Force Feedback steering wheel

Hi to all,
I don't know if it is the correct place to post, but I would like to buy a new steering wheel to play with Grand Prix Legends (and its mods) under wine.
My current steering wheel has two issue:
1) it has combined pedals (accelerator and brake use the same axis, so if you press the at the same time the output is zero and you cant brake and at the same time use the accelerator to maintain high engine RPM using the cluth which, hower, is not present and I've to command with a button)
2) it has no force feedback.
So I would like to buy a new one with these non combined pedals and force feedback. Obviously it must work in my arch linux 64 bit system using wine (maybe in the future I may also start playing with the native vdrift).
So before buying anew device I would like to know if:
1) anybody play with racing games and can help me finding a working device;
2) anybody play with Grand Prix Legends under wine with a Force Feedback Steering Wheel;
3) this package (https://aur.archlinux.org/packages.php?ID=50236) is needed to use force feedback. I suppose it will install a library, but I don't know if it will be usable also from a 32 bit program (wine) running in my 64 bit system. Does anybody have experience on that?
Thank you,
Xwang

Hi Teemu,
Like Paul or Sean suggested, using directX, win API, or DLL calls can all provide a solution to your problem.
I would suggest looking at http://digital.ni.com/public.nsf/websearch/CA411647F224787B86256DD000669EFE?OpenDocument for some more information on reading the joystick/gamepad. To send the force feedback, I would suggest trying to find some more information on the driver provided with Logitech device (maybe searching on google forums) and then calling the functions in LV.
If you end up using the dll's then you can use DependencyWalker (not an NI utility) to get the function names in that dll and then probably searching web on those function names.
You are working on a cool application and maybe you are the first one doing it, so do post the solution in the end.

  • Force Feedback for Lion and Saitek R440 Wheel

I just got Dirt2 from the App-Store and it works fine.
Except my wheel a SAITEK R440 Force Feedback just lets me control the car but there is no force feedback with it.
So I wrote a mail to Feral and got a simple answer:
"Apple took out the support for force feedback from lion and so it wont work at all.
We hope Apple would fix this problem one fine day"
    Is this correct?
If YES: When will Apple support Force Feedback for Wheels (to play Dirt2 at full range)
If NO: Whts going wrong with my device?
    Can you help me please.
    Andre

All steering wheels that have force feedback in Snow Leopard you can fix in Lion by using the hint on the vgp3depot forums. However that solution is not offically supported. I don't know if Force Feedback ever worked on the Saitek wheels on the Mac as I don't think Saitek wrote any drivers.

  • Logitech Driving Force GT,How limit 900º steering wheel angle to 200º?

    Hi,
I've read that iRacing is going to be ported to linux soon and I've said to myself "Hey man! The time has come, I already can almost say... goooooood bye win!" So, I must be ready when that time comes.
I've got a Logitech Driving Force GT wheel. It's well detected by the kernel at boot time and I can check that it's well detected with jstest-gtk (its whole 900 degrees and pedals are well detected). It's not a problem if you're going to drive a street car, in fact it's what must be since the 900º is a feature of this wheel. But when you need to drive an F1 you must limit the steering wheel angle to 200 or 270 degrees. In windows works perfectly with the logitech profiler, it's the easiest thing ever, but in linux I have no idea how to do it.
When I drive an F1 car I must turn my wheel one turn and a half to reach the side limit, while the wheel of the car in the game just turns about 3/4 of a turn. We both (me with my wheel and the wheel at the videogame) reach the side end of the range at the same time, but the wheel in the videogame just turns 3/4 of a turn while I must turn one whole turn and a half.
I've tried with LTWheelConf ($ sudo ltwheelconf --wheel DFGT --range 200), G25manage, usb-tool... but anything succeed. I've read something about that since kernel 3.2 the FFB and wheels control is built into the kernel modules so these tools are not working anymore or something like that. But, if that's true, how do we do those things that these program did now?
About Force Feed Back, it just works in Live for Speed (although not as good as in windows) while in rFactor, GTR 2, GTR Evolution, TORCS, VDrift and Speed Dreams does not work at all. But I think this needs other topic.
How can I limit the steering angle to my desired degrees?

May I continue this thread in the kernel & hardware forum because I've realize that the wheel isn't detected with the 900 grades and full range pedals at boot time, I have to run  ltwheelconf --wheel DFGT --nativemode. So it is more a device configuration than a software use of it.

  • Force feedback wheel & K7T Pro2-A (6330) troubles

    hi!
I've problems with my ms sidewinder wheel with force feedback and with my motherboard K7T Pro2-A (MS-6330). I'm able to install the wheel under windows xp (same under windows 98), but the force feedback doesn't work properly. I tried to solve the problem with a new driver for the motherboard and onboard soundcard, but without success.
Is there a known problem with the game port?
    Has someone similar problems?
I think this problem was already discussed in former threads, but I'm not able the search in old forum because of a DBLayer error
    thx in advance.

    Hi,
According to this thread you need the latest software for your Sidewinder.  Which is the first place you should look actually
Don't load the ones from CD.  They are usually out of date.

  • My ipod classic 160gb will be playing fine then it sometimes freezes up or start shuffling through the songs not playing at all. After i reset it works ok for a while then same thing. Bought this so i could control through my steering wheel/radio.

I sure hope someone can help me with these ipod classic 160gb issues.
My ipod classic 160gb will be playing fine and then freeze up (unable to move around in it at all) and i have to reset it. This happens constantly whether in my car or when i listen at work. After i reset it works ok for a while then eventually requires another reset.
Another problem is that it will be playing fine and then start shuffling through songs without playing them. The songs that get shuffled work fine in the itunes program but not on the device. A reset does not correct the problem with these particular songs.
Also, sometimes when it is working and not freezing up or shuffling through, it will appear that a song is playing (in fact it says "now playing"), the song titlte is scrolling, but the song progression bar does not move. The count up in front of the bar stays at 0:00, and the count down at the end of the bar stays at the song length minutes not counting down. After I reset, it works fine and all the songs will play.
The reason I got this thing was because i can control it through my steering wheel/radio while i'm driving. I previously had a Zune 80gb which i'm glad I held on to. I have over 6600 songs (so I'm obviously a serious music listener and obviously frustrated), but only about 10 songs were downloaded through itunes, the rest I either ripped or downloaded from other site. From what i've been reading it sounds like there's a lot of ipod owners out there experiencing similar problems. Does anyone have any suggestions to resolve these issues for me and everyone else? I got my first iphone 8 months ago, then the ipod and was considering an ipad. But in light of my ipod issues.....
I hope someone can help me and convince me it wasn't a mistake to go Apple! Thanks!!

I finally resolved my problem after spending way too much time on it. I simply handed my 160GB iPod to my husband to put his fav Stones & Beatles songs on and I went back to my 80GB Microsoft Zune which has never disappointed me.
After spending so much time trying to figure this out I did finally take it back to Apple Store who performed a diagnostic and found there was a problem with the device. They replaced it with a refurbished one which has similar issues. All I wanted to do was listen to my music. Was that too much to ask? So I am happy to be free of this problematic device. No more Apple for me!!

  • Ipod touch 5th gen steering wheel controls

    Hi,
I have an Ipod touch 5th gen running ios 7.1.1 and a Pioneer x3600dab car stereo.
I cannot change track using my steering wheel.  Volume works.
This is the same with Bluetooth connection and direct via USB.
Has anyone found a work around for this issue?  I know the track change works because elsewhere on the stereo unit the buttons work.
    Thanks

Have you went to Pioneer's support site?
Using the communities search box in the upper right you can try searching for pioneer and the car manufacturer if it came with the car.

  • How do I control my iPhone music from my steering wheel

I'm still having trouble controlling my music from my steering wheel. I have a 2012 scion xb. Plus it doesn't auto play when I start the car. What am I doing wrong?

If it uses bluetooth, Apple may have upgraded the bluetooth version in iOS 7.  Check with the car dealer to see if there's an upgrade to the car's bluetooth.

  • Calling a Function node in a DLL to give force-feedback effect to a joystick (using DirectInput)

    Hello,
I have been working for a couple of weeks on writing a DLL in Visual C++ Studio. My intention is to write an exported function in the DLL to initialize a Logitech Force3Dpro joystick, setup a force feedback effect and run it using DirectInput. I would like to control this force feedback effect (in particular, the intensity of the feedback) from Labview by calling the function in the DLL.
I followed the FFConst example in Microsoft SDK DirectInput Samples for making an .exe file to setup and run force feedback effects. I have been able to build the DLL successfully with an exported function that can be accessed from Labview by "Call a function node". I tested the function by running simple functions such as addition and multiplication of integers, andconfirmed the fact that the DLL was built correctly. I have also included the DirectInput code for initializing and running the force feedback effect. I am able to compile and build the DLL with no problems.
    The Problem:
The only problem that I have at this point is with setting SetCooperativeLevel for the DirectInput8 joystick device. I have to provide a top-level window handle to SetCooperativeLevel so that I can give the function exclusive access to the joystick. Since I am not making a window and am building a DLL, I am not sure what handle I am supposed to provide it so that the joystick can respond. I am not sure if passing a handle to the Labview window would work because it is accessing the DLL's function? I tried passing LabView window handle to the function and read the X-axisposition off the joystick, but it read some junk (huge long integer) - which lead me to believe that the problem is something to do with initializing the joystick.
For all practical purposes, I am a complete novice at DirectInput
programming and working with Visual C++. Although, I have programmed in
C++previously. I am sorry for the long message, but I wanted to give a bit of background so that my aim is clear.
Any help, advice or direction with this problem be very much appreciated. Thank you for your time!
    Cheers!

  • Muvo² 5GB steering Wheel questio

    Hi!
One difference between the MuVo? 4GB and the newer 5GB (FM) units are the Jog Wheels:
    http://www.creative.com/iss/images/corporate/artwork/wp_muvo2fm_allcolours_024.jpg
which seems to be MUCH more difficult to use than the older ones:
    http://www.creative.com/iss/images/corporate/artwork/art_muvo2_prod.jpg
How practical is the new construction and how easy is it to skip just one Title forward when you have to pull the button sidewards instead of just pushing it down? I think the Volume control is also not that easy to use...
Why did Creative change the former steering Wheel which was nearly perfect?

    Thanks for your answers!
It's not possible to take a first look in a Store cause none of the Stores around my place got the 5GB Version of that unit. They have ALL Creative Players except the new MuVo?!
The only option is to order it from Amazon but when it has an uncomfortable steering I'd have to send it back and it's much better to avoid that course of action. So my question...
Just from the point of Design the older version looked MUCH better.

  • HT1430 I drive a 2011 Ford Escape with sync technology.  My iphone 4 on the osi 6 would connect through bluetooth and allow me the handsfree access on the steering wheel to run my music.  It won't let me change with osi 7

I cannot figure out why the new upgrade osi 7 will not allow me to use the bluetooth control in my 2011 ford escape to be able to change the song on the steering wheel like I could with osi 6.  It's making me log into my phone to be able to change it and I don't text and drive so this is defeating the whole purpose of hands free.

you need a firmware update from stero mfg.

  • Bluetooth on steering wheel question

    Hi,
I currently use my iPhone in my car with a GPS stand and connect it to my
audio system via the AUX jack. Works fine.
Recently, I've seen Bluetooth sets that you add to your steering wheel and
let you answer calls directly from the wheel (I don't have a built-in one).
Besides call operations, would anyone here know whether there is a tool
like that that is also able to control the music tracks: play, plause, next and prev.?
    I've seen this one
    http://beta.hammacher.com/Product/Default.aspx?sku=78040
But it is only for phone operations, not music.
What I need is not to have the music streamed by FM or to the bluetooth kit.
I want to keep my music throught the Jack and AUX plugs but just be able to
answer calls and add track controls.
    Thanks for any help

yes if you have Bluetooth on your PC as well

  • Driving the force feedback of an MS joystick

  • Flight pedals, Steering wheel pedals qjoypad

    Hello,
Does anybody know, or could they test to see if their pedals will work with qjoypad, it does not have to be flight pedals, steering wheel pedals would do, I just want to be able to configure the pedals with and in qjoypad.
    I was looking at
saitek USB Pro Flight Rudder Pedals
    or CH Pedals
But I found this cheap flight pedals, but can't get answer if they would work from the seller
    http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Flight-Simulat...item27b0e388a9

In LabVIEW 7, there are some built-in VIs for accessing a joystick. I would think they would also work with a wheel and pedals as long as it identifies itself as a joystick device, though I have not tried this.
You'll find them in the 'Advanced>Input Device Control' palette.
If you don't have LabVIEW 7, I know I've seen some VIs that can access a joystick, but I can't find them right now. Try doing a web search on "joystick +labview" and see what you come up with.
    Good luck

Using the Abort button to stop your VI is like using a tree to stop your car. It works, but there may be consequences.

  • Lightning connector and Steering wheel controlls?

Its a fact that the lightning connector supports Analog audio Out and usb audio out, so thats great!
but what about steering wheel controlls? are those still working?
im connecting my iphone over usb with my car audio system.
cant seem to find that answer anywhere on the internet!

My 3GS integrated with the steering wheel controls on my 2011 Nissan Versa Sport, but it was slow, and sometimes it would take a couple of tries for the stereo to "see" the connection.
With the 30-pin to Lightning cable, my iPhone 5 is integrating perfectly, plus it's faster and works first time, every time. I don't know if it's my imagination, but it seems like the sound is a little crisper, too.
The Apple store advised that I had 2 weeks to try the adapter, with a no-questions-asked return policy. Best thing to do, is try it and see!

  • Can't answer iphone 4s calls using the button on the steering wheel of my Buick 2009 Enclave.

My iphone 4s is hooked up to my Buick Enclave 2009 using Blueetooth.  I can activate Bluetooth via the button on the steering wheel and make voice calls with no problem. However when someone calls me, I can hear the phone ringing through the speakers and can see the number on the display but I can't answer the call using the answer button on the steering wheel.  I have to reach over and touch answer on the phone and then I can continue the conversation via Bluetooh. Appreciate any help.  Thanks.

The exact same issue is happening with my iphone 5. I don't believe it is the Life Proof case because I have had the pnone for several months and this just recently started happening, I took it to an Apple store and they claimed that this issue is new, that they have never seen it before. After about an hour of trouble shooting, they gave me a new phone.
The new phone worked fine (in the case) for about a week and then started having the same problem. I am on the Sprint network. I have an iphone 4s for work in the same case on the AT&T network and do not have any problems.
I am going to go back to the Apple store at my first opportunity. I wish I would have kept my old 4s which I had no problems with.
