Force download of file on mac?

I have some inDesign files that are posted on a site. I have
created links
to them but with the mac, it wants to just open them in the
browser; it
doesn't just download them .
How do I force a download?

David:
There is no way to create a domain file from the published files. You will have to recreate the site from scratch. You can use, however, the image files that were uploaded for the site so you don't need to go rummaging around trying to find the originals.
The older version would probably be a better option than starting from scratch. You can compare what you see in Safari against iWeb and then use the files that were created for the site to add to what you have in iWeb.
In the future I suggest you make another copy of the newest version of the domain file as you exit iWeb on each location. You can modify varkgirl's Automator application to backup the Domain.sites file to back it up from the Flash drive to a folder on each location before ejecting the flash drive. You can get it here: http://www.varkgirl.com/Varkgirl/iWeb%20Tips.html

There have been some reported problems with Apple's servers.
    Try this.
Reset the iPad by holding down on the Sleep and Home buttons at the same time for about 10-15 seconds until the Apple Logo appears - ignore the red slider - let go of the buttons. (This is equivalent to rebooting your computer.)
Go to Settings>Wi-Fi and turn Off. Then while at Settings>Wi-Fi, turn back On and chose a Network.
I assume you are trying to update via wifi. You can also connect the iPad to your computer and update using iTunes.

  • Downloading Raw Files on MAC

Cannot download or find access to the plugin to allow download of raw files.  Adobe is worthless to me without this capability.  Where is the download for my MAC?

The Nikon D7100 was first supported in Camera Raw 7.4 which is compatible with CS6 and later.
    http://helpx.adobe.com/creative-suite/kb/camera-raw-plug-supported-cameras.html
In Photoshop, click Help > Updates to update Camera Raw.
Once updated, check the installed version of Camera Raw: Photoshop > About Plug-Ins > Camera Raw. It should report version 8.3.
If not, download Camera Raw 8.3 from http://www.adobe.com/support/downloads/product.jsp?product=106&platform=Macintosh and install it manually.

  • Location of CC downloaded update files in Mac Yosemite

    Hi all.
I have been using CC on Windows 7 but last week have purchased a Macbook Pro and wanting to keep my hard drive space optimised I want to know when CC downloads updates where does it store these files - I am presuming here that these files are not required afterwards and they are not automatically deleted by the updater.
    Many thanks.

It may downloaded to your temp folder, and it might removed after some sometimes. The best way to free up the hard drive space is to clear your temp folder.

  • Downloading DWG file on Mac

Have purchase Photoshop 11 elements but can't download the DWG file.

    do you mean dmg?
if so, and if you follow all 7 steps you can dl a trial here:  http://prodesigntools.com/photoshop-elements-11-direct-download-links-pse-premiere-pre.htm l
    and activate with your serial.
if you have a problem dl'g, you didn't follow all 7 steps.  the most common error involves failing to meticulously follow steps 1,2 and/or 3 (which adds a cookie to your system enabling you to download the correct version from adobe.com).

  • How to join download split files

how to join the downloaded split files in mac bookair?

It sorta depends on what was used to split the files. Is it a segmented zip or stuffit file? If so then Unarchiver or Stuffit Expander (respectively) should work. If it is a RAR file RAR Expander should do it.

  • .dmg files forced into .xls files when downloading applications

Why are dmg files being forced into xls files when I'm attempting to download applications from websites?
    MacBook1,1   Mac OS X (10.4.8)

    Hi mospirit,
first of all: WELCOME TO THE DISCUSSIONS!
Sometimes files lose connection to their application. This can be solved quite easily though:
    1. Download Cocktail, OnyX or Tiger Cache Cleaner and reset the "Launch Services Database".
    2. Click any .dmg and type Apple-i to get the Information window. In the pop-up called "Open With" select "Other" and navigate to /System/Library/CoreServices. There select DiskImageMounter as default application. Finally back in the Information window click "Change All".

  • I'm using a Mac, using OS 10.4.11 and I'm trying to save a downloaded .pdf file in Firefox 3.6.10, what's the easiest way to accomplish that?

I downloaded a file from Apple, Support and it downloaded as a .pdf file.(http://support.apple.com/manuals/#powermac - item # 38 (4th page 8th item down).
I want to cut & paste that .pdf into an AppleWorks 6.2.9 word processing document. Using the select All option, so as to highlight the material on the page - I'm not allowed this option(it doesn't do it, thus I can't copy the document and paste it. It's a 7 MB download.
http://support.apple.com/kb/HE39?viewlocale=en_US " How to Download Product Manuals (PDF files) states that:
    Using a Mac with Firefox:
    1) Click the manual you want to download. Firefox will ask if you want to open or save the document.
    2) Choose Save and select a location to save the manual.
The option/process 1) didn't take place - It simply went directly to the window showing that the download was taking place and that window shows what is being D/L and a progress bar.
In the preference options -->General I have selected "Save files to: Desktop". I have not selected /√ "Show the Downloads window when downloading a file", however, that is exactly what happens.
Thanks for any assistance that you can provide.

As you have a Power Mac you also have a alternative option to consider which is a third-party build from http://tenfourfox.blogspot.com/2011/08/601-now-available.html

  • I wish to upload a PDF file to my website but Firefox 3.6.12 reports it as type application/force-download and NOT application/pdf, WHY?

My website has been running for many months, and as part of the site users can upload PDF documents to share with others. The last successful upload was 5th Nov, but to-day my upload was rejected because Firefox returned the document type as application/force-download rather than application/pdf. Uploads work fine with IE8.
The site uses PHP to check extension and document type and, as I mentioned, has worked fine for many months. I have even attempted to upload the same document that succeeded on the 5th, but again Firefox returns application/force-download as the document type.
    Why the change?

    Just found a solution.
In Tools, Options, Application Firefox listed TWO options against Adobe Acrobat Documents; the apprliaction/pdf and application/force-download. I have deleted mimeTypes.rdf and allowed Firefox to re-create the file. All works as it should now!

                if (userAgent.toLowerCase().indexOf("mac") >= 0) {
                    response.setContentType("application/octet-stream");
                } else {
                    response.setContentType(TEXT_CSV);
// These Lines were added to make it work on the secure https

Do you think the monitor, keyboard and mouse will work on it? Would I have to get a hub so I could use the stuff I already have? Is that viewsonic too old to work on it?
What else would I need? Please advise...

    Yes for keyboard and mouse.
The monitor will work if it has an HDMI, VGA ir DVI input. If it only has a VGA input you will need this adopter

    Hi, Hugo,
In similar cases it helped to remove the GarageBand "Preferences" file from the User Library.
    Open the folder
your home folder > Library > Preferences
and move the file "com.apple.garageband.plist" to the Desktop.
Then try again to launch GarageBand.

  • Mac adds automatically a suffix when downloading a file. How to stop the Mac from doing this?

I want to download a gps-file for my tomtom navigation system.
These files have the suffix .itn
When downloading, OS X transforms the file from filename.itn  to   filename.itn.txt automatically, therefore adds an ".txt", and opens the texteditor with the file.
I just want OS X to leave the file as it ist and add or do nothing to or with it. Just put it in the download-folder.
When hiding the suffix with apple-i, the file is no longer readable for the navi system. There ist no option to tell the mac just to do nothing; you just can select a different app. But this is not the solution.
    What can I do?
    Thanks

I use a much older version of Safari when I do use it. I have that unchcked but when I download a file Safari just downloads it without any prompt for a file name.  What the OP needs is a way to change how Safari handles downloads so it either identifies them correctly and stops adding the wrong extenion to a file, or a way to edit the file name at download time. My old version doesn't have any apparent way to configure either of these, but I can do it in Firefox.
    What?
The file has a name prior to downloading, Safari does not ask for one to be added at download time (neither do other browsers), once the file has been downloaded the extension can be corrected.

  • I bought windows 8 from the Microsoft store. How do I download it on my mac to burn on a dvd as it is an exe file?

    Hello,
I just bought Windows 8 and have now got a downloadable link with a product key. How can I download it on my mac so I can burn it on a DVD to start the Bootcamp? When I press to download, it wont as it is an exe file. I tried to download it on a windows computer so I can burn it but it asked to input the Product key, so was quite weary as it might have registred windows on that laptop.
    Any suggestions?
    Cheers

where is button to accept end user agreement so I can download or read online file.  mac osx reader XI
every time i click  on a file to downloac
i get a reader message Before viewing PDF ... you must launch adobe reader and then accept the End User License Agreement. Ive searched  every part of the menu for this and cant fine it

Ok, so the Reader app works. Fine, but why did you say ",the reader won't open any more", that led us a confusing direction.
Ok, the problem is most likely caused because you downloaded Acrobat Pro, which takes over from Reader, then got rid of it. You now have part of Acrobat in Safari, not part of Adobe Reader.
There are two things to try to fix this. The first and easiest is to download and install Adobe Reader again. That should puts its stuff back in Safari with a bit of luck.
Important note for others following this thread. Downloading Adobe Reader is not going to help you if you have not understood and followed the instructions to "launch" Adobe Reader (or Adobe Acrobat). Make sure you understand what "launch" means before downloading anything again.
