For those of you that know me

for those of you that know me, i figured i'd drop a note here to say today's my last day at oracle. those of you that do know me probably also know that i'm very grateful to you guys what you've done. for what we've done. back in the day when this project marvel stuff (oracle platform stuff, for you really old skoolers) was new, it took a certain amount of faith to jump on board. we did. we jumped on board believing it'd work, and then we proved it. we've shown the world that this Application Express stuff not only works, but it works well. thanks guys, it's your continuing activity here on this forum and in the global community that have shown so many people how good web app development can be. please know i appreciate that from the bottom of my heart. also, now that i'm leaving the mothership, i'd like to say that the apex team is just incredible. you couldn't hope to work with a cooler or more dynamic group of people. i think you guys get a sense of that when you use the product and interact w/them on this forum, but i just wanted to confirm that now that i'm heading into the afterlife.
somewhat choked up,
raj (soon to be [email protected])

Hello,
I don't know Raj in person, but I read some of his articles on OTN, some of his threads on this forum, and some very kind words, written by Tom Kyte. So, I believe the Apex guys when they are saying he'll be missed.
Usually, when senior staff jumps ship, it's a good reason to start worry. In this case, it seems like Scott Spendolini is building a mini empire around Apex. As I consider these guys to be smart and skillful, their willingness to leave good and secure positions at Oracle, in favor of some new adventure, can only mean one thing – they all believe in the good and bright future of Apex, and its ability to provide for them. It seems like a good sign for people like me – user who devote a great deal of time learning how to make the best out of this tool.
I wish Raj all the best, and encourage all the others – keep on the good work.
Regards,
Arie.

But its all a mystery at this point even for the Csr's at Macys. The rep at Bloomingdale's told me without me asking that the limits would be merged next month. • For those of you that have had a MacBook delivered to your doorstep...

Was it shipped FedEx? (Any original/new MacBooks, not ones back from repair.) If no one is home during the day to pick it up, do they leave it at your doorstep, take it to a post office and drop it off, try to deliver it again, or what?
    Thanks.

I was expecting my Macbook to be delivered yesterday and checked on its progress midday at work. To my HORROR, Fedex's tracking stated "Left at front door. Package delivered to recipient address - release authorized"
I screamed WHAT!!!!!!???????!!!!!!!!!! I sped home (as the package had apparently been sitting outside my apartment door for 40 minutes!) And rushed to get it inside. Luckily, I got there in time.. but oh man is FedEX gonna get it!!!! I CANNOT believe they would leave such an expensive computer outside in an apartment complex!
When I clicked on "signature proof" on the tracking page, it states that NO signature was found and that "At the time of shipment, the signature was released by the shipper/recipient (indicating that no signature was required)".
At the time of Shipment??? That is SO upsetting to me! Especially because for the iPod I received a few days earlier, we were required to wait unitl 5pm to go pick it up at the FedEx facility. My computer is worth SO MUCH more! And they just left it there!
Also, I did not select the "free shipping" option from Apple... instead opting for the *more expensive* priority shipment method. This is how they repay me?
FedEx is gonna HEAR IT from me!

  • For those of you waiting...

Just an FYI for those of you that are waiting for Merom, it may not be worth it. Although the chip is 64-bit the chipset that is currently out is still only 32. The Santa Rosa chipset is due to come out in the spring which will be 64-bit. Could be why Apple isn't upgrading, they aren't in to "tricking you" like everyone else. So for those of you waiting thinking it will come out any day now, think again. The good news is that even if you don't get a 64 bit system it is going to take a long time for you so really need one since software would still have to catch up.

Bsmit007 is right about 40-bit real support in Core 2 Duo's. However, the thing is that with a pseudo 64-bit support it would be possible to run Windows XP 64-bit OS as well as 64-bit Vista. I'm sure Mac OSX is much better, but I need flexibility with running all sorts of programs. I'm currently looking for a laptop to buy, and have some doubts whether I should wait for Core 2 Duo or not. It's not about performance (which will be just 5% - 7% faster in real life apps), it's rather about the hassle I'll have at the time of the next upgrade.
My question is what chipsets current MBP's motherboards are running on and whether the CPU has a BGA or PGA Socket-M interfase?(which allows to change the CPU). For example, if it's an Intel 945GM or PM chipset, then I could buy MBP now, and in half a year time swap the CPU for Core 2 Duo along with other upgrades, such as memory, HDD and etc.
    Cheers,
    Ayrat.

  • For those of you using two hard drives..........

I have two hard drives, and really want to set them up properly so that logic is running on the main drive, and the secondary drive is for audio/samples etc. So for those of you that have done this, what is the best way? Specifically -
    1. For the EXS24- do BOTH the instruments and samples folder need to go on the secondary drive?
    2. If you've already been using one drive for everything, how do you re-train logic to see the exs/audio folders on the secondary drive? Is it just a matter of moving them and then redirecting logic when it can't find the files?
Your input on the best way to utilize two drives is most appreciated - what has worked for you, and what hasn't.

. For the EXS24- do BOTH the instruments and samples folder
need to go on the secondary drive?
Leave the instruments folder where it is, and put your samples folder on the external drive.
You can alias the instruments folder to whereever you want, but you don't really get any performance advantages doing so.
    2. If you've already been using one drive for everything, how do you
re-train logic to see the exs/audio folders on the secondary drive?
Two things to note - you don't need to do anything. When the EXS24 loads an instrument, if the samples are not at the location specified in the instrument, it will search for them, and when it finds them, it will write the new location back to the instrument so next time it won't have to search.
So, if you've moved your sample folders, the first time you access an instrument it will take some time to load while Logic hunts for the samples. Subsequent loads of that instrument will be as fast as ever.
Now, you can use the Project Manager (or Redmatica's EXSManager) to do this relinking for you across multiple instruments or your whole library.
In the PM, do an expanded scan. Then, select your instruments, and choose the "resolve samples" function - Logic will relink instruments with their samples and update the instrument files with the new locations. This can take some time with a big library.
    Any more questions, post back.

  • Does anyone know if it is possible to change the display in week view to show 24 hours per day for those of us that work irregular hours

Does anyone know if it is possible to change the display in week view to show all 24 hours per day for those of us that work irregular hours.
Also is it possible to have all of the 'all day' entries showing, not just 3.5 of them.
The app Week Cal HD was the perfect calendar until Apple removed it so could they please offer the same facilities that it offered.

I am writting this to ask Why there is not been a release of a 64 bit version of flash for those of us that prefer to use the 64 bit browsers. I run Windows 7 Ultimate 64 bit and like using the 64 bit browsers as they run a lot smoother on my system. I am very disappointed that I am unable to get a flash player is 64 bit compatable. I know I am but one person, but I hope that others that also prefer to use the 64bit browsers would also post here voicing their desire to se a 64 bit version of Flash released

  • For those of you who have the "Perfect Timing" ringtone from the commercial

I posted this in the plain 'ol phone forum but haven't got a response yet. I hope I get one here.
For those of you who have the ringtone from the iPhone TV commercial -- do you remember what portion of the song (or can you check in iTunes) you used for the actual ringtone? If you could tell me the counter (in seconds and minutes) that you started and ended your tone at, that would be great. I'm trying to get it exactly like the commerical but I don't think I have it just right. Thanks! By the way the song is called "Perfect Timing."

...and you're surprised that you had installation issues with iTunes?  This makes me wonder whether others who report problems installing iTunes have computers that are equally infected!  For reference, I just checked the logs from the last Malwarebytes scan (I run an automated scan twice a week) on my main iTunes system (on which, like the other iTunes instances I run, never seems to suffer from any installation issues) - zero issues

If you grew up learning how to solder on Heathkits (like I did), They are coming back!
Watch the Heathkit web page for information.
Also - if you click on the FAQ link, you can find a link to their survey so you can tell them what kits you would like to see.
Let's see now... What to build first...

I think you are much too young to have ever built a Heathkit.  Nearly every one of their assemby manuals included step by step instructions on how to solder. If I recall correctly they even produced a little brochure containing only those instructions.  They were the best instructions I have ever seen on how to solder.  I think they omitted steps 2 and 4.  They did have some good pictures of the results of steps 3 and 6 under "Bad solder joints."
In 1947, Heath introduced its first electronic kit, the O1 oscilloscope that sold for US$50
Yep, that was a bit before my time I was born in the late 80's, didn't touch my first soldering iron until probably 2008!

  • For those of you having intermittent connection to the internet

If you have a linksys router and having intermittent connection to the internet, here's how.
Be sure to have a LAN cable plug into your router and macbook.
(This is very important if you do not want to get disconnected from the router)
    1) Navigate to http://192.168.1.1
    2) Go to the Wireless tab, under the Advance Wireless Settings tab, change the beacon interval to 50, RTS to 2304 and Fragmention to 2305, save the settings.
    3) When you login into your router page, it first direct you to the setup page, look under MTU, set it to 1300. save it.
Note that if you are still having intermittent connection to the internet, another alternative is setting your MTU to 1365.
That's it, 3 easy steps to get you freed from the frustration.
Cheers for all those having the same problem like me solved.

    Hi,
I dunno if this will help any of you, but here it comes:
I purchased the Airport 'N' enabler just a week before I upgraded to OSX 10.4.10. And - of course - after the OS update I had the similar issue with dropping Wifi connections and very slow speed, although (*Touch Wood*) I didn't have any Kernel Panics.
After updating to OS 10.4.10, System Profiler and Network Utility showed that I had the 'n' enabled, but the speed and (lack of) stability of the Wifi connection can only be described as 'Hair-ripping'.
Anyway, after reading through all the threads/topics of all you poor sods with similar problems and utilising somewhat 'hairy' workarounds with varying results, I realized that nobody acually tried to re-install the 'N'-enabler again; at least as far as I recall..
So, I simply installed the 'N'-enabler again AFTER updating to 10.4.10 !!! I was kind of expecting the installer to prompt me, saying that "this computer already has Airport Extreme 'N'-enabler installed" blah-blah.., but it didn't.
And now I have a very stable connection and MUCH faster download speeds as well !
So those of you who hasn't tried this yet, please do. It might work for you as well ... !!
    Just me 2 cents

  • For those of you who cannot afford a proper video editing system...

...don't buy any prosumer video editing program (including Premiere Pro CS5.5). Here's why:
Last night, I ran the PPBM5 test on an Intel i3-2100 system with 4GB of DDR3-1333 RAM, a 500GB OS drive and a 1TB project drive (both drives are 7200 RPM) and integrated (onboard) Intel HD Graphics 2000. (This is the kind of system that one might buy for the purpose of Interner surfing and some limited gaming.) I have just submitted the results to the PPBM5 site.
    The result?
With a total time of 976 seconds, that system is around 20 times slower than a fast i7 system (although it was marginally faster than the other systems with dual-core CPUs on the PPBM5 results list). That i3-2100 system also proved that no system with a dual-core CPU performed as fast as a system with even a mediocre-performing quad-core CPU.
In other words, at the lower end, you get what you pay for. This post and thread is to inform how senseless it is to cheap out on the components when building a video editing build.

If you absolutely can't afford the "fully ready" cost of...
    16GB DDR3-1333 RAM: $120
    4 x 1TB 7200 RPM SATA hard drives: $240
320GB or 500GB 7200 RPM SATA hard drive (for OS): $45
    You could START with...
    8GB DDR3-1333 RAM (2x4Gig)
    2 x 1TB 7200 RPM SATA hard drives
320GB or 500GB 7200 RPM SATA hard drive (for OS)
And then add Ram and/or hard drives as need and $$ is available
The computer I built a bit over a year ago is described at http://forums.adobe.com/thread/652694?tstart=0
My 3 hard drives are configured as... (WD = Western Digital)
    1 - 320G WD Win7 64bit Pro and all program installs
2 - 320G WD Win7 swap file and video project files
3 - 1T WD all video files... input & output files
Search Microsoft to find out how to redirect your Windows swap file

For home hobbyist editing of AVCHD my computer does very well... for me

  • For those of you with a Windows computer and the iOS device is not syncing or showing up in iTunes. here is a known solution that has been working for tech support!

I know this seems to be an emerging issue ever since the update to iTunes 11.1.4, some iPhones or other iOS devices are not showing up in iTunes or syncing. I'm not sure if Apple really knowns of this issue, but tech support has a (mostly) sure fire way of resolcing this issue. It's only for Windows computers though.
Go to the article http://support.apple.com/kb/ts1538 and follow the Section 5 Verify Apple Mobile Device USB driver is installed. When you clik on that section, go to your version of Windows (it seems to be happening mostly across Windows 8) . And then to the section: If Apple iPod, Aple iPhone, or Apple iPad is listed.
The gist of what you need to do:
Windows 8 (since it seems to be the most affected) move your cursor to the upper ight corner of your screen) and click on the Magnifying glass. Type in devmgmt.msc and this should bring up the Device Manager. Onc eyou are in the device manager, look for the "Portable device" or "Universial Serial bus Controller" list, and you should see the "Apple iPhone/iPad/iPod" listed. Onc eyou see it, right click it, choose "Update software driver." Now, IT WILL SAY THE DRIVER IS UPDATED. I CANNOT STRESS THIS ENOUGH. Select "Browse my computer for driver software." Onc eyou choose that, select "Let me pick from a lsit of drivers on my computer." You should see the option "Have Disk." Choose that. Again, I KNOW you do not have a physical disk, but the file we need is already on your computer. After Hard Disk, choose Browse again. Follow this file path to the file we need: C:\Program Files\Common Files\Apple\Mobile Device Support\Drivers.. In the Driver's folder, you should see the "usbaaple" or "usbappl64" (if you have the 64 bit for Windows). Double click on that file, and hit OK. The file should install, and once it's finished check your iTunes!!! You may want to unplug your device and plug it back it before doing all of this. I REALLY hope this works for you all as well!

How can I change my file extension from m4p to something else? I have had no success being able to play or burn my purchased music. I keep getting error 2122. If I can change the format I should be able to move it to another player or at least burn it in Nero. Thanks.

I would liked to know especially people from the east cost and better yet from connecticut.
Mine is scheduled for tomorrow by 3 pm.
I want to know if I should skip school or not.

Mine got here around 12, but I wasn't home. I left a note on the door that said:
"Dear Fed-Ex, if no one is home to answer the door, please leave the package with tracking number XXXXXXXXXXX in the mail box or on the porch.  Thank you. " and signed it.
He took the note with him I guess because it wasn't on my door anymore when I got home, and my phone was on the porch
