Force No NYC Withholding
Hi: My company uses PeopleSoft for payroll and taxes, and I would like to know if there is a way to force no NYC income tax withholding within the PeopleSoft system. The situation is that I am a non-resident of New York State for income tax purposes, despite having a NYC address, and therefore should have no NYC income tax withheld for all of 2013 (according to NYS rules). I'm assuming there must be a way to do this, and just want to confirm so I can help the people do the correct withholding. Thx.
Please refer to Payroll US for documentation on Tax processing. It explain very clearly how Federal, State and Local taxes are being processed in SAP.
http://help.sap.com/printdocu/core/print46c/en/data/pdf/PYUS/PYUS.pdf
Refer from page 333 onwards relating to Tax processing.
Hope this helps

I am going to NYC in a week and I'm wondering if there is a store where I can buy a new trackpad for my Macbook Pro 2011 unibody. I would also like to buy the tools i need to replace it myself. I can't find anything when I search the interwebz.
The problem is that when the machine is closed, it goes to sleep, and in sleep mode, all that goes on is that a bare trickle of power is used to keep the contents of RAM alive. Networking is definitely not active while asleep.
Now, regarding ds store's solution, that's a fairly bad idea. If the machine is just sitting at your desk, you don't need to close it, or if you feel a need to close it you can use Kappy's solution. (Although, it should be noted that apps like InsomniaX and Caffeine do not, as far as I know, keep a machine awake when the lid is shut.) If you're worried about passersby seeing your screen, just activate the screen saver instead. You could even require a password to dismiss the screen saver for added security.
On the other hand, if the machine is being transported, keeping the lid open and the machine running is not a good idea. The sudden motion sensor ought to protect your hard drive against damage caused by moving the machine around... if it's working properly, and I'd rather not depend on an "if" to prevent hardware damage to the machine. Plus, if it's in a bag and you've forced it to stay running, it could overheat due to lack of ventillation.
So, long story short: if you're transporting it, close it and deal with logging back in to the network, and if it's on your desk, don't bother closing it. -
Why am I forced to use Itunes SA if I in anyway travel between the UD
I unfortunately registered my Apple using my SA address and have since been forced to use the Itunes SA for my application downloads and I also cannot download anything from the Apple Store USA because of this restriction, I travel between countries all the time and spend virtually no time in SA.
I have tried using my USA bank account and have added a USA billing address but as I have created a SA 'based" account before keeps going back on the SA Store etc. I don't know who's all aware of what is happening in SA regarding "Apple" and "Mackintosh" etc, but its a crying shame. You go into a store, what they have can be anything between two and five years old (on the shelves). The staff knows NOTHING. You go into a shop and you get all these blank stares. I bought a laptop from a "accredited" ha ha ha Apple Store in Menlyn Park, when it picked up a problem I found out that the one shop assistant had tried to open it in the back of the store using a knife to see if he could fix it himself...only to find that the Laptop had components of LG and Samsung and other generic brands inside, not a Apple laptop at all.The shop assistant was not surprised, he said yes, he knows, the Apple devices bought in SA are from China, assembled there as cheaply as possible...Some Chinese mixup. It was then sent away for repairs, I waited for nearly four months. Was returned still not working so I got rid of it. You access the Itunes Page for SA you will see there's nothing available, very little and no movies nothing. Sad state of affairs. I own nine Apple Devices all bought from the Apple Store on 5 th NYC. I buy nowhere else. So then while being in the USA I can use the Itunes USA store, but immediately when I return I'm thrown back onto the SA sites. Oh my goodness. Ps thank you for your reply anyways..

Hi
See my answers below
1) Will we be able to re-use our 8.2 scripts (Functional and Load Testing) in 8.5 or 9.0, or will they require re-writing?
You can reuse the scripts as long as they don't have any VB in them, as the VB engined has been removed
2) Will we be able to continue to write our scripts in Functional Tester and play them back in the load tester (thin client) as we have been doing.
No OpenScript separates both scripts you will not even be able to see the script in the e-load interface
3) Are we forced to learn OpenScript and use OpenScript (either for 8.5 / 9.0 or in a soon upcoming release)?
Yes, e-tester support will end soon and will be replaced with OpenScript, OpenScript has been developed by the same team that did e-tester so changing from one tool to the other should not be difficult.
4) Will scripts created in OpenScript for Functional Testing, be usable in Load testing or will we need to create seperate scripts again.
No, there may be support for that in the future but not now.

Exchange Rate Difference generated when process payment w/ withholding tax
I post a foreign currency vendor invoice w/ withholding tax posting
that is related to the expense transaction. We have assigned a
withholding tax type '01' for invoice posting (that means the
withholding tax calculated during invoice posting). And this
withholding tax amount is calculated using special exchange rate
announced by Bank of Thailand (BOT). And this posting is fine. e.g. Dr
Expense Cr Vendor Cr Withholding tax.. The withholding tax amount is
calculated based on BOT rate, Expense posting is based on M rate and
the AP posting is equal to Expense Posting minus withholding tax
posting..
Assume BOT Rate is 3:1 and M rate is 2:1
FC LC
Dr Expense 100 200
Cr Vendor 85 155
Cr WH Tax 15 45
When I process outgoing payment with foreign currency for this invoice,
system always take M rate (or I use special document type to force the
system use BOT rate), but either these two results will make the
posting imbalance in Local currency, then make posting to exchange
gain/loss..
How can this problem solved? Any configuration control? Or what we only
can do is to input the LC amount during payment posting..
Please advice.
AngusPlease check table V_T7XSSPERSUBTYP, where in the subtypes for specific countries / cities need to be maintained for different infotypes. In this case check for IT0210.

When I login, all of my desktop items are gone, the "Finder" icon is bouncing and a message asking to restore windows is blinking but unresponsive. I can't exit out of it. What do I do? I've tried force quitting, and it doesn't get rid of this message. When I login to my husband's account, this message does not appear.
Hey sunnyday7!
Here is an article that can help you address this issue:
OS X: How to quit an unresponsive application using Force Quit
http://support.apple.com/kb/ht3411
Additional Information
OS X automatically relaunches the Finder when it is quit. If the Finder is unresponsive, use Force Quit to relaunch it. Select Finder in the Force Quit Window or Dock, then click Relaunch.
Thanks for using the Apple Support Communities. Have a good one!

Need help for trying to unfreeze a message on my ical. I was trying to copy and paste some appointment info from one day to another on my ical and a message popped up saying the system responded with an error. All of my info was below the message. I can't get that message to go away or work on the ical now at all. I try to force quit ical and have shut down the computer and it still comes up. Any suggestions?
K,
Try removing the com.apple.iCal.plist file from your Macintosh HD/Users/yourusername/Library/Preferences Folder. To find that Library folder, if you are using Lion, use Finder>Go Menu>Depress the "Option" key>Library. Drag the .plist file to your desktop, and log out/in or restart.
Next, make sure that you are not connected to the internet. Then to to your Macintosh HD/Users/yourusername/Library/Calendars Folder and remove any files with "Cache" as a part of the file name. Use the same method as listed above to get to the correct Library Folder. Log out/in, or restart and check iCal for functionality. -
I've recently reinstalled OS X Mountain Lion on a laptop (completely and thoroughly erased the partitions of the previous installation), and on this freshly created system, after I sign in to the App Store (to download previous purchases), the system behaves as if packages are already installed - which they are not!
Under the Purchases tab, packages (such as Xcode or other previous purchases) are showing with a greyed out "INSTALLED" button on the right. Other packages (which have not been installed) are showing with a (pressable) button of "UPDATE". (For example, iPhoto has a newer version in Mavericks; it seems always possible to click on UPDATE and be prompted to install the latest version for Mountain Lion -- even though that process can be infinitely repeated). But iPhoto (along with any other packages) has not been installed to the host yet. /Applications/iPhoto.app and any others are not showing at all on the system, but App Store still believes that they're installed already (preventing a real install, or pretending that an upgrade is an upgrade and not an install). There are some packages which DO say "INSTALL". Those are the ones that I have never installed before on the laptop. So it appears to be possible to still install some packages - but that's the set that I do not want to install. So for example, now I can't seem to install Xcode or iPhoto or any other previously purchased applications. It seems pretty clear that there are some bugs here. But I am concerned about the source of the association - how is OS X determining that THOSE packages are "installed already", but others are not? Is the upstream App Store server keeping track of machine ID to make this determination? I heard at one point that App Store uses Spotlight internally - is it somehow querying that? Finally I wanted to confirm that this is really a complete reinstall. I set /dev/zero to the first few sectors of the raw hard drive in order to ensure that I could make a few partiiton table, and when I then reinstalled the system, I chose a different partition arrangement. I have no other drives connected. So it's truly a reinstall of the OS from scratch, and at the moment I can't see a clear way to install apps! I also had killed the App Store agent running in the background, moved away App Store related files in ~/Library/Caches/ and started again. Yet I get the exact same response. This is concerning from a privacy perspective too. Suppose the App Store server is encoding the list of installed packages and associating it with the host and then perhaps I sell the laptop. Now the list of apps may be available to a new user of the laptop. But it may only show if the same Apple ID is used.
In any case, I'd like to know how I can best move past this issue, workaround it, and install packages. Can I force an app to install, even if it's believed to be installed already? Can I attempt to do an "uninstall"? Any suggestions about this would be greatly appreciated.i also have a very similar problem my mac crashed due to a dodgy hard drive which has now been upgraded and snow leopard reinstalled and i cannot re install my purchased apps which is a pain in the back side any help please

Hello,
I am having trouble with my MacBook Air 13 inch June 2012 MacBook Air5, 2 4GB RAM details below in Etresoft report. I recently upgraded to Yosemite and am having system trouble. My computer crashes and I have to force quit to restart. When using webmail there is a black screen for a split second between pages. This did not happen before. I am worried that it is not running properly and perhaps I need to revert to the previous operating system. I only have a MacBook Air and no need to share images between a tablet or phone so I did not need the new photo sharing software of Yosemite. I wonder if I don't have enough RAM to run it? I did not run time machine before I made the upgrade as I did not realise the significance of an upgrade as not very Mac literate. Any advice on whether my system is in danger... most appreciated! I am writing a book and making a back up but this machine is my lifeline and my work is conducted through it. It ran perfectly before... the Yosemite upgrade has perhaps highlighted some problems and it has unnerved me!
Thanks ever so much for your advice!
Lillibet

User sPlease read this whole message before doing anything.
This procedure is a diagnostic test. It won’t solve your problem. Don’t be disappointed when you find nothing has changed after you complete it.
Third-party system modifications are a common cause of usability problems. By a “system modification,” I mean software that affects the operation of other software -- potentially for the worse. The following procedure will help identify which such modifications you've installed. Don’t be alarmed by the complexity of these instructions -- they’re easy to carry out and won’t change anything on your Mac.
These steps are to be taken while booted in “normal” mode, not in safe mode. If you’re now running in safe mode, reboot as usual before continuing.
Below are four lines of text in monospaced type, which are actually shell commands -- little programs. They’re harmless, but they must be used exactly as given in order to work.
First and most important, don’t run these commands until you have verified that they’re legitimate. Never execute shell commands from an untrusted source without knowing what they do, or at least that they don’t do anything harmful. I’ve posted these same commands, with minor variations, many times on this site. You should be able to find other discussions in which they were used without ill effects. Do that before proceeding.
Some of the commands will probably line-wrap in your browser, but each one is really just a single long line, all of which must be selected. You can accomplish this easily by triple-clicking anywhere in the line. The whole line will highlight, and you can then either copy or drag it. The headings “Step 1” and so on are not part of the commands.
To begin, launch the Terminal application; e.g., by entering the first few letters of its name in a Spotlight search.
Step 1
Copy or drag -- do not type -- the line below into the Terminal window, then press return:
kextstat -kl | awk ' !/apple/ { print $6 $7 } '
Post the lines of output (if any) that appear below what you just entered (the text, please, not a screenshot.)
Step 2
Repeat with this line:
sudo launchctl list | sed 1d | awk ' !/0x|apple|com\.vix|edu\.|org\./ { print $3 } '
This time, you'll be prompted for your login password, which won't be displayed when you type it. You may get a one-time warning not to screw up. You don't need to post the warning.
Step 3
launchctl list | sed 1d | awk ' !/0x|apple|edu\.|org\./ { print $3 } '
Step 4
ls -1A {,/}Library/{Ad,Compon,Ex,Fram,In,La,Mail/Bu,P*P,Priv,Qu,Scripti,Servi,Sta}* 2> /dev/null
Important: If you synchronize with a MobileMe account, your me.com email address will appear in the output of the above command. Change it to something like “[email protected]” before posting.
Remember, this is all drag-and-drop or copy-and-paste, whichever you prefer -- no typing, except your password.
You can then quit Terminal. -
Is there a way to force ical to send email invites?
I am not an expert but here is what I think is happening.
I create a new calendar event.
I then add attendees that I want to invite.
The attendees e-mail address is what they have set up as their iCloud ID.
The attendees do NOT use iCloud as their calendar (FYI I have NO way to know this ahead of time).
Because the attendees are registered in iCloud instead of receiving an e-mail notification of the event the notification is just added to their iCloud calendar (which they NEVER check).
End result is that the people I have invited to the event NEVER see the invite.
I would like to be able to force the calendar app to send e-mail notifications and NOT use iCloud. However, I am using iCloud personally to sync my calendar between my iPhone and MacBook.
I think that if all the people I invite would go into their iCloud calendar and select the option to receive event invitations as e-mail and not as in-app notifications all would be good. It is just NOT realistic for me to require all the people I invite to events to make this change.
Thanks
JamieCorrect me if I'm wrong here:
<code>jQuery.data()</code> saves the <code>{"foo": "bar"}</code> JSON object to variable <code>data</code>, and then the <code>s.tl()</code> call sends <code>data</code> to the server, right?
You could use jQuery's [http://api.jquery.com/event.preventDefault/ <code>event.preventDefault()</code>] method to stop the browser from automatically following the link on click. You could wait until the Ajax request was finished before following the link.

I hope that solved your problem!

Hi,
Suddenly while working with Firefox if I happen to drag the vertical scroll bar, a very abnormal behavior occurs. My screen dances up and down for a short time before either going black or getting restored but with no clicks working. The only way to resume is to force a restart of the system.
Any help would be deeply appreciated.
Thanks and Regards
DeepakThat didn't work. On trying to install a new driver I got the error the graphics driver could not find compatible graphics hardware. Is there anything else that can be done to at least prevent the hanging of the computer even if it means less features from Firefox being available?

Hoiw do I force my new mf8580cdw to print in black and white only (grey scale)?
First of all I am using windows 7 - 64bit and my printer is the MF8580CDW. I am using the UFRII print driver. I have tried changing one/all of the profiles in the print settings and printer properties to "black and white" printing but the software keeps chainging my selection back to "Auto[Color/B&W]". I have also tried enabling the toner saver option to no avail. When I changed the settings I clicked "Apply". Why is the driver not saving my settings? How do I force the printer to always print in black and white?
Hi,
From the application used to print open the print dialog.
Click Properties / Preferences / Settings to access the Printing Preferences dialog.
Click the Advanced button.
Under Printing Features set the Print in Grayscale value as Black Ink Only.
Say thanks by clicking the Kudos thumb up in the post.

I had to force shut down my MacBook Pro today as it was freezing up and not allowing me to really click on anything. All it let me do was close out of Photoshop. What happened was FireFox decided to crash and not reopen after attempting to install an updated version of Flash Player. When I rebooted after the force-shut down (holding down the power button to turn off my computer, which has always been effective in the past), I got a screen for OS X Utilities with the following prompts:
Restore From Time Machine Backup
Reinstall OS X
Get Help Online
Disk Utility
So, the first one is out of the question. In the 5 1/2 years I've proudly owned my computer, I have never created a Time Machine account/backup. I have preferred to use an external hard drive. Unfortunately, the other prompts would be A-okay, if it weren't for the fact that I've been lax in updating my backup and haven't backed up to my external in about 8 months.
Because.... Unfortunately, to Reinstall OS X, my computer wants to erase all my data, so I need the backup of my files. (I have a lot of photos on my drive). But it says I can't even reinstall, because the hard drive is locked.... What?
And it won't repair my hard drive. The prompts for why it should be repaired are: Invalid content in journal, Invalid B-tree node size, The volume could not be verified completely.
When I try to create a new image to backup to my external in order to wipe my system, it says "Unable to create "disk0s2.dmg" (invalid argument). Now, I am not totally computer illiterate. I can follow a set of instructions and do my own IT work basically 99% of the time. But this is ludicrous. I don't want to loose my images or lesson plans (I actually just got my school issued laptop and was going to transfer school files over to my school-issued computer as soon as I finished with my Internet needs (bills)).
What do I need to do to get my files backed up or fix this problem. I've rebooted my computer twice now to try to fix this...TarahCurrie Sep 10, 2014 3:48 PM

You are running 10.5.8
Did you try booting off your Install disk holding the c key down. From here you can get to the drop down menu just a few clicks in (you are not going to install) and run the Disk Utility>Repair Disk. See if it will let you do this.
