Force new window to open in new tab

Now my safari open pages from the original pages to the new pages, I tried to set Safari to open pages in new tabs. I tried Safari ▹ Preferences ▹ Tabs ▹ Open pages in tabs instead of windows: Automatically or Never or Always, but it still opened the pages on the original one.

Open a Finder window. From the Finder menu bar click Go > Go to Folder
Type or copy paste the following:
~/Library/Caches/com.apple.Safari/Cache.db
Click Go then move the Cache.db file to the Trash.
Quit and relaunch Safari to test.
If that doesn't help ...
Open a Finder window. From the Finder menu bar click Go > Go to Folder
Type or copy paste the following:
~/Library/Preferences/com.apple.Safari.plist
Click Go then move the com.apple.Safari.plist file to the trash.
Quit, relaunch Safari and test again.

• Would like new window to open in new tab as to opening in an exsisting tab and replacing open window

Would like new window to open in new tab as to opening in an exsisting tab and replacing open window

Could you describe the problem or problems in more detail? For example:
* Are you clicking a link in page open in Firefox, or following a link from a different application?
* Do you want different things to happen between those two cases?
Background: Pages have a range of ways to set up a link. These can include:
(A) Same window or tab (default)
To change how this is handled, you can manually Ctrl+click the link to open it in a new tab, or use an add-on like Tab Mix Plus to override the default.
(B) New blank window (target="_blank")
On the Tabs panel of the Options dialog, the first checkbox determines whether you see a new window or a new tab in the current window.
(C) Named target (e.g., target="MyApp")
On the Tabs panel of the Options dialog, the first checkbox determines whether you see a new window or a new tab in the current window.
HOWEVER, if the site already used this named target before and the window/tab is still open, Firefox will re-use that window/tab and replace the current page with the new page.
To change how this is handled, you can manually Ctrl+click the link to open it in a new tab, or perhaps an an add-on can override the default.
(D) Scripted (pop-up) window
This can be the same as any of the above, or the page can bypass the new window/new tab setting by specifying certain features of the new pop-up window. There is a hidden override if you are running into this problem (browser.link.open_newwindow.restriction).

• I just updated to Firefox 8 and I can't get new windows to open in new tabs. The settings under 'Tools/Tabs" are correct. I tried uninstalling/re-installing Firefox, what do I do next?

• Nothing happens when I press File/New Tab. Under Tools/Options/Tabs I have checked 'open windows in a new tab instead' and 'always show tab bar.' Pressing File/New Window does open a new window. How can I get new tabs to open? That's how I like to work.

• New Window from "FILE- NEW-WINDOW" duplicates all the currently open tabs in the new window. I want new window with just the "Home" tab please?

Running Firefox 3.6.13 on 64Bit Win7.
I like to group tabs on a topic in a window, and when the tabs get to be too many, or a new topic, I do FILE->NEW-WINDOW and expect a new window with just one default (Home) tab. Instead I get a new window with ALL the tabs of the first window.
I have checked all the Options I could find. Nothing helped. I CAN make a new Window with just one tab if I right-click a link and say "Open in NEW Window".

A new window should only open with the home page(s).<br />
If you see differently then you need to check your extensions.
Start Firefox in Safe Mode to check if one of the add-ons is causing the problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Tools > Add-ons > Themes).

• Whenever I open a new window of firefox a new tab opens with the new window. How do I get it to stop doing that?

Whenever I open a new window of Firefox, the new window opens at the hope page (like I want it to), but then a tab opens up with the new window. I want Firefox to stop doing this. When I open a new window I just want the window to open. I don't know how to fix this as I have know idea how I made this happen. This first happened when I hit control + N to open a new window, but I didn't hit the "N" cleanly. I pressed one of the other keys around the "N" and this issue started.

Start Firefox in <u>Safe Mode</u> to check if one of the extensions (Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Extensions) or if hardware acceleration is causing the problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Appearance).
*Do NOT click the Reset button on the Safe Mode start window.

• Every time I open a new Window, it opens with a second tab. With "my" top sites. How can I undo this? I made a screenshot, if necessary.

When I open a new window, it opens 2 tabs. First is the requested url. Second is a tab without an adress. The second tab looks like some kind of touchscreen buttons for smartphones? I guess, it's an Firefox feature.
I tried about:config and changed browser.newtab.url, checked starting window, etc. etc. Nothing helped.
How can I keep my Firefox from opening this tab? Please help!

• Can I set up a new window to open without all the tabs from the current window opwning?

I have a new computer at work with what must be a new version of firefox. I use multiple windows to do my job. When I open a new window, all the tabs from the current window open in the new one. I am wondering how to configure a new window to open with either a blank page or just my homepage?

I restarted Firefox and changed the homepage settings a to a different choice and back to the desired page then restarted Firefox again. This eliminated all the initial tabs from opening from opening in the new window. I am not sure how all the pages were cached or what I should have done but I no longer have this issue.

• When Firefox 4 is minimized and I open a new link, it opens in a tab but I can't see my browser. My visulization fills the webpage.

When Firefox 4 is minimized and I click on a link or use a shortcut that would open that link in a new tab, Firefox maximizes and I am unable to see the page until I "restore" then "maximize" the page. I believe this is due to my visualization add-on, as I can see that only, and it seems to fill the entire page.
Another issue I am having is when I do a search using Windows 7 start menu "search the internet", I am getting a new window instead of a new tab. I was sure to check off "open new windows in a new tab instead" in the Firefox settings.
Please let me know if there is a fix for either issue.
Thanks!

Some added toolbar and anti-virus add-ons are known to cause

Start Firefox in Safe Mode {web Link} by holding down the <Shift (Mac Options) > key, and then starting Firefox. Is the problem still there?

• When I open a new window, it opens behind the exist ing window instead of in front of it. How can I fix this?

When I click on a link and I choose the option to open link in a new window, it opens behind the currently open window instead of in front of it. This is a real nuisance. Why is this happening, and how do I fix it?

Hi alanbala,
There are several possible reasons why the new window opens in the background and not in the foreground by default.
# another installed program is causing this
# the Firefox main window is set to Always on Top
# probably a Windows 7 bug
# possibly a Firefox bug https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=790013
What you can do is
# update your Windows 7 to the latest security patches
# open Mozilla Firefox in Safe Mode (see KB article Troubleshoot Firefox issues using Safe Mode)
# evaluate the other programs installed on your computer
# open new links on a new tab
Let us know your progress. I will be following this support thread.

• Getting new windows to open in firefox

Hey guys. Ive made a page where when you click on a pic, and
a new window opens up. I controlled the size and all that with java
script. Theres a link in that popup which i want to open another
new normal window. By making the target blank it works fine in IE.
But firefox is just making it a new tab in the same popup window.
Anyone know how i can make it make a new window in firefox?
thanks

With Tab Mix Plus set for all pop ups to open in new tabs
that code stills
opens in a new tab. Not in a new window.
