drop a note here to say today's my last day at oracle. those of you that do know me probably also know that i'm very grateful to you guys what you've done. for what we've done. back in the day when this project marvel stuff (oracle platform stuff, for you really old skoolers) was new, it took a certain amount of faith to jump on board. we did. we jumped on board believing it'd work, and then we proved it. we've shown the world that this Application Express stuff not only works, but it works well. thanks guys, it's your continuing activity here on this forum and in the global community that have shown so many people how good web app development can be. please know i appreciate that from the bottom of my heart. also, now that i'm leaving the mothership, i'd like to say that the apex team is just incredible. you couldn't hope to work with a cooler or more dynamic group of people. i think you guys get a sense of that when you use the product and interact w/them on this forum, but i just wanted to confirm that now that i'm heading into the afterlife.
    somewhat choked up,
raj (soon to be [email protected])

    Hello,
I don't know Raj in person, but I read some of his articles on OTN, some of his threads on this forum, and some very kind words, written by Tom Kyte. So, I believe the Apex guys when they are saying he'll be missed.
Usually, when senior staff jumps ship, it's a good reason to start worry. In this case, it seems like Scott Spendolini is building a mini empire around Apex. As I consider these guys to be smart and skillful, their willingness to leave good and secure positions at Oracle, in favor of some new adventure, can only mean one thing – they all believe in the good and bright future of Apex, and its ability to provide for them. It seems like a good sign for people like me – user who devote a great deal of time learning how to make the best out of this tool.
I wish Raj all the best, and encourage all the others – keep on the good work.
    Regards,
    Arie.

  • For those of you who ordered your macbook online

I recently ordered a macbook from the online store, and I was wondering if any of you who ordered yours online know where apple ships their products from. I've hear a myriad of answers, from Taiwan to Shanghai to Cupertino. Thanks in advance.

I purchased my BlackBook online because I wanted it CTO (configured to order). I expected it to take longer than the spedified delivery date (two weeks) because the additional hardware (2G RAM, 120G hard drive, etc) had to be installed.
It was shipped from China and arrived via Fed Express within 5 days of the date of my order.
    Hope this helps!

  • For those of you that have had a MacBook delivered to your doorstep...

Was it shipped FedEx? (Any original/new MacBooks, not ones back from repair.) If no one is home during the day to pick it up, do they leave it at your doorstep, take it to a post office and drop it off, try to deliver it again, or what?
    Thanks.

I was expecting my Macbook to be delivered yesterday and checked on its progress midday at work. To my HORROR, Fedex's tracking stated "Left at front door. Package delivered to recipient address - release authorized"
I screamed WHAT!!!!!!???????!!!!!!!!!! I sped home (as the package had apparently been sitting outside my apartment door for 40 minutes!) And rushed to get it inside. Luckily, I got there in time.. but oh man is FedEX gonna get it!!!! I CANNOT believe they would leave such an expensive computer outside in an apartment complex!
When I clicked on "signature proof" on the tracking page, it states that NO signature was found and that "At the time of shipment, the signature was released by the shipper/recipient (indicating that no signature was required)".
At the time of Shipment??? That is SO upsetting to me! Especially because for the iPod I received a few days earlier, we were required to wait unitl 5pm to go pick it up at the FedEx facility. My computer is worth SO MUCH more! And they just left it there!
Also, I did not select the "free shipping" option from Apple... instead opting for the *more expensive* priority shipment method. This is how they repay me?
FedEx is gonna HEAR IT from me!

I think they report the lump sum limits to the bureaus on August 21st.Its not a specific date for everyone. Most of us have gotten our letters by now. and each and every post the date is different. My date Says August 10th. But appears no one really knows if the limits will be combined. or just dumped when they close the special event and club accounts we do know they will transfer to balance if you have one onto your revolver. But its all a mystery at this point even for the Csr's at Macys. The rep at Bloomingdale's told me without me asking that the limits would be merged next month. I just bought a Dyson vacuum to lock in my major purchase account. My vacuum had the motor go out so it gave me the opportunity to do this even though Costco was much cheaper.

  • For those of you using two hard drives..........

I have two hard drives, and really want to set them up properly so that logic is running on the main drive, and the secondary drive is for audio/samples etc. So for those of you that have done this, what is the best way? Specifically -
    1. For the EXS24- do BOTH the instruments and samples folder need to go on the secondary drive?
    2. If you've already been using one drive for everything, how do you re-train logic to see the exs/audio folders on the secondary drive? Is it just a matter of moving them and then redirecting logic when it can't find the files?
Your input on the best way to utilize two drives is most appreciated - what has worked for you, and what hasn't.

. For the EXS24- do BOTH the instruments and samples folder
need to go on the secondary drive?
Leave the instruments folder where it is, and put your samples folder on the external drive.
You can alias the instruments folder to whereever you want, but you don't really get any performance advantages doing so.
    2. If you've already been using one drive for everything, how do you
re-train logic to see the exs/audio folders on the secondary drive?
Two things to note - you don't need to do anything. When the EXS24 loads an instrument, if the samples are not at the location specified in the instrument, it will search for them, and when it finds them, it will write the new location back to the instrument so next time it won't have to search.
So, if you've moved your sample folders, the first time you access an instrument it will take some time to load while Logic hunts for the samples. Subsequent loads of that instrument will be as fast as ever.
Now, you can use the Project Manager (or Redmatica's EXSManager) to do this relinking for you across multiple instruments or your whole library.
In the PM, do an expanded scan. Then, select your instruments, and choose the "resolve samples" function - Logic will relink instruments with their samples and update the instrument files with the new locations. This can take some time with a big library.
    Any more questions, post back.

  • For those of you waiting...

Just an FYI for those of you that are waiting for Merom, it may not be worth it. Although the chip is 64-bit the chipset that is currently out is still only 32. The Santa Rosa chipset is due to come out in the spring which will be 64-bit. Could be why Apple isn't upgrading, they aren't in to "tricking you" like everyone else. So for those of you waiting thinking it will come out any day now, think again. The good news is that even if you don't get a 64 bit system it is going to take a long time for you so really need one since software would still have to catch up.

Bsmit007 is right about 40-bit real support in Core 2 Duo's. However, the thing is that with a pseudo 64-bit support it would be possible to run Windows XP 64-bit OS as well as 64-bit Vista. I'm sure Mac OSX is much better, but I need flexibility with running all sorts of programs. I'm currently looking for a laptop to buy, and have some doubts whether I should wait for Core 2 Duo or not. It's not about performance (which will be just 5% - 7% faster in real life apps), it's rather about the hassle I'll have at the time of the next upgrade.
My question is what chipsets current MBP's motherboards are running on and whether the CPU has a BGA or PGA Socket-M interfase?(which allows to change the CPU). For example, if it's an Intel 945GM or PM chipset, then I could buy MBP now, and in half a year time swap the CPU for Core 2 Duo along with other upgrades, such as memory, HDD and etc.
    Cheers,
    Ayrat.
    Looking for one...

  • When you back up your Iphone/Ipad it backs up for camera roll. but when you take pictures and it uses photo stream, does that mean there are two copy's of your photos on icloud one set for photo stream and one set for backups?

What do you mean by storage quota, does that mean i could be photo streaming about 1gb of photos and it does not get taken away from my free 5bg.

  • How to set the Email(i) address that you get with your iPhone 3G in Japan?

This isn't covered in the U.S. manual probably because the feature is slightly different in Japan.
Basically the issue is this - cell phones in Japan have their own "cell phone email address". I believe that's not the case in the U.S.
So when I got my iPhone 3G in Japan today from Softbank, the cell phone provider, I also got a new email address [email protected] The "i" stands for iPhone.
The question is what to do with it? Unlike other cell phone providers, this is not set up on the cell phone itself when you get it.
    Thanks,
    doug

    I figured it out.
With the iPhone you can set up multiple regular Internet email accounts directly in the Mail app, using either IMAP or POP3 and even have your existing accounts synched from your computer.
It turns out that the [email protected] email account you get with your iPhone is just another "Other" account that you set up in the mail settings. When you add your Softbank address and password it automatically sets up the server to be IMAP for checking mail and the correct SMTP server and it just appears as one more push account in your accounts list.
I'm not sure it is really useful for anything or not, but since a lot of people want to know "what is your cell phone address" I guess it is best to set it and have one rather than explain why you don't really need a separate cell phone address for your iPhone.
It's sort of interesting. And it is actually an improvement over traditional Japanese cell phone email I think. And you can see nice HTML mail to boot.
Anyway, I hope this helps anybody else who doesn't know what to do with their extra Softbank address that comes with their iPhone 3G.

  • Have you had high cc usage for a planned expense that lowered your FICO scores?

In a week or so I am initiating some home improvements and repairs. I know the charges to my cc will be way over the ideal limit until I pay it(them) down, but I now have zero interest on several cards so now is the time to do it. Has someone done this and seen their credit scores sink to the bottom of the barrel? I am thinking I should just not look at scores while I am doing these necessary things and just continue paying down the balances until my credit scores recover. How badly did your credit take a hit if you have done this? Was it worth it to you? (I only just got these scores in the last weeks due to utilization and new accounts.) Oh, and what is considered 100% usage? How close to the limit can I go? Thank you for any responses. In my wallet: Venture 15k; Barclay Ring 12.5k; Discover 10k; CareCredit 7.7k; Amazon Store Card 5k. Utilization is balance/limit.  If the balance equals the limit it's 100%. Musiclover wrote:
How close to the limit can I go?Depending on the card you may be able to exceed the limit.  However, such cards would require that you immediately pay any balance exceeding the limit.  For scoring purposes it is recommended to not exceed 30%.  However, short term high utilization generally isn't an issue.  It's prolonged high utilization that can get you into trouble.  Be aware that there is a double hit from having high utilization on a card and having itmaxed out (generally >90%). Musiclover wrote:
