Force Black and White default on printer queue?

Am I missing something easy or is it really this hard to force B&W to be the default when printing? I'm able to do this on the Windows 2003 server using the same Konica printer, but when I go to my SL Server I look all over in the queue and driver and can't find anything to force B&W as the default option.
Would appreciate any insight anyone has on this. If you need more info let me know.
Thanks

In the Print dialog, select the Color Matching tab and then select Vendor Matching.

  • HP6500A printer prints only black and white, won't print color documents. Product No CN555A.

    Hi CharlesMull:
Your question would be better answered in the printer section of the forum. This section is for Touchsmart computers. So can you post it over there. HP moderator has not yet moved it. I am sure your printer has trouble shooter on it but I do not know how to excess it. I always have to use Direct Support.  Would be under the tool section on printer control screen. It is not done through the through the computer that I do know.

  • How do I undo black and white default in photoshop?

Whenever I place a colored photo into photoshop it automatically is placed as a black and white photo by default.  I don't want this to happen.  How do I fix this?

You have to be sure the file you are placing it into is rgb mode and not grayscale.
If you File > Place a color photo into a grayscale document, it will turn grayscale.
So before you do that, go to Image mode in Photoshop and select RGB.

  • Photoshop Black and White profile for printing

I'm a black and white photographer, so this issue is extremely important for me to resolve. I've been looking online and I have yet to find the answer, so I hope someone can help.
I need to know how to set up the black and White profiles in Photoshop for printing. The printer I have is a canon Pixma Pro 9000 a mark II
I need true black and white. Thank you in advance for any help or suggestions. If you need me to provide additional information let me know.

I frequently print black & white work on an Epson, using the Advanced black & white feature in the print driver.
A quick internet search found that there is something similar for Canon -  Canon : PIXMA Manuals : Digital Photo Printing Guide : Black and White Printing
I print scanned grayscale files, and have the grayscale profile in PS set to Gamma 2.2.
If you are printing digital photos, they will be RGB, but that will probably not make any difference. But you have to read the documentation for the Canon to find out if it will. IOW - if the image should be Grayscale or RGB.
One very important thing when printing like this is to set the printer to manage colors (not PS) in the PS Print dialog.

  • Forcing Black and White in JPEG

    HI,
I must output a jpeg with only 2 colors 000000 and FFFFFF
I've done everything I can think of... no anti-aliasing..feathering......
however... when i save as jpeg.. enevitably i end up with a few pixels at 010101 and 020202 instead of 000000.
anyideas on how to force JUST 000000 and FFFFFF?
    Thanks

    Thanks folks...
I had aplay with the curves and that seems to have taken out most of the offending pixels...
However as pointed out... the jpg compression is still giving me some grief.
Unfortunatly the delivery sepcs are insistant on JPG.. so i've just given them the best I can do within its abilities.
Ive also delivered a TIFF and BMP alongside the PSD files.
    thanks for the help.

  • Lexmark C54x - True Black and White Printing

As shipped this 1200dpi color laser printer - C543dn works with Leopard over a network (yes!).
There is only one thing I wanted to do that was not obvious - how to force black and white even when printing originally color images, and make sure only the black toner is used. A lot of websites use color, of course, and you may not want to pay for that either in time or toner!! As you probably all know the quartz filter option has been removed in Leopard, so unlike "another OS" you don't have a simple printer-independent "print mode" setting to set to black and white.
After a lot of looking around for a manual which details the printer driver options (there isn't one - confirmed by Lexmark support) this is what I have puzzled out. BTW - There is an alternative approach that involves saving to pdf, and then using preview to resave the pdf with the quartz filter applied - but this is simpler if all you want to do is print.
    Basic stuff - Printer Independent
You have to do the set up within "Print..." within in an application (like Firefox or Safari). When you select a Printer in the print dialog you can also use a Preset - it appears in the field under the printer name in the print dialog. To set up the profile the way we want it, first use the "downarrow" to the right of the printer name to access the extra print dialog options.
Now you need to get the Mac to turn everything color in the output to gray - you do this by finding the "Color Matching" option -- its in a pull-down list (half-way down the expanded dialog, in some applications that list starts with the app name (like "Mail"), sometimes its in a list that starts with "Copies and Pages" - each application chooses how this page looks, adding to the confusion). Inside that option, you select "ColorSync" radio button and find the "Generic Gray Profile" in the pulldown. This is the replacement for the quartz filter. But that doesn't mean the printer will only use Black toner... that would be too easy!
Printer Dependent bit - in this case Lexmark C543.
Now move to the "Printer Features" options (also in the list that has "Color Matching") and a new sub-list pulldown will appear - for the Lexmark it has "Quality 1" as the first option.
    - In this sublist select "Quality 1" - set the Resolution field to 1200 dpi.
    - Then select "Color" (still in the sublist) and set the Color Correction field to "Manual".
    - Finally go to the "Manual Color" in the sublist and set all 3 of the RGB fields (Image, Text and Graphics) to "Display - True Black".
After doing all those settings, go to the Preset field pulldown (the one under the printer name at the top) and select Save As... Give it a nice name (Black and White, perhaps?). This way you can recall this preset and all the settings easily. For color you can just go back to the Standard preset.
Now you can print your monochrome masterpiece.
This way I definitely got black and white (grayscale output). Verifying that only black toner was used is not a slam-dunk but it looks like it was. Anyone who has better info on the printer driver and the correct settings (maybe this was overkill even?) please feel free to correct/enhance.
    Hope this helps someone else.

I really like the printer. It is fast, and it was a breeze setting it up as a network printer. Built in duplex is also very cool.
The only drawback is that it uses a lot of toner, which gets expensive. So far I have gone through two black cartridges printing a little over 3000 pages. According to Lexmark, one cartridge is supposed to last 2500 pages, so that doesnt seem right. The pages I have been printing haven´t been THAT full.
But maybe this applies to other brands as well? This is the only color laser printer I have owned.
Anyone else with experience on this? I have been looking for toner refills, but so far no luck..

  • Printing in black and white only - looking for a definitive solution

    Hi
I've been trying to find out once and for all how to make sure my black and white text documents are printing only from the large pigment-based cartridge (525 PGBK), rather than using the smaller black dye-based cartridge (526BK), or from a combination of the dye-based colour cartridges. I've trawled through endless forums, and finally in frustration I recently called Canon's Australian phone support team.
I thought I'd nailed it. The phone support person told me that if the document I'm printing is definitely black only, then all I need to do is print normally, with grayscale DE-selected. He said nothing about also de-selecting duplex. But I've since read online advice that contradicts this in relation to other models (I haven't found any advice based specifically on the MG6150, apart from the phone guy from Canon). Some say you need to SELECT grayscale and DE-select duplex; others say to DE-select both grayscale and duplex; others say to select grayscale, DE-select duplex, and also select dither (on my screen that's under Main > Print Quality > Custom). I'm now wondering whether I've nailed it after all.
If anyone from Canon is reading this, can you please give a definitive answer to these questions:
    1. How do I ensure that my black and white text documents print only from the large pigment cartridge?
    2. Can I print in automatic duplex using this method, or do I have to do manual duplex?
    2. Will this also work for purely black and white NON-text documents as well (e.g., photos that have been converted from colour to B&W)?
    3. If not, is there another way of forcing B&W NON-text documents to print from the pigment cartridge? What about a way of forcing colour documents to print from the pigment cartridge?
    4. If my smaller black dye cartridge (526BK) isn't being used up at the same rate as the other dye cartridges, is there a way of forcing the printer to use this instead of the pigment cartridge for B&W text documents, but NOT to mix in any of the colour cartridges at the same time?
    5. Does this procedure work for all other Canon printer models in addition to the MG6150, or just a limited range?
Many thanks for your patience in reading this -- I'm really trying to get the best out of my printer rather than give up and buy a different brand, and I'm sure others would appreciate a definitive answer to these questions as well.

I have at MG8100 and it seems that there is no solution to this. I have scoured the web for one and it seems that there is no way to print in black and white only. The grayscale option uses all the colours including black to print.
I have gone through a ton of colour ink just printing black and white documents. Its cost me a fortune and I've worked out that I can get it done cheaper by going to the print shop.
As far as I am concerned this unbelievable. A printer that doesn't give you the option to print using black ink only! And its not advertised or made known in any way. You have to buy the product and then find out later that it does not have a black and white print option. It seems there are a lot of people out there that are unhappy about this, and the "problem" seems to go quite far back. Why haven't Canon responded by adding this feature?! I wont say it here, but I think it must be obvious. Brings to mind the story of housecleaning product manufacturers that increase the size of the closures so that consumers will use more of the product, which is actually wasteful, so as to increase the purchase cycle.
This leaves a really bad taste in my mouth. I'm flogging mine now, and I am done with Canon for good!

  • How do I set my printer to only print in black and white?

    Hi,
I was wondering if anyone can help me. I want to be able to print in just black and white on my printer.
My printer is a HP Officejet Pro 6830, and my computer operating system is Mac OS X 10.10 Yosemite.
I do not have an option on my word program that allows me to 'greyscale' or any type of colour option.
Any help would be great, thank you in advance!

    Hi,
Follow the steps below to print using Black Ink only:
    1. From the application used to print, click the File menu and select Print. The Print window appears.
NOTE: The Print window might be minimized: Click the Show Details button to see all available settings.
    2. To access the color options, click the lowest selection box listed as the name of the program (e.g. TextEdit)
Will appear as Copies & Pages within Microsoft Office applications.
    3. Select Paper Type/Quality from the drop-down menu.
    4. Click the triangle next to Color Options to expend the settings.
    5. Set the Color field as Grayscale.
    6. Set the Grayscale Mode as Black Ink Cartridge Only.
You may save the settings for future use by clicking Presets > Save Current Settings as Preset...
Any used preset will remain default so simply select teh standard preset to print in color.

  • I have HP Deskjet 3510 connected wireless - problem is that it wants to print only black and white - is there a color button I am missing?  The print quality report is fine in color etc.

I have a HP Deskjet 3510 and it wants to print only in black and white.
The Print Quality Report is fine and in color.
Is there a color button I am missing?

In the Print & Scan system preferences, does it indicate it is using a generic printer driver or a Gutenprint driver?
Also, if you click on Options & Supplies, you might want to check and see if has to be enabled. That kind of sounds odd though.
Another thing is it might not be showing. If the bottom of the print dialog has a button that says "Show Details," click it. Then, you can change settings in the popup menu.

  • How to print in black and white

I am new to Mac, and notice that I cannot do two things:
    1. I cannot print selected text by right clicking
    2. and , I cannot print anything in Black and white, even though my HP computer is set at black only on the host PC it is connected to. Even if I copy and paste to Word for Mac, it still doesn't give me a BW option. It seems the MAC overrides my HP C3100 settings.
Help, I hope I did not make a mistake in getting a Mac.
    Sincerely,
    Jeff

    1. I cannot print selected text by right clicking
Whether or not you can print selected text depends on the application, but that is not something you typically see.
    2. and , I cannot print anything in Black and white
If the print driver for your printer allows that sort of thing, it's typically accessed in the print dialog. There will be a pop-up menu that lets you access different print options. Some of the typical things you'll see are Layout, Color Matching, Page Handling, etc. For my printer, I have a Quality & Media option, and in those options there's a Grayscale Printing option.
Of course, you have a different printer from a different manufacturer, so YMMV. Check the documentation and the HP support pages.
Help, I hope I did not make a mistake in getting a Mac.
Those seem like fairly minor things to make you doubt an entire platform choice. Give yourself some time to get used to a completely new and unfamiliar system.
