  • A SOLUTION for those who want to organise their TV SHOWS properly!

    Hi folks;
I posted this in "Using iTunes for Windows" as well.
Finally found a simple, and yes, EASY way to get your self-burned TV shows (from your DVD collection) into iTunes WITH the proper info(ie: season, show, title, description, network, etc...)
A simple program called "TV TAGGER".
Basically, it's a GUI for Atomic Parsley so you don't have to learn another language to do this stuff. It's got all the spaces for you to fill in the show info you want.
It only works for TV SHOWS though...
    Here's the link:
    http://69.117.40.60:3000/atomicgui/
Basically, all you have to do is open TVTagger, go to 'file' and open all the episodes for the show you want to classify and fill in the blanks for each episode. Once you're done, either hit 'apply' under 'tab' OR, (to make it faster), hit 'apply all' under 'file'. It will make a new copy of the TV Show in the same folder as the original with a slightly different title (adds some stuff). Delete the original and you've got TV Shows with the proper tags.
Then open iTunes, remove all the TV Shows from it (NOT deleting the original files) and re-open the TV Shows. This time, the shows will be classified in the TV SHOWS tab and will show the season and all that jazz.
I know, it sounds bigger than I meant it to, but it's really easy...
    Good luck!

you could ask your school for premissions to see
everyones grades, or for premissions to hack the
system... if those are granted, then ok, do it. but if
    not then:

Thanks VasKoL for this link, it was a fun little diversion. I was able to complete all of the operational levels (it appears that the last several levels are not in service...).

  • IPod Info for those who need it

Just thought I'd give some help to those who need it.
    - For those who are having trouble with their ipods accepting some videos and not others, try shortening the names of the video files. As long as the video files are in the proper format, this should clear up that issue.
    - For those who want to get the songs off of your ipod without having to worry about the iTunes one-way syncing issue the following programs will help you with that:
    PodPlus
    iPod Agent
    - For those who are just curious, here are the size incriments for data:
    Bit
    Byte
    Kilobyte
    Megabyte
    Gigabyte
    Terabyte
    Pentabyte
I've got the 5th gen iPod and after a little finessing, I think I've got it all pretty much figured out. So, if anyone has questions, gimme a shout. Or maybe you've got some cool ideas I can use!
    5th Gen Windows XP Pro
      Windows XP Pro

What is an ideal average setting for my homemade iMovies?
Settings for your iMovie for what? If your are talking about conversion to an iPod compatible format, which format? Are you more concerned with quality or quantity?
First, what's the best, fastest and easiest way to convert these iMovies to the H.264 (is that done through iMovie or QT Pro or both) and what other settings (audio for one) should I be using besides the standard 30 fps ?
Your are using the same QT tools whether you convert directly from iMovie or indirectly via QT Pro using a reference file. (I.e., the only time you save is the time it takes to write the reference file itself.)
Define what you mean by best.
The "Movie to iPod (320x240)" option is the fastest in terms of programming your conversion but the slowest in terms of time it take for processing. The "Movie to MPEG4" option is slower/harder to program for a single pass H.264 encode, but takes half the time to process as the dedicated H.264 option. MPEG4 video options (single pass and 2-pass modes) are faster than H.264 codec. Audio options are the same for both H.264 and MPEG4 formats -- AAC LC. I personally would stick with the 44.1 kbps sampling rate and 128 kbps data rate for audio but you could take it up to 48 kbps at 160 kbps if you want. As to frame rate, I would stick with the current (original) setting of your source. 30 (29.97) fps provides the smoothest flow of motion. You could, of course, try 24 or even 15 fps in some cases to see if it is acceptable. Dropping below 12 fps would probably be unacceptable to most people. But you're the producer and director here, so you have to make up your own mind.

  • Tool icons, navigation, elements need to be larger for those that want it

I have read through many forums from May 2012 right up through the current ones about this issue. There are a lot of Photoshop users who are complaining about the size of tool icons and other elements as being way too small. Then there are others who defend the size of Photoshop and some who say the icons haven't really changed. Finally, there are some who say Adobe will not do anything about this.
Let me offer a perspective as a 15 year user of Photoshop and other Adobe products. Under the earlier versions of CS, Photoshop would follow the Windows sizing instructions inputed by the user. So if we wanted everything to be large and 150% of normal size, Photoshop would follow those instructions regardless of the monitors resolution. In CC especially, it appears Adobe has abandoned any connection in its software to what the user has defined in Windows about sizing. This isn't so much about the actual size as defined in Adobe's code but how those sizes vary or don't vary based on Windows settings.
This is no minor matter. We are now working on a high resoltuion, 23" Apple Cinema Monitor at top resolution. We do that to get maximam clarity. At the same time, we know that we cannot possibly use any software that looks as small as it would in that resoltuion without adjustment. So we turn around and crank Windows up to maximum oversize in every setting that exist. The result is that desktop icons show at the size we want and other major software also shows at the size we want. The best example is Cubase which is a professional digital audio workstation. Cubase is to muisic what Photoshop is to images. Both highly professional tools. The difference is that even in high resolution, Cubase defers to the Windows sizing. All the icons, menus, navigation bar, track workspace and more are very large just like the icons on our desktop.
This means that we know it is possible and not difficult for all software to follow the Windows settings inspite of the native resolutlion. So far Adobe has chosen not to do this. Below is a screen shot of PS CC on our monitor (actually 2 monitors with Apple Cinema on the left where PS is). Unlike all the screen shots that have been shown by others during the last 18 months, we made sure that our desktop icons could be clearly seen as well. Notice the size difference between PS icons, navigation and elements versus our desktop icons. Cubase looks like our desktop icons. So why can't PS?
It is our recommendation that Adobe do the following immediately. You can't ignore 18 months or more of complaints from a large number of users without addressing the problem. The world has gone to high resolution monitors but for many of us, we need the size of software to be larger than the native resolution we are using. It's not a matter of dropping the resolution. That is not desirable and not necessary based on our actual experience. That produces other types of problems with lack of clarity that don't work. Try to select a single strand of a sound wave when there are one hundred a second in low resolution. We need the resolution but we also need the software to show larger for those that want it. For those that don't, you may be happy but why should everyone else be unhappy or unable to use the new software.
    1. Provide a yes/no option to allow Adobe CC to follow the Windows sizing settings inspite of monitor resolution. Those that don't want to do this can leave it no. Those that want it can turn it on and make the entire program look bigger.
    2. Provide internal CC settings to increase the size of any and all visual workspace elements and tools on a percentage basis for maximum flexibility. There may be good reasons why some people don't want to change their Windows sizing but do want to increase the visual size of CC programs.
Frankly, this is not rocket science and I'm amazed Adobe didn't jump on solutions after the 2012 forum discussions. To hear from people that nothing is gong to be done is scary for the user and should be scary for Adobe since it could result in losing customers and sales. Let's make this program work for all users on all resolution monitors in the way they need it to work. Other major software companies have done this. Why is Adobe the odd company out on this.

Thanks for your thoughtful answer. I do appreciate the issues here.
I'm aware of the problems in how applications work in an OS when that OS keeps changing (too much?!). Yes, this could be very consuming from a resource perspective and could take some time.
That's why my second recommendation addresses this problem without having to worry about the OS. It is not a huge resource or time issue for Adobe to provide internal sizing controls for all aspects of its software that have nothing to do with the OS or the resolution of monitor. We've had that sizing control for how big the file we are working with shows on the screen since Photoshop 1.0. I am aware of applications that added such sizing controls over 10 years ago and one of them over 15 years ago. This isn't new.
So let's put aside the disucssion about the OS and just focus on a way to define how big the entire PS program shows including all tools, elements and navigation on a percentage basis. Just an addition to the internal Preferences of the program itself. If I want PS to show at 200% or 300% of it's standard size, let me do it
The time and resources to add this to the program are not huge. Further, since this issue has been discussed for a long time, it should have been much higher on the priority list. If I was running product development, I would have made this a mandatory part of the introduction of CC. The number of complaints are simply too high to ignore this or say that it's going to take time. That tells me it's not a high enough priority on the development list.
Let's remember that for every person who does complain on these forums, there are a hundred or more that don't but are experiencing the same thing. The small size of PS tools, icons, elements and text is simply unacceptable to too many users for it to have gone on unaddressed this long.

  • Some dvi questions for those who really know there stuff!

Hi all, haven't lurked these forums in a few weeks but just had a quick question for those who wanna build up some "points". I'm trying to connect my MBP 15" (1.83ghz) to my Dell LCD 26" T.V. via DVI. Anyhoo, the DVI port on an MBP is a DVI-I (Dual link 24 + 5 pin) fenmale port while my Dell LCD sports a DVI-D (Dual link 24 + 1 pin) female port. Anyhoo, I went to my local Circuit City store and picked up a 6.6ft DVI-D (Single link 18 + 1 pin) male cable to hook both devices up. Should this work? If those have no idea what I'm talking about, I've included a link with a picture of allt he different DVI ports:
    http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/thumb/5/59/Dvitypes.png/180px-Dvitypes.png
If I haven't explained myself well, please post and I'll do my best to clarify.

Am I missing something? Do you actually have a problem making this work? If the plugs you chose are mechanically compatible (and both are DVI D, dual-link), then there should not be a problem.
Ah. I see the concern. The extra four pins. I believe they make the connector able to supply hybrid DVI-A and DVI-D. The Mac output is hybrid so it can easily be adapted drive a VGA monitor, too.
I think you should be fine.
I have a ViewSonic 1600x1200 LCD monitor with a DVI (single) and it works superbly with the Mac.

For Those Who Can't Boot After Upgrading To 10.5.6
(and i am one of those)
how is Apple supposed to make them able to install future fixes and updates
once they finally acknowledge and address this horrible bug?
will they send free bootable CDs with the updates to 10.5.6?

What "Boot ROM version" do you have (check in the system profiler under "Hardware")? If it's not MBP31.0070.B07 or MBP21.00A5.B08, then you will need to update your MacBook Pro's firmware. To do this, you might need to connect an external display and mouse/keyboard, and then run the computer with the lid closed to bypass the laptop's monitor. Then apply the firmware patch and reboot the system. This might also be doable via "Screen Sharing" if you have that enabled and have another mac handy.
The firmware update is here: http://www.apple.com/downloads/macosx/apple/firmware_hardware/macbookproefifirmw areupdate151.html

  • Future Music good for those who have not yet learned all

Future Music Magazine, which I get on the magazine rack at my WalMart, has some good stuff in November-December issues for those who need to learn more. I am talking about a two-part article, "The A to Z of digital music". or something like that. A through M is covered in the November issue. N through Z is planned for December. Topics A-Z are explained in a paragraph or more. EQ is covered for example. November also has a tutorial sort of thing on Reverb.
Future Music has not always been so helpful. I did not find much in the October issue akin to what I have mentioned above.
I think these two issues of Future Music will be quite helpful to me and perhaps to others among us also.

Correction. Various topics, beginning with A through Z, are EACH explained in a paragraph or more. Sometimes there is a little essay on a topic. Good for newbies and sometimes good for non-newbies who must do not know it all yet.

    SOLUTION:
    Iam pointing t0 windows7 os.
    1) go to control panel
    2) open hardware and sound
    3) In that open Devices and printers
4)In that u can find Apple Iphone.
    5) now right click on this --> Hardware --> Properties --> General --> Uninstall --> ok.
    6) now unplug and plug in ur iphone again. There u go u iphone name changes to its original name.

I am having this problem.  At first with the new iPhone 5, and then with the iPad 2.  I am not sure why this is happening.
My gut feeling is this is an iO6 issue and here's why -
The problem mainly occurs with apps.  I have about 150 apps, and when I plugged in the phone, iTunes went to sync all of them.  The process would hang up after about 20 - 30 apps were loaded onto the phone. I could tell where about the process hung up because the apps on the phone showed up as "waiting".
Then on the iPad 2 I plugged in to sync and saw there was a huge "Other" component in my storage.  It required me to restore the iPad 2 from backup.  With this restore the same issues occurred - putting the apps back on the iPad would hang up.  The videos on the iPad also got stuck - maybe after about 10 hours of videos transfered iTunes crashed.
My solution has been to soft reset the device, restart Windows, and continue the process until it's complete.  This is remarkably inefficient and time-intensive but everything works with patience.
I have been wondering if others have had these same problems.

  • This is for people who wants to mirror all they apple devices when they travel.

this is for people who wants to mirror all they apple devices when they travel and don't want to unplug everything from the apple tv and take it with them, you can get the amazon fire tv stick and download an app called airplay upnp or the reflector app and mirror all of your apple devices to it, it is great for traveling easy to setup and move around, for example if your traveling and want to use it in the conference room and then want to take with you back to the hotel for the night and plug it in and keep on doing that routine.
it will be great to use hopeful until apple comes out apple with their own apple tv stick

The Verizon DVR is admittedly not the sharpest box on the market. I admit to giving up on the multi-room DVR product, it just never worked satisfactorily for me.
Hopefully features/functions issues  will improve in the near term with the Cisco/Scientific Atlanta box that obviously isn't going to make Q1. I admit I have ceased  holding my breath. Something does have to happen fairly soon because 160gb drives are literally going out of production.
You do however make two statements that incorrect. Current TiVO's only need 1 cable card, since the standard cable card today in Verizon's stock  is the M-Card. You also have the option with TiVO of paying either an annual fee, or a one time fee, both of which are lower in the long term than the month to month fee. Alternatively you can by the Moxi DVR, and it includes lifetime service in the purchase price.
While in theory a truck roll costs $79, in practice if it is for a Cable Card install, it is free (I think  FCC regulations preclude the charge).
Apparently there is nothing in Verizon's order processing system that tells reps that there is no charge for Cable Card installations, so they often quote the $79 fee because that is the standard charge for technician to come out. As far as I can tell (and there have been lots of posts about cable card installs), no one has in fact been charged the $79 fee..

  • Important News For Those Who Use Hulu And Other Flash Video Websites.

Adobe will release the next update to the Adobe Flash software in the next few weeks and that update will bring better GPU video decoding acceleration for Windows if you have recent graphics hardware from ATI, Nvidia, or Intel. This update is VERY important for those who use laptops which have less powerful processors and hardware than desktops usually do. In order to take advantage of this update when it comes out, you MUST have the latest graphics cards drivers for your hardware. ATI, Nvidia, and Intel will all be releasing new drivers  specifically for the updated Flash software so keep an eye on the respective websites for your graphics hardware maker. Of those companies, only Intel and Nvidia have drivers available for testing at the moment, but ATI is not far behind.

You may be able to disable Flash entirely and just use HTML 5 video codecs to view the videos this is faster but you may lose access to some videos such as ones that have mandatory advertisements.

I foolishly downloaded OS8 on my iPhone 4S. It not only greyed out my wifi button making it impossiblr to use wifi, but bluetooth connection doesn't work either. I reset the phone to factory settings but that did nothing apart from loose all my photos and contacts. OS 8 was still on after too. Apple say it is a problem but the download only brought the fact the hardware was faulty to the fore, but not being under warranty , the repair would cost £166 that I would have to pay. Totally unacceptable. If the problem was known and they knew it would cause problems on older models, why have it bob up on iTUNES for download.
Don;t download it guys, APPLE aren't admitting culpability and it will cost you a fortune to put right!!

  • Lay-out tip(s) for those who dislike FF29 and want a classic (minimal) lay out

Okay, I really really dislike the FF 29 layout and use of it. For me it makes no sense at all and find it also butt ugly. So did some searching and experimenting and thought I shared my finding so maybe others with the same opinion/feelings can benefit also.<br>
There is the option for the Classic Theme Restorer but for me that is an add on that is way too complex for a simple task. So, not for me.<br><br>
Here are the add-ons that make FF look old school with normal back- and forward button, a normal download window, add on bar and so on. Warning though: it is a minimalistic look. All the fancy non-productive nonsense and so on are gone. I use all this with FF 29 now and works (and looks) great.<br><br>
    1) LittleFox . This add-on makes everything "smaller". But as a kind of bonus it also gets the round buttons, tabs and so on out of the way. Info and download: <s>https://addons.mozilla.org/firefox/addon/littlefox-for-firefox/</s><br /> https://addons.mozilla.org/firefox/addon/littlefox-for-firefox/ <br><br>
    2) Addon Bar. A simple addon that adds the add-on bar, no need to restart FF. Info and download on <s>https://addons.mozilla.org/firefox/addon/the-addon-bar/ </s><br /> https://addons.mozilla.org/firefox/addon/the-addon-bar/ <br><br>
    3) Backward and forward arrows: really great add-on that brings back the normal backward and forward option. Info and downlopad on <s>https://addons.mozilla.org/firefox/addon/backforward-dropmarker/ </s> <br /> https://addons.mozilla.org/firefox/addon/backforward-dropmarker/ <br><br>
    4) Normal download window. I am very happy with this add on: the normal, down to earth and logical download manager. With download speed visible and so on. Info and download: <s> https://addons.mozilla.org/firefox/addon/downloads-window/ <br /> </s>https://addons.mozilla.org/firefox/addon/downloads-window/ <br><br>
And that's it. Only four add ons to get FF back to it's great and logical layout it once had. If it is too minimal in your taste, I advise to not use the LittleFox add-on.
    Edit.
I hope you do not mind, I have taken the liberty of editing the links so that they are capable of redirecting to other locales. So I removed the Dutch ''nl/''

It looks like Google agents torpedoed Opera 10-11, causing them to make stupid "improvements" and not listen to users' feedback. Opera died. And now they have FF.
Here's what Mozilla dev's say (and my comments):
    > Mozilla felt it was necessary to create a user interface that was the same for both mobile and desktop versions of Firefox.
    How did it feel THAT?
My desktop will suddenly turn into a mobile???
Am I Harry Potter or who?
    > We came up with this new look after thorough testing, user interviews and usability studies for over four years.
If the result is BS, then probably something's wrong with that testing... or testers.
    > The idea is that you put the icons/ buttons you want to see all the time on the top toolbar.
Totally wrong idea. First, I never want to see ANYTHING "all the time". (Do you? Really? o_O)
Second, if I want to see buttons, I want to see almost all of them on the bottom toolbar!
    Or wherever I put them.
Don't you, with all your "researches", realize that clever users ALREADY customized all that they wanted?
So don't BS us saying that it's "in our interests".
Just admit that you made a stupid thing, and correct it, before it's too late.
Or you do only what Google tells you, because they pay?
...You say we don't understand you developers.
    Oh, that's for sure!
But YOU should understand us, users, that's what matters.
    > The fact that you're looking down all the time to find something that is not there anymore is called muscle memory and it will take a bit of time to get used to the new situation.
Exactly! If you want to kill some time, do that with your life, not mine.
I'm not so young as you boys AND I JUST DON'T WANT to lose days and days to revert the interface or to learn how to use BS instead.
I'm still unable to work in new Windows, XP has last acceptable Start panel for me.
    > You didn't hear or see any of us say 'GET USED TO IT', only 'please, give it a try first'.
And if I don't want to?
I'm just tired of "giving a try" to every of your stupid "innovation".
You never make them optional, do you?
Why don't I, writer, invent a new ABC every few months?
Why don't you learn new ABC's again & again, if your life is too dull?
Don't make my life more "interesting", I don't need that.
    > ...You didn't hear or see any of us say 'GET USED TO IT'
    > The web evolves and so do we.
In other words, GET USED TO IT.
(That's the worst kind of demagogy I ever heard.
    Evolution is improvement, not degradation.
Justifying degradation by evolution means you think we are idiots.
    Thanx, very much).
    > Additionally, we only have a relatively small team of engineers working on Firefox; much of our progress depends on the work of volunteers!
Don't tell me that you don't want to code twice: all the code for the old interface is already done.
What you should do is make it faster and less memory eating. (But not at a cost that torpedoed Opera).
So save you time and save us time. Leave the UI alone, and make your "improvements" as add-ons.
Otherwise that once-great browser is just dying, too.
