Force re-H&J

The script I've been using in CS3 (sorry, I can't remember if it came
from Peter Kahrel or jongware) to place multiple Word files into one big
story doesn't seem to work in CS4. So I've been using this script in CS3
and then opening the file in CS4.
Only problem is that CS4 respects the CS3 text wrap until you change
something. I would think I would probably change something, somewhere in
every paragraph in this book, but I already had it proved to me in the
last book that this isn't always true.
Is there a way to force ID CS4 to treat text from CS3 as new text, i.e.,
force it to re hyphenate and justify?

I've never spent the time to try to confirm this, but I assume the
difference is that the regular "Recompose All" recomposes during idle
time while "Recompose Immediately" would not allow an idle event to fire
until the recomposition is completed. Under normal circumstances, one
would never notice the difference...

    Hey sunnyday7!
Here is an article that can help you address this issue:
OS X: How to quit an unresponsive application using Force Quit
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ht3411
    Additional Information
OS X automatically relaunches the Finder when it is quit. If the Finder is unresponsive, use Force Quit to relaunch it. Select Finder in the Force Quit Window or Dock, then click Relaunch.

  • Hi, I was trying to copy and paste a lot of  info for one day on my calendar to another day and an error message popped up saying that the system responded with an error. Msg won't go away I force quit ical

Need help for trying to unfreeze a message on my ical.  I was trying to copy and paste some appointment info from one day to another on my ical and a message popped up saying the system responded with an error.  All of my info was below the message.  I can't get that message to go away or work on the ical now at all.  I try to force quit ical and have shut down the computer and it still comes up.  Any suggestions?

    K,
Try removing the com.apple.iCal.plist file from your Macintosh HD/Users/yourusername/Library/Preferences Folder. To find that Library folder, if you are using Lion, use Finder>Go Menu>Depress the "Option" key>Library. Drag the .plist file to your desktop, and log out/in or restart.
Next, make sure that you are not connected to the internet. Then to to your Macintosh HD/Users/yourusername/Library/Calendars Folder and remove any files with "Cache" as a part of the file name. Use the same method as listed above to get to the correct Library Folder. Log out/in, or restart and check iCal for functionality.

  • How can I force an app install in App Store, or otherwise get App Store in a consistent state?

I've recently reinstalled OS X Mountain Lion on a laptop (completely and thoroughly erased the partitions of the previous installation), and on this freshly created system, after I sign in to the App Store (to download previous purchases), the system behaves as if packages are already installed - which they are not!
Under the Purchases tab, packages (such as Xcode or other previous purchases) are showing with a greyed out "INSTALLED" button on the right.  Other packages (which have not been installed) are showing with a (pressable) button of "UPDATE".  (For example, iPhoto has a newer version in Mavericks; it seems always possible to click on UPDATE and be prompted to install the latest version for Mountain Lion -- even though that process can be infinitely repeated).  But iPhoto (along with any other packages) has not been installed to the host yet.  /Applications/iPhoto.app and any others are not showing at all on the system, but App Store still believes that they're installed already (preventing a real install, or pretending that an upgrade is an upgrade and not an install).  There are some packages which DO say "INSTALL".  Those are the ones that I have never installed before on the laptop.  So it appears to be possible to still install some packages - but that's the set that I do not want to install.  So for example, now I can't seem to install Xcode or iPhoto or any other previously purchased applications.  It seems pretty clear that there are some bugs here.  But I am concerned about the source of the association - how is OS X determining that THOSE packages are "installed already", but others are not?  Is the upstream App Store server keeping track of machine ID to make this determination?  I heard at one point that App Store uses Spotlight internally - is it somehow querying that?  Finally I wanted to confirm that this is really a complete reinstall.  I set /dev/zero to the first few sectors of the raw hard drive in order to ensure that I could make a few partiiton table, and when I then reinstalled the system, I chose a different partition arrangement.  I have no other drives connected.  So it's truly a reinstall of the OS from scratch, and at the moment I can't see a clear way to install apps!  I also had killed the App Store agent running in the background, moved away App Store related files in ~/Library/Caches/ and started again.  Yet I get the exact same response.  This is concerning from a privacy perspective too.  Suppose the App Store server is encoding the list of installed packages and associating it with the host and then perhaps I sell the laptop.  Now the list of apps may be available to a new user of the laptop.  But it may only show if the same Apple ID is used.
In any case, I'd like to know how I can best move past this issue, workaround it, and install packages.  Can I force an app to install, even if it's believed to be installed already?  Can I attempt to do an "uninstall"?  Any suggestions about this would be greatly appreciated.

i also have a very similar problem my mac crashed due to a dodgy hard drive which has now been upgraded and snow leopard reinstalled and i cannot re install my purchased apps which is a pain in the back side any help please

  • Hi, I am having trouble MacBook Air crashing since Yosemite upgrade. I ran an Etresoft check but I don't know what it means... my system runs slowly and crashes. I have to force shutdown. Sometimes screen is black for a split second b/w webmail pages

    Hello,
I am having trouble with my MacBook Air 13 inch June 2012 MacBook Air5, 2 4GB RAM  details below in Etresoft report. I recently upgraded to Yosemite and am having system trouble. My computer crashes and I have to force quit to restart. When using webmail there is a black screen for a split second between pages. This did not happen before. I am worried that it is not running properly and perhaps I need to revert to the previous operating system. I only have a MacBook Air and no need to share images between a tablet or phone so I did not need the new photo sharing software of Yosemite. I wonder if I don't have enough RAM to run it? I did not run time machine before I made the upgrade as I did not realise the significance of an upgrade as not very Mac literate. Any advice on whether my system is in danger... most appreciated! I am writing a book and making a back up but this machine is my lifeline and my work is conducted through it. It ran perfectly before... the Yosemite upgrade has perhaps highlighted some problems and it has unnerved me!
Thanks ever so much for your advice!
    Lillibet

When you have kernel panics, the pertinent information is in the panic report.
These instructions must be carried out as an administrator. If you have only one user account, you are the administrator.
Launch the Console application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad and start typing the name.
    In the Console window, select
DIAGNOSTIC AND USAGE INFORMATION ▹ System Diagnostic Reports
(not Diagnostic and Usage Messages) from the log list on the left. If you don't see that list, select
              View ▹ Show Log List
    from the menu bar.
There is a disclosure triangle to the left of the list item. If the triangle is pointing to the right, click it so that it points down. You'll see a list of reports. A panic report has a name that begins with "Kernel" and ends in ".panic". Select the most recent one. The contents of the report will appear on the right. Use copy and paste to post the entire contents—the text, not a screenshot.
If you don't see any reports listed, but you know there was a panic, you may have chosen Diagnostic and Usage Messages from the log list. Choose DIAGNOSTIC AND USAGE INFORMATION instead.
In the interest of privacy, I suggest that, before posting, you edit out the “Anonymous UUID,” a long string of letters, numbers, and dashes in the header of the report, if it’s present (it may not be.)
Please don’t post other kinds of diagnostic report.
I know the report is long, maybe several hundred lines. Please post all of it anyway.

This is the report I got after force quitting it.  Note that I have received a different one on a prior force quit. Not sure if that is common.  Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Please read this whole message before doing anything.
This procedure is a diagnostic test. It won’t solve your problem. Don’t be disappointed when you find nothing has changed after you complete it.
Third-party system modifications are a common cause of usability problems. By a “system modification,” I mean software that affects the operation of other software -- potentially for the worse. The following procedure will help identify which such modifications you've installed. Don’t be alarmed by the complexity of these instructions -- they’re easy to carry out and won’t change anything on your Mac.
These steps are to be taken while booted in “normal” mode, not in safe mode. If you’re now running in safe mode, reboot as usual before continuing.
Below are four lines of text in monospaced type, which are actually shell commands -- little programs. They’re harmless, but they must be used exactly as given in order to work.
First and most important, don’t run these commands until you have verified that they’re legitimate. Never execute shell commands from an untrusted source without knowing what they do, or at least that they don’t do anything harmful. I’ve posted these same commands, with minor variations, many times on this site. You should be able to find other discussions in which they were used without ill effects. Do that before proceeding.
Some of the commands will probably line-wrap in your browser, but each one is really just a single long line, all of which must be selected. You can accomplish this easily by triple-clicking anywhere in the line. The whole line will highlight, and you can then either copy or drag it. The headings “Step 1” and so on are not part of the commands.
To begin, launch the Terminal application; e.g., by entering the first few letters of its name in a Spotlight search.
    Step 1
Copy or drag -- do not type -- the line below into the Terminal window, then press return:
    kextstat -kl | awk ' !/apple/ { print $6 $7 } '
Post the lines of output (if any) that appear below what you just entered (the text, please, not a screenshot.)
    Step 2
    Repeat with this line:
    sudo launchctl list | sed 1d | awk ' !/0x|apple|com\.vix|edu\.|org\./ { print $3 } '
This time, you'll be prompted for your login password, which won't be displayed when you type it. You may get a one-time warning not to screw up. You don't need to post the warning.
    Step 3
    launchctl list | sed 1d | awk ' !/0x|apple|edu\.|org\./ { print $3 } '
    Step 4
    ls -1A {,/}Library/{Ad,Compon,Ex,Fram,In,La,Mail/Bu,P*P,Priv,Qu,Scripti,Servi,Sta}* 2> /dev/null
Important: If you synchronize with a MobileMe account, your me.com email address will appear in the output of the above command. Change it to something like “[email protected]” before posting.
Remember, this is all drag-and-drop or copy-and-paste, whichever you prefer -- no typing, except your password.
    You can then quit Terminal.

  • Is there a way to force ical to send email invites?

I am not an expert but here is what I think is happening.
I create a new calendar event.
I then add attendees that I want to invite.
The attendees e-mail address is what they have set up as their iCloud ID.
The attendees do NOT use iCloud as their calendar (FYI I have NO way to know this ahead of time).
Because the attendees are registered in iCloud instead of receiving an e-mail notification of the event the notification is just added to their iCloud calendar (which they NEVER check).
End result is that the people I have invited to the event NEVER see the invite.
I would like to be able to force the calendar app to send e-mail notifications and NOT use iCloud. However, I am using iCloud personally to sync my calendar between my iPhone and MacBook.
I think that if all the people I invite would go into their iCloud calendar and select the option to receive event invitations as e-mail and not as in-app notifications all would be good. It is just NOT realistic for me to require all the people I invite to events to make this change.
    Thanks
    Jamie

Correct me if I'm wrong here:
<code>jQuery.data()</code> saves the <code>{"foo": "bar"}</code> JSON object to variable <code>data</code>, and then the <code>s.tl()</code> call sends <code>data</code> to the server, right?
You could use jQuery's [http://api.jquery.com/event.preventDefault/ <code>event.preventDefault()</code>] method to stop the browser from automatically following the link on click. You could wait until the Ajax request was finished before following the link.

  • At times when dragging the vertical scroll bar my computer screen oscillates up and down for some time before going blank or not responding to any clicks requiring a forced system restart. What is wrong?

    Hi,
Suddenly while working with Firefox if I happen to drag the vertical scroll bar, a very abnormal behavior occurs. My screen dances up and down for a short time before either going black or getting restored but with no clicks working. The only way to resume is to force a restart of the system.
Any help would be deeply appreciated.
    Thanks and Regards

That didn't work. On trying to install a new driver I got the error the graphics driver could not find compatible graphics hardware. Is there anything else that can be done to at least prevent the hanging of the computer even if it means less features from Firefox being available?

  • Hoiw do I force my new mf8580cdw to print in black and white only (grey scale)?

First of all I am using windows 7 - 64bit and my printer is the MF8580CDW. I am using the UFRII print driver. I have tried changing one/all of the profiles in the print settings and printer properties to "black and white" printing but the software keeps chainging my selection back to "Auto[Color/B&W]". I have also tried enabling the toner saver option to no avail. When I changed the settings I clicked "Apply". Why is the driver not saving my settings? How do I force the printer to always print in black and white?

    Hi,
From the application used to print open the print dialog.
Click Properties / Preferences / Settings to access the Printing Preferences dialog.
    Click the Advanced button.
Under Printing Features set the Print in Grayscale value as Black Ink Only.
Say thanks by clicking the Kudos thumb up in the post.

  • I force-restarted my MacBook Pro and now it wants me to repair or erase my disk and Reinstall Mavericks.  But I can't back up my files to do this.  HELP!!!!!

I had to force shut down my MacBook Pro today as it was freezing up and not allowing me to really click on anything.  All it let me do was close out of Photoshop.  What happened was FireFox decided to crash and not reopen after attempting to install an updated version of Flash Player.  When I rebooted after the force-shut down (holding down the power button to turn off my computer, which has always been effective in the past), I got a screen for OS X Utilities with the following prompts:
    Restore From Time Machine Backup
    Reinstall OS X
    Get Help Online
    Disk Utility
So, the first one is out of the question.  In the 5 1/2 years I've proudly owned my computer, I have never created a Time Machine account/backup.  I have preferred to use an external hard drive.  Unfortunately, the other prompts would be A-okay, if it weren't for the fact that I've been lax in updating my backup and haven't backed up to my external in about 8 months.
Because.... Unfortunately, to Reinstall OS X, my computer wants to erase all my data, so I need the backup of my files.  (I have a lot of photos on my drive).  But it says I can't even reinstall, because the hard drive is locked.... What?
And it won't repair my hard drive.  The prompts for why it should be repaired are: Invalid content in journal, Invalid B-tree node size, The volume could not be verified completely.
When I try to create a new image to backup to my external in order to wipe my system, it says "Unable to create "disk0s2.dmg" (invalid argument).  Now, I am not totally computer illiterate.  I can follow a set of instructions and do my own IT work basically 99% of the time.  But this is ludicrous.  I don't want to loose my images or lesson plans (I actually just got my school issued laptop and was going to transfer school files over to my school-issued computer as soon as I finished with my Internet needs (bills)).
What do I need to do to get my files backed up or fix this problem.  I've rebooted my computer twice now to try to fix this...

    Restore From Time Machine Backup
    Reinstall OS X
    Get Help Online
    Disk Utility
MacBook Pro, Mac OS X (10.5.8)
    You are running 10.5.8
Did you try booting off your Install disk holding the c key down.  From here you can get to the drop down menu just a few clicks in (you are not going to install) and run  the Disk Utility>Repair Disk.  See if it will let you do this.

  • Hard Drives Bare After Forced Restart!!! HELP!!!

Running new Mac Pro w/ plenty of RAM, and the latest OS.
Was installing Xcode with a few programs running in the background.
Time Machine appeared to have kicked in during the install and Xcode just seemed to hang. Then, suddenly all text disappeared from all Firefox tabs, and all other programs stopped responding. I let it sit for over an hour with no response. I couldn't force quit things, though I was able to quit Mail and Calculator without issue. I could not, however, interact with their windows directly.
After another 30 minutes of total system lock-out (even the dock was stuck) I pressed and held the power button on the front of the unit to turn it off.
When I turned the machine back on it could not find the start-up disk. So, I started up with the Install DVD and ran Disk Utility...
The two internal drives on my machine both registered and were verified in good working order, but they were now BLANK DU registered them as having a tiny bit of information on them when only 2 hours before there was literally hundreds of gigs on board... years worth of valuable data.
I'm not looking for a scolding regarding my not regularly backing up, nor to be admonished for shutting the machine off the way I did.
Has anyone ever seen something like this?
I'll be calling Applecare first thing tomorrow, but am wondering if this might be something Disk Warrior can lend a hand with. Thoughts and recommendations welcome.
    Thanks all for your consideration.
    Best,
    Jason
ps > wary of recovering from Time Machine back-up due to the fact that I'm not sure one of the drives was backing up, and I dare not overwrite the drive while the chance to recover wholesale through the use of a tool like Disk Warrior exists.

    UPDATE
I spoke with Applecare this morning and they instructed me to restore from my TimeMachine back-up and that my secondary internal drive (ie. the MORE important drive) would have definitely been backed up as well.
I restored and... voila!... my basic desktop operating system is back.
That's the good news, however, the bad is that the secondary internal drive DID NOT restore.
As I mentioned before, the drive is being read as healthy and EMPTY, which is mind boggling. I assumed that this was a directory issue, but neither DiskWarrior nor Data Rescue can determine that there is anything wrong with the directory. Data Rescue's "Quick Search" revealed no additional files save for the basics you would find on a barren drive. I am currently running their "Deep Search" which should take several hours, but my question for you guys is this: should Data Rescue come up empty is there anything else I can do? Or is the drive well and truly borked... empty... caput?!? Do I let DiskWarrior attempt to rebuild the directory or am I just throwing fuel on the fire and potentially overwriting data that might be useful in recovery.
Do I then take it to a forensic pro to go over the drive with a fine tooth comb?
Recovering this data is approaching a "no price too high" situation.

  • How can I make the browser use the proper filename during a forced save, using CFCONTENT/CFHEADER

We have a client using CF8 Server for a site and I am using the CFHEADER/CFCONTENT method to force a file to save to the end-user's computer.
The dialogue comes up as expected, but regardless of what is found in the CFHEADER for a filename, it tries to save the file as the CFM page name.
i.e. The CFM page is signature.cfm. I am trying to make it save a TXT file to the user's computer, which it seems to be trying to do, but the instead of using "sig.txt" as the filename as outlined in the CFHEADER, it is defaulting to "signature.cfm"
While I know that I could change the name and extension and the content in the file would be correct, the mass majority of end-users will not know that they can do that, and the client does not want it to become more complicated than necessary.
Is there a way to make the file change to the proper name in the SAVE AS dialogue?
    Thanks in advance.
Code so far is pretty straight forward ...
    <CFHEADER name="Content-Disposition" value="attachment; filename=sig.txt">
    <CFCONTENT type="application/unknown" file="#xf#">

I'm guessing the type="application/unknown" is interfering. Try type="text/plain".

  • Sender Mail Adapter - forcing content as an attachement

    Hi all,
We are using the Sender Mail Adapter to pull emails from the inboxes of some users of an exchange server.  We use the Mail Package option.
We have noticed that the content of the emails are by-default added as attachments when there are no real attachments to the emails.  However the content is not added as an attachment when one or more attachments are present in these emails.
Is there a way of forcing the Sender Mail Adapter to always add the content as an attachment and keeping the other attachments as well?  and of course maintain the Mail Package message type as the main payload...?
    Many thanks,
    Aldo

    Hi Stefan,
Thanks for your reply.  I am glad to hear that I am wrong again )
In your opinion is it possible to force the Outlook Exchange server to add the content attachment every time?  I mean by doing some configuration on it...?
The reason why we would like to do this is because when - in the content tag of a Mail Package message - we have MIME message parts that are of content-type text/html we are having problems in decoding the html back to a readable format.
To do this we use the apache QuotedPrintableCodec Java class.
This works fine when the content type of the message is just text/plain but we get an exception when we try with text/html.
    The exception we get is:
org.apache.commons.codec.DecoderException: Invalid URL encoding: not a valid digit (radix 16): 13
I don't know if this is because of the two character sets we have in the payload (utf-8 and iso-8859-1) or if it is for other reasons...
If you could help me figure out how to forward any HTML email to another system in a readable format it would be great.
    Thanks for your support,
    Aldo

  • Third Party Process - forcing PO creation after error

    Hello eveybody,
I am implementing the Third Party Process and everything is going well but I have a question. If I enter say 10 items on a sales order and one material does not have an info record/source list then that item does not get entered on the purchase req. This then blocks the automatic creation of the PO.
If I fix the problem material and re-enter it on the SO, then that item gets ordered but the other 9 are not processed. Is there nany way to force the PO creation for the other 9 items ??
    Many thanks in advance.
    Brian

    Hi Stanton,
When you precess the third party order the purchase requesition will be created to the respective schedule lines so you can get the two different purcahse requesition for the 10 items then you can combine those two purchase requesitions in the purchase order what is the issue.
or you can run another PO for that problem item.
I hope it will not give any problem while creating PO
    Thanks,
    Murali.
